A Sequel of Divine Proportions - Let's Talk About It: God Eater 2 Rage Burst

  • I remember this game going on sale shortly after I finished Resurrection and I picked it up immediately. The transition was pretty seamless considering both games initially came out within a few years of each other and the gameplay mechanics were almost identical. If you count the Rage Burst arc, then it's about the same length as Resurrection. It took me roughly 80 hours to clear the main story (with grinding) and I spent another 20 hours doing extra missions and leveling up my favorite Blood Arts. The story is going to amount to personal preference, but I thought it was pretty good. Overall, if this is your first God Eater, you'll enjoy it. If you liked the first game, you definitely won't be disappointed.
    First impressions on this game:
    • First Few Hours: God E...
    Resurrection review:
    • Snacking on Deities - ...
    I don't own any of the songs used in this video. All songs come from the game's official soundtrack and belong to its composer, Go Shiina.

    Hey there, fellow God Eater. I wanted to make a clarification on your analysis on the end of God Eater 2. You're right, Yuno and Julius were the two candidates for becoming the Singularity. And yes, Yuno sang at the 2nd Devouring Apocalypse...but it was to spur on and empower a "3rd" Devouring Apocalypse so it could counteract the 2nd one, which led to the creation of the Spiral/Helix Tree. Basically, fighting white fire with black fire. Also, the reason why Rachel wanted to absorb Julius near the end was to bring about the 4th Devouring Apocalypse on her own. Another classic example of "If you want it done right, do it yourself."
    I wholeheartedly agree that this sequel was weird, to say the least, though. Still enjoyable. Survival missions are suicide missions, Blitz Hannibal is a prick, Crimson Orochi cannot be attempted, let alone beaten, without absolutely maxed out stats (but that's my guess), and teamwork makes the dream work.
    Happy Hunting!

      @@weaponsci You're very welcome. Stories are what I look for in JRPGs. They're my focal point, as a writer myself. So far, this is the only game where I can say, "There were 3 2nd Apocalypses averted in one story." It's hilarious.

    I completely forgot to talk about shotguns and didn't realize this until after rendering the video. They're meant to be used at close range and pressing R1+O makes the character leap forward; bringing them closer to the enemy.

    about romeo's revival: the theory is that because his god arc was present. during the first several second of the world reset apocalypse(which after devouring the field the oracle cells just remake the natural element of the area, plant ground and all. which is why moon looks like earth now.) it renders romeo back to life because it come to the conclusion of, "oh, active god arc is here, wielder should be too"

      also about magatsu, there's a very strict strategy about beating it, i'm talking characters have to be on specific slot of the team strict.(because the disperse order would send them to specific area of the map and one of them have to be defensive enough to stall the kyuubi) tell everyone to disperse, stun grenade, beat other aragami in the area. every time it tries to siphon your health bar, stun grenade. don't heal, just link aid since it recovers the bar.

    Am I the only one who feels like both the first game and this one try to make you see and feel things from the main villain's perspective before giving you a reason to care for the world they seek to end ?
    Just think about it. In the first game, I can not be the only one who didn't start caring about the characters until Alisa and Shio (they were my baby girls, just like Soma was Johannes's baby boy, to an extent) entered the fray, and thought Kota glorified too much our supposedly peaceful times.
    And in this game, not only I care more for the team here, since starting right away with the younger ones mixed with what happened to Shio helped me create a greater empathy for the characters, kinda like doctor Rachel sees herself as their mother though in a twisted manner, but I also see doctor Leah, that director and Friar's laws as wicked to an extent.
    We may create the main protagonist, but the characters that have truly made me immerse are the main villains and their ideologies, because they are an extremist reflection of me.

    • @weaponsci
      @weaponsci  Год назад

      You could argue Johannes from the first game had the right idea but poor execution. He truly wanted to make the world a better place but was willing to sacrifice millions upon millions of innocent lives to achieve that. Essentially negating his own good will imo since these are the same people he's supposed to be protecting.
      Rachel is kinda odd. We actually rarely get to see the "real" Rachel because after she was infused with that bias factor she managed to recover but her morality was overwritten with that of an Aragami; ie consume everything in sight, and throw anyone who gets in your way under the bus.
      I don't think Leah is "evil" per se, though you could argue she is a bit morally bankrupt. If the sexual favors she did for Grem (and later the MC) are anything to go by.

    • @JabamiLain
      @JabamiLain Год назад

      @@weaponsci their plans' execution still helped me immerse regardless of their methods.
      Also, there are theories that claim Rachel wasn't completely overrun by the Aragami. For example, even before the Aragami, she already had strange habits due to her status as a quiet kid. And as a quiet kid myself, I can assure you that when you have strange habits, your morality and ethics might already be a bit bankrupt as well, or are prelude of it. I think Rachel's Aragami merely amplified what she already felt inside of her. Without it, she might have not developed the wish to eat or her religion, but she would still very likely play favoritism by making this mental competition she does with the unit in the game, organize mini revolutions of her own to take control of Fenrir, etc. In other words, she might have become greedy and power hungry due to feelings of neglect and weak attachments.
      And Leah might not be exactly evil, but she sickens me, using sex to get what she wants or needs... There are other ways to seduce people without selling your body like that. I know I must sound like some religious freak, but it's what I think.

    Also, Rachel eating Julius is her trying to start the Devouring apocalypse early. (Julius was meant to be the the Singularity)
    And the Devouring apocalypse was meant to "reset" the earth.
    So Rachel starting it early means the earth is going to get completely devoured with no chance of resetting.

