Back in the day it was documented how they first sold fully imported Vivas here, then rebadged them as Toranas.
Then they got the idea to drop the 6 cylinder engines in them for racing, but the engine bay was too small.... .so they simply stretched the front of the Vivas / Toranas.
All these imported cars by Holden and Ford were improved for Australian conditions.... brakes and suspension were essential for all US imports, often steering as well, and chassis strength.
Of course, being a GMH subsiduary, the stretched Vivas were unlikely to have been re designed for the weight and power of the bigger engine.
The V8 LH and LX Toranas were never structually designed for the weight and power of the V8's.
That is GM policy ......always use the cheaper metal and never waste money on structural improvements. lol
Im not sure if Chrysler improved the Valiants though......superior engines, gear boxes and diffs, but they always drove like a freeway car and a yank tank under brakes and a barge in the corners.

What a gorgeous colour that last one was. Forget the livery, just the base. Kinda purple / bronzey / reddish kinda mix. I'm sure I'm wrong. Probably a bakers dozen combination. But wow, I love to know what it's called and the code. Anyone know? I'll spend hours googling if I have too. But I'm old, cranky & not great at that kinda thing.
