These Bosch machines are or were built like submarines and are a pleasure to use. I do virtually all the laundry and my wife does the folding and we have been married 40 years. My machines are over 15 years old and still working perfectly. If you are at all mechanically inclined and something needs replacing, it is relatively easy to diagnose it and to order a part online and replace it yourself without a service call, thanks to RUclipss like this. Bosch stopped making vented dryers because of lint fires. Since the washer spins at 1200, the clothes come out nearly dry and drying time is short and power use is minimized. If you try to dry clothes that have been washed in a toploader and not spun so fast, they won't dry. I find the dryer balls helpful to stop sheets from getting balled up. Put them in the middle of the sheets. My machines are on my route to the garage, and the smaller capacity is not a problem as I don't put it off til the laundry room is overflowing. When we had 12 people here on vacation for a week, the machines were going constantly without a problem. I am told that in Europe they tend to do smaller loads frequently, unlike Americans. In summer I can direct the warm air to the garage and in winter to the house. The washer adjusts the water level to the amount of clothes. The maintenance of the dryer is not a big deal and takes a few minutes once a month, but you have to do it. Leave yourself a reminder. I thoroughly enjoy these machines. Mine are side by side because there is a cabinet above and I built a sturdy platform to elevate them 20 inches off the ground so there is not as much bending over. Obviously Germans have a lot to be shameful about (holocaust, diesel emissions (including Bosch), stealing the prototype of the Beetle from a Hungarian Jew named Josef Ganz who was arrested by the Gestapo on trumped up charges, then Hitler gave money to Nazi Ferdinand Porsche to bring them to market , but these are great machines.
Glad to hear they are still working! Married 40 years! Wow! Is that the secret to a long marriage? Gotta do some laundry for some lovin? LOL! Congratulations on that impressive milestone! Thanks for your comment! Cheers! Rob
So is Josef Ganz a relative? I have adopted my mom’s washer and dryer Ascenta-my Asko after 6 years seems to have blown up the mother board and I cannot get ahold of ASko. So I was able to use my moms washer and dryer!
I agree. Just replacing my Bosch Axxis W/D I purchased in 2000 with the 500 set. Hope I get even half the life out of this set. I had my dryer limiter switch trip once. Easy fix. I thought that was what happened again when the dryer wouldn't heat, but, alas, it was something else. I was sure investing money in 23 year old appliances was a bad idea and got another Bosch set.
I bought my Bosch washer and dryer 16 years ago, I have never heard that they only last 4 years. They are built for life. Mine are still running perfectly.
You are one of the lucky few. Bosch is a better name nowadays but front load washers have proven themselves very unreliable. Generally the bearing assembly goes within 5 years if you have a family. If you are retired and do fewer wash loads they last much longer. I’ve been married 28 years, have 4 kids and this is my 5th washer dryer combo. Our first washer dryer were the old fashioned type and most likely would still be running today. (Sold appliances with the house)
I bought an LG front load stackable pair 14 years ago, still going strong. I've been researching for their replacement though in case they do decide to walk off the job some day. I think I'm down to another LG set, GE, Bosch, or Miele. I wanted a Bosch dishwasher, but couldn't get one due to production delays, ended up with a Miele and I'm kinda hooked now. But Bosch rates slightly better for reliability, so it's still in the running. Thanks for your video! Nice to see real world experience.
Just know that the Miele an Bosch are not made in China but the GE is...not sure about the LG. Please read my review of the Bosch - above. BTW, I warned my sister of the Bosch ventless dryer and she bought it anyway as she needed the ventless and I saw that they changed all the features I hated and posted on about 6 years ago.
I bought this pair of Bosch washer and dryer 4 yrs ago. The washer is great. I love the allergen cycle. And I always use at least one extra rinse. The dryer on the other hand has recently been giving me grief because of the dreaded DR error code. This indicates a drainage pump issue. I clean out the condenser monthly. But what is hard to get to is the well in back of the condenser underneath a lid which is impossible to remove. This is where the pump resides. This well needs cleaning. I wish the well did not have a lid at all, making maintenance easier.
We have the 500 series too and while the washer is great, we regret getting it with the dryer. The dryer needs a lot of regular maintenance to avoid the DR code you mentioned. Since the dryer powers the washer, you can't replace it easily enough with a vented one. As a result, we do not recommend the Bosch dryer.
It's neat they have the actual heat/cool coils in an isolated loop from the dryer airflow so you can pull the heat exchanger out to clean the lint off it.
We got the Blomberg 24” pair, very pleased with them. The ventless dryer is complimented by the 1600 rpm spin speed on the washer, makes for shorter drying times. These ventless dryers are better explained as a heat pump. Once the idea off a heat pump is understood, it applies equally well to understanding heating or A/C.
Great video, just got a set of this 2 and what appears to be in great working condition, my stackable broke after 16 years, so this thechnologie is new to me, thx for the video
Good Score! You will need to clean up the dryer though. Also if the sump pump does not work you may be able to access it from the condenser area. It's under a white cover on the left side beside the sump pit. Here is the cleaning procedure you will need to do with the dryer. ruclips.net/video/8_CKb2fAQZs/видео.html Good Luck! Cheers! Rob
Rob I have severe depression and think about taking my life all the time. Your videos really helped me through my divorce with your calm and reasonable demeanor, keep on rockin' in the free world brother.
Depression really is a deep dark hole that is easy to fall into but difficult to climb out of. You are not alone. 1:45 The grilled opening on the front is for a cooling fan for the compressor and electronics. You can see the fan right behind the opening. It only comes on when the unit starts to get warm after running for a long time. Mine hardly ever runs. The air that dries your clothes does not get sucked in there, nor does it get blown out the back.
