I’m telling you, when this game gets its Dark Arisen/Iceborne style expansion, it’s gonna be incredible. The game’s biggest problem (aside from performance and pointless mtx) is a lack of enemy variety.
Enemy variety with the simplistic combat and enemy encounter every 1-2 minutes, makes the map feel bigger then it really is and also the set spawn points. Is just too boring to explore and combat gets boring real quick.

I agree it's definitely one of the best experiences I've had with a video game and I'm coming off the high of FF7 Rebirth so I wasn't expecting to enjoy Dragon's Dogma 2 at all but damn this game got me hooked. I never played part 1 and honestly wasn't sure what to expect, but it is exactly my kind of game. Capcom just puts out bangers left and right, by far the best dev in the business. It is not missing, it is not a board in town like in most other games. There are Monster Culling and NPC escort quests generated on the go when you explore the world. They appear as a yellow diamond on the map and especially the escort quests can become very involved. I think this is a better solution, as you really do not need to visit town to get randomly generated quests and it is a lot more organic.
what I think is good is dragons dogma 2 represent an idea Itsuno wanted to bring back due to the cult following the first game had and now theyve shown capcom it may bare fruit to invest in the series a sequel will kick it up to 11.
Not gonna lie, I had so much fun with the combat and the last part of the game that I wished it lasted longer. This game was a weird one in terms of pacing too, the first 40 hours were a blast like I haven't hand since Elden Ring, the only thing that made me upset after that was the enemy variety. At some point, you just go, "Another goblin/saurian/harpy." If that wasn't the case, I doubt I would've finished the game today because I just honestly wanted to keep playing but then I also had fatigue of having fought 3K+ goblins all game long. Overall, a very fun experience and I want more.
so two things, because asmongold seems to rushed through this at the end, if you have completed all side quests and raised your affinity with your pawn then the dark dragon pawn will turn back to himself and says something like "you gave me a special gift, my own will. but i would gladly thorugh it all away for you-" in the end credits scene you additionally see all the side characters
3:14:06 "Do you think this will be game of the year contender?" Dragon's dogma is 10/10 gameplay but everything else about it is 4/10. The optimization, denuvo, the functional MTX on top of $70, the first half story is bad, the anticlimactic ending, the copy paste dozen or so enemies you keep running into again and again and again. How awesome actual combat handles is an industry benchmark, but it won't be a contender for GOTY.
@@PenguinsAreColdish No. I can already see Helldivers 2, FF7 Rebirth, Prince of Persia the lost crown, or even Tekken 8 taking a win over DD2 due to DD2s piss poor launch quality and universally panned monetization practices. And there's plenty more coming that would add padding between them. The game awards only had 6 nominees. So only 2 more games need to come out that need better reviews than DD2 - which would be easy by avoiding controversy - in order to push DD2 out of the running: Rise of the ronin (already out, reviews on par with DD2 without the stigma) Hellblade 2 Black myth Wukong that indiana jones game star wars outlaws (again, doesn't have to be good, just has to be better reviewed than DD2 to take its spot) Homeworld 3 Luigi's Mansion 2 Stalker 2 Heck, Princess Peach Showtime. A children's game, but much higher ranking than DD2. Not to mention indie games that have been in early access for years, like Baldur's Gate 3, getting actual release dates this year. Think Grounded. Or maybe some zeitgeist game like Lethal Company coming out of nowhere. It just takes 2 not-even-good-just-better-reviewed-than-DD2 games to come out in the next 8 months, and it's no longer a contender. There's too many possible picks for DD2 to survive that long. Any by the way, this isn't about which game *you* rate the best, it's about which games the industry will rank the best... and after seeing the backlash against DD2, game awards ceremonies won't touch it with a 10 foot pole. it will definitely get at least 1 dlc. The only issue of getting any more than that is all the negative reviews when the game first released. They may think there isnt a big enough audience for it

