Great video, no rest for the wicked at Hornsby Box, like Penrith Box, always busy. Very few air conditioned suburban sets in that video, the travelling public have become soft and more demanding these days. 8245 & 8244 "just out of the box" brand new with National Rail not far from entering the scene. Great video Allan, brought back some memories, most enjoyable.

True, but they are all dead attached ex-auction locos being moved from Cardiff in Newcastle to Ropes Creek/Dunhaved for scrapping. The southbound double blue 81 National Rail crewed superfreighter from Brisbane sure was quick as a flash when lightly loaded. Nevertheless, Hornsby was an important signal box not just because it is on the Brisbane - Melbourne National Rail East Coast route but also as the track layout indicates with the positioning of the crossovers it is the junction of the North Shore line in addition to this function. The 1920s stanchions also almost reach Asquith station because the Hornsby Maintenence Centre is directly north of the signal box after the stabling roads. I assume the catenary is anchored and terminated outside the northern wall of the centre almost in the suburb of Asquith like all the other suburban depots built during that era. This may have changed when the copper wire catenary was replaced with steel.
