This is my meteorologist in Mississippi and we absolutely love him. He is a good man and he goes above and beyond his job as a weather forecaster and I wouldn't trade him for anyone else in the world. He had been telling us for 2 days there would be tornadoes and there would be 1 or 2 massive devastating ones that would be life threatening and he said exactly where those would be and 1 of those bad ones would come right through where I live and he was 100% correct. Matt even gets on his own Facebook when he's off and continues to be here for us through all of it. I've seen him be the only one still reporting after all the rest have taken cover at the tv station. Matt deserves any & every award that pertains to being a Chief Meteorologist because he cares about his family and all his viewers. We are BLESSED to have him.

I’m a meteorologist and this is, without a doubt, our worst nightmare. In the face of a disaster like this and feeling so powerless to stop it, it doesn’t matter what religion you are or if you’re religious at all, that sort of prayer transcends religion and culture and goes right to your heart. It’s the most sincere form of prayer and the most important. May this gentleman be blessed many times over for the composure and caring he showed in the face of disaster. EDIT: some of y'all in the replies need to learn to behave yourselves. I'm not even slightly religious myself but I can still damn sure appreciate the compassion of prayer shown in the face of uncontrollable disaster. this isn't about christians vs atheists or any other religion, it's about human empathy.
@@BaronFeydRautha look I’m not a fan of the church or “religion” myself but really what’s the point in your comment?? 1, comments like this is not going to change the minds of people who are religious. & 2, it’s just not the time or the place... Idk if there even is a time or place that would make sense to try to talk someone out of belief in religion, but, if there was, this certainly wouldn’t be it. Also, when you do this bs, you’re acting JUST like the judgmental & hypocritical church going mfs you don’t like... except instead of berating people with threats of going to hell if they don’t believe & acting holier than thou, you’re acting like a know it all & making condescending remarks talking down to people FOR believing... both Christians like them & atheists like you make your respective communities look bad & you’re the reason why people outside of each do not fck with y’all..
He even asked to make sure everyone who was there they were connected to, including his co-workers (I assume), and the family was notified and safe. Behaving like this is prolly a lot more powerful in getting people to go to safety. Give this man a medal of honor!
He is a true Christian. He didn’t even think about it. He knew how bad it was and his heart cried out. No filter- just real. I respect him immensely for that.
As a non-chistian, this is the only form of religion everyone is ok with: showing empathy and concern for your fellow man. It's when y'all start trying to dictate how others live and love that most have an issue with.
As a fellow meteorologist this is something I hope I never have to do. He is a great example of how to stay calm and composed, also that this isn't just a job he's working. It's about helping protect life and property, and his community is blessed to have him!

As someone who has lived in an area where tornadoes are just a part of life that you have to get used to, this gave me chills and brought tears to my eyes. He knew exactly what he was looking at and what that meant for those people. It's very surreal when it happens in your own backyard. I'm glad they had a compassionate person to talk them through this. It may sound silly, but most of us develop a love for our meteorologists. Growing up, Dan "The Man" Satterfield (ifkyk) was ours. Many tornadic afternoons, you would hear him screaming from the tvs to warn us latch-key kids of what was coming & how to handle it. Step 1: Turn up the tv as loud as you can. Step 2: Get a helmet or pillows to cover your head. Step 3: Get in a closet or bathtub. Step 4: Do NOT come out until Dan tells you to. ❤
Dan was the man! People laughed at him telling kids to put helmets on or whatever they had to keep their heads safe. No he just cared about those kids at home alone and about protecting their brains. Most other injuries can be repaired. I was still following him in Oklahoma, and somehow I haven't seen anything from him in a while, but he still watches our weather here in Alabama. He is a good man 😊
Empathy. A dying trait that every single human being should posses and express. Mr Laubhan is a class act, a blessed man. We need more people like this. Men and women.
The world NEEDS praying Christians to intercede for them. Whether they know it or not. Some people are still breathing and receiving Gods grace and mercy, because of our Christ breaking our hearts to bless the unbelievers.
@@jc6270 for everyone who is supposedly "still breathing because of God's grace", there is another person who is no longer breathing, despite many prayers for them to live.
So the man has empathy because he is asking God to help, but if God is sitting idle watching people die until someone asks for help via prayer, is that God empathetic? And if God was already helping, what good is the prayer? Neither option makes sense. Either God is callous or prayer is useless. Either way breaks the Christian worldview.
Bless him. Sad that this would be unusual. As a Katrina survivor, we truly appreciated everyone who prayed for us that night as our lives changed forever. Of all people, a meteorologist knows just what those numbers and images mean.

