Hive tool cleaning, use rubbing alcohol, it works great! No hard scrubbing, just put some alcohol on the tool and use another tool to just scrape it off! Done, super easy! Try it out if you haven't!
your videos are some of my favorite how you talk about herbs and bees and what you do is vert motivating and inspiring alot of what you do is what im wolring on doing and i love books so im super excited youll have that im slowly building a collection of herbal books and bee books so i can learn more about bees wich im hoping i can have soon.
My bees were like this a couple weeks ago. I was told it's because it's July. This was normal for July. Is there really 70,000 bees in the hive this time of year? That's crazy!! Mine were not happy when I checked on them. I have been giving them water on my back porch for about a month now!! Boy do they love to explore. I love them so much. Just to have them around.
This was such a real, raw beekeeping video and I'm SO here for it! Sometimes the gentle girls wake up on the wrong side of the bed and surprise you with sass. 😂❤
When you pulled that honey filled frame I could hear the change in the sound. After watching your videos I know what to listen for. I am grateful because since I am allergic to wasp stings (never been stung by a European honeybee) I am no longer afraid of honeybees. Respectful, yes, but not afraid.
Have never heard of throwing a wet towel/sheet over the hive to calm down the robbing. I really enjoyed watching you calmly deal with the different situations. Thanks for taking the time to video your real day!
We don’t keep bees, but wouldn’t mind planting flowers for them. What would be some of the best (no maintenance) kinds of flowers to plant? On 2 acres of our property, it would be beautiful to see flowers growing….instead of my 69yr old husband mowing in the hot sun for 2hrs! Weigh the differences, now I’ll have to get him on my side…the flowers would also benefit the hummingbirds around here.🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝
I don't keep bees either, yet. But I try to plant a many flowers as I can! I try to go for the perennials. Less expensive over time and less maintenance! I also plant flowers that bloom at different times of the year. Hope that helps! Many blissings! 💛
I remember that Video. It was very cool. It was one of many that inspired "The Hive" poem I wrote for you. Love the Bees and love watching your videos. 🤗🤗🐝🐝🍯🍯 The Magnolia Hive is kicking it. That full frame was very cool.😎😎😁😁
Didn't you all start work on a new bee yard or an expansion, thought I remembered you saying something about moving the girls? 😯Looks at that beautiful frame of fresh capped honey.🥰Them is farm girl 💪muscles.😅 If you make/design a mini-hive tool I'll buy 1 or 10.🤣
Wow! Sure gives one something to ponder when eating local honey! That was very interesting to watch and love the way you talk to your "girls" as you're working. 💜
This video was so interesting to me! We had parrots for years and did a lot of rescue. When one got freaked out we’d always put a large towel or sheet over them to calm them. I was interested to see you do the same with hives! I was always afraid of bees until I started watching your videos and now wish I was younger and could keep bee’s myself! I need to look up local bee keepers! (I’m west of Richmond VA). Good job bee Momma! ❤️
I’m 74, and while I have to do things a little different from some beekeepers, I will keep bees until I absolutely can’t do so. Best hobby I’ve ever had.
I am a hobby beekeeper and i love it, but unfortunately will have to sell my bees due to my back can no longer handle the heavy honey filled boxes. Even using shallows its still too much. At 58 and solo farming, i dont have much of a choice but to let it go. :( So my advice from one farmgirl to another… please take care of your back my dear. 👩🏻🌾😊🐝🍯
This was awesome to see... we've just been given our 1st beehive and no bees yet... myy doc will be giving me my 1st nuc in the spring... sooo we are learning and getting ready for our girls to come. Thank you for sharing Blessings ❤
I may be in touch with you next spring/summer for possibly getting a starter brood from that wild hive, if possible. I am so concerned about getting good natured bees to start with!! So informative, I appreciate your sharing with all of us!! Blessings!!
I had a hive get a little out of control when I was harvesting honey recently. When reviewing the video, I realized I must have crushed a bee, setting off the alarm pheromone--they were a little testy to begin with, but there was a distinct moment when they started dinging me and the camera. Thankfully no robbing, though! Robbing can be such a hectic situation!
@@happy_times01 Honeybee robbing occurs when bees from one colony attempt to steal honey, pollen, or other resources from another colony. It typically happens when food sources become scarce, such as during times of dearth or when weaker colonies are unable to defend their hives effectively. Robbing behavior can lead to significant disruption, stress, and damage to the affected colonies if not addressed promptly. Here's a video of one of my hives getting robbed. ruclips.net/user/shortsnyFMGMtgTiU?si=Kjn23cDmen1dOy8U
