    Yes BUT for the people in their own mind and not the manga itself. Great topic bro! We should break some of these down on my stream some time or something. Great talking points!

      Yes! To both, I was going to talk about that specific thing in this video but the more I thought about it I think that topic is big enough for its own video.
      The going on stream sounds fun also terrifying because it’s live 😂 but we might have to test it out, my internet is not the fastest and I know there was some freezing issues in the past, but let’s talk more about it and try to make it happen

    I don't think it's hype that ruins a manga; it's people having expectations that are too high. Take Jujutsu Kaisen as an example fans had immense expectations, but when the author didn't meet them, it led to disappointment and frustration. So I think if people lower their expectations just a little bit they can enjoy the series how the author wanted it to be enjoyed.

    • @DanielPeppers
      @DanielPeppers  4 месяца назад +1

      I can definitely see that point, and JJK and everything going on with the ending right now was definitely on my mind but having not read the ending yet, I didn’t want to talk about it in this video. But I think expectations can ruin an experience of a manga, because who’s to say what our expectations are is even the story the creator wanted to write

    • @aritrasaha441

      Its not hype that ruined jjk ending for people.
      Its gege's inability to put a satisfying end to anything in the story other than the 6 characters of choso nanami yuji sukuna gojo toji. 2 of which are not even relevanf to the story in the long run.
      Most character arcs are unsatisfactory , most plot points dont lead to anywhere and there are abrupt cuts between events and character progression that it make it feel weird. Characters are mostly there to fulfill a purpose and then forgotten. M9st of all the mc's domain name is never revealed. People have ENOUGH reason to be unsatisfied even without expecting basic shonen tropes out of the story. The story is essentially different.
      If u had to mention a manga endinf that does matches what u r describing its mha ending. Yes tr author retconned one of the biggest plot points but its done in a positive light and its thematically appropriate. But people wanted deku to be like gold roger from one piece aka have wealth fame power love.. everything the world had to offer and be the strongest.😂

      At this point i just dont understand why some anime become so popular. Maybe i'm just old, but i really dont understand whats so cool and interesting about my hero academia, demon slayer and jjk. i wouldnt rate these anime more than 6 - 7.5/10.

      It does bring up a good argument if fans are just waaaaaay too entitled and have ridiculous expectations. On one hand though I do think leak culture is also ruining the enjoyment of manga readers because false leaks ran rampant and build up many false expectations for JJK.

      @@aritrasaha441 Thanks for bringing up MHA. I really enjoyed the ending even though I had my issues here and there. And yeah I hated that people were just mad that Deku lost his powers and didn’t become like Naruto in the end. It’s a refreshing and different ending and I’m glad Horikoshi stuck with it.

    You never know when the hype for something is real. I think that most people like to be excited about something together! And talk about this thing that they are excited for... that feeling is amazing! But sometimes that thing everyone is excited for, just isn't for you. But you never know until you try. I try to test out a few volumes first and then jump in but it's hard not to get caught up in it all. Another excellent video my friend!

    Hype can get me through the first volume or two of a manga, but if they don’t have anything solid going after that I’ll forget them. Too much stuff to read, too little time.
    Ironically, I collected and read the entirety of the Demon Slayer run. It was “okay” through most of it. It felt like the mangaka was setting up something, then bailed on that idea halfway through and started steering pretty directly towards the series conclusion. I feel like a lot of mangaka are starting to see the long term health effects of having huge series and tight deadlines. Look at the Hunter x Hunter creator as just one example. It’s *probably* more effective to do shorter series that get picked up into an anime and if the anime takes off it can be merchandised from there.
    Sorry, didn’t think this comment would go for so long. 😅
    LOVE your videos!

    Part of me sometimes feels that if a manga, LN or webcomic is happening, it should either finish or be at a half-way point before considering an anime adaptation. I think hype comes down to timing at the end of the day. I typically feel like certain series aren't worth collecting (manga wise) because it feels so 1-1 when/after watching the anime, and vice versa, though it depends on what I consumed first as well. Just my random thoughts

    • @DanielPeppers
      @DanielPeppers  4 месяца назад +1

      I definitely have some series where I don’t feel the need to read the manga because I watched the anime first and it nailed exactly what it needed to do and same way I feel about some manga series as well, so I totally understand where you’re coming from

  • @lantztalksmanga
    @lantztalksmanga 4 месяца назад +7

    I do think a series can be overhyped to its own detriment; your use of Morbius is a great example of this. Like, what if that mangaka is brand new and their series gets hyped up by the internet only to flop by volume 2? I imagine that would be very discouraging to the mangaka.

