One great thing about this unit is that if power goes out while in the middle of a cycle, it will resume right where it left off. Just had a brief outage while in a drying cycle, and it resumed flawlessly, not leaving us with wet clothes. Bravo, Samsung!
Sold, Just purchased this unit. I was leaning towards the GE till i saw this review. Im a maintenance tech by trade, no problem to tear down the top every 6 months and do a PM cleaning those coils out. Thank you for your amazing content! It really helped me decided on which combo unit to buy for my space restricted manufactured home. Oh, and since it was stated, this does run on 110 but make sure your Plug is atleast on a 15 AMP circuit.
For lint removal, if you use the lint to scrub more lint off, it works better. Like, rolling the lint into a growing lint ball, the static from the link easily lifts the remaining lint on the filters. Not sure if what I wrote makes sense, I'm not sure how to describe it. lol
@@crachoryou don’t understand. It has two different filters which catches much finer lint in addition to the more coarse filter. This is because thr air has to go over evaporator coils just like an air conditioner to have the moisture extracted, these don’t vent the super fine lint out through an exhaust to the outside.
I bought this one month ago. Be aware it does not come with a manual. You have to call Samsung because it's digital. It is 85 pages and you need to read it and have it available for reference. There is maintenance that needs to be done after a certain number of washes. It does do a good job washing and drying. The unit is extremely quiet.
@@mr.brownie7491 I think this would be dependent upon how your house is built. I had to add some support directly under the washer in my crawl space as there was too much movement at the beginning of the spin cycle. It's significantly improved now.
This unit's heat pump has an EEV (electronic expansion valve while the GE only has a capillary tube. An EEV can respond to the environment by increasing or decreasing the flow of refrigerant as necessary, while a capillary tube is a fixed system that does not fluctuate with heat load changes.
The GE heat pump is the biggest out of the 3 main ones, theirs the LG and this Samsung. It's the smallest drum though at only 4.8 so you have you to decide if you want a smaller drum that gets the clothes dryer more quickly. For me it doesn't matter it's just me and my gf so I see no problem actually just havening it run for almost 3hrs and not having to fuss with anything. I just need to make room in my updates closet for it and make sure the delivery guys can get it up my damn stairs being so heavy 😂
@@herpnderpn2484 This is kind of like saying you really miss carburetors vs fuel injection. EEVs are vastly more efficient than capillary tubes. Cheers!
All the more reason to get a dog, which is a far superior pet because a dog will not go into the washer, just take out a sock sitting at the edge and chew it up. You didn't need that sock anyway.
Whenever someone complains about total wash/dry time, I always remind her that if she forgets to move the wash into the dryer before going to bed or she gets distracted by other chores during the day, it may take 5 to 8 hours before the laundry is done. My favorite aspect of the combo units is "set it and forget it". Also, YES the S5 was a killer device. I waited for the S10 before upgrading.
Not to mention, if you forget to take your wet clothes out of the washer for a few hours, it will stink and you will either have to wash again or wear clothes with a slight odor.
Exactly! That’s the reason I just bought one. Being able to control through my phone for my elderly mother seems like a great feature. She has dementia and doesn’t do touch screens, so happy to be able to start, monitor, and end cycles from anywhere. Game changer
I bought this model about 3 weeks ago I was waiting for your video but I got ahead I had a good deal going on. But now you confirm I made a Great choice, thank great video very detail and very helpful.
In 1998 I bought a Malber combination washer/dryer. It was Italian made, and I can't remember if it was the WD800 or the WD1000 model. It was a nice machine, very compact. Sold it after a decade still running great. We didn't use the dryer function to fully dry the cloths, just to kind of fluff them up before line drying them. It really worked great in eliminating wrinkles.
If you don't need a combo dryer washer then you basically get double the throughput with 2 separate units. So if you want a dedicated heat pump dryer, lg is one of very few large size dryers. This and Samsung are basically your two options. Lg makes a fantastic unit and I can personally attest as we have been using it for five months and not a single issue. Lg isn't great at all appliances, especially refrigerators, but they have the washer dryer market nailed down. Bosch for dishwashers, etc. lg makes great washer dryer products that are efficient and well designed with serviceability in mind. Not so great if you have a service issue, I hear. Ge has them beat there but their washer dryers are not as good generally.
I disagree on the point of the combo units being slower than individual units. Because i personally forget laundry is in the washer frequently and have to rewash before drying. 🤪
What a fantastic and in-depth review! Thank you so much! Full of technical details along with real life tests! Apart from the incredible review, I never understood why total washing time matters to people, like just go to sleep, work or do something else lmao, it's like a dishwasher, you can wash it fast by hand but it's supposed to take the work from your hand so you can focus on something else.
Man. I don't know. Unless you're doing a wash day with multiple loads, I never understood. With this, I just kept throwing the clothes in and scheduling it to be done when I wanted, not the other way around.
Your videos have been amazing for my wife and I making a decision on an all in one washer and dryer, we went with the Samsung with 4 year extended warranty. We will take delivery of it Thursday, we live in a tiny house so this is perfect for us. We are coming from a whirlpool center stack at 1.6 cu ft washer so very excited for the much bigger washer!
