      @Wayne Haile It was a 304

    • @Levi-qb2uf
      @Levi-qb2uf 5 лет назад +2

      @Wayne Haile Those numbers are extremely exaggerated. It's not easy to make 2000hp out of a barra, it's not easy making 2000hp full stop. As for the NA barra bit, c'mon a Ferrari 812 has those numbers (588kw) 800hp plus a extra 2.5l and 6 more cylinders to work with, that's just a example to put into perspective that the ceiling for NA engines is much much lower than forced induction.
      Seriously there's no way it's possible to get those sort of numbers out of a NA without spending a shitload of money and pretty much taking all barra dna out of it or forced induction, and this is coming from a Ford fan.

    Had a straight 6 Ford Barra 2004 October build. Gave it away in 2017. Had around 220k on the clock.
    I abused the thing mercilessly from 100K onwards. No services what so ever. Put in oil when I heard the motor clicking a bit. Never changed the coolant or checked it's level. I only looked at the temp gauge to see if anything was going wrong.
    The thing I paid attention to was the fuel level, that is all.
    I would constantly accelerate from the traffic lights in a firm manner, with the occasional in anger boot to the floor, semi manual gear changes revving the engine around 5 to 6k on the tacho before changing and I suspect that was being actually a bit kind on the motor.
    Not a leak, not a cough, nor a hiccup in all her years of faithful service.
    The temperature was rock solid regardless of the outside temperature and I could sit in bumper to bumper traffic and watch the over priced European cars designed for Northern Eurpoean conditions die by the side of the road in the Australian summer but my engine would be burbling alone quite nicely, even with the AC pumping cold air goodness in my face.
    Can't fault the Barra for reliability when used in it's retail configuration.

    • @Cliffy1616
      @Cliffy1616 4 года назад +2

      Chabobox yup. Even the stupidly priced GTSR-W1 only makes 470kw. But considering today the GTSR-W1 is a $200-250k car and the F6 can be picked up for $30-50k it’s not really a fair comparison. Even then you drop a fraction of that massive price disparity into the F6 and the GTSR won’t touch the F6 in the 1/4mile.

    • @Cliffy1616
      @Cliffy1616 3 года назад

      been there done that
      yeah I pretty much agree, I was just pointing out the silliness in comparing stock for stock a car that’s 5X the price of the other. Like an F6 vs old mates made up KW GTS. The closest GTS to the power figure he was claiming is like easily 5X that of an F6 so just isn’t a fair comparison.
      But yeah as much as I love my fords the LS are definitely the better option for bigger power than the Barra.

  • @LA_MotorWorks
    @LA_MotorWorks 9 лет назад +18

    Stock standard the FG F6s put out approx 250-260rwkw depending on dyno, condition of the engine and other variables. They are a great engine, reliable, reasonably efficient for the power they put out and easy to mod. Tune only they put out 300rwkw ;)

    • @Chabobox1

      I don't think it's pure Holden bias, I think they're just trying to make the show better by making it closer, for example in the drag race you can see the F6 overtook the Clubsport through the window of the Clubsport and this happened multiple times but everytime they got both of the vehicles in one shot the F6 was behind.

    I find it funny that the Holden only puts out 317 kw, and the Falcon is rated at 310. Which is BS, because my mate chucked his factory F6 on a dyno, and it put out 300rwkw. They had to use the 6 cylinder falcon because the Holden couldn't keep up with the v8 ;) Ford FTW!!!

      They actually would of used the f6 because it is a very powerful i6 that could match the power of a 6.2 litre ford v8s are rubbish compared to holden ive even heard ford fans say that themselves. That saying holden v6s are a discrace an im a holden fan

    His 'instant grunt' argument is relatively void. Maybe from idle at the lights yeah.
    Real world - mid gear acceleration and the F6 will walk away from the R8 just as it wound it in over the 400m. It's only off boost at low rpm, not mid gear where you would put use to the power in spirited driving.
    Hence why the original XR6T was so good. On paper 0-100 it was only a smidge quicker than an SS, but in real world tests it would put multiple car lengths on the SS coming out of corners etc.

    @tkotomy Incorrect, the Ford has a turbocharged in-line 6 cylinder engine. This means although it has less power up front, it will stack on eventually. So if a V8 went up against a V8 it would be a fairer race then this and it would be exciting to see the results of.

