Ok, I'm so glad this showed up in my feed. When you pulled out your roller and used that to pierce your cap wax, I was interested. I shelved those rollers years ago, but now may have to revisit them. I noticed that at one station your daughter is using the roller, but your mother was also using a fork at another station for cap removal. Are you noticing much of a difference in getting more honey out with one method over another? Last question, why would reversing the rotation result in more honey removal? Thank you for sharing, and I still use your excellent hive tools :) Wishing you all the best!
Hey there! This was my first time with the roller and I didn’t mind it, but it did throw wax cappings which did slow down the initial straining process. The fork is slower, but I get cleaner honey! I know that there are a beekeepers that share that I don’t need to reverse the direction, but we find that it does help clear the honey from the cells a little better! Ohhh you should see the next hive tools we have coming out ;) I need to go to the hive conference!
@@TheHoneystead Thank you for the quick response, and yes you should definitely come to the conference in January! You'll be swarmed by fans I'm sure. I'm glad everything is going so well for you and your family :)
So Mr. Dunn how do you uncap now?
"In Germany, the cover on the honey extractor is made of 'Plexiglas,' so it's transparent. You might consider replacing it so that you can see what's happening inside the honey extractor even when the cover is closed."
"The larger the diameter of the honey extractor, the less it wobbles. My old honey extractor had a diameter of 75 cm (29.5 inches), while the new one has a diameter of 90 cm (35.4 inches). It's incredible how smoothly this honey extractor rotates. I can place 42 honey frames (Dadant US) inside."

Nice harvest of honey. We bought an 18 frame extractor last year. Sure glad my wife talked me into the bigger one. How many colonies do you have? I'm at 41 right now.
I am grateful and feel blessed to have you and your family share your experiences and skills with us. I could watch your videos all day and everday...such a gift. Thankyou Honestead family!
Great video! If you let the extractor spin on a lower speed for a few minutes and gradually increase the speed, it will help to better balance it before spinning it up to a faster / fastest speed.
This is what marriages are about real love and union 🙏❤️☮️
Do! Not! Change direction until the motor has stopped. You will burn up the motor.
Wow very interesting my neice has a honey bee operation in Nova Scotia, she has about 15 bee hives and expanding every year, I'm sharing your video with her I'm sure she will learn something from it
If you slice caps off you’ll have a more balanced load for the extractor. By having different levels of cells on the frames, it is hard to properly balance. Think of throwing a weight off of a tire. Small amounts make a huge impact.
I really love to see this makes it more real , so happy for you all 🙏❤️☮️best wishes
Fantastic video! Very informative and helpful!
You may want it to stop spinning before changing direction on the motor….
Fast house up you shipping containers I've used the shedding I just had to put wood up inside quickway
I'm at 25 colonies and have been up to 50. Our place is not near as fancy as yours. You have a fine apiary and work place. Mine's on a hillside I call th stump garden. And, I do have another on flat land in a pine forest. We got a 12 frame extractor last year. Works nice but, if I had more colonies I'd need a bigger extractor. I bought a Woodmizer hydraulic mill in 1995 and sold it in 2006. Still have lumber laying around. Fun watching you make splits and talking about your turkey. Don't get too many bees ahead of yourself. They can multiply really fast and decline in about the same time if you get ahead of yourself. Not fun to lose 20 colonies. Yes, I did that last winter.
Huh, I don't know about the left/right thing...I thought the whole point of a radial was that you don't have to flip frames, even if it only goes one direction.......I mean, I just have a 4 frame tangential so I'm flipping frames regardless........But it's interesting.....
Thank you for sharing. Gd bless you all. Shalom
What are the white buckets with the honey gate on them? And what brand is your extractor? If you don’t mind sharpening
That was a very informative video. Enjoyed it very much. I make one suggestion for your new shop. You need music. Install some music so you can dance and move around to good tunes while you work, makes the job much easier.😉
Bravo za damu pčelara, prelijepo i organizovano, svaka čas😀❤️👍
Beautiful coloured honey
Mornings are a Splendid!
