I wish you luck. I am a US Sailing cruising instructor. So have taught hundreds of people to go cruising. Looks like you are on your way! Actually there are a good number of boats in the eastern Caribbean for sale. This is often a palace where people say “ ok, this was fun, time to move on”. Also people “age out” and are ready for a change. Some boats sit a long time. This is very bad for them. You will find a lot of work. Everything tired and ready to break if it’s not already. The Nicholson is a nice boat IF, IF it has been cared for. The good news is there are a lot of boats in and around Grenada, Trinidad area. Great cruising grounds. Lots of cruising community there. I spent a number of years in this area. Enjoy, and I will watch! PS. If you do decide that you want to go to Trinidad to look further, you can probably get a crew position of someone going there. Definitely bring a good hand held VHF with you. There is a cruisers net every morning. Channel 66 and 84 international. Also a facebook group. You can get LOTS of info on it.
@@nas6587 You will find cruising boats where ever good cruising destinations are. Florida, Caribbean, larger South Pacific destinations etc. people want to move up to bigger and better, or are ready for a change of lifestyle. I sold a nice older 46 foot cruising sailboat in Sea of Cortez, Mexico. And that person got a great buy as my circumstances changed and i couldn’t cruise for a while. I don’t believe in storing boats for extended periods (as in a year or more). If I can’t use it, I will sell it while its still in good cruising condition. Boats don’t like to just sit. There are a number of brokers in these types of destinations. And don’t be afraid to use a broker as the seller pays the broker. Places like: Sea of Cortez, The Virgin Islands, St Maartin, Martinique, Grenada, Trinidad etc. One of best part of these boats is that you are already at prime cruising grounds.
Grenada, W.I. What a place to get your first boat. Spent some wonderful times there in 2010 with all the expats down at Clarks Court before the redevelopment.. Say hi to Roger at Hog Island. Plenty of cheap boats there if you know where to look. Good luck. Fair Winds.
Very inspiring stuff... Thank you for the breakdown. Like many, I'm sure, I had not realized how easy it was to get started or how inexpensively a boat could be purchased for. Your production quality is top notch as well!
Nicholson 32, Hmm . good choice, Ive been looking for a good one in Australia for some time. Hard to find. Small by modern standards but immensely seaworthy and a pleasure to sail and admire.

Every boat in existence has a sell price. That's exactly what happened to my previous three boats. For every boat out there there’s a story that needs to be told. It may very well be a story you don't want to hear. You will get shot down many times when trying to buy a used boat. I need to feel a connection to make a purchase. Just purchased my fourth used boat. The latest hole in the water to pour money into.
Thanks for sharing this to the world! When we sold everything and went sailing, the toughest part was taking the first step! We never thought to share the story. I'm sure it will help many! Best of LUCK!

Nice one mine I bought real cheap and is 1969 very narrow 3/4 deep keel spade rudder project based on Kerry .Hopefully next year sail for med as I did ocean before this and med and old age getting me so med suits my old bones better but have to use engine more often there. Yes I agree your logic in today's world often cheaper to buy two boats and fly there to use the other boat . Pay attention corrosion if possible buy stainless steel exhaust manifold for inboard engine and consider a reasonable four stroke petrol back up solution as spare parts for inboards are a nightmare with the supply chain issues especially in obscure parts of the planet
Amazing!! Following your channel closely, as this is something I'm considering doing next year (same route almost, except thinking more of renting vs buying and for several weeks instead of months) Keep the content coming!
Good for you! For serious cussing you can also consider a steel boats. They are tent to be cheaper than fiberglass, much stronger but not so fancy. See you on the water :)

There's too much price snobbery in the yotty world so this is nice to see that a budget boat can work. Caribbean islands are so close together, the risks should be mitigated a bit. I did RYA Day Skipper & Competent Crew in Dec 2020 and desperate to buy a boat, but have been put off by covid and a fear of not being expert in boat maintenance. Next week I'm viewing a 40ft Gibsea in Philippines where I hope to settle down. I'd be interested in finding out how to transition from "newbie" to be ready to cross Indian Ocean (or a major sea).
