Glad you finally got to review it, Ben! I picked mine up about 3 weeks ago - loving it. The steering is what everyone talks about, but being a Wrangler and LC 200 owner, I think your baseline is more on target. If you expect SUV steering, then you’ll be frustrated - if you expect true utility 4x4 steering and handling, this feels shockingly good. On the build quality, you said it was surprising given the fact that Ineos is new to automotive. It would be good to educate people about their approach - Magna Steyr engineered it, it uses the best components and suppliers on the market, and the production site in Hambach was purchased outright from Mercedes Benz - including their awesome production, assembly and QA team. Ineos just skipped the entire learning curve / break in period - and you can absolutely see and feel it. That’s what you’re paying for and why the price is what it is - quality and engineering that most companies no longer deliver. It is a street legal tank.
It's basically a kit car, but with very few of the drawbacks. They've picked some of the best components around. Brilliant decision to have Magna do the heavy lifting and ensure quality production. There will be some issues though as with any new product.
They just know that Americans always forget what country they're in so it's important to be reminded everywhere they go e.g. on the side of American football helmets is a good one 😂
I absolutely love this SUV. Had I won the Mega-Millions lottery, this would be my first purchase. Not a G-wagon, not a McLaren, but this. So cool on so many levels!
I really like the blend of tech and traditional - those chunky buttons are so cool. They really nailed the future-primitive vibe. And as a former Wrangler and current 4Runner owner I completely agree about the tank-like feel and the confidence it gives in most driving situations, as well as the importance of solid fit and finish in terms of owner perceptions of quality, durability, and reliability.
I’m a Jeep guy! First car 1980 CJ. 1999 Jeep TJ, the only car to date I regret selling. 2016 JKU Rubicon. 2019 Jeep JLU Rubicon 2.0. I have two 200 series Land Cruisers, 2013 and 2021. All are and have been highly modified. Did not preorder, wanted to see and feel Ineos first. Picked up off the lot 8 days ago a Grenadier Trialmaster. 20 MPG around town 19 HWY+-. Drives better quieter faster better MPG than any of my Jeeps. Wrangler on 37’s it is not but a Wrangler on 37’s done right is $70K minimum. Smooth like the V8 Toyota, no. But it’s not $90K + unobtanium now. But for what it is it is awesome! Literally the perfect truck except for range and worth every penny. If you pay more than $77,000 you have too much useless crap. But value will, ultimately be determined by reliability and longevity but considering everything I’m willing to take a chance. Will not Modify because there is no need.
Grenadier is one of your best car. A specialized offroad buddy that has the feel and core of a Defender, BMW engine, def locks making you think you fly the thing, peculiar cockpit safari windows... blows my mind how you can easily load it with any off-roading gear. I feel why you love it.
Had a chance to test drive a pre production prototype last year and loved every minute of it. It felt like you could ride all day on rough roads without feeling beat up afterwards. Very high build quality like you would expect from something like a BMW. Built like a tank in a good way.
Just saw one a few weeks ago on 241 north bound. For a second I thought it was a mod G wagon. My G63 was rear endend by a truck 2 weeks ago and is now in a body shop waiting for its frame part from Germany. This ineos looks really interesting and I am thinking about getting this one next time. Thanks for the video.
I got to see a couple of them at the Overland expo in Pomona California in March. I really fell in love the authenticity of it. The new Defender is too ostentatious and in LA., too much of mall crawler. My bro has an old Defender and this really captures that spirit.
Hey, look, a new Land Rover Defender....well, what it should have been anyway. I think my only disappointment is the lack of a manual transmission. Otherwise, I really like everything about it. The aircraft-style controls on the interior are awesome!! Can't wait to see one of these in the wild and get a personal look at it. The price is kind of a bummer, but I've seen Wranglers going for about that much, too, and I'd rather have this!!