I just had my 23 year old dryer go kaput. It was a Bosch Axxis. I discarded the still-working washer and dryer and ordered the Bosch 500 set. I am concerned I will be happy with the heat pump dryer but I felt like a full-sized unit likely would not fit into the closet I had built 23 years ago for my Axxis washer and dryer. So, my two front load Bosch washer and dryer lasted far beyond the 4 years this man is saying is the life of front load washer and dryers. Now, I will say I am a single person so I don't do a lot of laundry. I hope I love my 500 as much as I loved my Axxis set.
I have this Washer/Dryer combo for 5 years. There was a problem with the dryer didn't dry long enough. I guess I just got that solved with cleaning out that sump pump bowl behind the heat exchanger. The washer is flawless.
I turn mine on before I put the clothes in and see shut the door, and then very gently hold my finger on the start button, you don't need to press anything, just touch it if that makes sense, and since I started doing that it seems to always start first time with no delay.... I love mine and it's so much cheaper to run than my old one 😂 yeah the fluff that comes out, apparently it improves the energy efficiency of you remove the fluff after each load. I think the used air comes out of the front but I might be wrong... It's more like warm than hot... Wish I had a drain near the machine like you have, so I could connect the water hose... The tank at the top left holds enough for two or three loads of washing and drying stops automatically if you forget to empty it be and it's full.... But summer is here now so it's having a vacation 😃
Yeah the house didn't have a bathroom downstairs so I moved the laundry under the stairs, ran waterlines and a vented drain to them. Then we broke up the concrete in the laundry room, had a plumber run the drain pipes, then I installed a tiny 3 piece bathroom where the laundry was. I'm going to try your hack and see if I can start the machines easier. Cheers! Rob
Thanks for the video! Is this a standard size W/D or is it a Junior version? We have a baby and will be washing cloth diapers, trying to see if this has enough capacity for our family’s needs.
They don't make them like they used to! Also Maytag got bought out by Whirlpool in 2006. Front loaders are really bad for bearings and shafts. The old style washers lasted forever...
Hey Rob- Looking at this set now. Now that you've owned it for 4+ years, do you still recommend this setup? ...Does the dryer emit humidity into your living space?
I have one and YES it does emit heat and moisture into the room. We have ours in a guest room and it’s fine when there aren’t guests in there. The dryer is horrible, imo. If you line dry it’s good for a final dry or wrinkle release. But you put towels in the dryer it will take over 2.5 hours and without using dryer sheets, clothes come out smelling “cooked.”
Have you cleaned it yet? There is a sump pit that needs special cleaning attention in the dryer. Here's the video for that. ruclips.net/video/8_CKb2fAQZs/видео.html
My Whirlpool Duet (made is Germany back in the day) was bought in 2004 and still working so that's 14 years and its used everyday with 3 kids. Now the door hinge is going so looking to get a new one sine that part is no longer made. He must be referring to the Korean made appliances when he says 4 year lifespan
Bearings are a common problem across the brands. Appliances aren't made like they used to be and servicing a front load washer is a nightmare. They build the whole washer around the spindle so when you change the bearing and spindle (always change both) you have the entire washer in pieces. You are one of the lucky few to have a working front loader after all these years. Good purchase and great luck! I would check with some appliance rebuild places for that hinge. They may have one. Thanks for your comment! Cheers! Rob
Thanks! They are great so far, however you need to clean them a special way and I of course posted a "how to" video (because I had to...) Here is the link ruclips.net/video/8_CKb2fAQZs/видео.html Cheers! Rob
Excellent, I was looking to add a secondary washer & dryer to my home, But I am not able to make any vent outside, So this will be the best option for me to pick, Thanks a lot for your details overview on this, If you would have shown the washer drain ( where hairpin or some items to collect ) it will be more helpful
Yeah I think I mentioned it but didn't open it, or maybe I deleted that part of the footage accidentally? What you will have to do is clean out the dryer fully which is not in the manual at all. Here is the link for that video.
Just bought a condo with this W/D combo and dryer keeps shorting out. Cleaned out the dryer as you describe in your video but that did not solve the problem, so had a serviceman over recommended by Bosch. He needed to take the cover off the condenser to diagnose the problem, but could not get it off for fear of breaking it. So, he left without solving the problem but did say before he left, if it is the condenser which he thinks it is, it will cost at a minimum $500. for any part and perhaps more if more than one part involved. I/ve already spent $120 for him to come out and do nothing and he told me at this point it would probably be best to buy a new one at $1200. ! This one is only 3 years old.! Not very happy with Bosch or their service. Since I am not original owner Bosch would not even send out a second service guy to see if he could get the cover off without charging me.
I had mine serviced within 6 months. The repair guy and I worked together to access it. Took most of it apart. He said that there might be a way to access it from the inside by the trap door. He said he would try that the next time. (this guy was pretty good and knew what he was talking about. I have some funny appliance repair stories. Most of those guys have no clue what they are doing. Good Luck!
@@robsgaragewoodworkin why did it need service? has it needed service since then? lookign to buy this unit used to put in a rental unit, that way I do not have to drill vent hole in the wall. thanks.
So far so good but you have to deep clean it frequently (4X per year) plus clean the dehumidifier section every couple weeks. Here is the "how to" video ruclips.net/video/8_CKb2fAQZs/видео.html
Hi Rob, I got one of these dryers used that had no power cord, so I am wondering if you can tell me how to connect it in a regular 3 or 4 prong dryer plug correctly? Thanks!
The dryer has a standard 220v dryer cord and plug and the washer plugs into an outlet on the dryer. It’s a weird set up but eliminates the need for 1 wall plug. You should be able to get the part from Bosch directly or you could try an appliance parts shop. I’m close to Barrie Ontario so I go to the appliance shack. The ladies that work there are a veritable wealth of knowledge. www.theapplianceshackon.ca/