you get to basically choose the difficulty here, i have been going through the game with just my main pawn and i have been making basically very limited upgrades so i can enjoy my time here, it took me around 10 minutes last night to kill a chimera that i know asmon would have killed in 2 minutes
If I remember correctly, it wasn't until endgame in the first one when things started to become challenging. And then doubly so when they released the dlc. God I hope this game gets dlc as good as bitter black isle
People playing DS come here and said game isn't challenging enough but conveniently forget the fact that they fight along 3 NPCs. Just try to solo the game like in DS as warrior and see how that go. He got all the way to end game spamming the same hyper armor attack while ignore half the game mechanics because he has other party members to support him. But tbf, the game isn't try to be dodge or die difficulty but more about knowing the enemies and knowing yourself. The pawns to support your playstyle and the environment interactions for strategic decisions. That's the fun of it, no need for another hit and roll clone.
Most games these days have flawed difficulties. The peak difficulty philosophy was arcade games like crazy reaction times and also mind gaming with the ai itself. Miss them days 😢 but I appreciate games catering to the modern gamers who want to to be carried to legend status. Sometimes the carry is all someone knows, and that’s just life ig
No. DD Online ruined the purpose of this series. Thats why they scrapped it. It makes the core of this game: the unique pawn system, obsolete. Tho some can also say Dragons Dogma is a multiplayer game in its unique way, we play and link up with other players via their loyal pawn. Lets keep it that way.
It breaks my heart that there's people who never got to see the high affinity pawn version of the final cutscene. It's such a big difference in the tenor and emotion of that scene.
Glad to see once he got the True Ending route, Asmon gave Dragon's Dogma 2 a 9,5 out of 10. I believe it's fair. I've played 150 hours already, into NG+ evolving all Vocations to max (Main Pawn is already maxxed on all Vocations). It's really fun: the combat, the exploration and the beautiful graphics carry the game.
If capcom does like some DLCs for this game... it can become a legendary game for sure. it has the body... it only needs more mobs, more classes, more areas, and all of that can be add to the game... if they do that over time to the cost of 70 dollars in a spam of 2 years... well
When a dlc comes out for this game that either adds a hard mode or scaling for new game plus and maybe a new location or two with new enemies and bosses this game will be goated for years to come. This game is already a 8 or 9 out of 10 for me. All it needs is more replayability or some modders to do their thing

During end credits, each landscape it transitions to is a storyline for a specific character/romance you missed out. Kind of lets you know if you missed any major stories.
And imagine if the was shorter story and character movement was worse too. There wasn't even a final boss battle for fuck sake! I recently replayed the first and honestly dd2 comes no where close to the first to me.
@@bjornolfactory9363 there is a final boss, you guys just chickened out. The dragon says fight me or walk away, if you walk away you’re given a chance to fight him again. Enemy variety especially in first 20 hours is so poor like holy shit for half the game all you fight is goblins bandits harpies lizards and for mini bosses ogres and gryphs. So more enemies and fixed performance and it's easy 9/10 game, but for now ESPECIALLY with the performance and lack of enemy variety it's like 7/10
Well, you basically can't judge a game without personal emotion when the credits are rolling. 9.5 is a massive overrating, I would say after my playthrough 7.5-8 befits the game's true quality
So can someone explain the full concept here? Watcher would be the seneschal? Or do we fully disregard DD1? By killing yourself and triggering the unmoored world you remove the restrictions set on the Dragon and it's cycle? By killing it in its unrestricted form with a blade of crystalized will, we destroyed the cycle completely? Did our will overpower and shatter the current god's? Regardless of the actual meaning.....post game was insane.....but slightly disappointed in the final fight difficulty. I was far too under leveled for the post game.....didn't realize the saves were done in a specific way because I just didn't die..... The DLC just needs a Dark Arisen style expansion. More weapons, elite boss types etc.
Seems like we actually finished the cycle this time but it also seemed to ignore dd1's setting by changing the entire cycle of that being where the seneschal were previous arisens who have bested the seneschal