Great looking Ride! I was thinking of the Lexus 550 but now I’m going with a Grenadier instead. Front, center and rear lockers - I’m driving this Bad Boy to Hell and back.
I live in Houston, and I’ve test driven 2 of these now and they are Awsome! Just too expensive for what it is, the base should be almost 20k cheaper. I would love to buy one though.
Ben, great video as always!!! there will be an opportunity to take it for a full off-road test!!! and also do a review of this car on portal axles from Le Tech!!!
Ben, thanks for talking about the steering. Honestly I'd take even more information on it. Particularly compared to the Wrangler and Gladiator, at least those are my frame of reference for solid axle steering. And the way I've heard some talk about it... it left me thinking the Grenadier was actually worse than those. But you make it sound like its very comparable. As a Gladiator owner I am genuinely curious about the Grenadier. I love its size. The solid axles, lockers and general design exterior. I'm a bit hesitant about some of the interior choices (speedo location for instance). And well... service. The nearest dealer is 8 hours away from me (and yes a BMW dealer is closer by but there's more to this than just the engine and trans). And yes I do legitimately think they should have offered at least a 35" tire from factory.
Cool new design and I like the more rugged industrial look. It seems like it is really loud inside (you can hear a lot of street noise while driving). A few different ideas, but I don't know if it's really 90k cool? For half the price it would be a great off-road contester, but with 90k you are in Raptor Range, TRX, Range Rover, Land Rover. I would think people will buy it to have something different than their neighbors, but for me there is no real 90k value in it.
I traded in my Bronco Wildtrak for my Grenadier TrialMaster in Queens Red, like this one. Sorry, Ford fans but the Grenadier feels so much more substantial. It’s on the same level as my Land Cruisers and LX’s, maybe better. Remember, this is the same motor that Toyota chose for the Supra. Any hesitation I had about buying a British, French, German made car was eased by the Toyota endorsement of the E86 engine. If it’s anywhere near reliable as my LX’s - both were still running past 300,000 miles either nothing other than regular maintenance - the Grenadier will be hard to beat on or off-road. It’s as solid as a rock. I feel like it’s well worth +$80K. I love it.
Nice review Ben we need to get you out on the trail. We go out a couple times a month and put these grenadier to the test. You should certainly join us sometime. 👍🏻👍🏻
Cool! Doug DeMuro just reviewed the Trialmaster version. Thanks Ben! Great review!! BTW, I saw these coming off the ship out here and was looking forward to some reviews. For accessories, how about the LED Light bar, the tailgate table, and the integrated heavy duty winch, if they have any of these so equipped.
As the owner of a 540i with the same power train, I can say that it is truly an amazing motor but with plastic parts used in everything, I literally had to replace my $4,000 radiator because I left it out over night and it cracked because of the cold. Literally sitting in my driveway. I know jeeps have spotty reliability and build quality but this thing is no Toyota
Nice! Queen's Red, the rarest of all colors - and a seriously optioned one at that. There are a lot of compares out there, but curious your opinion, since this is close to $90K, this or a Jeep 392?
I love TFL, but sometimes, like many other car reviewers, they expect perfection. Ex: The Grenadier should drive like a 911 GT3, have the space of a full size van, get 65 mpg, AND have a ground clearance of 16 inches!........SMH..........I think INEOS nailed it. They wanted to make an offroader that could compete with the best and it seems they did. Now lets wait for reliability results. But if it is as well built as it seems, this is going to eat many other 4x4 manufacturers' breakfasts!!
The difference in the steering isn’t the solid front axle. The Grenadier uses the more stout recirculating ball vs the steering rack and pinion design on Wranglers, Broncos, etc., Anyone that has ever experienced the Jeep death wobble at speed on the highway will love the Grenadier. It’s a little more focused - and the turning radius is a joke - but it doesn’t auto-steer when you air down and hit rocks like you feel in stock Jeeps.
