Being a machine engineer, the ebay special is easier to service and to me seems a good option. I would use coolant designed for aluminium engines to prevent corrosion and pitting or at least distilled water and definitely keep filters clean to prevent getting mayo in your gun. If you fill a tank first, any oil water mixture will sit in the bottom and is less likely to get into your gun if it gets past your filters. For any noobs, compressors always generate water and so requires filtering out.

Andy, your reviews are always helpful and this one is, by far, the best for pcp fans. There are always going to be other makes of compressors that you could have included, but this gave excellent, broad advice on likely prices etc. Thanks for all of your reviews.

2 years on my Ebay special and no issues. I change the oil every season and keep the filters clean. I have three gun cylinders I fill and and average about 3 fills a month. Always run water through these even for a top off as they will build temp way too fast. I did wrap my stainless air tubes with copper wire for additional heat dispersion and that help cool them off a bit. Also leave the water pump running after shutting down the unit as they don't bleed heat well and leaving the water running for an additional 5 or 10 minutes will help dissipate extra heat

I know this video is a year old by the time I’ve seen it but still very knowledgeable for a novice ( Beginner) like me. I am now going into a year with my PCP world and I tell you this to all of you beginners ,,,,,,, you can by any PCP air Gun or Rifle but what you don’t realize when you start is,,,,,,,,,, you need ,no you WANT a reliable compressor! And looking around I want one that can be used regularly and weekly ,monthly into years to come! Just don’t want to carry around a bucket of water. Thanks for the information you posted very knowledgeable 🙂

Great video thanks for sharing .At my work they use Haskell air driven pumps for up to 400bar , so if you had a small air compressor this feeds the Haskell air pump which then gives you up to 400bar output .

Now i now why i am not a fan of PCP rifles, the hassle and expensive of filling them unless you live close to a gunshop
is just not worth it for me.
I don't use my airguns often enough to justify the expense of the gear required to fill them at home.
Thanks for making us aware of the pro's and cons of available compressors.

Yong Heng ebay special... over 3 years so far only one issue.. Had to replace the power relay under the cover... About your temp gauge.. look at the front of ther handle and back of the cylinder there is a place to put the end of the sensor for accurate temp reading.. These pumps are awesome/... Mine fills my Marauder in less than a minute!..from 2000 to 3000 PSI..Paid 303.00 for mine in Feb of 2017. Love it!!

I ran a yong Heng for well over a year. They require constant attention and have a very dirty output suggesting multiple air filters after compression which I did. You can never run them without circulating cold water. There is also a very explicit start stop procedure. I had well over 30 hours use and it needed a high-pressure piston head. After that replacement it is again running just fine with constant attention.
What you don’t have here is probably the most intelligent compressor. The Omega series. I have the basic one and already well over 10 hours on it which again is quite a lot of air for a single person. The only maintenance is an occasional bit of grease. Truly exceptional and also the quietest with virtually no maintenance. It did not even come with air filter so I put A good one on it.

    • @dingfeldersmurfalot4560
      @dingfeldersmurfalot4560 4 года назад

The basic one? I guess you mean one of the ones bigger than their Trail Charger, which I was thinking of getting, but I'll have to save for a while as it is pricey.. Only thing I worry about is with this trade war, the price may climb. Sounds like you really like your model, so I hope mine is just as good when I get it.

I have the Air Venturi compressor. After two years of use, I found it would only charge up to 1,000 psi. After doing some internet searches and conversations with Pyramyd Air, I discovered that the stainless steel reed valve on the second stage had burned a pin-hole through it. This was caused by carbon building up on the reed valve, and the over-heated carbon burning a hole through the reed valve. Bottom line, I should have used a better quality oil designed specifically for high pressure compressors. I was able to replace the reed valve myself. Pyramyd Air had the correct reed valve in stock. I noticed a small amount of corrosion on the cooling system internals, even though I had been using distilled water. Now I am using a radiator coolant and distilled water mix. I am also using a better quality oil. My Air Venturi is working fine now. Overall, I am satisfied with my Air Venturi compressor. I should have started out with better oil, and used radiator coolant.

