The fact they even got Brando to be Jor El is astounding.

He liked those kind of roles deep down. It's very similar to Don Corleone is certain respects
They gave him a offer he couldn’t refuse. People were awe struck by the amount of dough he got
That Brando impression was hysterical 😂
I knew he was up for the role. But I didn't know how goofy Puzo's script was. We're so lucky they found Donner and Mankowitz fixed the script
Rest in peace Jimmy I loved you in. Rollerball
He was also great in Misery.
@@Woozlewuzzleable Also great on Las Vegas TV series.
Caan would've been all wrong to play Clark Kent/Superman. If Gene Hackman had turned down Lex Luthor than maybe Caan would've made a decent Lex.
No worse than Michael Keaton as Batman.
@@angelthman1659 Michael Keaton while not what you'd have typically thought of as Batman ended up being great in the role.
_"You'll Believe A Man Caan Fly"_
Rip 🙏🙏🙏
He couldn't play superman they gunned him down at a toll booth on the LIE, remember? Leave the gun, take the cannolis.. and he croaked as Brian piccolo so he's dead twice . Hehheeh
Rest in peace James Caan 1940-2022
1939. Wikipedia is wrong.
I love this story.
Thank Zod the Mario Puzo script was cleaned up by Richard Donner and Tom Mankiewicz. It is the greatest superhero film and one of the greatest films overall of all time.
"Greatest of all time " Greatest of all time ".....whenever people use that phrase they automatically disqualify themselves from being taken seriously.
@@zdave6083 But you haven't asked me why I have that opinion which disqualifies you from being taken seriously. And I'll have you know, I've seen over 5,000 films from as early as The Great Train Robbery to films of the present from all over the world. As you were saying!?!?!
@@boudusaved4719 Your response proves my point. One is only praising oneself by declaring a film ( or anything) to be the G.O.A.T. Basking in the reflected glory . This is the G.O.A.T. because I have the great good judgment to perceive it as such. .. Sorry, guess I'm triggered . No offense but you gotta admit the phrase is overused these days.
@@zdave6083 RUclips is not really the venue for lengthy discussions, but I am working on a book about Superman and when I finish it, I will come back to this post and ask you to send me an address where I can ship you a free copy of that book...assuming you would even care to read it. Then you will have my full perspective of the film and I why I treasure it.
@@boudusaved4719 done with that book yet, Mark Twain?
Would of been not good. Like Joel Schumacher set Batman back like 20 years.
Artie must have been gutted to have missed Jimmy Caan in the studio.
Richard Donner wanted an unknown actor to play Superman I think
Read William Goldman's book. This was the late 70s before the comic book hero blockbuster era. According to Goldman, just about every star on the planet was offered the part. Nobody would do it because they were afraid they would look ridiculous. So Donner went with an unknown because he had no choice.
RIP James Caan 😔
Jimmy Caan and Burt Reynolds’s, both notorious for turning down roles. Bobby Deniro on the other hand, knew how to pick ‘em
Rocky & Bullwinkle
Superman with curly hair and a New York accent? Hellz yeah!!!
Wow, I watched this and forgot he passed away. RIP
Even in his young days, him as Superman would had been baffling
A strange choice for sure ... almost as weird as Sylvester Stallone.
R.I.P James Caan 😢🥺
🤣
Oxmelissa 💋
They didn't go for the Mario Puzo story because it was silly yet, he still got the credit for Superman.
Sorry but no way Caan as superman. They almost casted Nick Cage as Superman! Forget about the acting, you have to look the part.
Santino, Santino. What has pops done to make you treat me so disrespectful?
Love u jimmy...but maybe lex but nit superman
if he was offered to play Superman's great great grandfather he would have said yes
He looks good here-hard to believe he is gone
He’s got an ADHD
Berni sanders should play superman
My vote would be for Mr. T
The tongue and cheek version would have been hysterical and better. I always thought the movie was stupid and weak.
James Caan is brilliant