@@Veetus so far been better than expected honesty. I have 4 large dogs and wash bedding on king size bed, large hamper of clothes, and about 8 large towels; that’s 3 loads I do a week! Love the ability to load washer go to work and come home to dry clothes ready to be put up. I wash the dryer filter after every load and with the coil cleaning function I have seen zero build up on coils. Would definitely recommend 💯
Loved the video! It confirmed my theory, this is the only combo unit on the market, so far, to actually utilize a real coil cleaning system similar to the likes of Miele, Bosch, and Asko on their respective heat-pump dryers. It seems like Samsing is finaly listening and making better built machines. ONLY TIME WILL TELL OF COURSE! But its good new to see the quality is indeed better thsn expected, so hopefully this will prove to be a reliable machine overall.
My hope is by doing this video, I can explain/show off where Samsung went right in a way that would eventually push GE and others to incorporate what Samsung did in their designs. I think this coil wash system would be a HUGE help on the GE machine, but unless maybe the public can shame them into it, who knows if they'll change.
ive been waiting for this! I have the LG combo, but the lint built up is bad! The lint building up on the coils is what made my dry times much longer, I find I have to brush off the coils every 10 loads ish. This keeps the dryer working better. Also, I've learned is NOT to put wet towels in the machine. This gives the load cells a false reading which extends drying times A LOT.
I have the GE version and I clean the lint filter and any lint that sometimes does get on the coils after each load. Some might say that's not necessary but I say it is if you want to be sure your machine is running in 100% tip top condition.
@@GoPromoFactory It boils down to who makes the better lint trap. FWIW, in korea the LG combo washer has an updated filter design. Wish I could post a photo of it, but they swapped the rectangular grill post filter for a magnetic lint filter. Doubling the lint trap. I called US support about this , and they had no clue but said theres a new filter assy they could send. Awaiting that part to determine if its the new kit or not. Otherwise I'm going to ask my family to order me one and send it to me from korea. Also, if you use softener or rinse aid, WASH the lint traps after each dry cycle, that stuff builds up and cloggs the lint trap increasing dry times. I deep cleaned mine and stopped using softener/rinse aide and it helps with dry times a lot. You should be able to see thru the lint filter.
I've been using the same washer/dryer for the past 20 years. I'm keeping up with the new machines in case mine goes out. Having a unit based on a tablet design seems guaranteed to be outdated within 5-7 years.
Man did the video come out right when I needed it, I literally was about to leave the house to go buy the GE Profile and from this video I took the recommendation to get the Samsung instead. Because Texas has tax free holiday (aka no sales tax) for some categories of Energy Star appliances (and AC units) this Memorial Day, I have been waiting to get one (saving $200 is $200...) for some months. Plus, Home Depot was doing a $300 appliance discount today and having a coupon to do 24 months interest free payments it was a good day to buy. Now just to wait for the delivery and setup. Thanks Ben!
@@nae6485 Yep, I got it. I've done several loads through it and like it so far. Everything is dry when the cycle completes so there's no complaints on the heat pump. Getting used to the ability to put a load in to run at night and not have to worry about having to put things in the dryer, so that benefit would be a real nice thing to leverage if people have variable electric rates where it's cheaper to run things at night. I did figure out that the fabric softener dispenser can be changed to be an additional detergent dispenser in the settings. The downsides is that it lower to the ground than what I'm used to, so Samsung not having a ready to buy pedestal is a bummer. It's also a heavy beast so any DIY pedestal needs to be stout.
I did notice during a recent cycle that it did do a wash of the condenser coils before starting the drying cycle, so that might be a new preventative item that's been rolled out in the latest software updates. There's still the regular maintenance cycle still listed as an option to run.
The auto open door is the same reason that the LG auto opening dishwashers dry so much better even if you don't use rinse aid. Releasing all that hot moist air out allows the humidity to dramatically drop which aids in evaporation along with the residual heat.
I've been eyeing a combo. I currently air-dry my clothes to avoid excessive heat, which causes a lot of wear on clothes. A heat pump dryer tends to heat the clothes far less, and obviously even these long load times are faster than my current air-drying tendencies. I use my dryer plug to charge one of my cars, and the spot where the rarely used dryer is would be a nice place to put my toolbox freeing up more space in front of my other car. So it just makes sense. I checked the pricing briefly and of course it's expensive, but not as bad as I had expected, so I think it's likely I'll be purchasing one of these in the future. I'm very happy with my Bespoke fridge and my Samsung combo microwave + convection oven. It's nice to see Samsung is getting their act together and making genuinely good appliances.
@@BamSigma Ah lol 😂 In case you ever are allowed and manage to sign in with more than one, let me know! I was curious to know how it would work with multiple people - if multiple profiles are allowed or not.
Thanks for the great, thorough review on this. It confirms what I've seen after owning it for a month. One detail I'd like to add is that the condenser clean cycle thoroughly wets the filter. The added moisture seems to bake the initial lint on the outer filter in a way that seems to inhibit pass-through. That being said, I definitely recommend a hand vac. I purchased the shark wand vac just for this. I figure if this lasts as long as the average air conditioner I'll be well satisfied, And I expect longer given the measures I'm taking to keep it clean
I have the LG combo and I can't complain at all. I've had it 3 years now and it works great. I like that it's large enough for big loads and for my lifestyle it works great for me. It is annoying cleaning the link from it but I'm pleased with it overall.
