20:17 the way I took this line was that the Doc wasn’t telling the audience to not be salty vs debaters, but rather he was telling us (and also Morty) to not be a nihilistic know-it-all who thinks everyone else is below them. Or in other words, to not be a Rick
The funniest thing from a comedic standpoint is Rick vs Doctor is the cruel indifference of the universe vs the indomitable human spirit in matchup form
But that aside the way it blends the curious and good nature of Doctor is really cool. The screaming sun is obviously meant to be obnoxious, but because Doctor sees the value and intrigue in all life he just looks at it with interest and a smile. And how he manages to defeat Rick without throwing any blows directly once is perfectly align with who Doctor is.
And the recontextualization of “I don’t want to go” line is really cool. In the original it was how the 10th Doctor was eluding his past and too scared to move on. But here it’s flipped on it’s head to proclaim with confidence that he isn’t going out. Which is really clever
Overall great review as always man. Getting back into Doctor Who from friends and this episode made me really appreciate all the good touches they threw in.
I don't think he noticed the real rick in the control room, he noticed the lack of parts in the FAKE control room they were tearing him up
There is one episode you can watch if you don't feel like taking on the huge Doctor Who catalog of seasons.
It's called 'Blink." It's an absolute classic. It's creepy, brilliant, and doesn't require you to know much than what you already learned here.
If you wish to start getting into Doctor Who I recommend starting with the modern era with 2005 Series 1 9th Doctor Christopher Eccleston. A great entry point into Doctor Who for anyone who wants to get into Doctor Who. It’s harder to do the classic era as the early season has lost half of its episode so it’s best to start with modern Doctor Who and go from there.

I agree with this! Season 1 gives the doctor an incredible arc and sets up the premise of the whole show very well. The Doctor that you follow for season 1 is Christopher Eccleston, who is the 9th Doctor, or just "9" for short. The show never actually tells you which one he is, so it's worth knowing :)

One thing I still absolutely adore about the fight is how the track crescendos RIGHT as The Doctor's regeneration starts. It's just so well done and it makes me have to resist the urge to squeel with joy any time I hear it.

I did see from both shows only a little years back, but i still really love this Death Battle.
I actually like the name of the track, but mostly because when translated it's called "I'm dead inside, let's go!"
Edit: sorry, the track name is actually called "I am in great pain, let's go!". Still funny

Did you seriously call the final Sonic Screwdriver trick a "Pibby Glitch?" If the Darkness from Learning with Pibby were put in a Death Battle, everyone dies. The Sonic Screwdriver hacked the Portal Gun.
New headcannon, the reason guts is the only one moving in the backround is that wiz and boomstick timestopped the rest so they couldn't interfere with the fight, but they didnt bother with guts because omai wa mou shindeiru.

19:10 for this part, the part where you're supposed to kill the doctor is right before the big flashy lights, not during (at least from what I remember)
As a fan of seasons 1 & 2 of r&m and most of docter who I thought the analysis were great and the end almost got me,and it was hysterical seeing the rick fans in the live chat realize how f****ed rick was. And now it's time for the least controversial episode...
Edit: props to max for being spectacular on this episodes edits and I can't wait till he works on a comic match so we can see how he fairs with the other editors motion panels,and therewolfs track on this is very unique

I think gokuvsuperman 3 is going to really show how much the db team has improved.
I think that they got the doctor's character on point. When this was announced - I was curious how the doc would be portrayed in Death Battle as a pacificist. I was waiting for some time war-era doctor shit, but I was pleasantly surprised that he was being played straight, sort of shows how his pacifism is like a weapon. Best part about this fight is that he doesn't once attack Rick, and yet gives him one of the most brutal deaths in DB history. Someone as egocentric as Rick would not only hate the idea of dying, but absolutely DESPISE the idea of being forgotten. The doctor's greatest strength has always been about using his enemy's weapon against them, and Death Battle conveyed this character trait perfectly.
Might be going too deep into it here - but I am a lifelong Whovian and appreciated the love and care that went into the doctor's character here

I’m glad my mom was a big Doctor Who fan when she was growing up, which helped prep me for this episode. She shows no interest in watching Rick & Morty (I can't say I blame her) but she enjoyed the episode as well.
I'm just gonna say, its so sad this episode was basically overshadoweded by everyone's distaste of the next time, like when this episode has been disccussed the first thing that people always say is "WHY IS GOKU VS SUPERMAN HAPPENING AGAIN". a unwanted episode, overshadowing probably one of the best this season
Morty's voice needed a slightly higher register. Rick's was somewhat passible but has a bit of a Midwestern twang. And they both need to stammer more.

