I wish to see Australia having it’s own autobahn
driver training and attitude isnt good enough unfortunately. they already struggle with 110
Apparently there was a highway or something like that with no speed limit in the NT

That would be nice but I can't see that happening anytime soon lol.😅

I'm a Holden guy too, and I prefer the XY.. each to their own hey
just remember . the GTHO had 4 gears , skinny crap tyres , no aero and you needed a huge set of balls to do over 100mph . but those cleveland v8's sounded like satan waking up in the morning after a big night on the grog only to find out he had no coffee or smokes .
👍👍👍👍👍👍🤣🤣🤣
So fucking true!!!
Even tho im a holden guy... thats pretty good.. lucky there was no skippy, emu or camels came out onto the road
Skippy at dawn and dusk mostly. Rarely seen in the middle of the day out here. Camels and cattle you can see for miles. You would have to be an idiot to hit one in daylight. How do I know? I live in Alice.

Although 297 is not 300 that is really impressive and im reading all these comments saying " a hsv could have done that easy" well it hasn't been proven yet so nobody can say its going to do it because there is no proof yet. In my personal opinion ford vs holden nothing more Australian than that and the car produce near the same hp and about the same speed. Im a ford man but i respect both makes and its sad to see the Aussie icons go 😔
+cmealing1 On a 35 degree day with a headwind? 297 sustained is very good Aerodynamics come into play.
If you've been anywhere near 240kmph its starts getting very um...require
your concerntration as if you hit something here...there was some caution in his driving. This is a stock car not with the boost wound up even more...a intercooler would have made it go well past 210mph. Somebody may have done it overseas.
Would be happy on a autobahn. I think a few were sold there. If a completely unaerodynamic much heavier Bentley can hit 206mph this car is underrated.
Considering the stock car is speed limited to 250kmph and still running the standard tailshaft- their is allot of room for improvement. Hopefully the FG-X
XR8 will get its chance to beat it.... im sure some HSV can do that to. But we
all cannot get our triple ton specials and go up to see how fast they go...and have all the telemetry to record it too.
cmealing1 they did a speed run hsv maloo got the record for fastest Ute and it only broke 270

Speed limits are there for a reason !!! So the states can collect revenue from ( SPEEDING).
Exactly, if the speed limits are so important they would just build all cars to go no more than 110ks an hour
Half a billion dollars a year for each of the Eastern states.. And they sure as hell aren't spending it on road safety initiatives.
It's one of the most successful scams ever run. Put the fines up, but make sure they don't use up all their points, so you can get repeat business. Reduce the tolerance from 10% to 2% so you can catch people doing 63 in a 60 zone. Then put a bunch of hidden cameras around so people don't even know they got a ticket until it shows up in the mail. And anytime anyone says anything about it, you play the safety card. Think of the children!!i! And all the while our shitty roads and death tolls remain about the same.
After I have a few beers I can get my 200 series up to 225 kph along the Old Geelong Road, bugger the laws man there for fools.
In case high speed is necessary, like if y don’t have a phone and can’t call the ambo and you/your kid gets bitten by venomous snake
Also it’s the car manufacturers who build the cars like that
The ba xr6 turbo slightly modified to 340 kw achieved 307kmh back in 2004 😂

Haha, that's crazy
'The roads aren't really designed for 300kph speeds'
Autobahn: Hold my beer...

😂😂😂
Blimey, I was unnerved doing 204 km/h in my XR-6; difficult to imagine what 297 on a public road looks like. Having lived in Central Oz for about 12 years I take my hat off to JB for exposing himself to the possibility of a collision with a wild animal or wandering livestock.
The fear is real. I did about 230kmh on my VFR800 up there and that was mad enough. I did that in the middle of the day, late afternoon would be bloody suicide with the animals out.
297 is impressive. With a bit more attention to the aero of the car 300 would be achieved. A friend had a soarer v8 on NT roads and he backed off when the car got "twitchy" at 230. Glad someone like bowe was at the wheel this time.
Had my bmw e39 530i m sport at 245 and it started getting a bit bouncy with the soft suspension. Be surprised how many cars can reach 250 these days.
Every time I think of selling my 2014 xr6 Turbo I watch video like this and decide to keep. I miss Aussie built Falcons and Commodores 🇦🇺

I miss it especially for comfort, the mustang is faster and sounds better.
My first car was a 1990 ford laser that made funny noises and rattled once you start getting over 105 kph. Cant help but wonder if I had that open road how fast it could have gone before the wheels fell off.