Excellent review on all of these compressors! I have the Nomad II and fill up my 3 x Ninja Pro V2 SLP Aluminum 3000 PSI 13 Cubic Inch tanks. I usually just fill them up one right after the other and each take about 10 min each to fill to 3000 PSI. I never give the Nomad time to cool down, but after watching this video, I will give it at least 5 to 7 min to cool down a bit by letting the fan run while it's running on idle to cool down faster. Thanks again for the great review!

this week(19/11/21) I bought an Ejoyous High Pressure Air Pump Electric High Pressure Air Compressor Pump 4500PSI / 30MPA, 300BAR High Pressure Air Pump, Portable PCP Air Compressor off Amazon uk, for £133 quid...its basically the same as the "ebay special"...
it requires 2 LR44 watch batteries to power the temp gauge, and i ordered No 46 hydraulic oil but will use synthetic iso 100 compressor oil in the future after reading the comments here...
the temp sensor is supposed to be placed in a hole at the back of the cooling cylinder...
i found my water hoses were also kinked and will have to put them in a bowl of hot waters to get them right again...
i worked out that if it manages 26 bottle fills it will have paid for its self!
great video Andy i feel better with my purchase after watching this!

I would definitely upgrade to a better oil/water separator with the eBay special compressor, around £80 , but none of these seem to have very good oil/water separators tbh , but if go for the Heng Yang eBay special faster then the others to fill gun, and can full small/medium tanks in 30 minn runs

    • @hetrodoxly1203
      @hetrodoxly1203 4 года назад +3

What do you mean by 'oil/water separator' as a compressor engineer to me this is something that takes any oil that's carried over into the condenser out of the water that's created when air is compressed, it has no effect on how the compressor runs, it's a legal requirement to stop oil going down the drain.

Hi Andy it’s 3 years since this review and the last one you did on a compressor pumps was for the BSA pump. Just thought, I’d mention that I’ve just purchased a GX CS2 pump, and thought it might be worth a mention. As they are exactly what is inside the BSA branded box. But without the cover and at a fraction of the price. The BSA one is basically the GX CS3 version which BSA have their branding put on.
In the interests of us penny pinching air gun enthusiasts, it would be nice to see you reviewing the very affordable GX CS2 version of the pump.

I recently purchased the Amazon Brand compressor. Yes, it's not the most user friendly unit, but for the price it does the job. It is a pain in the neck plugging in the water pump but the system fills my air guns and extra tanks just fine. Just need to keep an eye on the unit to make sure it doesn't overheat. This far it's done the job. Oh and it's 110.ac / 220.ac if desired.

Very informative review. My interest was the eBay Special, which is being sold in the US by a number of vendors. None of them offer any warranty, but the pump has the cooling feature which is well thought-out and uses that inexpensive aquarium pump. It has been favorably mentioned in forum posts and I believe it’s the one I will buy. Recently the piece of junk I bought via Alibaba failed. It had issues upon arrival and I doubt I put 10 hours on it. It very much resembles another Yong Heng being sold on Amazon for $269. This pump also appears under major brand names, but I won’t be fooled again.

Nice review of a few of the options available to the PCP Airgunner. Much emphasis needs to be put upon keeping the heat below the manufacturers recommended threshold. I think that heat and incorrect choice of lubricants is the main cause of shortened compressor life. The K30 seems to be a lot like the Hatsan Spark, and Benjamin Traveler. I think that Airgunners should be reminded to avoid running these little compressors for intervals of 20 minutes or more, with at least 30-40 minutes of time to cool off. Another consideration might be important, and that is to remove the load from the compressor prior to shutting it off. As I believe that the sudden stoppage of the crankshaft, and conrod/piston assembly under a significant load, could be a source of excessive wear to the associated parts. Another consideration should be to changing the oil where applicable as soon as it begins to to get cloudy.
Thanks for the time and effort to make this useful video. And thanks to the other folks who have posted their experiences with the various compressors. It's very useful to be able to compare the various designs and their success or failure to provide value to the consumer.

I have an ebay-special, mine is a little better spec but essentially the same ( temp probe has a hole to go into on the vertical cylinder, water pump plugs into the pump itself for 12v power, and the vertical cylinder has better cooling fins ). For the price, it's great- very fast to fill, simple to operate, and far less effort than a hand pump ( my old hand pump is shot, not worth repairing ). If you're on a budget I would certainly consider it over the more expensive options- you could buy 3 or 4 for the price of the next cheapest competitor.