For me, The Doctor's speech is not only the highlight of the episode, but also on of the highlights of the season
While I do enjoy Rick's section where it shows how he sees himself beyond immortals while being a human himself
The contrast with The Doctor fighting for his immortal life just like any of mortal would do is surprisingly inspiring
Really shows you how gods such as him struggle less to show moments of humanity, than Rick Sanchez

It reminds me of Pibby running from the glitchy cartoon characters. She was also just as scared and genuinely frightened, if not more.
The reason for the puddle of blood under Guts is because of how he died in his fight with Dimitri
Oh I knew that, Guts/Dimitri is one of my all-time favorites so there’s no way I would have forgotten lol. I was more so putting words in Chosen Undead and Dragonborn’s mouths.
@@GalacticAttorney I’ll have to look into how Blips and Chitz works, but this makes me think that Dimitri was successful in stopping the demons from getting Gut’s soul. Fingering we see the Death Battle combatants (mostly from season 10, but there’s one from season 8 and another from season 9), if Dimitri wasn’t able to defend Gut’s soul, than neither of them be here. I know I’m thinking way too deep into this and that it’s just meant to be a nice cameo. But I like how I can see it as a small payoff to GutsDimitri. I don’t think Death Battle has any continuity like that though. Dimitri looks exactly like how he did at the end that fight, but apparently he got to take a shower before getting to Blips and Chitz. This tells me that (at least this part) of the fight takes place after Guts/Dimitri. I’m way overthinking this, but the fact that Harley, Jinx, Mikasa, and Blake are there as well is kind off. It seems strange that Death Battle would reference both the first battle of season 9, and a Mikasa Vs. Blake of all fights.

Rick as always runawayed from his issues pretending that they never existed to begin with as a result he has become bitter and angry to the point that he never takes any threat seriously just crude joke and some achohole
The Doctor on the otherhand while they has suffered a lot never forgets the faces they had once had over the years they will will always keep moving on even if the past is painful by saving the universe many times
So what happens when you put a man whos always run away against a alien who will always face their demons well only one of them will truly move on from the past live in the present and strive for a better future
Who decided that letting a time lord who has way more experience and technology that can destroy galaxies and even disable technology with the sonic screwdriver vs a man who has a drinking problem and a family problem sure he might be smart but the doctor has experience more then rick.

Apologies for the correction, the doctor in the episode is the 10th, not the 14th.
It’s a bit of an odd one, because he’s got the *design* of 10, but the entire franchise’s past lore (i.e. up to 14) is taken into account. And the video uses clips of both interchangeably.
@@Quirderph correct, however the doctor used in the animation is the 10th. The sonic screwdriver, the clothes, the tardis design, all of that are that of the 10th doctors, not 14th doctor. For animation sake they used 10, however research wise they took every doctor into account

If you wanna watch Doctor Who, you can start with the modern stuff without much problems. Once you get to the Nameless Child (Basically when the doctor turns into a lady), stop there because thats when the new writers came in and ruined it since they hated the popularity of Dr. Who. Probably really hurt the actor's rep who played the doctor in that season as well considering the huge, huge downturn in viewership thanks to that poor writing.
If you want to watch old Dr. Who, you can, but beware a lot of episodes will be missing.
that's.... sorry, but no. they don't ""hate popularity", they're not only one of the only reasons it managed to last so long in the revival, they've even taken steps to make sure future writers can work with a clean timeline and escape clauses for some of the wilder stuff.
though you are right that it's unfair the actress is blamed for the writer's doing, a lot of the people have taken to personal attacks and deliberate misinformation, often out of spite. it doesn't help that they aren't particulrly even handed when dealing with the writers either. or that representative of the larger viewer base.