    Sakaki said that a singularity is a condensation of the will of black plaque victim for a common goal into a candidate. The song was made as the center point since song can make people come together.
    This is also why Rachel had black plague patient give conscience to the God arc soldier which were then controlled by Julius so they shared the same will.

    Great review. I'm not sure why but, I have some sort of fake nostalgia for this game. I often think about it and even though GE3 fixes a lot of the issues I had with the pacing, I tend to remember GE2 more fondly.
    It's really weird because I remember myself pleading for the game to end at some point.

    rachel wasn't controlling the red rain. the red rain was the worlds second attempt at creating a singularity since the first one was sent to the moon. aragami are basically a natural reaction by the world as a sort of reset. the world is devoured and then reborn anew. the restless god rachel spoke of was basically the will of the world. she followed and carried out the will of the world. if you ask why could she hear the will of the world. it relates to the treatment that "cured" her. the manehatten project was the origin of all god eaters. soma and rachel are the only ones who recieved the special bias factor. the original manhatten project was shut down because everyone involved in it aside from soma and his father were killed. the basis for the project was to inject oracle cells into a fetus in the womb so it would develop with those cells and the body would produce its own bias factor. in every way soma was superior to regular god eaters because of this.
    normal god eaters have a strain of bias factor that is injected into them periodically through the armlet. soma and rachel are closer to aragami as their bodies produce their own bias factor. you could say that becoming more aragami than human is what connected rachel to the will of the world. the reason why Rachel went ballistic at the end was a sort of twisted sense of humanity refusing to allow the world to have her julius. despite all her schemes and evil deeds deep in her heart she did care for julius as her child. the reason romeo was revived was his soul resided in his god arc the same god arc livie was using. when the devouring apocalypse activated the whole blood unit was devoured and then reborn anew their original bodies were destroyed and then recreated anew. romeo's soul was given a new body of course because he was only a soul he did not retain any memories of what occurred after his death. as for Yuna singing an apocalypse into existence. every plague victim carried within them the special bias factor granted it was so small it was basically worthless by itself. yunas song basically acted as a focal point uniting all those scraps of the bias factor and then the MC used Evoke to amplify that even further to reach the level necessary to trigger a devouring apocalypse.

    30:20 I disagree back when her sister explained Rachel's backstory about the experimental surgery implanting the p73 bias factor into her made me think that she wasn't herself especially since she had such a dramatic change in personality after that and yes people can drastically change due to tragedy but the tip about her being brain dead and knowing the circumstances surrounding Soma's birth I knew she wasn't herself.

    • @ProfessionalNamielleLewder69
      @ProfessionalNamielleLewder69 2 месяца назад

      That's a good point. Rachel's true personality this whole time must have died during the impromptu parkour down the stairs and the Bias Factor is the one piloting her body with the leftovers from her brain serving as a template.

    Finally beat rage burst just earlier and despite beating both arcs, compared to when I beat resurrection, I feel unfulfilled. I feel like I missed something. I believe it's due to the fact I created and upgraded many weapons in resurrection. With rage burst, I have so many questions marks for gear I have yet to unlock and no way of knowing how to do so.

    • @weaponsci
      @weaponsci  Год назад

      GE2 and Rage burst has a lot of optional missions so they're probably why you have so many missing crafting spots.
      For example there's a set of weapons named after the twelve tribes of Israel that don't unlock until you fight world closer (Rachel) a second time.
      Orochi is an aragami with his own weapon set but he's only seen in an optional mission.
      Then there's the reinforced weapons which unlock when (or if lol) you beat Crimson Orochi.

    Did you relate and care more about the characters from "God Eater 1" or 2 ? Like I said, it was easier for me to connect to the ones from the second game, due to my grief over Shio and the fact we started with the younger ones rather than the older officers. I even liked Romeo, and let me tell you, I HATED every second that Kota was on the screen (though I'll admit, that scene between him and Alisa arguing over how Shio should be taught to talk was pretty funny).
    I know how Romeo felt, even if I am at the opposite of his spectrum. Sure, I have academic smarts, creativity and politness, but without those, how can I really make it in the world ? I don't know how to cook, don't know how to organize my clothes, I'm average at best when it comes into calculating my money, I barely go out, I'm afraid of driving, and at social communication I'm like either Ciel or Julius (unless it's oral presentations, I rock at those) !
    And I found the relationship between Romeo, Julius and the vice-captain interesting, so much so, I wished there had been more scenes between Julius and Romeo, just so I could be sure of everyone's theory. While it is not explicit, it's pretty clear they both mean a lot to him, so much so, that you could say Romeo's love for them could CRUSH the young man.

    Personally, I prefer GE2RB over GER.
    Most people prefer predatory arts over blood arts but I'm the opposite because when I play GER, I tend to forget that predatory arts exist and so I play old-style God eater. With blood arts in GE2RB, they are pretty much always there (although I wouldn't have mind it if they gave us at least the air devour).
    That being said GE3 definitely beats GE2RB in terms of mechanics (and even graphics). Like they can use 3 types of special arts at the same time? And you can preview them in advance without having to go constantly to the operator to enter the training just to test out the art? 2 additional melee and 1 additional gun weapons?!?! Leap forward with your shield during missions?!?! Holy shit, if GE2RB had it all, it would have been so much funner.
    Storywise? Eh, all 3 games have some issues regarding that. I personally don't like GER's story at all.
