Not sure if you have heard ofthe song CHILD IN TIME. Ian Gillian young voice was amazing and the high notes he use to hit. Unfortunately this song did have an effect on him that he wanted to stop using it but Richie Blackmore kept on playing it. Check out the live version if you have not heard it before

Really interesting to hear a reaction from someone who doesn’t really know real heavy rock music or didn’t experience its evolution from the start. So that probably accounts for some weird comments… but I guess every generation tends to come at the world with glasses tinged as if they’re the first. And at 66 I come at the world with undeniable bias for these rock pioneers. For us DP have been on a meandering journey, some of it decidedly average, but in the last 4 albums or so they’ve found more of their mojo. So listening to your take as younger bloke is a useful reality check. All good fun. Thanks for your review.

you have 20 years on me so my key period for discovering music was 1990 to 2004 after that i stopped keeping up with the new music, i did look backwards and was always into my hard rock from bands like Witesnake, Thunder and FM but never really went as far back as FREE, Deep Purple, Zepplin etc as the production never captured my imagination, was a beetles fan, still am.

Excellent reaction and video. The singer is Ian Gillan (GILL-ann), who actually did an album as the singer for Black Sabbath (Born Again), and was the original Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar. This is a great example, as you said, of why this style of soloing is much preferable to modern shredding, which is not musical and has no soul. Page, Blackmore, Iommi, Schenker, all of the greats played thoughtful solos that had heart and soul in them, which made them memorable. Interestingly, the very good new keyboard player who replaced he great Jon Lord (rip) is using a keyboard sound that is much more akin to Kansas than Deep Purple's/Lord's old Hammond. Here are a couple of things that might interest you along these lines: ruclips.net/video/gZ_kez7WVUU/видео.htmlsi=tztzIgXQi5F4VTNj and ruclips.net/video/UAKCR7kQMTQ/видео.htmlsi=oxtAUu3QGs-Hff_n The first, "Perfect Srangers" was a song issued many years after the 70's, and refers to him coming back to your awareness as a fan after decades away. The second, from 1972, is "Highway Star", about how Ian Gillan loves his car, his girl and his drugs. Both are great and good examples.