These HSV fan boys are all the same. Until a HSV GTS is recorded beating that top speed officially shut the fuck up!!!!!!.Speculation is just bullshit,it should, it could is all crap until it actually does it then I will happily acknowledge it.Just try and appreciate the fact that an Aussie built car can achieve this and enjoy it.
***** Your right mate both makes have their faults. I am a Ford man and i'm not bagging the GTS its just no official top speed has been recorded, til then the GT-F is quicker. We all should be proud of what this country can produce from both Ford and GMH as they wont be around for much longer.
Your 100% right good to hear from someone level headed. Sadly we are all witnessing the end of an era in this country which a lot of people don't seem to comprehend so yeah just sit back and enjoy the ride.
clubbin 09 I agree with the comment on the HSV engines being fully imported. I own a 2013 GT 335 and that engine is hand built here with the engine builders stamp on it.The Falcon has way more Australian content than a Commodore but most people perceive otherwise unfortunately. My best mate owns VF HSV R8 which is a good car in all respects also but my original point was until an official top speed run in a GTS is done the GT-F is king. If the GTS can OFFICIALY better that speed I will happily acknowledge it.
Makes you wonder though what we will discussing in a few years time when they are both gone????
***** It would be a lot closer if both were auto's I reckon.Like I said im not bagging the GTS but it just seems that anything that has a HSV badge automatically makes it better than anything else. And yes the current falcon interior is not its strongest point that's why i'm keeping my 2013 model. as its basically the same.
clubbin 09 Yeah mate shame Ford never marketed the Falcon in that way its a pity.Instead most people believe in that football , meat pies and Holden cars crap unfortunately.
I reckon a Sprint 6 would beat the GT-F and the XR8 Sprint if ud remove the limiter. Something about the Barra that’s just a tiny bit better then the Miami.

it would have been even cooler if the GT-F had done a straight up drag against the XY GT-HO, father vs son so to speak
I'm sure the reason the GT-HO couldn't do the same as the FPV has nothing to do with power. At anything above 200, aerodynamics play an enormous roll, and the '71 HO is as aerodynamic as a brick wall on wheels. Plus, a 4 speed transmission is it's own limiter unless you have a tall highway diff gear, but even then...

I'm confused, the XR6 Turbo could do 300+ KPH after removing the limiter. Am I wrong?
LOL No. No it couldnt. I am a race engineer and have actually looked after one of these Turbo Falcons, that had the limiter removed as well as numerous other tweaks to prepare it for circuit racing competition. And i can tell you that at Bathurst in 2014 or 2015, its fastest trap speed all week was 243km/h. This was a 310kw FPV by the way not a basic 245KW XR6.
I'd think it would do it. I've got a fg gs 2009 boss 302. it speed cuts at 248, pretty well all stock, exhaust, growler intake, n ultralow suspension. it still had more in it but speed cut

There used to be no limit on the Stuart until the 70s (I think) when a Lamborghini slid off the road at 200kph and killed the driver and a pedestrian during a gumball rally. Now it’s limited to 130.
Would love to see them try this again with the new XR8 Sprint.

Yes I know, but they could disable that for the test. Like they did with this one.