The ending credit scene is different from what I saw. Mine was the crazy old man from Harve village setting sails to the ocean. Previously, he told me about how the world was wrong because no one could explore beyond the world.
I expected a FF16 equivalent of story from all that drama and character introductions at the beginning but then i realized it is just Monster Hunter equivalent of story in a dark souls style world. All the buildup story didn't get anywhere and didn't matter but the last act was really hype. Do we even know wtf happened to the queen regent and her son in the main story?
If you do side quests then yes you do know what happens, if you evacuate everyone before the calamity strikes then you will get the best ending which you can tell in the true ending credits, if it’s actual people interacting with each other and not just scenery then you know you did it right.
Yes!!! despite all the BS, this game is magnificent.. having a blast with it. Only level 28 as of yet, but I'm taking my time. Just rode a gryphon today and it flew me to a nest with a fucking portable port crystal lol. I'm rocking the duospear currently, but you make me want to go back to warrior class with that beastly ass axe AG!!!
DD1 had a lot more skills to actually have in combat (8 instead of 4, R1 and L1 had 4 skills each) and a few Vocations got left out (Paladin and Assassin) I hope thats gonna be DLC Content
Main quest is average but he missed a good chunk of side quests and they are pretty good, that's why his end credits didn't show anyone just slides from the scenery. The main quest is extremely diminished if you just rush it without side content.
I'm pretty confused about how a game with so little variety in the moment to moment gameplay can be nearly flawless in someone's eyes. If the classes are so barebones, they should at least let you swap to control pawns to mix it up mid combat. Add on the lack of enemy variety, mtx (that really isn't a big deal but are still there in all capcoms games), dumb ai, bad performance. I'm coming off of games like FF7 Rebirth and Elden Ring that frankly have way more spice in the combat and allow you to use more abilities.
Asmongold barely used the move variety in his class and never switched to one of the 9 classes either. There actually is a good variety in the combat. Enemy variety could definitely be better
If you think this game has little to no mechanics, I suggest you watch Nihil0.0 vids about the first Dragon's Dogma game. And yes, I know that DD2 is different from DD1, but most of the core mechanics are still there.
How do you guys feel about those kinds of endings? I mean, like "no good ending", or without more "closure". You impacted the world, but do you feel like you did? Asking from a game dev perspective, any insight is appreciated o/
I got to pick between fighting the dragon and essentially letting it off the hook. Ended up fighting it. I thought the fight would be just some sort of lead-up into the real endgame but it turns out I finished the game. I waltzed back into the throne room and sat down and that was that. Broad strokes but that is essentially what happened for me, felt very anti-climactic.
I love it because it forces the player to actually think about the ending. If you're playing as Superman and you save the world, sure it gives the most "impact" to the world, but at what cost? Well, the cost is that the ending is incredibly predictable and easily understood without any thought whatsoever. It doesn't cause them to question anything, it doesn't ask them to observe and interpret anything. For art to be more than just the equivalent of a popcorn flick, it has to ask something of the audience. In order to do that, you have to respect the intelligence of the player enough to let go of the handholding and "yellow paint" and obvious explanations, and leave some things up for interpretation or discovery. Sometimes we don't save the world, but we alter it, and the characters within it. So you as the artist need to explore what it means to do that, and take the player along the journey of that exploration.
The ending was pretty bad. It doesnt matter if the ending is 'bad' or 'good' but it needs to be impactful and felt in some fashion. DD2's true ending feels like it just randomly cuts off in the middle of a cutscene. Then skips to everything being all right. Plus final boss being a cinematic sucks too.
What's the controversy for FFVII Rebirth? I understand the performance issues and whatnot for PC gamers, but that just seems to be the trend with PC games nowadays. Console is easier because all the software and hardware is the same, so I haven't played a game with bugs in years.
I can't play openworld games I get so lost and overwhelmed but loved following his playthrough alot. Asmon saying lanturns are for those afraid of the dark is silly. He can see in the dark living in his bat cave, during the MHW Velkahan fight in the ice, he was struggling and annoyed at the high white contrasts. It's the same for the black. Watching it ona TFT screen during the day made those night parts difficult. Other than that. Great game and a fun journey. I missed parts of the story though like what happend to the fake Arisen etc. I think I will try the first game. Openworld.,..