SOOOOO I found a life hack for this! Swear to god! Throw 2 (I'm sure 3 would work better) clean tennis balls in the dryer, and use "Jeans" setting to dry on 3. Drys in less time. Comes out fully dry. And softer than usual! It took me 3 years to realize this haha. **THE HACK WORKED FOR ME** P.s. my dryer sheets would ALWAYS get stuck covering the lint trap, but not since I've started using tennis balls in there.
You can actually buy special Dryer Balls for static cling. We have some but the dog steals them if she sees them in the laundry basket... If she found tennis balls they wouldn't last 5 minutes. Thanks for your comment! Cheers! Rob
I bought the Bosch washer and dryer when my Miele died. I am so disappointed in the dryer especially, so much so that I decided to purchase a Miele dishwasher, rather than Bosch and will most likely never buy a Bosch appliance again. I have the ventless dryer and it's a nightmare to deal with! Nothing dries well so I put a ceiling fan in my laundry room and a drying rack too. I dry until it's as dry as possible...difficult on rainy days and then hang everything on the drying rack and the fan on. My frustration was confirmed by a service technician when he told me the dryer is not efficient! Imagine!!! A dryer is not efficient! Just saying...and I love my Miele dishwasher which is so much better than the Bosch I had before!!!
@@robsgaragewoodworkin yes, I clean it regularly and there’s always so much water in it. I was trying to dry all the water when I first had it and the service guy said it needs the water to capture the lint?! Now I just clean it and hate it.
What front load washers are you buying that only last 4 - 5 years? I have a Kenmore front load washer / dryer stack that is still going strong after 15 years.
We are a larger family (6 people) but many of our friends have had the same issues. New appliances are designed with planned obsolescence in mind. On our second set was a front load laundry team by Inglis (our first set was the first available Kenmore in 2005) The washer bearing went at 5 years and within 2 months the dryer also died.
My 2001 Frigidaire large capacity (3.5cu ft washer, 5 cu ft dryer) lasted a good 22 years. The washer's running fine but the dryer now smells like burnt rubber (I guess it's rubber from the soundproofing that melted in; my daughters like to pile up clothes on the dryer instead of putting them at their proper place, but that's another story.) Strong burning rubber smell from the element, it's not the belt. Fire hazard, we could say. Now, since they're pretty old, I don't want to spend much on them because they could give up the magic smoke anytime. Anyway, a repairman said that in this case most of the dryer's guts had to be replaced if it came to this. Soooo... I'm now shopping for a replacement. What did you say about new front load washers? 4 years life? I'd really like to know which models you're refering to, because I want to avoid these like plague. I'm looking for machines which, like mines, would have at least 20 years life expectancy. Why front load? 1: stackability, 2: energy costs (less water/less hot water/my washer wring the clothes really well, so I guess it's a feature of front loads, and drier clothes = less energy lost in the dryer). I'd personally avoid Samsung and LG dryers, mostly because I don't have experience with their possible longevity (and the Samsung Washergate/exploding washers), I'd rather stick with Maytag/Frigidaire because they used to be built like tanks. I'd give Bosch a shot, but they're double the price of other models around here (around 4K CAD$ VS 2-2.5K for other models).
hi Rob, my bosch 500 series washer plug only goes in 1/4 way into the dryer's receptacle before it feels like it's hit a wall. How can I fully plug in the washer plug into the dryer's integrated receptacle? What am I missing? Any tips on how you were able to fully insert the washer plug into the dryer receptacle? Thanks.
Sometimes the receptacles can be sticky. I would first unplug your dryer from the 220V outlet, then I would use a small screwdriver to pry open the receptacle. Try messing with it a bit and see if you can get the plug in. If not, it's a service call. Good Luck!
I was looking to buy the dryer, but the thing about the dryer sheets getting stuck above the lint trap is really bumming me out, does that happen frequently?
You have to clean out the sump pit. I suggest every 3 months. The sump pit is in a bad location and it's poorly designed and not mentioned in the manual. You will most likely need a new pump (I replaced mine at 6 months) When we did ours the tech and I removed almost the whole outside. When completed he suggested the next one he did he would try to get it from the inside. Here is the link to my cleaning video and bedside the access panel the pump is located to the left hand side. ruclips.net/video/8_CKb2fAQZs/видео.html
@@robsgaragewoodworkin Our dryer kept coding DR (not draining). We'd regularly cleaned out the lint areas and near the sump too. After finding a demonstration, we cleaned it out with a wet vac. Bosch repair replaced the pump and recommended we not have our hose empty above the level of where it exits from the machine. It still was coding and the main circuit controller was also replaced. According to the repair person, these are known issues with this dryer. It worked well, if not quirky, for 2.5 years, but I'm about ready to sell them because the dryer is such a drama queen! We hoped they would last a long time, but it's not looking great so far.
Hi, nice presentation. With the dryer, you said it needs a drainage.how much water is it?? Can it be installed and drainage water can go through a gallon container? Ty
You will have the washer and dryer close so the drain tube "should" reach your house drain but if it doesn't you can add extra tubing to it. Thanks for your comment! Good Luck with your install! Cheers! Rob
Hey Rob I have issues with my Bosch axxis dryer not fully drying my clothes. I tried your cleaning method hoping it would help, but even with small loads I noticed my clothes are damp. Even 2 cycles don’t do it.. any suggestions?
Is the mini sump pump working? To test it you can put the hose in a container and see if there is water in the container during the cycle. If there's no water than you'll need a new pump. Good Luck!
Hi Rob. Just moved into a new place and it has this model of dryer. Tonight's my first time using it. Thing is, I can't seem to figure out how to make it run on low heat. I press that low heat button and the display flashes the low heat icon, but it doesn't stay on, which makes me believe it's not working. I'm using the "Jeans" program to run the machine. Any thoughts? Thanks.
The buttons on this machine suck! I have trouble with the buttons all the time. Push and hold for a second and wait extra long for the machine to respond (it's slow to respond). If you press again too quickly it cancels it out. Good Luck! Rob