I wish they could that. It would be interesting! without the limiter of course! Or even a comparison between the FPV GTF and Ford Falcon FGX XR8 SPRINT which one would be the best?!
I’m pretty sure everyone who are rev heads. Have tested their car out to the maximum speed as I have and every young bloke has. You didn’t need John bowl
I met John Bowe when I lived there in 1978. He was one of the best then. He's one of the greats now.
in the late 80s, early 90s the N.T had no open road speed limits. We often did Katherine to Darwin (320km) in 2 hours, quite safely. The only worry was the ocasional steer that may wander onto the road and the odd road train doing "only" 120kmh
In 1999 a couple of workmates and I drove a Toyota Landcruiser Troopy to Darwin and back from Mt. Isa. When we weren't going through townships we sat on a dollar seventy no problem on the straight bits of the Barkly Highway from Tablelands to Waramungu, and then same speeds north along the Stuart Highway to Darwin.
I have never been to that area, though I have been told If I did, expect to see camels.
The NT has never had " no open road speed limits", especially late 80's early 90's. If so I would never have been booked for speeding, which I was. Nice story, full of shit though.
That area did have no speed limit until a fatal crash during a Gumball Rally involving a Lamborghini decades ago.
Tell that to the victorian government... Nothing like doing 80 in a well lit, well paved 4 lane highway with a solid barrier between both directions and exterior walls. Unbelievable.
I have a 1999 AU Series I ex-police unmarked pursuit sedan, no engine limiter, no rev limiter (included by the factory for police use), and about 280,000K on it, it is a 302 and it goes to 240 km/h which is as far as the speedo goes up to. It's off the road now getting restored and a new rocket motor up front, be good to see what she does after breaking it in and doing some runs and dyno pulls/tuning.
The speedo is doing 240. The car isnt.
@@borismcfinnigan3430Police calibrate the speedos
pity they didn't see a genuine 300km/hr, surely the driver could have pulled another 3km/hr. Still a great effort from a brilliant car.
+Orion a cold still winters night would be much faster than '35 degrees and windy'. Its a aerodynamic game
after 240 after the wind starts pulling your car around....it steady at that speed which is good for
those with inter coolers.... unoficial GTHOs. The overboost will not be running at 100% to protect
the motor at high temps thus its not as angry as it could be... it would have done 205+ with no headwind
im sure. Not to say others have done it already- unoficially. Considering how non aerodynamic the boxy
bentley front is getting to 206mph the nose of the Falcon is much more lower... as is based on the V8
supercar shape...
thats is one tuff fast fpv 300 kph well done ford what a shame there will be no more where would the falcon been in ten years time

Maybe the two XC Cobras that passed us on the Barkly Hwy up near Mt. Isa in the late seventies were Ford test cars heading for the NT border. Hmm, have always wondered about those two white hardtops with the big blue stipes. They were a sight to behold while driving to Mt.Isa in a bog stock XB station wagon with no air-con. :)

I hit an emu at 160 km/h many years ago, lucky man at 300 km/h
Sad that stock these Engines are so damn underpowered. Chuck a K&N Filter, bigger Cat-back system & tune and you could get way past 300km/h and 100WHP gain
Joys of meeting emission standards.
That car is over 400kw. If that's underpowered in your eyes then I'd love to see the top fuel dragster that you daily drive mate
An intercooler on the GT would have seen 300. I wonder if they let it cool out before the run as if they were mucking around before hand getting ready it would of had heat soak at those ambient temps. I reckon it can be done without an intercooler in the right conditions.
Buddy It’s got air hitting it at 297kmh it’s not heat soaked
@@nocomment5847 do you own one?.. I do. In the NT heat, simply prepping doing a few runs and getting ready it would have heat soak. Once it’s got it no amount of speed really makes a difference at high ambient temps. A short burst at 200kph + would have zero effect on AIT’s. I’ve watched mine driving it in many conditions to form this opinion.
Speeds like that is insane ! That said I'm sure that car could hit 300km if the conditions were a bit better. I would never do anything like lol.

There you go build no 017/ 500 ,so if anyone has that car, like to see the dyno figures to prove it is totally stock car other than the rev limiter removed, or stopped so that engine will rev higer say 7,000 RPM max which is really about 1,000 RPM more than stock ?

