Ditto to Julie and Carmen. It seems that UM blue, Payne's, pink and yellow are almost always used in landscapes. Is it because they can handle the wide variety of the colors of nature with such versatility? Your tutorials make me think I can really do this! THANK YOU
It is so true Anne, they are such useful colours for landscapes and many of the watercolour sets have them. I try to incorporate colours that I know people will have, especially starting out in watercolour. So pleased the tutorials inspire you to have a go! Have fun 😊
I have to exercise these beautiful skies, as I have difficulty realizing them. Thank you for your tips!
You're so welcome!
Thank you for the skies I’m ready to try
What a clear an helpfull tutorial! Painting skies: I like it a lot as a sailor.
Thanks , Luk (Belgium)
Thanks so much Luk! Really pleased you like this tutorial 😊
I watch a lot of art videos and I love watching people paint but yours are always the ones that make me want to get the paints out and try it myself.
Wow! Thank you Julie for your lovely comment! Really pleased the tutorials inspire you to get your paints out!
Same!!!
That is so true. You don’t make it look easy as such but you make it look fun and perfectly possible. I like the way you explain what you’re doing and why.

Thanks so much 😊
Thank you for all! The one that really gets my creative juices going is the city nightscape!
Thank you Helene! That one was my favourite too! A more in-depth one to follow I think! 😊
I joined an art class years ago and they made everything so complicated that I just thought "nah, this isn't for me." Watching your tutorials I feel like I was cheated out of years of painting watercolours, as you explain and demonstrate everything in such a beginner friendly way that I'm going to take it up again. Thank you so much for the inspiration.
I am so glad that you have found me!

4th painting - tks - didn't know you could paint on top of a dry work and not mess up what was underneath = an eye opener
So pleased you found this helpful 😊
I absolutely love your new format for teaching. So easy for beginners to learn from these techniques. Thanks so much, love your channel.
I am delighted that you like this new format for teaching. I thought it would really help beginners to learn the basics and go from there! So pleased you like the channel. Thank you William 😊
That is wonderful Karen... Love your art!! Thanks for all the tips 👌👋🇦🇺
Thank you Michael!
I too love that stormy sky and night sky Karen. Time to have a go p, as I have a number of photos of stormy skies from the south coast, while visiting my brother ( easier times). Thank you.
Thank you Barbara! Mine too! Have fun painting stormy skies!
So excited to see the night sky. Can't wait to try this.
Wonderful! Have fun 😀
Very informative & helpful...especially like the drama of the night sky painting
Thank you so much Linda 😀The night sky was my favourite!
Four for the price of one! What an excellent tutorial and one to save and go back to. So well explained as always and really simplifying an element than can often be so difficult to approach. Thanks so much Karen as always. Much appreciated 💕
Thank you so much Dearbhla, really pleased you like the tutorial and found it helpful! I loved the night sky and will attempt to do a more in-depth tutorial 😊
@@KarenRiceArt Oh yes Karen, the night sky was fabulous especially with the addition of the little buildings and their 'lights' at the bottom. It would be nice to see something like that again.
I just discovered your tutorials today and your techniques are just fantastic! I love the one where you showed how to do the people. What a lovely way to do them. Thank you so much for your lovely methods.

You make it seem so easy, but when I get into it is a different story. Anyway I have a great time listening your soothing and calming voice. It makes me feel I can make it and try to persevere.
I follow you from Chile. I love RUclips!

