If you don't want to deal with mess, use an oil extractor. That is what I did. The spill from the filter was quite minimal. I can't jack up my car or get underneath it as-is so this works well for me. I used to believe in the "can't swap conventional for synthetic" myth, but it's not true. Way back in the 70s when synthetic was designed it used to have esters that made it hard on seals, but that's not true. As long as the oil meets or exceeds the specs for your vehicle and is the correct viscosity, it's good to go. I have a 2003 Lexus ES300 that I've owned for 10 years (second owner). It's always had conventional until just last week where I did my own oil change and put in Costco synthetic. No issues whatsoever.
UK viewer here, fully synthetic is a must. Here some of use use thinner oil in the winter/fall time & many has this ideology to change oil every year even if it's 12,000 miles! Because that's what many has got in their heads....reason? That's the average/normal miles people drive, silly eh. Good oil no more than 6,000 miles a year is my theory. There's this engine oil called "Mannol" & many of Brits use it, it's cheap, real cheap! But driver go like 10,000 miles or whatever EVERY year, so many cars over here are trashed due to cheap oil with long intervals. With just an extra £10 we can get decent proper oil PLUS many go to the local parts store to get £3,50 oil filters....like what!? Cheap tatt will screw engines.
Great video. No problem with the oil choice. Do yourself a huge favor, get yourself a quality oil filter such as Wix, Hastings or Baldwin. I buy them in bulk from Rock Auto. Your oil filter is JUST as important as your Oil. As you can tell I am NOT a fan of FRAM.
I buy whatever oil and filter are on sale, regular, not synthetic. I change it every 6,000 miles. All 3 of my cars have well over 400K miles. Also, I never ever changed the transmission oil, brake fluid, or coolant. Take that new car makers.
@@dogshoe21 Key is in checking the oil level once every month. Many car owners never do. They don't know where the dipstick is. They drive from oil change to oil change, whatever the interval.

Oil extractor? Do you have a link?
One thing that makes life easier when doing vehicle maintenance for me, was having a floor jack and jacks(2-4), and something to chuck your tires.
Yup I always like to lift the car a little bit to get more oil out and get access to the bottom
Same here, even Dealership I have trust issues.
That's why they call them "stealerships"

My old honda civic said 7500 miles for an oil change in the owner's manual. 6k miles with synthetic is good in my book.

I used to use high end oil filters but I never noticed a difference. If rockauto has bulk, I say go for it!

Sweet, I really try to do 6 months or 5k to 6k miles. People that chronically go 10k between oil changes have problems

I've never in my life heard such bad advice.. 400,000 mi on every vehicle you own and no transmission ever serviced ???? 😂 Transmission oil ?

Yw!