Sideshowbobx also the nice thing about them is there’s plenty of places to get parts and complete rebuild kits, plus they’re really simple to work on. Really can’t go wrong with one. Oh and Walmart is now selling the Yong Heng with the optional three year warranty.

After months of handpumping, I got myself the Chinese compressor!!!! What luxury! My first impression was why did I buy this again? 'cause it took just minutes to fill my smallest gun tank. But I still remember the pain staking Hatsan tank that took a split time filling it up because of the large capacity and I was careful with my new compressor, it got hot. maybe it had to run the engine in a bit. It's working fine now.

Great video Andy, may I offer some advice when talking air containers. The easy way to remember the correct term for any particular container is as follows:
    Tanks have lids
    Bottles have corks
    Cylinders have valves.
    Keep up the good work.

I payed a little more and got me a Yong heng, basically the same as an "Ebay-special" but better water hoses and some other improvements like an owners manual in english that tell you that the probe for the temperature gauge should be inserted in the hole on the cylinder. 😊 I did not follow the recommendations to use iso 46 aw hydraulic oil but used a high quality synthetic iso 100 compressor oil which can withstand the temperatures reached in the second stage of compressing to avoid carbon build-up on the second stage piston.

I too went with the YH model one year ago. I'm also using the Royal Purple Synfilm Recip. 100 compressor oil. The unit has been amazing and fills my gun in a consistent 2 minutes flat. You absolutely have to use the water cooling when running the pump regardless of air temp. I have my whole unit in a cabinet with a slideout shelf all contained and I couldn't be happier, especially after hearing your horror stories on the expensive models.
I figured I can fix about anything myself "if" I had problems or buy 8 more for the money of a more expensive model. Take all the steps I mentioned above, get a large water/air separator and maintain your unit well and I thing the YH is hard to beat!
      Excellent review Andy!!!!!!!

@@AZBADBOYz doing the same here, have 5 very big bottle fills so far....biggest issue is moisture, im in dry california, yet it squeses lots of moisture out of the air, so i have added a dryfilter like the hill pump have on the intake, 2 big filters on the output, and finally the included little filter it came with.....im contemplating setting it up right now, as both my tanks are at 200bar...ohh also running royal purple oil...biggest issue is the time it takes to set up and i like to put ice in my water bucket which complicates the whole thing more

Hi Andy, I have just purchased a TUXING 12 volt / mains compressor from Amazon which was £239. Like most of the compressors you reviewed it is from China and has a separate transformer but came with a three pin plug. It is fairly noisy in use but doesn’t need a separate cooling system. In fact it appears to be very similar to the one you reviewed at £500. This is not to gloat, but measly to offer a less expensive alternative for those of us on a budget and an alternative to a divers bottle at a comparable price. I hope this will be of use to you and my fellow shooters.

I'd take an Ebay Special any day.
Read someone have had one broken quite quickly - but that can happen with anything and to anyone. Gotta just take care you get the best and most suitable fluids for it.
I just love the more simplicity of it (an assumption by just looking at it). If it breaks - you then probably got a chance to fix it yourself. I do not mind at all the "open cooling system" it has - nor the 240V only.
Would personally not hesitate buying one .. whenever I first get bought my very first PCP airgun.😁

and don't over run it max fill time is around 30mins, and change the oil when it discolours also better to get a better oil/water separator around £80 on eBay/Amazon ,then it'll last

Hi andy i bought the ebay special and it works brilliant it fills my pcp airguns in seconds less than a minute and the temperature gauge is not problem as we know that the cost of the manufacturing industry in China is probably the cheapest in the world and i paid £129.00 pounds sterling for it and you do get a lot of bang for your buck the quality of build is good and would pay for itself in the end and more for this money it is well worth the investment and you could buy 3 for the price of 1 nomad or smk k30 compressors I believe less is sometimes more because mine doesn't have the automatic turn of and i am happy with that because you should not leave any air compressor unattended anyway when in use the problem with automatic turn of switches is they break so food for thought when buying a air compressor excellent review as always and keep up the good work we are humanity hominids ascending from our true ancestors the great apes migration colonisation time evolution civilisation the material field the status quo but please remember not to give a chimpanzee a live hand grenade because it will pull the pin lol