What would happen if he hit a kangaroo at that speed? Kangaroo, Car and Driver would get fucked up right?
The car and the roo would most likely tear apart, modern cars are designed to crumple the body, but keep the cabin intact. I reckon the driver would survive the initial impact pretty easily (not if the roo came through the windscreen obviously) however the kicker is what the car and driver do after that impact.
the roo would be smashed to smithereenes but the car would go into an incontrolled spin...
not good news for any party trucks would have it easier and just sustain small chip on the bar

Nice work. I did the same stretch on my Honda VFR800 in 2015 and hit about 230. And it's only an 800CC bike and had cases and a top box on it at the time (got the video on my channel). But I'd love to see what a car going past at 300 would look like. I think they've put a limit on that highway now though so sadly this sort of stuff will never happen again.
It will….. just not legally. 😉
No limiter on my 2013 GT500. I've had mine to 320 km/h +/- on the autobahn on a 2-3 occasions. There's more there but I think about a blown tire etc! I proved it could and that's good enough for me. I normally keep her at between 160 and 220 km/h when I can and she's a happy camper. I still get uneasy when I pass the police.

Not really interested if could reach 300. Trying to understand a car from the 70s reaches 227. Only to be able to achieve an extra 70 km per hour over 40 years, not that impressive. I was expecting it to smash 300. Given the fact the phase 3 is raw. Nothing special with the engine. I mean it’s all mechanical. And the development of new materials and components of the new car, just really gave me the lacklustre sensation that the engineers and development team really missed the mark. way off, by a long shot.
They were also wrong saying the Phase 3 was only good for 227...was closer to 240,with the rev limiter...somewhat higher with it disconnected!!!
70kph over 40 yrs, exactly what I was thinking.