It's under the staircase but Bosch will have minimum space requirements listed somewhere or the dealer should be able to get you the answer. Cheers! Rob
Hey Rob, I've got a BOSCH 300 series WTG86400UC/08 dryer. It has worked wonderfully for 2.5 years. However, in a moment of stress I slammed the door and broke the door latch. It's not clear to me from the diagrams on the BOSCH website how the latch connects to the white plastic door lock cover, which unscrews with a hex wrench from the body of the dryer. (The latch has fallen down into the body of the dryer.) I'm having trouble finding a repair video so I'm hesitant to drop $ on parts and attempt it myself until I know how it's connected. Does it just snap together? Thanks
Hmmm. I would take it apart first and that's how I would figure out how to put it together. Sorry but I don't have a video for that. Good Luck with your repair! Cheers! Rob
love these videos... have you ever had an issue with the detergent drawer? the middle one always has water in it after the load.... and ive cleaned it every single time
Thanks very much for this. We put these units in a rental, but tenant complains the clothes still feel damp at end of cycle. Have you ever experienced this? I will also check any build up on sensor, but units have only been used about 10 times, so that seems unlikely.
Only with large items like big loads of towels and duvets. Seems like you have to manually move them as the centre of the clothes stay in the centre of the dryer for the whole cycle and are not exposed to the air. Thanks for your comment! Cheers! Rob
Does anyone find these dryers to heat up the area/home too much? I live in Texas and plan to put this in closet where it has the drain / water in, etc. But concerned that it may heat up the closet too much. Also, could you place the dryer drain into the same for the washer drain?
I have the washer and dryer sharing the same drain. Yes you need to have air flow around the dryer. You could place a vent at the top of the closet space and at the bottom to let air circulate. Or leave the closet door open during use.
Hey Rob, I have just purchased the washing machine, thinking of getting the dryer too, do they have to be stacked up? how long is the hose from the dryer?
I think it's around 3 feet. They don't have to be stacked. The washing machine plugs into the dryer and the dryer runs on a 220V circuit. Make sure you clean it fully every 4 months - here's the video link ruclips.net/video/8_CKb2fAQZs/видео.html
@@isaacprudhomme8526 You’ll need to clean the dryer like in this video. If the sump pump spent work you will need a replacement. Then just keep up on the cleaning. Good luck!!! ruclips.net/video/8_CKb2fAQZs/видео.htmlsi=RNqt_Sr_kV4Mwrk7
The main plug is a standard 4 prong dryer plug. The washer has it's own special plug that plugs directly into the dryer so you only need the one 220V outlet.
You say that front loaders only last 4 yrs typically? We’ve had a Bosch (large size made for North American market) washer for 12 years now, washing for a family of 4 including years of washing diapers and only just sold to downsize to a smaller compact washer - also Bosch. If others front load washers aren’t lasting that long they are not well made.
Yes, they aren't well made. We have a family of 6 and have been through a couple sets of front loaders. They are designed to fail "planned obsolescence". One time I bought just the washer (bearing and shaft went on the old washer) and the dryer died 1 month after the washer. Had to replace it too. Brutal! So because of the new ductless technology I thought I would try it as it allowed a different placement. Got the Bosch hoping that it would last. Glad top hear you had good luck with yours. It's reassuring. Thanks for your comment! Cheers! Rob
The buttons are a pain in the ass. Press it and hold it for a couple seconds and then wait 10 seconds before you touch it again. It takes forever for it to decide to start. There is a big delay. Hope that’s all it is. Best of luck 🤞
I really enjoyed this video. We are looking at buying new appliances. Wondering if you still like the washer and dryer? is the ductless dryer still working good? Bosch would be my first choice, so I'm curious to how they are working now
As a European I'm always surprised by American and Canadian thoughts on front load appliances. They are literally all we have used in Europe for a good four decades. No one under 40 has ever seen a top load machine unless it was a vintage one hidden at the back of their grandparents garage! We use them because they are vastly more efficient, wash better, damage clothes less, use less water, detergent and electricity and spin much faster than top load machines reducing drying time. They stack easily and can also fit under a counter top. They are cheap here- a basic washer starts from about £160 which is about USD200. For that, you might expect a ten year life with ordinary domestic use. Bosch is considered mid market, and will cost from about £350 for a mid spec machine. Miele are the very best, will last twenty years plus and start from £600. We are spoiled with warranties here- One year minimum by law, but most come with at least 3 or 5 year warranties, Miele come with ten. Under EU law even after warranty expiry we may still have recourse to the retailer if the machine fails, although with older out of warranty machines this may be a contribution towards the cost of a replacement. Also, just noticed your washers still have hot and cold water connections. Ours have been cold fill only for years. They heat the water internally, which is more efficient, gives more accurate wash temperatures and doesn't cause biological washing powder to loose its effectiveness- when showered with hot water in the detergent draw you can denature the cleaning enzymes rendering them useless. I wonder if the US hasn't switched over to self heating machines because generally washers there rely on a standard electrical outlet which doesn't have the same power supplying capabilities as ours? We can pull 3000 watts minimum from any outlet- dedicated sockets for things like dryers and washers are unnecessary.
Hey thanks for your comment! The appliances in North America and Europe are very different. I have no idea why. The reason we complain about them is because it's absolutely justified here. The appliances are shit now. No joke. It used to be you got new appliances after 20-40 years because you wanted a new kitchen and the colours didn't match your colour scheme or they finally died and parts were no longer available. Now a dishwasher, clothes washer and dryer rarely make it 5 years. The front load washers sounded like a good idea but they are designed to fail. Planned obsolescence! For example, the last washer and dryer set I bought was Inglis and the washer bearing went (cost just $100 more to buy new vs. getting repaired) so I bought a new washer and then the dryer died within a month of the washer. As for the appliances you speak of, they just aren't available here. Just like European cars aren't available here. Our electrical systems are slightly different - normal outlets are 120V but appliances like stoves, dryers and air conditioners run on 240V circuits. You would think with all this "globalization" and "Free Trade" that we would have the same products available but it seems that an ocean apart puts us in a different galaxy for certain things, even if the manufacturer is the same. It makes no sense... Cheers! Rob