The manufacture does not, or rather will not share a technical service manual for this vehicle. Absolutely ridiculous that this cannot be acquired by owners of such a vehicle. Was ready to order one but have decided against since the manufacturer apparently does not wish owners to be able to service their own vehicle.
This is a great new vehicle design but is not a direct competitor to the Jeep Wrangler due to the style of the vehicle more closely resembling a true overlander such as a Land Rover, or some Toyota products. The Wrangler was never meant for overlanding although it is a flexible enough platform that people routinely outfit them for that purpose. Wranglers have removable doors, tops, folding windshields, a smaller cargo capacity, and footprint. They are infinitely customizable from mall cruiser to dedicated rock crawler. Nothing to worry about Jeep lovers.
i was close to buy one , then i tested it and i'm surprised that no one is talking about the loose steering ? for that price this is a clear no go for me . i do not understand that even no one is talking about this major flaw in that car . ( and a surprising one to be honest as it is not difficult to fix , but ineos seems to do like this do not exist ). And i respectfully disagree that it do not make sense for offroading . I had Land rover discovery with exceptionnal offroad capacities and the steering is ok .
Lots of neat stuff here... The little boy and his spaceship adventurer as an adult lol with all the buttons and switches. Not loving no clusters that was bugging me a bit. Like the dual sunroofs that was fun as well hand in hand with the spaceship. Price ugghhhhh. Something this new and pricey with much more vehicle out there for the money I could never play the game. Good if you are rich with nothing to lose and want to have a fun new toy though. Loving the uniqueness, they are going for wish more would play the game at a lower price for a daily driver.
The price is only so high since they buy parts from other companies. BMW power train, BMW electronics, recaro seats , and imagine what else. That definitely increases the price. Also from the parts they chose , they definitely are targeting wealthier people.
The fact that consumers need a vehicle like this to be a "daily driver" says it all. The perfect vehicle to tackle mall parking lots as a pavement queen. It's all about image I suppose
The “pavement” here in Missouri is about as off-road as you can get, complete with potholes you can bury large dogs in. I’m on gravel/dirt, as is much of the state, and it’s somewhat better than the regional highways. The parking garage where my husband works is loosing its ceiling and there is not enough parking for staff. Hate to buy anything since it will be beat up.
Yes - that’s the standard on the base config or the Trialmaster. You get leather with the Fieldmaster or by adding the “smooth pack” bundle, which also includes heated seats.
Why do these manufactures put the recovery hooks so low? If you have the vehicle buried, how are you supposed to get to them. My h3 has them nice and high. Plus mine is an alpha with more power than this thing. And front and rear locking diffs as well.
There are so many reasons it’s not. The Grenadier is cool, but it’s designed for hardcore but built for British greenlanes. It needs a number of mods, which given that it is brand new vehicle in limited numbers, I’m not sure how quickly they will be coming. For example, right now, the only winch that fits you have to buy from Ineos- as a $5,000 option. Anyone who has ever put an aftermarket winch and bumper on a Jeep knows how ridiculous that is. And a limited dealer and repair network and limited availability of parts- nah, Jeep’s not screwed. Likely to take more Bronco buyers than Jeep- they’re the typical have to have the hottest thing crowd.
Yeah it doesn’t look like they got the drag link the right length to center the steering wheel. The toe settings could also be out but certainly it all should be re-checked as you never really know how the vehicle was handled or strapped down for shipment.
I see the point of saying it’s a Jeep killer, but for this much money I’d buy a 2024 gx550 or the new Land Cruiser over both Jeep and this. Btw I own a gladiator and I got that for 40k. I would never pay double for this.
My independent mechanic shrieked like a pre-teen Taylor Swift fan girl when he looked underneath - it’s that overbuilt. I believe you have to opt for the safari windows and half rack if you want the roof-mounted machine guns on the online configuration. Please send a pic when you take delivery.