4:56 I had my modified 351 Cleveland up to 250 kph and I had loads more pedal but it was too scary , humps and bumps in the road and adjoining side roads. 250 kph is fast as fuck,
You had the road closed etc
Should have ran the XY also
Barra twin turbo do faster
Modern Australian cars built before 2017 are that good, then they went to shit!
Should do this in the GTSR W1
This chap is talking through his hat. Just to lie about the xy falcon. My XB 302 Cleveland with a Borg Warner 4 speed and a 2:77 to 1 diff was clocked at 236 kph by Vic police ( don't know who was driving because it was stolen).
The XY is basically the same car with same suspension, steering but with a 351 Cleveland a top loader g/box and a limited slip diff with low gearing obviously? Give me that XY and some higher gearing, say 2:60 to 1 and I could see it doing 300 kph easy. So what about that mate? I rebuilt the 302 so it had 40 thou oversized pistons, 10 thou shaved off the cylinder heads and a 350 holly carbi, the rest was stock standard. Exhaust manifolds and inlet manifold was standard. And I drove it up Brown Mountain in top gear and never changed back a gear once with the 2:77 to 1 diff. The falcon their driving I think has twin over head cams a CFM intake much bigger then a 350 CFM Holly carbi a computer and multipoint injection and better aerodynamics and from what I could tell it sounded like it needed another gear.
Should've put a barra Turbo in the mix , make it interesting !
Looks like Bowe is in 5th gear which means that 5.0 is spinning at nearly 6500rpm and well beyond peak power.
Shifting to 6th and with enough road, we would most likely have seen 300kph !
aircon was probably on too
351
Nah.. too much wind resistants..with a tailwind yeah maybe
Are you smoking dog shit?
John Bowe is a very good race car driver. I reckon whatever he did was to get the best out of it.
Also my opinion is the the ratio change from 5th to 6th would have been too much, ie engine might have produced a bit more power but the ratio change means less will be transmitted to the wheels
5.19 what would a modified 351 cleveland do? my one i got up to 250 kph yet had loads more accelerator left, 250 kph on the road i was on was too scary to go any faster it wasnt a long strait road it had ups and downs and bumps and roads joining onto it
That car would crack 300 on a real test strip.
Apparently the HSVs are unstable at high speed, given their shape that doesn't seem too far fetched.
If not why hasn't a top speed run been done?
Travis Clifford very got a mate that’s a cop he says the commodores are unstable on high speeds
But they still make HSV. Manufactures don't stop building good cars.
@@sv4851 HSV build Camaros, Colorados and Silverados now. The old Commodore is gone and no-one wants the new one, especially HSV.
For a start HSV does NOT build " Camaros, Colorados and Silverados now." GM USA does, all HSV is doing is converting them to RHD. But the fact still remains that any car manufacture does not stop building cars that the public want and the Falcon stopped simply because it was a pile of shit and the Commodore is only half a point better. Aussie design and manufacturing went along fine with other world makers until around the early to middle 80's when the rest of the world took off in regards to build quality and design but Aussie just continued to build buckets of poo. Take the cost of what was then a new Falcon or Commodore and look at the Euro, Japanese and USA cars and you will get twice the car for the same money. How would I know? A GM dealer for over 20 years.
@@sv4851 Well they did. When Ford axed the V8 Falcon people assumed it was because the market for high powered V8s was dead. Ford introduced the Mustang as a niche car, expecting to sell 1000 a year. They ended up selling more than that in a month and ten times more than that in a year. Even staunch Holden people ordered the Mustang because the "cheap" V8 market was empty after the Commodore bowed out.
By your own admission HSV don't "build" anything, at this point they're a glorified importer. The Camaro is set to have a retail price of nearly $100,000 for what is essentially a right-hand drive SS with pretty much even or lower specs than the current Mustang GT. Yet, orders are still funneling in for them. The newer, smaller Commodore (which is what the public wanted, apparently) has been a sales bomb, as has the new Equinox SUV. Of the 990 Commodores sold in March, 474 of them were VFIIs, rather than the ZB.
3:53 music to my ears. Fordever.
Can't believe the authorities put any time or effort into helping you with what is, after all, a bit of a pissant stunt. 'The road's not designed for 300 km/h, the car's not designed for 300 km/h, but fuck it, we're going to try (and fail) anyway'. If you want to see something actually impressive, search YT for Çhiron 300 mph'' - yeah, that's MILES NOT km/h.
Pity Falcon was dropped in Lu of Fusion. Falcon is by far a better car.
chuck a cheeky tune on and it would have shat on 300
At 300 in Melbourne they won't even chase you wait till 3:00am start at Tullamarine build up the courage focus and plant it get off at springvale Rd and disappear into VRC and pray they don't have a chopper after you or you screwed...real talk.
Wow love it. I drove that highway open speed and managed to get Toyota cruiser to 170 km/h lol. Normaly travelled at about 130 km/h.
And yet this amazing feat will never come close to compensating owners for Ford's shitty build quality since 2002. Interestingly, the shit build BA won Wheels car of the year. No surprise that I don't buy the Wheels mag or take any notice of the reviews.
Need to make another mad max film ,
I did 270 on my Honda VTRSP2 with helmet jeans and a spray jacket on.
There was plenty more in it
