For me, the authors that really meant special to me a lot like Urusawa, Inoue, Fujiko Fujio, Toriyama, Arakawa, Araki, Mizu Sahara. But the one, really struck me the most is Rumiko Takahashi. Many people have claim her as Princess of Manga and she is the one help to created the Romcom genre (although not sure she is the first one who did it or someone else have did before her). Most of the series from her, i bet you guys already have heard of like Urusei Yatsura, Ranma 1/2 or Inuyasha perhaps. My favorites is had to be Ranma 1/2 and Maison Ikkoku. Both are very good series, also recommend as starting point into her stuffs. Have to thanks my big bro, at that time when i having a rough spot in my life, then he recommend alot of her stuffs and since then i hook into her stuffs. Gonna say, her influence does quite alot to many future authors, one of them are Hiromu Arakawa, some Shoujo author and few western creators.

Couldn’t agree more. Currently finishing up Eden Zero it’s has been a blast. I’m also reading Dead Rock it hasn’t gripped me yet, but I have faith that it’ll get better. I don’t understand the hate he gets from people about reusing characters and the power of friendship. I love his references to his previous works I eat it up. Reusing characters he said they are like actors in his works, and the power of friendship is used in any shonen ever. He gets unnecessary hate. Takashi Hashiguchi, purely for Yakitate! Japan. I mean he made bread exciting and hilarious! Rumiko Takahashi, because I've never laughed so hard in my life as I have while reading Ranma 1/2 Yukito Kishiro, but since I haven't finished reading Battle Angel Alita yet, I'm focusing on the fact that the action scenes he draws are so good that I feel like I just watched something in motion. (Obviously I'm not repeating the ones you already mentioned as Naoki Urasawa goes without saying 😂)

Now I say this as a describing a mangaka with both storytelling at artist. There are some mangaka who are good to below average writers but are elite artists, I consider them great illustrators and not necessarily great mangaka. And then there are the mangaka who are geniuses and just hit a title on the first try and never have to do anything else. While they have a lot of fans, it's tough to tell if they are great as a mangaka because we've never seen them do anything else than that one title. For me, one of the "great" mangaka that has the body of work is Rumiko Takahashi. She's made MANY hits and done multiple genres.
You touched on my fav mangaka (Naoki Urasawa) but from your taste, I think perhaps I would recommend someone out of the sphere of anime/manga: Brian K. Vaughn He's an American comic book writer with some fantastic titles under his belt like "Ex Machina" and "Paper Girls" but his magnum opus, "Saga," is just brilliant. Personally, it is up there with the likes of "20th Century Boys," "Berserk," "One Piece," and other manga greats. At only 68 chapters/issues and counting, it is worth the time of every fan of the comic medium :D
You are 100% right! He is one of the only Comic Writers I keep up with, I still read my Deluxe Editions of Y the Last Man every year or so and Saga...Man....Saga is Fantastic!
I don't know if it's been said before but Go Nagai, the creator of Devilman. Go Nagai is such an inspiration as a mangaka because he was a massive pioneer in multiple GENRES of manga back during the early days when manga was slowly gaining popularity in japan. Mechas with Mazinger Z, Magical Girl with Cutie Honey, Ecchi with Harenchi Gakuen, and Horror with Devilman
Works like A Silent Voice are such a breath of fresh air in the current manga scene of the last 20 years. It gives a taste of just how deep comics can go. That's a work that's really worth owning because you can re-read it once a year (or more if you like). The two lead characters are unforgettable despite having no swords or super powers. This is a manga that needed to exist. I'm glad Kodansha was able to stick with Oima all the way through and let the entire work get published from beginning to end despite the work appearing in a weekly shonen mag.
Great video man! I haven't read many of these series but Silent Voice I did and it's also one of my favorite films. I really need to get around to To Your Eternity lol. For me my "blank check" author is Nio Nakatani. She's mostly known for her yuri series Bloom Into You, which is like top 2 of my favorite series. Although she only has 2 serializations and the rest of her works are short one shots, she almost always has some REALLY unique ideas and I'm always down for something that's not like anything else. If you want a taste I think her one shot Farewell To My Alter is her best one, and it's just a 3-4 minute read 😉

My "blank check" mangaka is Taiyou Matsumoto (Sunny, Takemitsuzamurai, Ping Pong, Tokyo These Days). The best character writer and great illustrator (heavily inspired by European comics). Another mangaka I can read anything of is Mitsuru Adachi (Cross Game, Touch, H2). Probably my favorite overall writer, especially when he was at his peak. Also the best visual storyteller. Sadly, very few of his works have been officially translated. I love all the works of Makoto Ojiro from the last decade (Insomniacs After School, Neko no Otera no Chion-san, Fujiyama-san wa Shishunki). Best romance writer by far. Jiro Taniguchi is also excellent (A Journal of My Father, A Distant Neighborhood, Inu wo Kau). Very mature and, like Matsumoto, heavily inspired by European comics. There are a bunch of mangaka that I love that made 1 great work, but the most talented for me is Ikumi Fukuda (Veil). Veil is her first serialized work that she does on her own, and I already consider her to be one of the best. Gorgeus illustrations and panneling, the best dialogue in all of manga by far, and she can even write some good poetry-insanely talented.

Magi, full metal alchemist, hunter hunter, attack on titan. I can put names but people will understand their work more. Their writing skills blank check for me. It has to be good.
Those are some great choices! I haven’t read HxH and only a little bit of Full metal alchemist but I’ve read the other works Yu Yu Hakusho (HxH writer) which is great and Silver Spoon ( FMA writer) is one of my favorites. Definitely have to read those serious soon

My highest recommendation would be Slam Dunk. I don’t like basketball, but yet this is my favorite manga. Great character growth and life lessons.

Some of the only mangakas that get recognition. Many better authors never get recognised because of these overhyped ones
