I remember when I purchased my first embroidery machine...a big learning curve...I ended up learning some digitizing too for small short runs. I went with Tajima and now will go with nothing else. Ten years on that machine with NO breakdowns but good proper maintenance. It started out being about 10% embroidery 90% screen printing. Now it is about 40/60. Good luck!
Yea Tajima seems to make a great machine as well. I have heard once you go embroidery you tend to move away from printing more and more.

@@trunkz007 I really dont know enough about them to say I dont like then. However, I feel that there is something to the company that we are not seeing. I pay attention to their heavy marketing and the fact that other companies want nothing to do with their machines.
I also tune in to their lives with Henry, and when I ask certain questions about their machine...I watch him skip over specific questions. Like I said, I really dont know enough about them company or machine to say I dont like them, but there has been enough red flags for me to NOT invest my money. That being said, I may not go with Melco either, lol....and I have nothing bad to say about Melco.

@@ThePrintLife no major issues.. just keep up with the normal maint, oiling and such. It's a big learning curve but you'll have no real problems. Bobbin tension is critical on these..

Good choice on the Melco. For people who care about quality and craft, there really is no other choice. Barudan and Tajima is for high production contract shops that do not care about quality of their product. For hats, there really is nothing that compares as far as quality is concerned.
I hope that turns out to be true. So far it seems like a beast.

Stahls adhesive twill works awesome for patches, also Coleman and company has some great videos and products dedicated just for patch makers! Love the machine, I’m working on getting one also!
Great tip! Sweet that is exactly what im looking for. So twill is the fabric im looking for?
@@ThePrintLife yes, my favorite. I do see some people use felt and canvas. Twill doesn’t distort and is much more forgiving when your density is off. You should use the appliqué setting, then you can trim off the fabric before the final satin stitching, gives a nice finish.
I would take a serious look at Mighty hoops. We have them and love them!!

Great! Makes me remember when I bought my first stitching machine. It took me quite a while to learn. In the end for me, having somebody inhouse who can digitise very good, was essential. Keep an eye on the proper thread tension. Greetings from Germany

I love my EMT16x. I suggest getting Magic Hoops and the Hooptech Gen2 cap frame!! Makes productivity & consistency so much better.
You can also get needles that will cut them out for you,, use the right badge fabric and keep it in tension in the hoop, and learn to digitise properly, call if you need a hand

Should have got a barudan instead but at least you didn’t get a Ricoma. Melco is still a good choice.
I do like the Barudans for sure. I like the melco cause you can chain multiple machines together and instead of having say four heads run of one motor each machine is running independent, so if a thread breaks or something like that the other 3 machines can keep on trucking. of course I was concerned that 4 single heads would cost way more than a 4 head. but melco prices the purchase of 4 machines the same as if I was buying a 4 head from another manufacturer. I dont know yet if this is the right decision but I feel good about working with them so far. Ill keep you posted with more vids as I put this through its paces.
Disagree. Melco is the better choice, especially for a small shop just starting out that truly cares about quality.
Beard Booze Melco is a great option but Barudan is one of the best. Even if you have a small shop because once you upgrade to a 6 head the transition is very easy. I’m have a 6 head barudan with another incoming.
Mike at Keep on Creating produces amazing work. John Deer Embroidery channel has some really great digitising content but was recently doing videos on patches- they sell a merrow-like pattern file as well.

For what it’s worth, I have an emc6 from like the 90s that’s still banging out patches on the daily.
I ran into allot of that. lots of long time happy customer. A few angry ones as well, but it seems like a good gamble to me. What manufacturer is your favorite?
@@ThePrintLife Tajima, but that’s what I first started with and I’m a sucker for that green paint. I think it’s hard to go wrong these days unless you’re running production full time on a machine.

Just curious why you chose melco over other brands. Would love to know what sold you on this machine over others.
The main reason whas the ability to chain machines together. If you need a 4 head machine you can hit up melco and they will price it out to match what a typical 4 head machine would run, and now if you have 4 machines going and one has a bobbin run out. the other 3 machines will keep running. That's my main logic. Time will tell if this is proper logic.

OH yea I watched a lot of her stuff. I love what she is doing. and she made the machine look like a winner to me.
Embroidery is indeed cool. That machine doesnt look for beginner though..
It's not beginner-priced, but it is really user-friendly.

I dont think its the labor so much as the time. I dont think one machine will be fast enough to fulfill any real orders. I atleast need one more, but ideally I would have 4.

Nope nope nope...learn the digitising software at the same time. It’s where the magic happens. Knowing how to get the best outta the machine with the software makes a huuuuge difference. Machines are pretty dumb, it’s your creative use of the software that makes the difference.

I have the EMT16x, Its a bit more than 4k. Call all the manufactures and play them against each other on price you can shave 2 grand off the price by doing that.

The reason I like the Melco is because you can chain the individual machines together. If you are running 4 heads, and 1 thread breaks the other three machines will keep on plugging away. I can't yet speak to the build quality. But I did find lots of users that have been running these machines for years, so I was confident. I hope I made a good decision with Melco, only time will tell.
@@ThePrintLife only seen them at shows and as you say build quailty not the same other brands, but depends on how much you are going to use it for, ours run 8 hrs a day none stop its a realy big learning curve to get it right if you need a hand feel free to ask all the best
We rock three melcos, one of them old as dirt. I’d put the quality up against any Barudan or Tajima and blow the doors off. When we used to sub our work out to Barudan and Tajima shops the work was also sub par compared to our melcos.