It's crazy watching now that I own a Volvo S80 T6 se and it will do 270kmp any day. I don't do it because that's just fucking stupidity but there is enough shit on RUclips to see it could do it and they do.
0:57 thought those were L plates for a second
I live in Alice. My Kawasaki ZX10R can do that speed in 1/2 the time that car took to do it. Gay as fuck. Back when we had open speed limits I did Tennant Creek to Alice (500km) in 2 hours 10 min on my Kawasaki ZX6R. That included 2 fuel stops where I also had to go in and pay for the fuel. I was never under 200kph.
how hard was it to shoehorn the 5l supercharged Miami V8 into your ZX10R ? many mods ? oh that’s right it’s a motorbike !
Really? Windy weather, hotter than conditions, track surface;what, for an extra 3kph? Poor excuse on a flimsy pretext that's called a reason? Righty'o then.....
To see the speedo in the cab sit at 242 for a second hits me in the feelings, i hit that number and decided that is a good enough number
It was in my f6 ute, also all happened in mexico
Thanks for posting vid mate awesome.
R.I.P.,BIGBANGER V8 Aussies,public wants shitty cross over?suvs,younger people know F all about cars🇳🇿🇳🇿😎🍺🚘
297 kph out of a falcon is hugely impressive he says, yup sure is , OR you can buy a Ferrari for $500'000 and do 295 kph, lol or you can buy a Lamborghini for $700'000 and and do 325kph, I got 250 kph. Out of my Fairmont with a modified 351 Cleveland. Could probably expect 270 kph out of it because I had more pedal left. But I bought the 351 for $4'600 and the Fairmont for $700 , tell you what, it sound much better than the FPV falcon or any Ferrari or Lamborghini
Why didnt you guys do it in better conditions. What was the rush. Seems pointless to do a run to achieve 300 kmh then go in those conditions of course you weren't going to get there. Sailing into the wind in that heat was just setting your selves up.
You would have thought while they had the old XY up there they would have at least taken some side of the road shots of it doing over a Ton......waste of time taking all that way for one quick snap shot ..
It is now 2022 and fastest you can go on the Stuart Highway is 130 km/h don't know why they cant put up to 150 km/hat least
Oh give me a break... Why do u need John bowe to drive that car... in a straight line.?
Im sure that any half decent hoon worth his salt would do the same job.
The GTS may have a 6.2 sc engine over the GTF and its 5.0 sc engine.......but as is widely known....the GTF puts a fair chunk more power to the road over the GTS. At those speeds.....I doubt it having less would get it even close to the GTF top speed.
Knew a guy who had a FTP 400Kw said its only 400Kw between shifts . . but still at the time i had a 6.0 thunder and i did not come close sweet cars they are.
The gts would do 300 no problem at all it has a lot more torque 740nm compared to the fords 650 in overboost and only 570 without overboost also the hsv has better suspension 👍
I guess the helmet is being worn to keep his head in one piece, because fuck knows what would be left of the car if he blew a tyre in a stock shell doin 300k!
I find it hard to believe that in 40 years they can only go 75kmh faster
Yes, but the hover conversion is super smooth.
;)
Cool day no wind and i think they would have cracked it well done
Funny thing is a stock series 1 fg turbo with no limiter can do 300.
I would love to see the ultimate shitbox that is a Ford AU Falcon on the Nuremberg ring
LOL the limiter is set at 255 km's because that's so practical to begin with, I mean whats the point of it if it's set that high anyway?
I have to say though 225 km's from the original GTHO is pretty damned impressive
I'd definitely choose the XY any day. Regards
sanook aus you like low power, poor handling, skinny tyres and low grip, dodgy brakes, slip sliing seats, noisy, rough ride etc.. ?
@@nordic5490 You'll never beat the tough old school looks and character of the XY. Old cars have so much more character then new models
But i'd take both :)
@@nordic5490 low power and skinny tires are false, both can be changed.. the rest is character and that's what makes old cars such good fun ;)
New technology, new aero, still not as good. Old School Cool.
Old school worth more.
Should of used a zf 6 speed auto GTF as it has better gearing and probably would of reached 300!
nice one smart ass, ZF auto cars have much better gearing and overdrive compared to manual ones which doesn't take a scientist to work out, that it would help when trying to reach higher speeds.
+clubbin 09 the ZF 6-Speed Automatic is the transmission that all Auto GT-F have... The manual GT-F have Tremec gearboxes. Nothing to do with Ford Vs. Holden, simply Manual GT-F vs Auto GT-F haha.
+clubbin 09 typical Holden ;)
gtlegend007 cicatriz I agree mate. That's what I had in mine. I done Perth to Karratha in 11 hours there and 11.5 back sitting on 295 kms/ph it wouldn't go any faster. We stopped at Geraldton got maccas for breakfast and at Nanutarra to refuel with BP ultimate out of 3 20 litre jerry cans. The cruise control still worked too but at 290 though. That was back in 2007 in a FPV Super Pursuit octane orange with all the fruit. It was brand new and stock with 2500kms on the clock. Number 51. I bought it from Ford in Morley. I still have the books for it and all and spare keys. I never got the free stuff that came with it where you could pick one out of 3 items. I had my radar detector up and it saved my licence a few times. The car cost me $64,500. It was like the car was train tracks. I was pissed off it didn't go any faster then that after spending that amount of money. I sat on that speed for about 15-30 minutes at a time each time the missus fell asleep. I was sitting on 200 most of the way and passing cars and trucks like they were standing still. You'd slow down to 110 and it felt like you could get out and run that fast hahaha.
My clubsport r8 would pass 300 easily on that road