I also have an Lg all in one the smaller light grey one it cleans amazingly well and dries nicely and I rarely need to clean filter like motor gave out once but I replaced which was super easy amazing machines if only others knew.
it looks like a cyclops one trick to remove lint is to use a piece of big lint to wipe away smaller pieces of lint, they will stick together on contact
NEVER DO THIS!! I cut out those lint dryer filters that are disposable & use taped on Velcro it over the machines NES cartridge one. I made a stack of them so its like changing a diaper with one pull, then slapping on a new one every time. The normal cartridge never sees a spot of lint so it remains new factory day one condition!
@@adamrichardson2227 It voids the warranty, as well as several safety and fire codes. You adding something that insurance wise can be a point of failure or malfunction. You don't speak much lawyer do you?
@@SundayFoggyNotionshow does doing that void warranty of add safety risk? Lint sticks well to more lint by electrostatic charge. I do that all the time and it makes it much easier to remove thin lint on the filter.
@@SundayFoggyNotions I am not sure what you mean adding something. What I thought the OP was saying, and what I do for mine, is using a piece of balled up lint to rub on the screen and on the plastic parts. This completely removes all the lint, even the light film and the stuff wedged in the crevices and corners, much more effectively than any other method. I think maybe you misunderstood, since the lint screen is totally clean after I am done. Then that bigger piece of lint is thrown away.
My Samsung standalone washer is finally dying (gasket deteriorating, leaking under neither, and water level sensor is spotty) after 11-12 years, this is a great video because I've been looking at this unit to replace my two standalone units.
While interested & sincerely appreciate the opportunity to watch this review, as the effort & thoughts are top notch as always! I feel very happy with my separate Speed Queen washer & dryer units and hope they continue to work for years to come.
Yep, I totally understand. Its not for everyone, but for those specifically wanting a combo - having these videos kind of help make an informed choice is good I think.
I have a failing washer and dryer in my basement and so glad I happened upon this video. I need somwtjong big enough to tackle a king size blanket here and there and to be honest, the wash and dry in one unit is looking very good as my failing dryer leaves clothes damp and if Im not running down 2 flights to re run the thing, the clothes have a mildew smell and I have to wash them over again. Why cant a unit like this just be installed upstairs near my bathroom and bedrooms? I'd take over half a small bedroom not to have to drag sheets and bags of laundry down 2 flights in order to drag it back up. Someone come give me an estimate! Thanka for your video. Loved it. Need to purchase soon while memorial day sales are still available.
@@bluegirldeb2099Miele makes a small washer and dryer set, heat pump dryer so their is no exhaust. I was torn bw the all in one unit and decided against the newer tech. The Miele is fairly small and could be put in a closet in a bathroom if needed. Good luck in your laundry choices. 😅
I too have a Speed Queen washer, I love it, and you'd have to pry it out of my cold dead hands for me to ever give it up. While I don't find this review useful for myself, it is useful for people who might be extremely limited on space because of living conditions. I am also a nerd, and I like to see the insides of appliances, especially these heat pump units because they are so new and different (but not necessarily better than what I'm using). It's interesting to see how they work, and the differences in design between the different manufacturers. There are no good authorized Samsung service technicians in my area whatsoever, so that automatically rules out any Samsung appliance for me (plus the horrible experience with my last Samsung refrigerator was the final nail in the coffin). One last comment I'd make, and I have no proof of this, is that this combo unit looks like it could potentially be painfully expensive to have a repair performed depending on what failed if the warranty had expired. I would LOVE to see people make youtube videos about these units 3 to 5 years from now about anything that has failed on this machine, and how much they were quoted to repair it out of warranty.
Hey I just wanted to chime in on this. I had a service call where the return air duct vent tube at the back of the unit got clogged with pet hair. There is 3 bars across it inside it and that's where it gets stuck. You have to unscrew the duct to get to it. It was causing the compressor to overheat and vibrate. I didn't even find that before we had a whole new dryer assembly. So if you have lots of pet hair I wouldn't get this unit.
@@bensappliancesandjunkwish I would have seen this. Just ordered one today. We have a dog that sheds a decent amount. He does stay out of the laundry room so hopefully we will be ok. Would love to have a video to know how to fix the issue if it ever come up
Excellent video. Thank you. Just on comment. Lint attaches to lint. When cleaning the vent simply use gathered link to swipe off the rest of the link. Works great.
Thank you for this review and break down. I've had my Samsung combo for about 5 weeks and really like it so far. With the discounts I was able to get, it cost me about the same as the Whirlpool set it replaced. It dries better than the 2 gas dryers I had before it, and my concern about the drying in the LG or GE is what pushed me to this one. I wish it had a pedestal so I wouldn't have to bend over, and am concerned about putting this heavy sucker on a pedestal when one does become available. I have over 30 loads done so far and still haven't refilled the fabric softener or the soap. The most laundry I've done in a single day is 4 loads, but that is the same as what I did with the separate units. I didn't know about the jets that clean the coils and that will be an issue for us because we have very hard water (>170 ppm).