Enjoyed DD and greatly enjoying DD2, but part of me wishes the game at least had limited coop. Respect the decision to stick to their vision I guess, but I can’t help feeling they missed a huge opportunity.
So many people disike this from the title, but having played through the game myself to its true ending and exploring most of the side content, I agree. It's a flawed game with the things I've always wanted in it.
Just wondering how you avoid attacks in this game? Are there s? Is there partying or deflecting? Doesn’t seem like a hard game from what I’ve seen. Looks cool, it just seems like mhw but worse
I think only thief gets a legit dodge. But it appears the other melee classes get at least a parry or riposte skill. I’m playing fighter and you get a bunch of riposte and parries. And of course I can block.
its by design this game is designed with traditional rpg classe system, warrior just tanks attacks, fighter uses shield or parries, rogue can dodge and archer can slide and mage can levitate
Thief gets a dodge, Trickster deletes their own aggro bar, archer gets a disengage kick, fighter has block, parry, and riposte, and warrior gets two forms of parry. One ability to parry, and the ability to avoid damage by timing your charge attacks to release right before getting hit. Mage, and Mystic Spearhand can cast shields upon themselves and allies that absorb damage entirely. Sorcerer... I don't know what sorcerer has for damage avoidance, but I imagine their whole thing is just staying far far away so they don't get hit. Magick Archer also wants to just stay far away, but they can cast shields on allies as well, but I believe not themselves. The damage avoidance mechanics are there, but you don't actually need a single one. Sprint away from attacks, or rely on your party comp.
Warrior is soooooo much better in this game. i had a hard time tearing myself away from it to level up other stuff to augment grind (still doing that btw) but it’s so much better now. no more light jump attacks for everything 😂 edit: so many “MainPawns” out there. did people just forget to name them? it works the same as creating your player character, so just… how? 😂
Odd, when I finished the credits on my true ending it had the old guy Harve Village go off in a boat. I also gave the game a 9.5 its one of the best games of 2024.
It is funny how the story leading up to the ending is absolutely pointless; all those missions for Brant and Disa's plot, just go to the trash lol. Also it is kinda funny how Asmon forgot to do the evacuation missions, at the ending scenes there is no one at the cities lol. I just wish the game was harder/had harder mode, I finished the game and was just cutting throught everthing
In your opinion. The game lacks so much to the first one. Its just bigger. Same enemies. Very easy. Cut functions like only 4 skills. People focus so much on mtx or performance but put of that it's just a mediocre game. And to cut out basic game features, new game, save gd, seriously its just an excuse to sell their dlc. The tactics here is to limit the availability of certain items in order to sell them as dlc.
Have you even played the game? Most of the systems are the same as the first game, and as of right now at least, there are no objects available for purchase that you can’t easily obtain in the game. The tactics you’re referring to would only apply if you couldn’t get them without the purchase, or were significantly inconvenienced by not paying. The port crystal is the only thing that you might not find within the first hours of gameplay, but even that is just a one time purchase if you choose to buy one for use super early in the game. Assassin’s Creed sells gold and xp boosters, which is incentivized by making leveling without it much more of a grind in Odyssey and Valhalla, for example. That is applying the tactics you’re referring to, in my opinion.

@MyRabbitHole If the world doesn't make you want to explore it, and you don't find combat fun enough to experiment with the vocations, then fair enough. That sounds more like an issue of personal taste and preferences than anything wrong with the game. That's like me calling Super Mario World a boring game because I dislike sidescrollers. I couldn't stand to blitz through the story like that, personally. 22hrs seems an insanely short amount of time for a game of this sort. You can knock them for their MTX practices if you want but you can't knock the gameplay when it comes to their games.
Rebirth was good? Deciding on this, Reborth or Ronin?
@@gporr7004 Did you play part one? It's kind a nostalgia berry franchise. If you're not a fan, its a 7.5 solid; but wont blow your mind RPG. I LOVE safijiva. Both the size, design, and it’s unique hunt. For MH, that’s been going for so long, it was nice to give such a story-important monster a very unique, one-of-it’s-kind hunt.
I have a feeling that he was mistaking Safijiva raid boss for Xenojiva MHWs last monster at base game.
@@MrWhoDare I also like the Unique weapon system and armor.