How can Jeep be screwed ? It's got a BMW drive Train. Great looking vehicle BUT as with the Toyota Supra, it has a BMW power train. I was waiting for years to purchase a Supra yet my wait was for nothing. Even my Toyota Mechanics say that drive train is Unfortunately typical BMW. Looks a awesome though so while it sits in the service bay it'll look great.
Salesperson: “It’s subpar, odd, awkward, and the electronics are super slow. But that type of uniqueness is what you’re paying for!” Me: “f*** off.” No. No. No. never. Lame.
To be fair, Ben, some of the parts are customized - like the Tremec transfer case - to their specific engineering spec. They’re Bilstein dampers and Eibach springs but I don’t know if those are customized. I think the Brembo brakes are stock. Anyhow, it is a concern for owners, and we haven’t seen a full plan on a supplemental service network (there are less than 20 dealers in the US). The BMW dealers in my town already said they weren’t planning to service the engine - so it’s not a “no worries” situation, but you’re right, MOST of what has to be serviced is from rock-solid industry standard suppliers, so none of us are really laying awake at night worrying about it. And I’ve heard some stories from early launch markets like Australia and Africa where INEOS just had parts air shipped to the customer at their location. They know this will probably be the #1 concern for prospective customers, so they are bending over backwards to get it right. There were some issues over the last few months for dealer-installed accessories (light bar, side runners, hitches, etc) but those seem to be smoothing out quite a bit over the last 90 days. We’re all learning as we go, including the dealers, but we all try to help each other out on the owners’ forum online. It’s a very active and helpful community. Keep in mind this thing has been tested to hell and back again - I even personally got to test out prototypes off-road, and meet with the global heads of marketing and R&D. Ineos have been super engaged with the off-road community and tried to do this in a really transparent and open way. I’ve launched a lot of complex technology solutions - these guys get a B+ / A- from me on release management, which is INSANELY good.
@@BenHardyCars I mean in the 90k price range whats a few thousand? Is the value really all there to justify it coming close? Im not trying to hate I just think it's probably more at home competing with a loaded Rubicon or Wildtrak
@@BenHardyCarsI’m with Ben on this - you have more real-world capability (room, payload, towing), a lot more quality, and you pay less. And it’s frankly cooler and less goofy than the Raptor or 392, which are awesome for giggles and exhibition rock crawling, but probably not the uniquiver we want out in the wild. But I kind of think it’s not the same buyer, and is going to remain low volume, so not sure Jeep has much to worry about. In any case, they seem to be more focused on trying to convince us to buy $110k mom buses with a bunch of chrome.
I do understand this is sort of off road car but for 80k I will expect electric seats, push button start/stop, better reversing camera, display mirror, and adaptive cruise control. Those things are cheap to made so the price of 80k make no sense what you will get for while buying ineos. They say they build it for off road. RUclips prove that this is ain’t off road car because all the so call off road videos are done on gravel roads or set up parks where ineos telling you where to go. Something like new defender. So much advert saying off road but no videos proving it can off road as we know ….
Hybrid 4, no solid front axle, goodbye to 3 locking diffs, no aux prewiring, 2 inches less clearance, commuter stock wheels and tires, the list goes on. It’s not really a Land Cruiser. It’s a Highlander in a boxy package. The rods and frame on the Grenadier, alone, will put the new LC to shame. I was looking at the new LC and wondering how much I could improve it with a bunch of mods, but just couldn’t justify the compromises. And it would end up costing me about the same with the features I wanted plus mods. I took the Grenadier in to my Toyota dealer to show them why I went that route. They were in shock - “this is so next level - just a different league!” And they’re right - it’s in a different league - more like the LC 200.
Glad you finally got to review it, Ben! I picked mine up about 3 weeks ago - loving it. The American flag on the chassi is funny for a British truck with a German engine assembled in France.
I have an Ineos and it is way better built than my Sequoia/2003 disco and my friend likes it better than his Rubicon
I actually really like it. You are right about it being tank-like in feel. Makes you feel okay with being rough with it compared to other vehicles.