@@randydrapinski1521 I've not noticed anything like that. It is quieter than the pair it replaced, both in the wash cycle and while drying (but my previous dryer was gas). When I do check on it during a drying cycle, it seems like the 'action' in the drum does not live up to the 'whooshing' sound it makes. I'm used to drums turning faster and in one direction, so this is different.
Interesting, this product just arrived here in Brazil. Probably the first heat pump combo available here. Glad you're the reviewer (love your reviews!).
I’m glad RUclips randomly recommended your video after I watched a few reviews for the GE profile. I’d rather have a 1/2ton heat pump and an Android based interface for a IoT like appliance. OTA updates on all these units will keep washing algorithms dynamic and weaknesses in cycles to a minimum. The mechanicals seems well laid out and I like the smaller opening (smaller seal, higher PSI on sealing surfaces and door weight reduced). I just ripped the wall open to fix a plumbing issues in a 25 year old washer outlet box. I despise how the exhaust vent on the same wall is routed for the dryer (2x4 studded wall, outdoor HVAC COMPRESSOR directly on the outside of the same wall) and there is no easy way to correct/reroute it. So I am simply getting a hybrid. Thank you
I've been thinking about the GE for over a year. Didn't even know LG made one now, until last week. Based on your reviews, I was still leaning towards the GE. Then I discover THIS video and I'm sold. I don't use the soap dispensers but it looks like I can use the multi-function softener drawer for my rinse aid, and I use sheets detergent. Anyway, I just ordered it. :)
Something that I've wondered that I don't believe you've covered before is detergent itself. Have you run into any issues with any particular brands or types of detergent? I personally splash a small spoon-full or so directly inside the tub itself rather than using the provided detergent tray. Something about filling that thing up constantly tells me that the machine uses too much.
Thanks for this video. One thing I don't understand is why the manufacturers don't use a foam filter as well. I have a Gorenje heat pump dryer (I am in Canada) and it uses a fine mesh filter in the door and then there is a separate foam filter located in an access panel. The machine is now 6 years old and the coils are still clean. Perhaps using foam cuts down the airflow to much.
I ended up buying two. Got a NEMA plug adapter from 220 to 110. I had a 2.5 in drain and they run flawlessly right now. If you do two I would install a humidity sensor with a bathroom fan exhausting outside the house just to cut down on heat and/or humidity in the laundry room
I still have my 2008 Fridgedaire front load washer that runs great. this goes along with my gas dryer that has to be over 25 years old and does a great job. I have replaced the belt twice. These new appliances are crazy expensive, needless electronic gadgetry and they do not last long. BTW, my gas water heater is over 25 years old. I replaced the sacrificial rod once and plan on installing a gadget on it so that even the rod replacement will not be necessary. Im not cheap, but practical. I have three brand new $42,000 vehicles. When it is time, it is time, but I prefer value not useless features. The heat pump units are a great idea but their current cost will not be recovered by the energy savings.
I hear you, I have a 30 year old Amana refrigerator with no issues. 2010 LG washer/ dryer set no real issues. I just need to change the wheel in the dryer. But, I have to admit, I'm considering a new set. By choice, not need, so I'm researching the new models.
You genuinely think that blowing 6,000 watts of heat out of a 4 inch hole in the wall is break even with a 700 watt heat pump that only takes about 20% longer? I get it not everyone wants a combo.. but don't dis the DLHC5502, it's a beast and it's what America needed badly!
Thank you! I have a small condo unit and the dryer vent gets constantly clogged during the cold months in Canada. I think this is a perfect solution since it doesn’t require any dryer vent. You are awesome. I just subscribed your channel.
Thank you so much for the thorough and thoughtful review. You hit all the important points. This is so helpful. I really appreciate your insight and hard work.
I was thinking about buying the GE all-in-one unit too. I am glad you posted the video. I am convinced that the Samsung is more superior. I studied the LG unit as well, but it is a smaller unit. We like 5.3 cubic ft on Saumsung's. At present time, no one can match Samsung .
I just got this unit and absolutely loving it, my only hiccup is that there is an overwhelming amount of different cycles, and I have no clue which one to pick. If I am doing towels for example, do I pick Normal (AI), AI Opti Wash & Dry, or Towels? In the manual, the description for 'Normal (AI)" is: For cottons, bed linens, table linens, underwear, towels, or shirts. The washing time and the rinse count are automatically adjusted according to the load"... as you can see, towels are mentioned, which then makes me question, why would I pick the Towel cycle over the Normal (AI) cycle, and then of course there is the AI Opti Wash & Dry which "detects the type, weight, and soil level of your laundry, and then selects the wash cycle settings accordingly", so why would I pick Towels if presumably the machine will pick the best cycle for the current load? Any tips, tricks, or advice on selecting the right cycle?!
I have 2 of the GE units. We've had them for nearly 1 year now with great results. We've gotten use to the "damp" feeling, and through software updates, it seems like it's gotten better. We specifically use a shop vac with micro attachments to clean out the housing and coils(blue set). These machines would be much better if there was quick access to clean the housing and coil.