A front loader is worth its weight in gold IMO because they spin so much faster so your clothes are dryer when you put them into the dryer. So the dryer runs for a shorter time. There are other advantages but this alone makes it worth it.
I use the same washing machine in India . Is it possible to stack Bosch washing machine and Dishwasher ? Instead of Dryer can we keep Dishwasher on it ?
Both are good names. Miele wasn't available in my area. It's the quietest front loader I have heard. You should be able to find the decibel ratings online - maybe consumer reports? I bought this one because it's ductless. It doesn't need to be vented outside. Cheers! Rob
Yes that would have been a good thing to mention as they are easily forgotten. I was just doing a review and not an install video but you are totally right! I'll add that to the description now. Cheers! Rob
Yes they are the smaller size. Without having to vent them outside made it very easy to locate them anywhere you want them, which is a bonus in this house. I'm also heating my house for more of the year and only cooling for a couple of months.
Warm, moist air might work in a cold, dry environment, but NOT in a warm, humid climate, like most of the US in the summer. Sounds like a mold producing machine to me. I prefer to vent warm, humid air to the outside.
About 2 years. So far so good! Please note there are special cleaning requirements for the dryer ( I found that out the hard way). here is the video. ruclips.net/video/8_CKb2fAQZs/видео.html
Thats one of those repairs where you just start taking things apart close to the lock and underneath the lock and just keep digging until you find it. Good Luck! Rob
I Just got my Front load Washer and Dryer a few years ago and today my Mom hired a man to come to Stack my Washer and Dryer. My Washer and Dryer Is Gray not white.
At one time, Bosch was a quality product manufactured in Europe. Not so any more - they're produced offshore. Now many North American large appliances are manufactured in conglomerated plants that spit out appliances under different labels but look the same and use many similar internal components. We're getting what we pay for, JUNK!
Well not everyone in the world lives in Texas... So you would have to buy the appropriate appliances for your geographical location. This also allows me to place the dryer in an area of the house where I could not put a conventional dryer. Cheers Tex! Rob
I don’t think this is the best. In Europe they have heat pump dryers. Unfortunately we don’t have too many options in USA. The whirlpool heat pump ventless I have has a design flaw.
Rob's Garage Woodworking , the whirlpool is the only heat pump ventless dryer in the US market. The condenser cannot be pulled out for cleaning so if not maintained daily it will clog up with lint. Wish we had high efficiency choices in USA. I like the Bosch but the US model is old tech. In Europe Bosch has heat pump models.
@@rollandelliott , this Bosch a condenser unit, but not heat pump. It works but it’s not the energy saving technology. LG now has a heat pump model that is “self cleaning”. I don’t own it. BTW I own city condos where only ventless dryers can be used (no exhaust pipes for vented machines). I have used many ventless models.
comoxdragonfly Check the drain hose on the dryer to make sure it isn’t plugged. Can try blowing through it to make sure. It’s possible the dry sensor has an issue also. There is a troubleshooting section in the manual. Good luck! Let me know what the problem turns out to be... Cheers! Rob
$3000 for the pair? I wouldn't pay $300 for both, after watching all the hassle of the clean out and everything getting wet when you open it up. I have a Panda portable washer and it's not have the hassle that these are.
Front loaders are pricey and this one is new technology, so of course, they charge more. However it was bought specifically to fit under the basement stairs without the need of venting it outside. I couldn't easily vent a regular dryer from this spot.
The dryer has a 220V plug and they designed the washer to plug into the dryer and use that power source. Not sure why. Maybe because it's a European brand, maybe it's because they want to sell in sets instead of separates or maybe they thought it would be convenient for the consumer to need only one outlet for the set. I don't know for sure and I'm all out of speculation... LOL! Cheers! Rob
I really hate this bosch washer/dryer series. It's so slow, it can take 4 hours to go through one load of laundry. I can't believe it takes over 2 hours to dry my clothes. It also says you can't fully load the washer/dryer for certain settings. Garbage!
Becky Simpson They don't work in the way you think they do! The air in the dryer never vents to the room- it stays within the dryer and the heat exchange unit. It is heated, passed through the clothes picking up moisture. It then passes through the heat exchanger, where it cools, the water condenses out, then the cycle continues. The room air is only used to cool the heat exchanger. It never mixes with the dryer air. The only thing that happens is that it is warmed. This is useful in cooler climates as it warms your house and reduces the need for heating, but obviously not desirable in warmer climates where you will then have to pay to run aircon!
Dryers are normally 240V but washers are usually 120V. It's a good idea to plug the washer into the dryer and run them both on 240V but if the dryer breaks then the washer is useless unless you add that style of 240V outlet.
It's more work but I don't have to run a dryer vent which allows me to place it under the stairs which in turn allows me to add a bathroom in the basement where the laundry room was.
duh this is 2018 video, and this super old dryer looks like from 1990... i never saw that old machines for sale never in my life.. for minimum 5 years all dryers are with heat pumps and self cleaning... and also have steam function.. and cost around 600ish... for me "typing bosch dryer review" in google brings top this video...with some acient dryer... weirdo...
Okay, I was not ready for the ending of your post. 😆
Yeah totally!
Glad to hear they are still working! Married 40 years! Wow! Is that the secret to a long marriage? Gotta do some laundry for some lovin? LOL! Congratulations on that impressive milestone! Thanks for your comment!