    • @DanielPeppers
      @DanielPeppers  4 месяца назад

      I can’t imagine one of the first things you create takes off in this massive way and the pressure that happens on top of a job that we already know is already high pressure and time crunch like a mangaka

    Hello Daniel! Hope you're doing well. The video topic peaked my interest and I like your take on it. For me hype can be a double edge sword. For example, I'd been hearing about the Jujutsu kaisen and demon slayer anime all over the internet and had this idea in my head that they were going to blow me away.. but I was disappointed and they didn't click with me. Maybe if I'd gone into them without as many expectations it would be another story..do you have any new series to recommend on the shonen jump app? Thanks! 😊

      I appreciate it! Thanks for checking it out, as far as new series, I’ve been enjoying Shinobi Undercover ( It has 3 chapters right now) it’s a story of a Shinobi that has to protect a very accident prone girl, I think the action is pretty good and the comedy can be funny, very interested to see if it leans more comedy or goes heavy action in the future

    Hype is a good way of finding new series, but hype alone doesn't keep me reading a series lol. Frankly a lot of series that get hyped tend not to be for me, so I've learned not to just buy them and to go into reading them as normally as possible if that makes sense. Now this is a completely different issue, but buying boxsets and deluxe omnibuses is something I really struggle not to buy. I've gotten better but the urge to buy them is strong and it's not even like I want to reread the series, I just want to own them.
    Like I had preordered Trigun and Trigun Max just because I read them ages ago, I don't even remember the story that well (except my fav character dying on a couch???) and have no plans to reread it, but by golly I wanted to buy the omnibuses just to own it for some reason. When I finally cancelled my preorders, I felt like I was making a mistake, what mistake I don't know, but I had to ignore that feeling. When I saw the Delicious in Dungeon boxset my first instinct was to buy it despite already owning the eMangas and the boxset not offering anything I especially wanted. Luckily, I just didn't like the boxset, so I cancelled my preorder pretty quickly. Then there's Vinland Saga, I preordered the deluxe eds and have them still shrink wrapped in my room collecting dust. The craziest part is I actually prefer the original vols over the deluxe eds lol. I finally cancelled my preorder for vol 6, but by golly the idea of cancelling vol 5 seems too wasteful for some reason like I've convinced myself I need it and once I have it, I'm done.
    Anyway, this experience has led me to implement a new strategy. Unless I plan to reread the series, I won't buy it. I'm not sure how successful I'll be at this, I've already bought the Solo Leveling Novel Omnibus, a series I read the first vol of and liked only to quickly drop afterwards and have no plans to cancel that preorder. In my defense I own the Spice & Wolf and A Certain Magical Index novel omnibuses and really like them even if the txt is too tedious to read. What I'm really excited for is the Ubel Blatt deluxe ed. This is another series I never finished but I still have fond memories of it, so I plan to actually read it, instead of just collecting it, and hopefully this is a good step towards buying omnibuses/boxsets of series I will reread rather than just to own the item for reasons I can't figure out (ignore Solo Leveling lol). I want to say it's to support the authors, and a part of it is definitely that, but that's not the biggest reason. And sadly, I don't make enough money to keep just buy buy buying and throwing these all in a corner somewhere anymore.

    At this point, what worries me the most about the future is if a series doesn't get hyped before the series first chapter comes out, it could lead to a manga getting canceled

    Demon slayer got really lucky, it was a fun ride for me. I think the mangaka probably felt a lot of pressure from the hype and ended the series early, it could’ve been longer and explored more on the characters.
    MHA also lost hype midway because shonen fans are more interested in cool, stoic MCs. That explains why they like Gojo more than Itadori. I personally like MCs that are compassionate like Tanjiro, Itadori and Deku.

  • @buggydes
    @buggydes 4 месяца назад +1

    Personally, I've never had a problem of being disappointed by hype. Mainly because of my nature. When a series gets a lot of traction, i just naturally stay clear of it and check it out at a later date or i have already read it and have formed opinions of my own before the whole hype debacle.
    The last time I was swallowed in by "hype" was Solo Levelling. It was fun and I read it all real quick. But to be honest, at the end of the day, it was a power fantasy with not much depth but as I said, fun nonetheless, still worth checking out. Quick mention of Blue Lock since it was in your thumbnail, I did not like that series one bit, the whole premise is just frustratingly stupid and the characters... yikes, I don't remember one character I liked. I recommend Ao Ashi if one is looking for a football manga.
    edit:
    Also want to say Undead Unluck gets really good the further in you go. I am with you. The start to UU was lacklustre to say the least.
    Recently I read Hakumei and Mikochi. Was pleasantly surprised. The writing was brisk, whimsical, and got me chuckling quite a bit. Filled with lovable characters and stellar art. Perfect palette cleanser between heavier stories. I think you'll like it Daniel :)

    ALL The hype that undead unluck get deserve it because it used to get so much hate it was hard being fan because people thought story was gonna weird with power system and everything but it become one most hype manga to read that not as huge as the other so i think series to have some kind of in some way through manga to make big it could be through it could be through story or could be through what ever happens with fans. i think hype ruins a manga when fans ask too much i think in a way or when like people crazy stuff predictions that don't happen or theory but yeah. The series i collect imostly ask my slef a bunch time if i going all the way or couple vol before i buy them so i still have fun with my collection.