Another outstanding review! 👏 Would love to see a couple hundred more loads completed then a follow-up review. (And maybe test the dryer without auto opening the door to see if it still comes out dry-dry.) After my GE load is "complete", I try to open the door and let it air out for a bit, this seems to help give my clothes a more "dry" feel.
I cannot for the life of me wrap my head around people caring so much about how long it takes. Unless they don’t realize that they don’t actually have to sit in front of the machine and monitor it.
Same, but exactly the opposite of you 🙃 How can you NOT care? If you have multiple loads to do, well, now you can’t… at least in a decent amount of time. If and when you inevitably have 3 loads of laundry to do, at 3-4 hours a load it’ll take 9-12 hours to get all of them done... especially when talking about an all-in-one. That’s absolutely INSANE! Our washer on a normal wash setting takes 1hr 30min and our electric dryer has a maximum length setting (meaning it will only allow you to set it for this amount of time at most; it does not need the full time in most cases) of 70 minutes and the clothes are always completely dry. My friend got a new LG washer and dryer, both front loaders, three years ago and I watched her start a normal load of clothes in the washer and it said “2hr 55min”. I was absolutely blown away because I’ve never seen such a long wash time before. I thought maybe it’s because it’s new… nope, three years later and it still takes this exact amount of time. Except, that’s just the time the washer tells you, not the amount it ACTUALLY takes which is around ~3hr 20min. I could have two loads fully washed with one load fully dried and another started by the time one single load of hers was only washed. Her dryer on average runs for 1hr 40-50min; again I was shocked and to make matters worse, it was still a bit damp. The only people who don’t care about “how long it takes” are those with too much time on their hands, nowhere to be, or some 1-2 person households. It’s great that you can wait 3, 4, even 5 hours to get your laundry done but most people don’t like that or cannot wait that long. I mean could you even imagine if they put these kinds of machines in the public’s use such as laundromats, college campuses, apartment complexes, anywhere that’s not 24hr access?! Non-24hr Apartment Laundry Building: “Doors automatically lock at 9pm. Laundry must be started no later than 5pm.” It would be a nightmare, lol!
@@user-xf5dj1up8g Well I guess my counter to that would be that the machine takes up half the space and doesn’t need a vent. You could just put two in side by side which saves you the time of having to transfer loads. I have 4 people in the house and work full time to include lots of travel so I am not even home most evenings to do chores but not having enough time isn’t a big issue I have. I was clothes then have to stop cleaning to go transfer them to the drier. Once they’re in the drier I put it out of my mind because I can pick back up with laundry the next day since that saves me a lot of time. If I had an all in one I could skip the transfer step and save even more time. If I had two I could do two bedrooms of bedding per night on bedding week vs one, but one works for me fine now so why change it you know? This just makes me think about how my neighbor’s fancy electric car charges in a couple hours because of his fancy charger while my bucket takes over 10 hours to charge but alas, both our cars are 100% in the morning so I just don’t care.
@@user-xf5dj1up8gwe have two kids. I try to do a load a day. This machine would be a lifesaver for us because no more forgetting a load in the washer having to re run it
Soap dispensers at my feet is an absolute no go. Also the screen, I am not interested in bending over and reading menu after menu. I love my GE and while I understand the lint concerns I have not seen or experienced any increased dry times, I’m unconvinced that it’s a problem but we’ll see as the years march on. For me it’s stayed in that one tiny spot and I’ve had it since launch. This type of machine has been so life changing I will never go back to separate units. I’m really excited that there are now 3 on the market so they will all have to improve to compete. Love the reviews!
@@bluegirldeb2099The reservoirs need filled every 2 months.... is it really *that* crippling that you'd settle for a worse design of machine in terms of wash performance and dryer energy consumption? Actually.. I know the answer to this, because that's why so many Americans are happy with poor cleaning, slow spinning top-load clothes-shredders - the *illusion* of them being easier to get clothes out of!
I didnt know that!@@dregenius First video I'm seeing on this model and dont think it was clear at least to me that this are filled monthly. Yipes. Please calm down a wee bit.
So I Renovated an old condo. Didn’t have in suite laundry but have had the plumber install hookups for an all in one unit. I lean toward the LG all in One. But warranty to me is huge which then brings back to GE. I wish I had seen these videos before because I would have gotten the electrician do a 240 outlet and not 120 because the LG stacked unit system like mentioned here would have ultimately been the better option.
I thought these combo units were a recent idea until I saw an ad in a 1950's magazine for the "Philco-Bendix Gas Duomatic" "It's a washer..it's a dryer..it's two in one! "
Mmmm I work in IT, I have a rooted android phone. I don't really want my Washing and Drying machine to be an attack vector for hostile actors or criminals. Not to mention the potential issues with repair parts. This is a terrible user interface design. I'm a fairly young guy but dammit I want knobs and buttons not touchscreens and AI voice trash.
So far so good, wash takes about 40 mins and drying takes about 80 min. Not bad at all. Also, it qualifies under Comed rebate, I got $300 back so basically I paid $1,500 with taxes! Very well worth it!
Thank you for the awesome review and comparison between the current models on the market. We jumped on a 4th of July sale and this unit fits our needs perfectly.
Future me wants to thank all of you who purchase these units as early adopters. This tech will be the norm someday, but we have a long way to go to lessen the complexity.