Great video ❤. Looks like a lot of work 😮. Thank goodness you have Help❤️🩹🐝😀, I love Honey 🍯,
Feels peaceful.
Have you did freeze dryer honey? If so do you have a video?
Good work and looking lovely lady 🌷
Such a cute video ! 🧡🐶
Ooo😊🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🇩🇿🇩🇿🇩🇿🇩🇿 good 👋
Nice,
Hello from the Russia 👍 ❤❤❤❤
What is the brand name of the honey extractor?
I'm ready to buy tell me when.
What brand of extractor is this?
Where are you guys located? What part of the country?
Are you going to the Kentucky conference
Why do they put that huge extractor on four spindly legs?
The “boy’s” helped too.

Thank you for sharing , love your videos and love the new barn! One great tip my mentor told me is don't put spouts on all the buckets. They can get knocked and/or just leak. Plus it's an added unnecessary expense. Better to just have it on a few. A couple of days before bottling transfer the honey to a spout bucket. Then just keep filling up that 'bottling bucket' as needed and let it settle a day. The bubbles and wax stay at the top. Or, for bigger operations like yours, have a dedicated stainless steel honey bottling tank with a no drip filling spout.
We just harvested our first run of honey, and thought we did good with 8-9 quarts! All without an extractor!! 😂 Next, learning how to render the wax!!🥴
You are such a wonderful bee keeper. I can only imagine how lovely that honey is. When things are done with such care and done well, the end product is always so much better. I am so happy for you!
❤
Starting out at a slow speed for minutes and increasing every 5 minutes will allow the fuller frames to shed more honey and helps balance
My mother used to take us out on the front porch in the summer when we were like 3 1/2 4-1/2. Years old and pray with us and she called it “touching the morning”. Fond memories. !!
We harvested 475lbs from our 6 colonies! That was a huge harvest for just 6 colonies. Our 14 from last year didn't do that well.

What kind of extractor do you have. Bees really connect be to nature. Morning is my favorite time to visit my bees while they are still sleeping. I have a hammock near mine.
I love how respectful and one you are with nature. I love to enjoy what nature provides right at the tips of our very fingers ❤
Look at all that honey 🍯 love the new machine
Best honey year in Western Montana in awhile...three days of rain this week and the spotted knapweed bloom is blowing up....
I love to have my tea in the morning outside on my porch, watching the hummingbirds, the birds singing, chipmunks and squirrels running around and my bunny, Miss Brownie, coming to say good morning to me! I love your channel and you have been a huge influence on my beginner apothecary that I have been working on diligently for the last 2 1/2 months. Blessings from Maine
im begineer, in this year im harvested some honey from my 2 beehives, it was great. Good luck to all the beekeepers
You do know honey losses it's minerals and nutrients and enzymes when honey is heated and filtered right. Do your research, so you can produce a better quality of honey and healthier honey for the immune system. Pure raw wild honey is what helps your body.
I am 100% aware of the benefits of Raw honey as we do not heat or filter our honey!
Just a thought, I see you have your freezer on an uninsulated outside wall. That is a bad idea. Don't ask me how I know.😁
Bet I can guess how you know. Bahahaha. Laughing with you not At you. We so learn best by our failures dint we. Retired school teacher n I used to tell my students we are doing it backwards because Im teaching lessons so you can take a test. But life gives you a test to teach you lessons.
So nice
Hi again! My two cents... In order to prevent much wiggling(wobbling) try to put frames with same amount of honey on opposite sides. I have similar extractor for 20 deep frames and I always try to balance before I put it to work. It saves me lots of energy for "holding it down". :)
Great idea! Thank you!
Good morning, how are you? We have had little honey this year. And how were you?
Где мёд блИядЪ
You are a beautiful woman !
I love the honey extraction, but.. where do you get your pretty dresses? I can't find nice dresses anywhere. The stuff in the stores is just so ugly!! You always seem to wear such pretty dresses.