Love it. That one looks like it might need an alignment.
Mine did…they are shipped in from France
Yeah it doesn’t look like they got the drag link the right length to center the steering wheel. The toe settings could also be out but certainly it all should be re-checked as you never really know how the vehicle was handled or strapped down for shipment.
What is the ground clearance?
Is that steering wheel not centered? Looked like the center position was right during the drive…. Other than that very cool!
It is centered
This is my first time hearing about this vehicle, i like it.....the only thing i dont approve of this vehicle is the bmw motor
I see the point of saying it’s a Jeep killer, but for this much money I’d buy a 2024 gx550 or the new Land Cruiser over both Jeep and this. Btw I own a gladiator and I got that for 40k. I would never pay double for this.
What a great SUV, just love it.
i don’t know about $88,000 im getting a new escalade with that money lol
does that say Attitude or Altitude on the screen
Ineos is not a new company, but this is it's first car
This is so much better than anything Ford or Jeep is offering and even at the price, it's a far better value
Didn’t like the look of that fuel range 310 miles on a full tank
Anyone find it strange how the steering wheel is always pointed slightly right
Is it bulletproof? $80K+ should be bulletproof and have installed some machines gun.😅
My independent mechanic shrieked like a pre-teen Taylor Swift fan girl when he looked underneath - it’s that overbuilt. I believe you have to opt for the safari windows and half rack if you want the roof-mounted machine guns on the online configuration. Please send a pic when you take delivery.
I love this vehicle. Are you considering selling your Land Cruiser and getting one of these? 😁
I just bought the lc lol
I know. lol @@BenHardyCars
It's cool four wheel drive I like it I think it's cool
Whats a ineos?
How can Jeep be screwed ? It's got a BMW drive Train. Great looking vehicle BUT as with the Toyota Supra, it has a BMW power train. I was waiting for years to purchase a Supra yet my wait was for nothing. Even my Toyota Mechanics say that drive train is Unfortunately typical BMW. Looks a awesome though so while it sits in the service bay it'll look great.
Nobody actually makes any comments regarding the fact that grenadier's control pannels are intended to mimic aircraft control pannels 😒
Salesperson:
“It’s subpar, odd, awkward, and the electronics are super slow. But that type of uniqueness is what you’re paying for!”
Me: “f*** off.”
No. No. No. never. Lame.
The steering is fine he says while driving on the straightest roads possible making 90 degree turns from a stop😂 alot of these will be flipped quick
how much is it???
Yea, give it 50,000 miles. See how much and accessible repair parts are. Keep is fine. Wrangler and unlimited rubicons blow this brand away.
Meaning, the Center Line
how about parts and service?
Part should be easy since they used a bunch of aftermarket companies
Thumb grips if your off roading ? Ben be saying anything these days
I kinda like this
Somebody was clearly warned to compare them to everything EXCEPT what this obviously looks like - an OG Land Rover Defender. Speak up, sir 😂
Lol
Grenadier popular and respected in Australia, Jeep's are considered overpriced, unreliable and driven by hmmm? Anyways go with the Grenadier
But over a Bronco Raptor or a Wrangler 392..?
Thats a hard sell. I guess we'll see
Those are both more money
Whole thing is defender
7:38 temperature…up to 360°😂😂😂
Medocre for the price of this suv
Why does a British designed French built German truck have an American flag on the side?
15 mpg? I get 16 city 21 Highway in my wrangler LMAO
If Don Lemon gives the thumbs up, who am I to dispute?
I wonder how the reliability will be? I’d probably rather the new toyota landcruiser…🤔👍🏽💯
Turbo 4 cylinder🤮
Dealers in America..Just askinh....This is new to ke.
Juck Feep..
80k though
80k paper weight
God I'm so sick of 80k vehicles
$88K?
Well we know what the price on next year rubicon is gonna be