For sure. The pathetic warranties speak volumes for the faith these manufacturers have that these will last in the field. It will definitely be a few years before I would be willing to adopt something like this.
Deal breaker for me is the “Terms of Service” on the display. I will never purchase an appliance that is internet connected, and I will never agree to any terms of service on an appliance.
I have the slightest of hard-water and don’t use a water softener. I was worried the sprayer for the condenser would be hard to access if it got clogged before getting a softener if I do. It looks perfectly great. I could pull that out in a few minutes and put it in CLR if I noticed a calcium build-up. I notice what looks like a tiny amount of calcium in the video but without knowing how hard or soft his water is it’s irrelevant. But great to see how accessible the sprayer is. I like that 7.8cu. ft. LG but the wash of the condenser looks like a waterfall, not a pressure wash, which might be good for reliability for people with hard water. Would be great if you could squeeze a go-pro in all the units with a light to show what happens in each one’s coil clean cycle.
Everything Samsung we have has broken down around the seven year mark. Yes, they make great cell phones, but their TVs, microwaves, and refrigerators are designed with very efficient planned obsolescence.
And how long do they support security updates for their Android OS? Their latest phones support 7 years from the first release, I doubt the washer/dryer is expected to be longer.
The funny part is all the Americans saying "heat pump dryers are unreliable - my old WestinghouseSunbeamStudebaker dryer from 1927 is still going strong, only needs the fuses jiggled every now and then and you gotta tighten the lugs on the 4/0 wire feeding it the 200 amps it needs to make all that heat I'm entitled to blow out of a hole in the wall (oh and speaking of that - I do have to watch the vent from the outside to make sure it doesn't start smoldering) but other than that it's never needed a single repair! Cheapest appliance I've ever owned!" just TOTALLY OBLIVIOUS to the COST TO RUN the appliance.... 6,000 watts vs. 700... Something tells me that you'd have to replace a heat pump dryer every 24 months for it to NOT save you money (and the earth). And that's at current energy prices.
Jesus Christ do you ever stop running your mouth about Americans every single time your in a comment section it’s always “Americans think this and that silly Americans!” Give it a break, Jesus.
My only issue with Samsung has amways been customwr service. But, if HD of LW agreed to service locally, no problem. Thanks for the awesome vid Ben! Asked flr a refund on our GE that got stuck in shipping and will be getting this. The fully dry feature and better lint system is key for me
And yet the GE version is still the clear choice mainly because of the 5 year warranty on the important part of the machine that will fail before any other parts. A one year warranty just isn't enough on such expensive machines like these.
Which is why I mention the extended warranty at the end, as you can get the cover to cover warranty on this for 5 years for about the same price as the GE with manfacturers' warranty
@@bensappliancesandjunk extended warranties aren’t a bad idea. But at the end of the day, they do cost money which obviously adds to the cost of the machine. And let’s be real here, we all know how expensive these machines already are. Adding an additional cost for an extended warranty makes them even more expensive. Nope, not for me. I was lucky enough to get my GE version for $1700 after tax when the machine first came out. So far so good. Maybe that’s because I take super extra care with cleaning the lint filter and the coil after every use. It is extra work but I don’t mind if it helps my machine live a longer life. And by the way, I always enjoy your videos.
I had the old style LG (non heatpump) combo and man do I miss it. I bought it because my wife has a bad back and transferring wet heavy clothes was hard on her, especially with the old top loader. The LG went through a drain pump once or twice a year. It was often enough to where I kept a backup. It was cheap and easy to change but still. When it finally died after ~12 years we just went with the cheapest option at Lowe’s…. That was a couple years ago and we’ve both regretted it ever since. I think I’ll be buying this one in a couple months, (gotta save up) but I will definitely only ever buy combo units for the rest of my life. Hopefully this one want eat drain pumps.
Thanks for this educational clip. A system that takes five hours to run is not ready for use. A one year warranty confirms that Samsung doesn't believe in it.

What's *actually* unsophisticated is guzzling down 6,000 watts of electricity in a resistive heater only to blow it all out of a 4" hole in the wall. Vented dryers are a criminally wasteful boomer design appliance. "We just wanna be comfortable, what's burning a few hundred percent more energy going to change?"
Excellent review, i want s combo so bad as i hate moving the clothes over for a variety of reasons. Might be getting this one soon as it'll make laundry more put it in and come back later for dry clean clothes
Nice, play doom on it while it is busy..... On a serious note, this unit seems faster than my washer alone. Being in EU land things seem different for sure. My standard load for the washer takes 3:12.00 so three hours for washing, then have to take the wet close out, throw them in the dryer and wait another 2 hours until clothes are ready. Needless to say, this seems like a step in the right direction.
Slightly off topic; house hot water is set to a max of 120 degrees, and I think best hot water temp for laundry is 140 degrees. Would it make sense to use a separate hot water tank (small tankless) in the laundry room only, set to 140?