Samsung front load washer I bought 10 yrs ago still going strong. No issues at all Love it
I bought an LG front load stackable pair 14 years ago, still going strong.
Miele is just staring to be available here in Canada but its expensive and rare. Enjoy your new appliances! Thanks for your comment!

Rob
Yes it is!
Cheers!
Rob
I had to replace a Whirlpool ventless because I could not clean out the coils. Lesson learned. I got a Bosch because I can access the coils.
Yeah I don't know if I could explain a heat pump any better... LOL! Thanks for your comment

Good Score! You will need to clean up the dryer though. Also if the sump pump does not work you may be able to access it from the condenser area.
How you getting on with this unit in 2023?
Ive had my LG stackables for over 10 years, not a single problem. Use them multiple times per week.

I have this Washer/Dryer combo for 5 years. There was a problem with the dryer didn't dry long enough. I guess I just got that solved with cleaning out that sump pump bowl behind the heat exchanger.
The washer is flawless.
Likely the issue was the sump pit. Unfortunately they did not include any instructions on how to access it or clean it or clean anywhere...
I have the same problem with mine. It takes 2 hours to get the clothes dried. Not happy with all the electricity spent to dry them up.
@@iracelypinto1610 Just clean out that sump pit and it will work again like a charm.
@@fritz4345 Thanks! I just need to locate the sump pit as I have no idea where it is.