I’m glad I don’t notice performance issues on my PS5 version. I love to just start up the game, play for an hour or 2 without a plan, just travel and see what comes up. Been really relaxing and fun
stop the cap, im playing on ps 5 myself and the NPC are spawning super late in the towns and framerate drops drastically there. Its still not a gamebreaker and the game is very fun. Holy shit the end story was nuts. I get the point in not having a big end boss but the way they made a interactive end piece and it was amazing to be here!
Enemy spells and skills should have a red tint to them. Seems like it's difficult to tell if you're standing in a pawns spell or an enemy's.

@Wednesdayrules45 this game isn't a sequal it feels like a lazy remake of the first game with updated graphics and watered down mechanics

what I think is good is dragons dogma 2 represent an idea Itsuno wanted to bring back due to the cult following the first game had and now theyve shown capcom it may bare fruit to invest in the series a sequel will kick it up to 11.
Overall, a very fun experience and I want more.
so two things, because asmongold seems to rushed through this
at the end, if you have completed all side quests and raised your affinity with your pawn then the dark dragon pawn will turn back to himself and says something like "you gave me a special gift, my own will. but i would gladly thorugh it all away for you-"
in the end credits scene you additionally see all the side characters
I dream of BBI but it updates the whole map with new enemies.
How does he still not know to cut Saurian tails?
3:14:06 "Do you think this will be game of the year contender?"
Dragon's dogma is 10/10 gameplay but everything else about it is 4/10.

So only 2 more games need to come out that need better reviews than DD2 - which would be easy by avoiding controversy - in order to push DD2 out of the running:
Rise of the ronin (already out, reviews on par with DD2 without the stigma)
Hellblade 2
Black myth Wukong
that indiana jones game
star wars outlaws (again, doesn't have to be good, just has to be better reviewed than DD2 to take its spot)
Homeworld 3
Luigi's Mansion 2
Stalker 2
Heck, Princess Peach Showtime.
Not. A. Contender.

The sum is most definitely greater than the parts
Asmongold barely used the move variety in his class and never switched to one of the 9 classes either. There actually is a good variety in the combat. Enemy variety could definitely be better

Broad strokes but that is essentially what happened for me, felt very anti-climactic.
they're probably gonna release DLC for another 80 dollars
@@Patraquashe That's because it's not the true ending.

Some classes don't have a way to dodge attacks at all. Its by design, you a have a party and you need to use positioning and proper timing.
You kick with archer when enemies get close
its by design this game is designed with traditional rpg classe system, warrior just tanks attacks, fighter uses shield or parries, rogue can dodge and archer can slide and mage can levitate
Warrior is soooooo much better in this game. i had a hard time tearing myself away from it to level up other stuff to augment grind (still doing that btw)
but it’s so much better now. no more light jump attacks for everything 😂
edit: so many “MainPawns” out there. did people just forget to name them? it works the same as creating your player character, so just… how?
50 Hours into the game and he still doesn't know he can hit the stone and lava lizards weakpoint with a slashing weapon to kill them fast.
does DD2 also have post game conditions after the "final boss" like the first one?
Yes. That’s what people are referring to as the “true ending.”
Loved the game just think not enough enemy variety and dont know maybe a bit to short
I've just made your pawn enlist in my game been watching a while man definitely had to subscribe after your message about gold 🎉😂
@@blackhat4206 yes I finished it at a 22h mark following the main quest. Yes I could run around a boring landscape for 10+ hours to fetch goblin horns. This gsne us blant and sucks.
There are so many unique interactions you never see if you don't take it slow and pay attention. Uncovering those secrets is half the fun for me.
22h and finished? 22h i barely exploring nearby Vermund. Its like devouring a juicy burger whole without chewing and tasting and then saying ehh its just bread meat and vegetables, i eat that everyday.
@@blackhat4206Going through corridor fighting same mob types to find a cave that is single corridor too. It’s not a matter of preference.
Mann I wish my pc can play this game 😢
Mainpawn was mvp