I'd always recommend a vacuum for cleaning the lint trap. Saves so much time, and honestly makes less dust in the air, which makes me sneeze normally. I've got a basic corded model that cost
Every 6 months? What the heck? My basic electric dryer needs the lint trap cleaned every 3 loads. Are you sure you aren't sacrificing a bunch of efficiency by not cleaning the lint out more often?
there was a smaller model made by samsung years ago. and it was more smaller! it also had touchscreen, and mobile app. but i dont know how much it was taking to wash and dry but it was good
This is a cool niche channel, keep up the content. I would like to see something like appliance showdowns where you pit 2 or more machines against each other in a series of tests to see which ones are better. Kinda like project farm. Anyway its nice to stop by and watch these from time to time.
I have a grand idea involved in that. Or more than 1 idea. Its absolutely on the table, but I am trying to figure out how to frame the video in a way that would justify it, because buying machines like this just for tests then reselling as used gets EXPENSIVE quick.
If you are interested in buying the combo, Samsung direct has a bonus 1yr warranty program going (2 years) for just $1: howl.link/66z5jfxpzjrp9

Can you give us any feedback on how do you like it so far?
6:20 - Finally a heat pump combo that can fully dry the clothes! I'm in a humid environment so damp clothes == mold, so this is awesome
For lint removal, if you use the lint to scrub more lint off, it works better. Like, rolling the lint into a growing lint ball, the static from the link easily lifts the remaining lint on the filters. Not sure if what I wrote makes sense, I'm not sure how to describe it. lol
Exactly, what I do works well and is quicker
Came down to comment and confirm this is the way. The way he was doing it in the video was making my eye twitch.
It absolutely does make sense I do the same thing LOL
@@crachoryou don’t understand. It has two different filters which catches much finer lint in addition to the more coarse filter. This is because thr air has to go over evaporator coils just like an air conditioner to have the moisture extracted, these don’t vent the super fine lint out through an exhaust to the outside.
I alway wet my fingers
I bought this one month ago. Be aware it does not come with a manual. You have to call Samsung because it's digital. It is 85 pages and you need to read it and have it available for reference. There is maintenance that needs to be done after a certain number of washes. It does do a good job washing and drying. The unit is extremely quiet.
I'd assume this is because of the display, it has the manual built in
Even during the most aggressive spin cycle settings it's still very quiet?! No vibrations on the floor etc?!
@@gnewt75 Yes, it's very quiet. Floor does not vibrate.
@@mr.brownie7491 I think this would be dependent upon how your house is built. I had to add some support directly under the washer in my crawl space as there was too much movement at the beginning of the spin cycle. It's significantly improved now.
@@gnewt75 That's due in part because it's so heavy. I felt sorry for the delivery guys carrying it up the stairs.
This unit's heat pump has an EEV (electronic expansion valve while the GE only has a capillary tube. An EEV can respond to the environment by increasing or decreasing the flow of refrigerant as necessary, while a capillary tube is a fixed system that does not fluctuate with heat load changes.
So Samsung better?
@ryanthibeaux on paper yes. In real life is there a substantial difference? i don't know.
Sounds like an expensive failure. They have had expansion valves that operate purely mechanically for a century.

😊
I just love how concise and thorough you are!
Your videos are strangely compelling. Great work!
I love the auto opening door less mold!
You rock man. Love that you are thorough and truly unbiased. Just ordered the LG heat pump dryer based on your review.
Why did you choose the LG? I’m stuck between the LG and this unit.
@@GoPromoFactory samsung real good
Also stuck, why LG?
Just got this a few days ago. Keeps kicking code 5C! Checked the filter and no problems, drain hose is properly elevated, it’s driving me crazy!

@@bensappliancesandjunk A better filter on the GE would be a first step...
BTW, some peoples sell mods to improve that filter.
Best honest reviews on RUclips
ive been waiting for this!
Thanks for the info!
I have the GE version and I clean the lint filter and any lint that sometimes does get on the coils after each load. Some might say that's not necessary but I say it is if you want to be sure your machine is running in 100% tip top condition.
Do you think this unit is a better choice than the LG? Why?
Having a unit based on a tablet design seems guaranteed to be outdated within 5-7 years.
not to mention how ugly these look. call me crazy but i hate the minimalist designs. these units all look super ugly very
Turning a knob is quicker and easier.
Thanks Ben!
thanks for this. Hoping to get a deal on this as well
We need a follow up after you’ve put the unit through some cycles, please!
Did you get it? How’s it holding up?
Some Samsung dishwashers do this as well
Didn't even know these existed. I've been doing this manually forever.
Our Miele does this also and dries waaaay better than our older Maytag
My Samsung dishwasher auto opens as well. Absolutely love the feature.
Just got this yesterday. Works great so far. Did like 5 loads already

Can you do 'only wash' loads? I use a clothesline in summer months. Thank you
The Samsung unit popping open the door is more important than most folks realize.

Great feature because it's hard to normally do it on my own ????
It's a minor detail that is great. Especially if you run when at work. Reduces mildew smell on clothes!

one trick to remove lint is to use a piece of big lint to wipe away smaller pieces of lint, they will stick together on contact
@@SundayFoggyNotions Because why? What is the difference in removal method if it does remove the lint?

Does your vibrate and make an airplane noise during the dry cycle? Reminds me of a 60's refrigerator
@@randydrapinski1521 I've not noticed anything like that. It is quieter than the pair it replaced, both in the wash cycle and while drying (but my previous dryer was gas).
