  • It's December 1990 and we see two trains shunting the Mungo Scott Mill. First one in the up direction and then in the down direction.

The last time I would have shunted there was in 2002 on trip train T105. We usually had a single 80 class. Thanks for the upload 👍

Use to catch them every now and then shunting there and also the allied mills silo's and the dulwich hill goods yard next stop up the road, diesel and steam. Great days.

I think the trip train that shunted the wheat sidings was T111, if my memory serves me right, though I could be wrong. Shunted Mungo Scott's (now converted to units on the light rail line that runs under between Lewisham and Summer Hill), Loves siding on the Up Metro Goods Line at Enfield North and Gonaro siding at Thornleigh to name a few. Thanks for the memories.

Great video Allan, brought back some memories, I think the silos were converted into units and sold off? Now the tram runs down there, my how things change. Lot of mucking about shunting that place, and making sure you didn't "lock" the loco in too.

Allan: Greetings from across the Bigger Pond (Pacific). Excellent video, could have used a little commentary to fill in location for us, plus only took 29 years to reach here, (West Coast U.S.A.). Keep on Rolling, & the wheels between the rails! Always said the country that gave us Olivia Newton John, can't be bad.

I believe Mungo Scott’s flour mill was actually on the old Darling Harbour “Metropolitan goods line” that once ran between Redfern and Dulwich Hill in Sydney, NSW Australia. The “goods line” was progressively wound down in stages starting in the 1970’s, and by the mid 90’s the section between Redfern and Balmain Road Junction had been completely shut down. Balmain Road Junction provided access to the once extensive Rozelle yard, but this too was progressively closed, and it’s operations moved elsewhere. The flour mill shown in the video was (to my knowledge) the very last industry to survive on the original “Metropolitan goods line” route, and once operations were shut down and moved to a new site at Maldon, located on the Main South Railway to Melbourne, the goods line was shut down altogether, and the line now forms part of the Sydney Light Rail network. Google “metro goods line Sydney” and you should be able to find a very comprehensive history of the whole line. Also the book “Sydney’s forgotten Goods Railways” has an interesting chapter on the line, and the industries it once served.

@@stephenwilliamson4556 For an interesting perspective on the goods line you should check out Island Shunters at ruclips.net/video/AUPntfAaVRU/видео.html ..it's fascinating! Cheers

@@nigelstringfellow5187 I’ve seen that film, it’s very fascinating to see how it all once looked. I’ll have to get back to Sydney at some point and have a look at the “Goods Line” walk. I haven’t been in NSW since 2017, so I’m definitely due a trip back