I don't know much about raising bee's, we used to find big native honey bee hives but not anymore. Very cool how you get to know each colony like that.
I live in what some people would call an inner city neighborhood and get big fat bumblebees all the time. I'm not sure where they're staying but I know it's close. It turns out I get more pollinators than my friends who live on the edge of the city. I think the reason is that none of my neighbors use herbicides or pesticides
I would be interested in watching you pull honey. How do you treat your hives for mites? How often do you check for mites? Thanks for sharing your bee inspection video.
Great questions! I’ll be starting my mite counts after the honey harvest. I prefer to treat mechanically by allowing brood breaks, but if the counts are high then I have used OA. I have an experiment that I will starting next year with out new apiary!
I think you had robber bees on that frame you took out. When you went to put it back it was covered an inch and a half deep in bees that you then put into the box and the bee activity has increased outside the box. Your queen has an awesome laying pattern!
What you mean you are not a in🩳's beekeeper?🤨 I see beekeepers working in shorts and it 🤯's my mind.🥴 I might get stung in the hands a lot for not wearing gloves but🩳's.🤣Have a great weekend with your family Kaylee. Blessed Days...
I subscribed to your channel for the foraging and medicinal information. But honeybees are fascinating to me, since I have been stung so many times by various bees and hornets. It's good to know your "enemy"!
Have you looked in to the horizontal hives? I was thinking about them because of the weight of the boxes. I am 62 and thinking it would be a lot easier for me. I found out about them on You Tube channel. (Off grid with Doug and Stacy.)
Since I started watching your channel a couple of weeks ago and you're always talking about your "girls" I learned a fun fact from you - that honeybees (the workers and Queen) are all female.
I've always wondered when you move things around in a hive, no matter how careful you are, that when you inadvertently squish a bee wouldn't it really stir them up? I live in a city and am kind of thinking about getting a hive, but it seems things can get out of control in a hurry if you don't know what you're doing. Always learn something from your videos. Thanks
Lost 20 hives in hurricane Matthew. Never was able to afford to replace. have one hive left that is my original black Russians. Very aggressive, but they haven't been gone into since before the hurricane. Physically can't move the longstroth anymore so looking to try horizontal hives next year.
Oh I’m so sorry!!!! I would definitely try working at a horizontal. I have a langstroth long colony that is great because it’s interchangeable with traditional langstroth frames.
what kind of boots do you find are comfortable and seal well with your bee suit? the boots I have are pretty flimsy and bees seem to be able to get into the crevices.
I’m late to the party on this video - but I’ve just noticed you only go 1 deep brood box not 2 - can you tell why? I’m getting a new hive going and ready for 2nd deep brood box - now wondering if I should just add a honey super…..?
That hive needs a second deep or you’re gonna see them in a tree . With that many bees in the bottom box it will not take them long to fill out a top deep .
Question for you: Have you ever dropped a frame!? If so, what do you do?! (Sorry that this question pops into my head every time I watch these while biting my nails and praying at the same time!?) 😆🙏🏼🤍
Your bee videos are my favorites. Thank you.
glad to see you back wearing beekeeper suit!..

This was so cool! My grandmother was a bee keeper. I was very young, but I wasn't allowed by the hives. Thank you!
I would need the whole getup! Unless I want to look like a cabbage patch doll!
Thank you for sharing ✌️💞🤟

Wonderful Video. I can see that you use Dadant products. I use Dadant as well. Best Wished. Please keep up your Good Work.

I keep thinking you will squish or accidentally cut a bee in half with that tool! I am assuming there are usually small casualties though 🤔
Or when she puts the box back on! I would be so afraid of squishing them!
Happy to see a bee video, woo hoo!
More to come!🐝

Hi! Do you have a different approach towards this bee genetics, when it comes to 'treatment' ?
25 years no care from any human whatsoever, was it ?

Ty. Do you sell your honey? I'd like to buy some. If so.... Please send me a link for that as it wasn't on your link that you show on your videos.
Is there a link I can order honey or honey comb through?
Do you guys ever end up with very dark colored bees like the old German black bees?
Why no smoke?