That’s how prayer should be, the Bible speaks against vain repetitions, or praying without conviction. And it also calls people who pray as a public spectacle, or in an attention seeking manner “hypocrites”. That was a real crap pile of a day. Life really sucks sometimes and unfortunately no one is immune to tragedy. I have no answers. I’ve been seeking answers myself. ❤
Oh wow! That made me tear up. Sounds like a good man. We all appreciate that kind of comfort during catastrophic events. 😊

Dan was the man! People laughed at him telling kids to put helmets on or whatever they had to keep their heads safe. No he just cared about those kids at home alone and about protecting their brains. Matt Laubhan loves Jesus, loves his community, and loves his fellow man. He’s also the best technical and most highly skilled TV meteorologist since Nash Roberts was writing the book of hurricane predictions in New Orleans.
Hoo-Rah! Well said. What a great American. God bless!
I am from Birmingham and we have an older version of this same kind of meteorologist (weather man). His name is James Spann. Hang onto this fellow as long as you can. His kind are rare indeed.
This shows that there still are good people in the media.
I love that he was like, "Did everyone call their families"
I admire his courage for uttering a prayer on live TV he knew would be heard by the Master without concern for losing his job because someone may have been offended.
ANYONE offended by the concern of one Heart to MANY is not fit to breathe.
It is great to live where people openly talk about Jesus and pray everyday. No libs giving any guff, you can say God Bless you in a store and Merry Christmas and pray on the radio or TV or in person anytime you like. I used to live right there in Mississippi and those people are the salt of the earth. I am happy to live in Texas where I can freely talk about Jesus and if someone don't like it they can lump it. Same goes for the midwest. Really most of our country is uninfected by the massive lib virus that causes mental disease. Oh yes, we have them but I just poo poo them away, shoo and get out of my face if anyone says anything. In the hell known as Portlandia or Commiefornia that could get you killed.

Now I'm not a religious person but you could tell just how naturally that prayer came to him. There was no thought's of "oh I must do this because x, y, z", it was just a truly heartfelt, emotional reaction to what he saw. I can respect that.
That’s how prayer should be, the Bible speaks against vain repetitions, or praying without conviction. And it also calls people who pray as a public spectacle, or in an attention seeking manner “hypocrites”.
That’s why it aggravates me when I hear people spewing out the same mumbled prayer before eating, or before church service.

It so nice to know that a tragedy occurs and strong, independent thinkers have the courage to take to the internet and complain about others showing empathy. All while saying no words to and displaying no care or concern for the victims and families of those affected by the disaster.
Yeah i cant believe it either. People are so upset just hearing a guy say a 2 second prayer and completely focus on that instead of the obvious care he has for others. They should be ashamed
I know "professionally" they're not supposed to do that.
But this is human. This is good.

He really cared. Cared about complete strangers. That kindness is comforting.
Thats what it’s required to be a Christian. Bless them when they curse you and pray for one another. A few of the many great commandments give onto us from our Lord Jesus Christ.
@@catalincata9043 I'm not even a Christian, and I still pretty much do that. It doesn't matter if the person hates my guts simply because I exist, I'll still genuinely feel bad for them when fit hits the shan (if you catch what I mean by that 😂) in their world and they're going through a lot.
Reminds me of an older news video. The meteorologist broke down into tears live on the air after seeing what the storm they were tracking was going to do. I don't know how someone could have a job like that and not cry. You literally are telling everyone in that area "there is this massive, deadly storm heading your way, and you could very likely die in the next 20 minutes." It's like that scene in the movie "Only The Brave" (I recommend you watch it if you haven't) when Brendan McDonough walks into the gym and every person in there breaks down into tears because when he walked in, he confirmed that the single closest people to everyone in that room had died.
Too bad god didn't care to not send the deadly tornadoes in the first place. Thank god for sparing you during a natural disaster (or really anything) is like thanking a serial killer for sparing you and killing your neighbors instead. Then again, reasoning isn't strong with the religious; if it were, they wouldn't be religious in the first place.
@@catalincata9043 Christianity is not only factually not true (as in its claims) but is also morally bankrupt. Believing in eternal punishment for finite crimes is evil. believing that god controls everything, and thus sent the tornadoes that killed innocent people is evil. your god is evil and you are, by proxy, are at least ignorantly so--and that makes you and yours dangerous.
Watching this man pray made my faith stronger. God bless this man any his coworkers.
Doesn’t God control everything? Why would he create a tornado and then help the people he put in danger?
@@MarioGoatse all things happens for a reason, but the Bible says the consequences of sin is death. The world we live in is full of evil and against God. And so to answer your question.... 2 Chronicles 7:14 if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
@@wilbertcordero8059 That sounds like an abusive relationship lmao. Imma send disaster and death your way, but if you grovel at my feet, I’ll let you live. Don’t you ever question why he would do that?
@@MarioGoatse A god must exist, for natural law itself could be considered a god. The question isn't whether or not god exists, but whether or not god is a being a person could appeal to. It may be frightening, but a personal god is, ultimately, better than a god that's incapable of caring at all.
Now the question is, why would a caring god allow or cause evil things to happen? The problem is this relies on a human understanding of evil, & as such it puts god on the same level as humans. But god, in whatever form it exists, is above humanity, just as humanity is above its own creations.
Religion is a superstition. These people are just terrified of the realization that no one is in control and events are random. There is no god its just a superstitious way of thinking