    The boss 290 v8s are terrible, however the 260s aren't too bad, because they're easy to supercharge, what with the lower compression ratio and all. That said the Holden v8s are nice, I would never own the v6s, but I almost bought the ss

    @EweTubee It's a big four liter six with a turbo, there are plenty of far smaller turbocharged cars that are as quick or quicker than either the FPV or HSV that being said they are a lot lighter. I'd take the F6 over the HSV :)

    @ Australianracingfan I'm 20 y.o and have and drive a new FG F6. I have my open license and drive the car every single day of the week. Back to the video, My stock standard FG F6 smoked the latest GTS's with aftermarket cams exhaust tune and cold air intake. I have proof of times and it was at willowbank 2 weeks ago. Best time I ran was a 12.9 it's a manual. Wheels mag does not do the FG F6 any justice at all!

    Both companies became active in Australia in 1908, difference is that Ford were introduced as a Canadian/American subsidiary in 1908 where as Holden was started up in Australia in 1908 as an Australian company, which later became owned by GMC - in 1931. It sounds like Holden's more Australian. Plus the Ford Falcon was originally a US Design which we adapted.

    good to see two of the best family cars in australia being used properly. i am and always will be a holden fan so its sad for me that the ford is slightly quicker over the quarter even though it lacks the v8's instant punch. as for the smoke out of the clubsport i think maybe all of those burnouts might have bent a pushrod with the constant high revs the ford will never have the intoxicating roar of the chev v8 though and the commy looks ten times better. both awesome cars and it is just a mat

    I agree. Im an american, born and raised in the Detroit area. but Holden has set a standard that in my opinion, that makes the Chevy name look like a kid brother. Its next to impossible to find a decent Holden over here, with out spending a fortune. It seems few americans know the name, which is a damn shame. The name Holden just spits badass. anybody asks, what classic muscle car would I have? I say a 72-73 Holden HQ Monaro. and the answer is usually huh? o well, a few americans know!

  • @AussieBloke108

    @ohhdayyum +1, a lot of Holden fan boys don't realize there is a torque restriction, fuel cut restriction and many other restrictions on the car that are given from factory and are simply removed for about $700 without a dyno tune, $1500 with a dyno tune, dyno tune both those cars, and the Holden would eat dust.
    Turbo lag is also fixable with aftermarket gear too, 20k saved buying a Ford over Holden, easily fixes Fords hold backs.

    i find it funny how when they compair the engines of the two cars they say how the clubbys motor is 'pure aussie muscle' when infact its a completely american motor made by chev? whilst the ford motor is completely australian designed, owned, and built. when it comes to true australiana i believe the ford should be re-considered

  • @SkysurvCoNz
    @SkysurvCoNz 13 лет назад

    @Xerexize Your right, the F6 would be a car length ahead at half track. The knob needs to understand how to drive a turbo vehicle. If they prefer that instant power they should maybe get a donkey and cart, and just jab it with a hot poker.

    OK. Let's settle this.
    I'm a Holden fan. I know that the Holden V8's are restricted to a certain speed (for obvious reasons) but the restricted engine still produces a lot more power than the F6. However, the F6 is a much lighter car and is generally faster than the Clubsport.

    How come in the drag race in all the in-car footage the F6 is rapidly gaining and about to overtake the HSV, yet from the outside cameras, they are the same? Are they trying to make it look a lot closer because they don't want to show how much quicker the turbo 6 cylinder is than the traditional V8?

  • @kuzza6994

  • @Konformation07

    @jcadlols True but the problem with turbocharged cars is the lag. I don't know about the Barra Six Turbo and how long or short the lag is. However, that is a general rule about turbocharged cars.

  • @MeMrJust
    @MeMrJust 13 лет назад

    It's true, if you want instant power, v8 is what you want. Must say tho, was quite surprised it was close and intact HSV almost had it all the way. In a real world example HSV will win. At the lights on a drag race, no one goes until 200 km/h plus. So Holden is what you want, if speed is what you need.

    The Monaro/Commodore is only built in Oz, we Brits import it from Holden, Pontiac likewise until they were killed off. Ford has never been a Ferrari shareholder - in fact it was the aborted Ferrari takeover which led Ford to create the GT40 in revenge. Ferrari is part of Fiat, which also owns Maserati, Lancia, Alfa Romeo

    @TheRguru1 wrong on both points, both vehicles are made in Australia the Ford 6 is a totally Australian design the US does not use this engine in any vehicle they use a V6 like the one in the ford Explorer and ford Australia almost replaced the straight 6 with this V6 were it not for the consumer backlash against this engine, the Vauxhall you speak of is a re badged Holden the engine is US sourced but the supercharger development by walkinshaw racing is Uniquely Australian

  • @Konformation07