Put sand bags or other weights on your stand to weigh it down, and start spinning slow and increase every couple of minutes. Stop when it start to wobble and let it spin for 2-4 minutes and then you can increase a little more. To speed things up, you are going to find the double sieve plugs up too fast. Take a 5 gallon pail and drill a large hole on the bottom on the side. Put a cone of window screen over the top of the pail going close to the bottom of the pail. Then dump the in the screened pail to catch the large bits of wax and then strain it as it comes out. You get more time out of your strainer before having to clean it.
Great video informative learned some things I knew nothing about loved it. You’re talking about bolting the spinner to the floor I can understand why, but would like to make a suggestion. My recommendation would be to get a heavy duty reinforced pallet. Pour a concrete slab on top of the pallet then tile it. With it being bolted to a concrete slab on a heavy pallet, you will be able to move it around the shop no problem it will be solid and not go anywhere and if you have to transport it, you pick it up with a forklift and go. With it being tiled, it will be easy to clean any spills and messes also being able to move it around the shop, you’ll be able to clean all the areas behind it with much more ease. And if the layout of your shop changes in the future, it will be no big deal moving in around. It’s just something I would probably do.
You would do well to buy a new or used honey tank to let the wax rise to the top and then run through a double sieve. It would involve pouring partial buckets into the tank, but it will greatly reduce the time to filter without having to constantly clean the sieve.
I started my hive late in the season and I've quit mowing my field so they could have the clover. I'm hoping they pig out on the Golden Rod that will be in bloom soon. I probably won't harvest at all this year, but hopefully next year will be bountiful. Probably not 1k pounds though! Love your videos, keep it up!
I am happy you had a great flow this year. I love the new equipment and cannot wait to see the straw machine in action. Take care.
Thank you for sharing.. I watched a video yesterday in Australia they have hives that have funnels you don't have to interrupt the bees! Chris Evans is involved! Love watching your video's Men are always so busy doing the stuff men do glad we have different roles.. echinachia flowers are pretty as well behind you.. sounds beautiful! That makes so much sense they work so hard.. music is nice and relaxing!
Y'all are just incredible. I really appreciate how you care for the bees. You show how it's supposed to be done. Very interesting to see how you process the product. And how clean your new room is. So far. Can't wait to see the progress. God bless!
I’m confused. I thought the queen was the only female in the hive
You are honey. ...
Not sure if anyone else has mentioned it yet, but you may want to put 2x4's or pieces of plywood in between the buckets so that all of the weight isn't on the center of the lids.
While I've never had a problem with it (because I don't do it), I have heard of some that have.
Nice harvest!
Thank you! I ended up unstacking them to be safe!
🐝 Thank you for sharing ✌️💞🤟
The centripetal force of the honey extractor is expelling, the honey out of the honey comb on to the sides of the wall which drips down to the honey gate.
Super excited! We are getting a full hive soon. Our first 2 nucs left :( You live and learn. Ya'll have a blessed day and thank you for all of your wisdom ❤
Awesome harvest!!! Thanks for sharing!!!
Is thier a way I can buy honey from you
One of my favorite things when I visit my remote cabin, is sitting on the porch in the mornings and listen and watching how alive the wooded site becomes. To bad it is 8 hours to get to it.
Its one of the less effective method of cutting bee-cells
What a beautiful harvest. Congratulations! 🎉
You should never run it at high speeds until 65% of honey has extracted then increase speed .
Do you leave any for the bees?
I never understood why beekeepers take all the honey then feed sugar water n not leave enough honey for bees to get through a winter. Then shocked that their bees die or dint do well. Thank you for being a responsible bee keeper.