Thanks for the video! Is this a standard size W/D or is it a Junior version? We have a baby and will be washing cloth diapers, trying to see if this has enough capacity for our family’s needs.
4 years! I’ve had my Maytag since 2001 and they are still going!
They don't make them like they used to! Also Maytag got bought out by Whirlpool in 2006. Front loaders are really bad for bearings and shafts. The old style washers lasted forever...
Rob's Garage Woodworking Yeah, it seems designs are getting lazy and these companies don’t want them to last any more.

Hey Rob- Looking at this set now. Now that you've owned it for 4+ years, do you still recommend this setup? ...Does the dryer emit humidity into your living space?
Hey Rob, could you reply on this, it's an important question?
I have one and YES it does emit heat and moisture into the room. We have ours in a guest room and it’s fine when there aren’t guests in there. The dryer is horrible, imo. If you line dry it’s good for a final dry or wrinkle release. But you put towels in the dryer it will take over 2.5 hours and without using dryer sheets, clothes come out smelling “cooked.”
I have the same washer dryer and I agree 100% with everything he said
Have you cleaned it yet?

I had my previous Bosch 19 years!!
Awesome! This model needs some further development.
Good Luck!

**THE HACK WORKED FOR ME**
P.s. my dryer sheets would ALWAYS get stuck covering the lint trap, but not since I've started using tennis balls in there.
You can actually buy special Dryer Balls for static cling. We have some but the dog steals them if she sees them in the laundry basket... If she found tennis balls they wouldn't last 5 minutes.

how long does it take to dry?
Did you fully clean it? We never have issues with damp clothes.
Kenmore and Maytag are the two brands that build study products, meaning longer use life expectancy.
@@miao4884 I just bought a Speedqueen washer. Supposedly built like tanks. We will see...
P.S. All front load washers have the issue of water and mold build up in the bottom of the rubber door seal. Basic gravity.
hi Rob, my bosch 500 series washer plug only goes in 1/4 way into the dryer's receptacle before it feels like it's hit a wall.
If you buy the “name brand” sheets they work better than the “economy brand”
My dryer is lighting the DR light after 2 years Pump not draining 18 months old
Used 2 times a week

Good Luck with your repair!

love these videos... have you ever had an issue with the detergent drawer? the middle one always has water in it after the load.... and ive cleaned it every single time
No, that seems to be fine on mine.
Often doesn’t take the detergent into the machine.

For sure, rarely dries clothes completely.
Hey Rob,
I have just purchased the washing machine, thinking of getting the dryer too, do they have to be stacked up? how long is the hose from the dryer?
I think it's around 3 feet. They don't have to be stacked. The washing machine plugs into the dryer and the dryer runs on a 220V circuit. Make sure you clean it fully every 4 months - here's the video link ruclips.net/video/8_CKb2fAQZs/видео.html

No complaints really. Just have to clean dryer vent with vacuum periodically and clean and rinse dehumidifier parts, also periodically.

What kind of plug does it have ? I can't tell what type of 4 prong plug it is.
The main plug is a standard 4 prong dryer plug. The washer has it's own special plug that plugs directly into the dryer so you only need the one 220V outlet.
No manual mentioned that
You say that front loaders only last 4 yrs typically?

I really enjoyed this video. We are looking at buying new appliances. Wondering if you still like the washer and dryer? is the ductless dryer still working good? Bosch would be my first choice, so I'm curious to how they are working now
Yes but it's difficult to clean. Here is the video. ruclips.net/video/8_CKb2fAQZs/видео.html
Good Luck with your purchase!

Cheers!

A front loader is worth its weight in gold IMO because they spin so much faster so your clothes are dryer when you put them into the dryer. So the dryer runs for a shorter time. There are other advantages but this alone makes it worth it.
Are you able to fit a blanket?
Yep. We have a king size bed and it fits a duvet. I’d prefer a larger washer but it works just fine.
I had a whirlpool front load washer that lasted 12 years.
You were very lucky to get that much use.
Thanks for your comment!
Cheers!

I use the same washing machine in India . Is it possible to stack Bosch washing machine and Dishwasher ? Instead of Dryer can we keep Dishwasher on it ?
I'm not sure, but you could always check with Bosch, you just never know. Good Luck!
Cheers!
Rob
Would u go with miele or bashe is it loud
Both are good names. Miele wasn't available in my area. It's the quietest front loader I have heard. You should be able to find the decibel ratings online - maybe consumer reports? I bought this one because it's ductless. It doesn't need to be vented outside.
Cheers!
Rob
@@robsgaragewoodworkin would u go with the vent option if u could
I could have got a regular one but I paid extra for the ventless model.
I thought the heat pump extracted the heat from the exhaust ?
Well the exhaust is still hot but it does remove the moisture. It's cool technology for sure!
Can I use the dryer with 3 prong cord ???
The washer plugs into the dryer and the dryer plugs into a 220v dryer plug.
Can anyone tell me if this machine trips the GFCI like the Miele washers/dryer do? Ty
It’s 220v so it gets lots of power. The washer plugs into the dryer and the dryer plugs into the 220v wall outlet. So far no issues.
@@robsgaragewoodworkintyvm!!
Do you why my dryer would be leaking water ?
Make sure its level, clean the filters and clean the sump pit. ruclips.net/video/8_CKb2fAQZs/видео.html
YOU FORGOT TO MENTION THE MOST IMPORTANT PART! THAT YOU NEED TO REMOVE THE BOLTS THAT HOLDING THE DRUM 🥁 DURING SHIPPING.
Yes that would have been a good thing to mention as they are easily forgotten. I was just doing a review and not an install video but you are totally right! I'll add that to the description now.
Cheers!
Rob
What is this bolt i need to remove? Where is it
I'd rather it vent outside esp in the summer time.I need large capacity as well.
Buy what you want. It works just fine in a high humidity hot climate. No mold at all.
How long have you owned them? How are they holding up?
About 2 years. So far so good! Please note there are special cleaning requirements for the dryer ( I found that out the hard way). here is the video. ruclips.net/video/8_CKb2fAQZs/видео.html
The dryer door lock has loosen and fell inside how do I retrieve and repair?
Thats one of those repairs where you just start taking things apart close to the lock and underneath the lock and just keep digging until you find it. Good Luck!
Rob
@@robsgaragewoodworkin Time to call the repairman unless you live close by...lol - thanks for getting back to me.
Are they still working out well for you?
Still going strong!
I bought a whirlpool stackable along time ago. The dryer vent rusted like with in2 months.
That's terrible! Did you get it fixed or just use it until it fell off?
Is it inverter type?
I'm not sure what you mean.
Will these work in a small apartment?
Yes but they are expensive and the dryer needs careful cleaning maintenance so I wouldn't leave that up to a tennant.
Will it get your floor wet upon opening cleanouts😜
LOL! Just a bit...
I Just got my Front load Washer and Dryer a few years ago and today my Mom hired a man to come to Stack my Washer and Dryer. My Washer and Dryer Is Gray not white.
Cool! Haven't seen a grey one.

