A Japanese RPG has a better PC port than Deus Ex. What a world we live in.
I read a review that says the PC's framerate turns to shit towards the end of the campaign. Just a heads up
jrpg usually more forgiving on your PC than western title, jrpg tends to focus more on the story and "anime graphic" than making the game looks "real"
Maybe if you didn't have a shit PC, Deus Ex MD would run better on it. I had no problems with the game.

Its a port of psp and vita game from 2013, devs did all they could to make this game look not to artrotious on ps4, but with limited japan budget/small studio and deep roots in portable consoles we cant expect miracles.

Optimisation is a mith, man, it simply means to cut out enough so game runs well enough on designated platform.
In this case the base was psp/vita engine so no cutting would help to reach 60fps since game was made with 30 in mind, same like FFagito port or more recently pc port of Tales of Zestiria which moder only could fix, this studio is tiny compared to squeenix.
Would have been awesome when the game looked as good as the anime does. Maybe next time and with a "next gen version".^^

It's pretty insane how awful the sound quality is, especially in cutscenes. It's very strange that god eater resurrection didn't really have this issue.

Well I treat it like a job. So when there is downtime. I take it. When games need to be reviewed I do them. regardless of day...or time as I am up right now hahaha. And was up at like 4am this morning and its 12:30 the next day here. I just like games play them and talk about them

Nicely balanced review. Last played God Eater 1 on the PSP many years ago. Never actually finished it so on the strength of this I think that playing the PC versions would be great on the next sale.
I'm interested in this for the combat mechanics and was pleased to hear you say the PC port is 60fps with high resolution options. Too many Japanese game PC ports have had sub par releases

After the many reviewers I watched I finally found someone who took their time to actually REVIEW the game. not just throw up a 3 or 4 minutes video saying either this game "this game isn't monster hunt don't get it" or "this game isn't monster hunter it's has its own style and feel" and you went for the in-between which most fellow god eaters I think would properly agree on where it's at. I completely agree with everything you said on both pros and cons.
Overall loved your review I already got it and I'm loving it. but your commentary was awesome and made me laugh.

I've seriously been thinking of getting a ps4 just for GE rage burst with resurrection because of my deep love of the first game and how much I (still to this day) enjoy it. Is it worth it? I'd love to hear people's opinions on this. (Mind you, I'm thinking of waiting for a ps4 price drop) thanks
this port is actually unbelievable, it shines in co-op, best monster hunter PC game out right now.
Would you reccomend Resurrection over Rage burst for someone who has never played a God Eater game? Ive never played a God Eater game and Resurrection is 19.99 over 60 for Rage Burst.

I wonder if you tried Freedom Wars on Vita and which one of these do you prefer on it? I've been thinking about buying Freedom Wars for about half a year now and I loved Toukiden and Soul Sacrifice o.o

Freedom Wars is good, it's worth it's cheap asking price, but it's not the best hunting game on Vita.
In my opinion it goes Soul Sacrifice Delta, Ragnarok Odyssey Ace and then Freedom Wars. Haven't had chance try Toukiden yet

I personally was a big fan of this game. I have about 110 hours into it. You do make very valid points on the maps ( which get insanely beautiful by the end game ) and the sound lacking at times. Haven't played it too much with friends but when I do it is so fun. Moreso when you are going against a big monsters spread throughout the map and you split up to make things easier with your friends. The combat to me is so fun that I don't mind grinding for materials. This game is great for those who love Monster Hunter but find it too slow like I do.
So I have both a ps4 and a vita.Am I better off buying it on the vita and play it on the go?

Sadly as many aren't compatible fully with all consoles and PC I do a bit more switching than I would like. And i am currently reviewing 2 different pair.
But daily work on pc Sennheiser PC 333d. Which is a good mid to low priced set which reflects about the average amount a gamer might spend without going nuts. A bit cheaper now than when I got them.
For testing music, sound and such I actually use monitors as well not just headphones to check the unaltered signal.

When I saw the early gameplay footage I was skeptical though, then I found out about it originally being a PS Vita game and my expectations went out the window. Can't believe this is $60!
The 60 bucks one you get both GOD EATER Resurrection and Rage Burst. So you get 2 games in one. Granted both games are HUGE.
animedudevid It's all about quality, not quantity. I don't care if it comes with every God Eater anime! If the game sucks, it sucks, and from what I see here and on Twitch, it does.
Have you tried Freedom Wars? This looks pretty similar to it (Kinda Monster Hunter Like)
Pretty sure that the lack of pause during missions is a genre-standard to accommodate it being an online multiplayer game. Is it particularly different from the Phantasy Star Online series in that front? I think the only other feasible alternative is to let you equip specific item loadouts before a match and simply lock out all access to your inventory, and you still wouldn't be able to pause a game where you may be co-oping with a dude in Chechnya and a couple in Texas at any given time.

So if my girlfriend and I have been playing Monster Hunter Generations, and I'm still playing because I like the animeness of the hunter arts and styles, and she dropped off because she liked the slower pace of MH4U, how much would we play this game together?
I'm currently playing this game and I love the Variant Scythe it's an awesome melee weapon and I finally figured out how to chain Round Fang in to the Extend Fang and then chain that into Split Fang so now I can do some high damaging combos like start with Round Fang then go to Extend Fang then go to Split Fang and finish off with a devour strike.
I made Ruby Rose as my character sheerly because of the scythe XD
are they going to have a pycal copy of this game for the vita

yes you can, the game also cross platform.. you can play with ps4 and vita, dunno about pc.

Did you play God Eater Resurrection? I played the shit out of it and since I never really give a shit about graphics or frame rate, but I would like to know if they are the same as Resurrection. I'm still gonna get it anyway.
I bought Rage Burst with resurrection download code And I like resurrection more.much better characters And sound plus gameplay Is better.
I think the pause complaint is nitpicky because as soon as you press the start menu and quickly press X you pause the game. Simple, easy, quick.

Vita version has a nice bonus, it's cheap. Seriously, my pre-order copy was only £20, that's £10 per game as it has both Resurrection and Rage Burst in it. It's less than half the price of the PS4 version, and it basically operates just as well.
Don't update it stay in 3.60 if you want to play games for free.

Awesome and fair review as always. ^^ I really liked God(s) Eater Burst on PSP back in 2010 as a nice alternative to Monster Hunter. There aren't all that many games in the hunter genre so i was really looking forward to this Remaster finally coming out in the west. Yeah it's not the prettiest and the gameplay isn't for everyone, but since i LOVE MH i'm used to dated graphics and grinding. :P Can't wait to sink many many hours into both Resurrection and this one.

Yuuuup crafting and upgrading ur weapons seems like the most fun especially when ur rewarded with a great battle i just wish it had the variety of maps like how monster hunter had (ex. Spider monster was in a weblike map, moneymonster was in a jungle map, and shark monster was in a ice/water map) in this game it seems like most of the maps look the same

Nice review =) Only thing i disagree with and this is totally a personal preference is the menu in battle to me it being clunky and not pausing gives of a fumbling to find something in battle aspect and adds tension to some fights when you are 1 hit away from death.
bought this day one on PS4 because i loved the 1st game on PSP this game is definitely more my style than monster hunter which to me is absolutely unplayable without friends but as i said great review

The fact its 70$ for a simple vita port makes it a wait for sale for me. i loved god eater on the PSP but 70$ is asking A LOT for a port, when every other company is asking for half of that for ports of vita games.
And the monster hunter series tends to be 45-50$ brand new over here. This just feels like Namco Bandai taking the piss.
