  • Shot in Early 1993 by my grandfather over a number of days this video documents the different types of trains that would run on the Northern Line between Central and Hornsby.
This video also features shots at North Enfield, Cowan and Eastwood.

Great video. Hard to believe how many loco hauled passenger trains there were. Certainly wouldn’t have been around for much longer after this was filmed. Also enjoyed the mixed freights, as well as the electrics.

What a throw back... 46s, 86s, 442s all these class of loco I remember well as a kid operating on the south coast line mate. Love the video.
P.S Th8s location you filmed is it still accessible these days?

19:27 Hard to work out if this train is the Tamworth or Grafton Speedfreight with all those cement wagons, boxcars and wheat hoppers on it. Many wooden railway sleeper carrying wagons and a few Ampol NTBF bitumen wagons on there too. It will probably be divided at Broadmeadow yard Newcastle. The lineside 1927 era metal stanchions are works of art in themselves. Good footage of soon-to-be National Rail super freighters transiting between Dynon, Chullora and Acacia Ridge through the leafy north-western Sydney suburbs featured here.