Bonne question.
Samsung needs to add a second spray nozzle thingy to the lint filter box to self clean that too!
Bens Appliances and Junk, This is fantastic! I subscribed because I love it!

Thank you so much for the thorough and thoughtful review. You hit all the important points. This is so helpful. I really appreciate your insight and hard work.

It's been a couple weeks, how do you like it so far?

According to a Samsung rep there will be a pedestal available for this in August 2024.
Software update made them better but you might have noticed that it runs longer. Seemingly over-drying now.
You had me at "root the system" and "install Doom"! 😆
Same, but exactly the opposite of you 🙃
How can you NOT care?
Laundry must be started no later than 5pm.”
It would be a nightmare, lol!
Was with you until the kid came along. They're a 3x laundry multiplier...
@user-xf5dj1up8g that is why you buy 2 or 3 of them and spread them around the house
@@user-xf5dj1up8gwe have two kids. I try to do a load a day. This machine would be a lifesaver for us because no more forgetting a load in the washer having to re run it
I'm really interested in this type of washer/dryer. Thanks for reviewing this!
I'm hoping that GE steals the water sprayer design, because that would help it a ton
I hate the dispensers at the feet! Get everything off the floor...Getting back pain just watching this
@@bluegirldeb2099The reservoirs need filled every 2 months.... is it really *that* crippling that you'd settle for a worse design of machine in terms of wash performance and dryer energy consumption? Actually.. I know the answer to this, because that's why so many Americans are happy with poor cleaning, slow spinning top-load clothes-shredders - the *illusion* of them being easier to get clothes out of!
@@bluegirldeb2099 They make a pedestal that lifts the machine off the ground about 15" and has a drawer for storing things.
Wait, what happened to all of your Speed Queen recommendations? Nothing beats analog and simplicity.
This is about a combo unit, and the kind of person that wants one isn't going to look at something like a Speed Queen honestly.
Also, speed queen doesn't make an analog machine anymore. The TC5 has circuitry in it
@@bensappliancesandjunk Time to get a used (20+ yo) maytag washer that will last another 20 years
Will the unit remind you when todo a service?
This guy made me subscribe.
I thought these combo units were a recent idea until I saw an ad in a 1950's magazine for the "Philco-Bendix Gas Duomatic" "It's a washer..it's a dryer..it's two in one! "
Combos are what you see in Europe
Different technology, same function.
Oh heck yes another heatpump combo unit thanks man!!!
@@GeorgeWashingtonLaserMusket LG seems to understand this, their WM6998 has a much nicer interface that doesn't suffer from Android Lag. Lol.
Thanks for the review. Just bought 1. Can I use laundry scent booster beads in this machine?
So far so good, wash takes about 40 mins and drying takes about 80 min. Not bad at all. Also, it qualifies under Comed rebate, I got $300 back so basically I paid $1,500 with taxes! Very well worth it!
Nice!
Where did you purchase from?

Thank you for the awesome review and comparison between the current models on the market. We jumped on a 4th of July sale and this unit fits our needs perfectly.
NICE! Glad it helped!
Future me wants to thank all of you who purchase these units as early adopters. This tech will be the norm someday, but we have a long way to go to lessen the complexity.
Same here. Having sudden competition by the major brands gives me hope that this will be the norm and the next generation will work out some kinks.
For sure. The pathetic warranties speak volumes for the faith these manufacturers have that these will last in the field. It will definitely be a few years before I would be willing to adopt something like this.
Getting a combo isn't only just about space but also the energy savings with a heat pump system. Having two of these would be great
Deal breaker for me is the “Terms of Service” on the display. I will never purchase an appliance that is internet connected, and I will never agree to any terms of service on an appliance.
Good point! 👍🏽
I agree, all Samsung appliances and computer equipment I've owned broke down quickly but cell phones are fine.
@@dregenius Exactly! But it's far too hard for "the masses" to do basic math, let alone calculate for the future! (Your comment was gold, BTW)😅

“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.” - Leonardo da Vinci. Today's technology is some of the most unsophisticated technology ever...
Needless to say, this seems like a step in the right direction.
what about the sound? i often need to do laundry just before i go to sleep and leave it going until morning
this video was my make or break to buy! mine just came in yesterday! thank you so much!!!!!!!
Slightly off topic; house hot water is set to a max of 120 degrees, and I think best hot water temp for laundry is 140 degrees. Would it make sense to use a separate hot water tank (small tankless) in the laundry room only, set to 140?
This unit does have a hot water heater in it for certain loads I believe
I like and love the Samsung AI Bespoke washer dryer combo.
Terrific video and analysis. You’ve done a tremendous amount of work, so thank you for the effort and for the information.
Thank you so much for your review. Excellent info. I’d like a combo unit one day if my current setup fails.
Its absolutely on the table, but I am trying to figure out how to frame the video in a way that would justify it, because buying machines like this just for tests then reselling as used gets EXPENSIVE quick.
if you live in Canada i work at store called Castletown. retail price for this washer dryer is $3216 plus tax and we are selling it for 2,449 plus tax
Thank you for your thorough but easily understandable reviews.