Once bees enough honey to last the winter in the top box smaller boxes called supers are added and that’s what is harvested. Beekeepers save enough frames that the bees might need. Then they add sugar bricks just in case bees need more. First year of the colony usually you don’t even take that honey to ensure the bees have enough. The biggest culprit of a hive not lasting the winter is not lack of food but it is mites which is a big challenge to keep under control. Many huge commercial growers simply kill their bees and harvest all the honey. You should rag on them and be grateful for the backyard beekeepers who provide pollination for your food you eat. I’m in my third year and only this year that I will make any kind of profit. You should also get educated.
@@peppershake414 thank you for the information. We always had bees growing up and I have cared for and harvested my fair share of honey. Thats why I made the comment. Not all backyard beekeepers are as kind to their bees as you and I. We have struggled with mites, beatles, moths and robbers. We have supplemented our bees with sugar water. Key word is supplemented. Watch utube and you will see lots of people taking all the honey and not many supers on the hives. And out come the “Jars” of sugar water. It’s disgraceful. This channel is great and “honey” I am educated.
@@venidamcdaniel1913 lol. Honey. I probably jumped the gun and didn’t thoroughly read your post. I’m probably naïve in thinking that most backyard beekeepers are kind beekeepers and don’t feed bees sugar water for honey.
@@peppershake414 shocked me for sure and they are not even “educated” enough to know what they are doing is wrong. In their defense. I am sure they are new to homesteading and beekeeping so there is a lot to learn but Geez!!!!!!! Do they do things differently in the south since bees can still forage some?
Ours were totally in the hive from mid November to sometime in March. Have to watch for an unseasonably half way sunny warm day to even check on them.
I can tell your relationship with your bees is very special. Thanks for sharing that.
Where ar u located and how do we sign up for classes?
you are such a precious soul, love what you are doing and how you do live so in harmony with nature
I met her in person luckily at the homestead festival and just felt like I had known her for years! 💚
@@ForOurLegacyHomestead this must have been a precious moment ❤
How’d you like that needle roller? We love ours. Great tool.
Where did you get your honey totes?
incredible, looks thicker than mine and darker,...how many supers was there
it was over nine thousand supers
You have a great operation!! Bees and honey production is so miraculous. One of Gods gifts!
you remind yourself you love him 3 x a day
Having a saw mill to cut up just what you need is so nice. My husband has a Woodmizer too. Having a lumber pile on hand is great for building everything that is needed for a homestead ❤
Great looking video - fun to watch people who love beekeeping and share their journey.
Keep it up!!
🤣watch out for throwing honey filled straws around the room, I look forward to the machine demo. I have been on the look out for a good straw machine. Do you have a link to their info or did I miss it someplace?
Thank you so much for taking us into your harvesting process! Although I am not planning on being a bee keeper, I do enjoy learning about them. Thank you for providing insight and knowledge about their world! 💛🐝🍯
Very fun to watch and learn. Thank you!
I stopped pulling honey August 1 st 2023 THEN began Oxalic Acid fogging the first round, then fog again 14 days later because more bees emerge with mites on them. It from all the full buckets and 1 pound containers filled already we might get over 1,500 pounds. Just got 1,000 pounds last year.. That is only a drop in the bucket compared the the Canadian bee keeper Bob Binie in Georgia. I'm wanting to slow down and sell half my bees. With 12 helpers my bees out ran all of us this year.
… without the “Drones” there would be no girls.
Ive always wondered. How much honey do you leave for the bees to survive on their own? Do they always make way to much so we can use it?
Four generations of remarkable women! ❤
I understand you are only the face of the company. great. you sell those jugs. the man is the worker and the brains
It's totally my anxiety speaking, but seeing your mum put her fingers SO CLOSE to the machine spinning several times had my blood pressure spike ahah! Stay safe
waking up in the morning with nature is the one of most beautiful things in life❤❤❤
I feel the love in your voice while you’re sitting in your garden. It’s so heart warming 🫶🏽
Don’t use the screen on the bucket after the bucket fills in time all the wax and lighter stuff will rise up to the top you want raw unfiltered honey all the wax and 🐝 wings and such will show it’s raw and real .
Wow! God is good ❤