Ils sont tous absolument fabuleux!!!!Merci Karen,ça donne envie de faire des ciels.
Merci Danielle! 😊
I love your videos. You are a born natural teacher. May I request Karen that you show us how to paint rivulets with earth colours?
Great suggestion! Thank you Catherine, so pleased you like the tutorials and my teaching 😊
Lovely skies. I have painted some using your techniques, my way and added elements to it.
Wonderful! Thank you Nandita 😊
Thanks so much for this sky tutorial. I have learned a lot and have had so much fun following along.
That is wonderful Judith! So pleased you liked this tutorial and that you had fun following along...😀
Love your tutorials Karen and these ones of how to do different skies are just awesome - thank you so much !
Thank you so much Leanne! So pleased you like this tutorial!
Love watching you mix the colors for the various scenes. Just FYI, because I’ve been in a boat when a storm came up, most sailors would not go out with such an ominous looking sky. But, they could have started before the clouds appeared. I love the night scene!
Thank you Ann! You are right about the boat and the storm! 😂
Fantastic series of skies - thank you so much for this series - it is really helpful to focus on a particular element 👏😁
Thank you so much Chris! So pleased you like this series! You are right it really does help you to focus!
Bellissimi,grazie per la condivisione.
So helpful, as always. You make everything look so easy! Thanks for another great video. 🙂
You are so welcome! Thank you Kris!
Perfect timing as I was trying to do an evening seascape today and it was rather a failure but after watching your great tutorials, I will give it another go tomorrow! Thanks very much, I look forward to learning more.😀
That is wonderful Wendy, so glad this came at the right time. Hope it helps with your evening seascape! Have fun 😊
Very helpful tutorial thanks for sharing 🥰!
You’re welcome 😊Thank you Tracey :)
I know I commented on another video the other day but I just have to comment again. I thought skies like that were only achievable with oils! So happy I found your channel just as I'm beginning to use watercolors. Your work is truly amazing.
Thank you Simon 😀
Wonderful! Thank you very much! ❤
Glad you like it! Thank you Kelly 😊

W o W awesome🎉
Very inspiring! I follow a lot of your tutorials, Karen, and they’ve really helped me get to grips with and enjoy watercolour. I would like to invest in a few Daniel Smith watercolours but don’t have a big budget. For the type of landscape painting you do, which 5 or 6 colours would you recommend I go for? I love interesting textures, granulation etc.
So pleased you are enjoying the tutorials Ruth and they are helping you get to grips with watercolour. I love the Primatek Daniel Smith watercolours: Hematite Genuine, Mayan Blue, Green Apatite Genuine, but there are so many more. You can look at some google images of the colours to decide as well. Hope this was helpful 😄
Thank you Karen.....I’m feeling a little stagnate right now 😔 I just can’t seem to get it right lately....
Try not to be too hard on yourself...and think in terms of right and wrong. Just play and try to have fun 😊
@@KarenRiceArt I’m going to do that today.....I got up early this morning and having coffee, when I’m done I’m diving in and going to do you skies.....your skies are beautiful I might add. I like the way you teach us Karen.....I have all the colors and brushes but I think I want to rush and it’s turning out to be a disaster. I need to slow down and learn, I have plenty of practice water color paper and tons of student and top of the line paints....I think I’m expecting to much out of myself. It’s a new day and I’m determined! Skies the limit today 😁 have a great day / evening Karen.
@@strictlymyopinion8307 Thank you for sharing, really pleased you find the tutorials helpful! I hope you enjoyed painting the skies and were not too hard on yourself!
I did them Karen and they did not turn out that bad at all, I’m actually quite proud of myself. I believe I probably could’ve put a little bit more effort in it but I was afraid of overdoing it, I think in some I may have overdone it and in some I may have undergone it. The moral of the story is I’m happy with the skies and thank you for putting me up to the challenge, I needed it. I am rookie with a whole bunch of beautiful paint and brush show and liquid paint and have no idea where to start 😬
@@strictlymyopinion8307 I am so pleased you had a go and that you are proud of yourself! Well done! Paint for fun and try not to be too hard on yourself :)
What colors did you use to paint those pink/orange clouds on the top left? Do you have a demo of that?
Thank you for your question Katia. I used Ultramarine, Permanent Rose & Burnt Sienna for the cloud shadows top left. If you would like to watch more in-depth tutorials, check out my Patreon membership: www.patreon.com/karenriceart :)
@@KarenRiceArt Thank you Karen. Very much appreciated
I would like to clarify if the picture that shows up top left at 2:17 is a photo or a painting. Can you please tell me?
Hi Katia, it is a photo :)
@@KarenRiceArt
Ok. Thank you
Hope you don't mind my using a comment for this, but I must regretfully ask you to cancel my subscription. It is my hope to return at a future date but most of the last year I have struggled, lacking space in which to work and being increasingly troubled with cataracts. Very best wishes to you.
I have messaged you on Patreon regarding this matter.