I constantly get a DR error with the dryer, can someone help me please
The dryer sump pump gets full of lint and the dryer stops working. Here is my video on how to clean it. ruclips.net/video/8_CKb2fAQZs/видео.html
are you still getting a DR error? See my review above....
@@debbiebiddle3471 i still get DR code after cleaning the sump area too
At one time, Bosch was a quality product manufactured in Europe. Not so any more - they're produced offshore. Now many North American large appliances are manufactured in conglomerated plants that spit out appliances under different labels but look the same and use many similar internal components. We're getting what we pay for, JUNK!
Yeah I agree!
So not really a ventless dryer…?
It vents into your living space and not outside
You should not use dryer sheets they plug up holes with the chemicals in them and you can’t see it
Keep saying heat like we all live in Canada! In Texas that does us no good
Well not everyone in the world lives in Texas... So you would have to buy the appropriate appliances for your geographical location. This also allows me to place the dryer in an area of the house where I could not put a conventional dryer.
Cheers Tex!
Rob
Bob Dylan u don’t need dryer then
I don’t think this is the best. In Europe they have heat pump dryers. Unfortunately we don’t have too many options in USA.
The whirlpool heat pump ventless I have has a design flaw.
So what is the flaw?
Rob's Garage Woodworking , the whirlpool is the only heat pump ventless dryer in the US market. The condenser cannot be pulled out for cleaning so if not maintained daily it will clog up with lint.
Wish we had high efficiency choices in USA. I like the Bosch but the US model is old tech. In Europe Bosch has heat pump models.
Hmmm... Thanks for your comments.
Cheers!
Rob
@@richiesd1 I thought this was a heat pump unit?????
@@rollandelliott , this Bosch a condenser unit, but not heat pump. It works but it’s not the energy saving technology.
LG now has a heat pump model that is “self cleaning”. I don’t own it.
BTW I own city condos where only ventless dryers can be used (no exhaust pipes for vented machines). I have used many ventless models.
Bosch series 8
BOSCH Series 8
this takes 2 hrs and 40 minutes to dry clothes??????
I never paid much attention. I just put the clothes in, turn it on and walk away.
My last bosch stacked set lasted 14 years
This is new tech, hard to know how long it will last.
I just got this set and I’m having a difficult time drying my clothes. The dryer only stays on for 5min. Grr
comoxdragonfly Check the drain hose on the dryer to make sure it isn’t plugged. Can try blowing through it to make sure. It’s possible the dry sensor has an issue also. There is a troubleshooting section in the manual. Good luck! Let me know what the problem turns out to be...

Helo bro
Hello David!
Will the hot air toxic ?
No, just hot and dry...
Cheers!
Rob
Why the washer had different plug
The dryer has a 220V plug and they designed the washer to plug into the dryer and use that power source. Not sure why. Maybe because it's a European brand, maybe it's because they want to sell in sets instead of separates or maybe they thought it would be convenient for the consumer to need only one outlet for the set. I don't know for sure and I'm all out of speculation... LOL!
Cheers!
Rob
I have a Bosch dryer and my advice is......DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY BUYING ONE!
Yeah I had no idea that this would be a problem. It's a bad design.

+marcfj What are the issues please? I'm looking at getting one to match my Bosch front load washer which is approaching 7 years without issue.
@@warrenlaw8595 - The damned thing takes forever to dry my cloths and sometimes they are still damp when I get them back.
Don't use bounce sheets they are toxic garbage for your skin
Even unscented bounce causes a horrible reaction.
3k ...really
For the pair, when I bought them, in CDN $
I really hate this bosch washer/dryer series. It's so slow, it can take 4 hours to go through one load of laundry. I can't believe it takes over 2 hours to dry my clothes. It also says you can't fully load the washer/dryer for certain settings. Garbage!
It's a small machine and very different dryer design. I like it but the maintenance is a royal pain in the A$$...
For inside laundry it would make your whole house smell like laundry soap.
Not at all. No moisture build up, no smell and it saves you money $$$
Terrible video making people not buying the Bosch dryer and washer because the washer needs 240V power supple from the build-in dryer outlet.
Dryers are normally 240V but washers are usually 120V. It's a good idea to plug the washer into the dryer and run them both on 240V but if the dryer breaks then the washer is useless unless you add that style of 240V outlet.
TERRIBLE DESIGN, very disappointed in Bosch on this drier. Too much work for a drier!!!
Yeah it's a pain. If the sump design was better I'd be much happier. Thanks for your comment!
Cheers!
Rob
Way too much work👎
It's more work but I don't have to run a dryer vent which allows me to place it under the stairs which in turn allows me to add a bathroom in the basement where the laundry room was.
duh this is 2018 video, and this super old dryer looks like from 1990... i never saw that old machines for sale never in my life.. for minimum 5 years all dryers are with heat pumps and self cleaning... and also have steam function.. and cost around 600ish... for me "typing bosch dryer review" in google brings top this video...with some acient dryer... weirdo...
LOL! Well this is what Bosch has marketed here in Canada. If you don't like the selection, don't whine to me go whine to Bosch... Weirdo...
Rob's Garage Woodworking just moved into my new place in NYC and this is the set they installed. Am glad the dryer is modular and allows for cleaning.
