ABOUT ME: Hallo, Servus, and welcome to my channel! My name is Felicia (Feli), I'm 29, and I'm a German living in the USA! I was born and raised in Munich, Germany but have been living in Cincinnati, Ohio off and on since 2016. I first came here for an exchange semester during my undergrad at LMU Munich, then I returned for an internship, and then I got my master's degree in Cincinnati. I was lucky enough to win the Green Card lottery and have been a permanent resident since 2019! In my videos, I talk about cultural differences between America and Germany, things I like and dislike about living here, and other topics I come across in my everyday life in the States. Which style of Lederhosen and Dirndls do you guys like best? 🤔I personally like shorter Dirndls on myself since I'm not very tall but I like the short Lederhosen that end above the knee! 😊

I prefer the short Lederhosen, but I do have the longer, below the knee as well. Being over 2 meters tall, it was not easy to find some that fit me though!! Hemden are even harder to find!! I wish I could go this year, but it will have to wait. Tschuss!

Definetely short Lederhosen if you are in younger age. Long Lederhosen fits for me for older (>50y.) People. I like to wear short Lederhosen with a swiss Edelweiss-Hemd and Converes as shoes, brings a bit modern into it.

Definitely a traditional garment is not some offensive Halloween costume. I’m mostly Scottish ancestry and I have a proper Scottish Kilt. It’s not a dress or some Halloween costume. Always be respectful when wearing a traditional garment of clothing that is a traditional garment of clothing to a region and nationality and ethnic tradition of a group of people.

You can buy tracht in Canada too.
In Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, we have the largest Oktoberfest outside of Munich. The festival is two weeks in October, centered around Canadian Thanksgiving, but we have many shops available for all cultural Bavarian fare all year long.
There are also five traditional German clubs in K-W and they too, can provide tract.

Not wearing a Trachten is totally fine because the Octoberfests in Germany are originally meant for the working class where people could go wearing their work clothes. So people from the country side used to visit the fest in traditional garments.
Lederhosen were very common to be worn at farmer‘s work due to their sturdiness.

Several of our NY platter vereine were extras in the movie "Enchanted" in the Central Park scene. I couldn't get off work. They are in the credits and still get residual checks. Our club's plattlerhosen are from Chiemgau, and are smooth and thinner, allowing for a sharper sound. There is no embroidery on the leg. Even more comfortable to wear. We treat them with beeswax and the get shiny. There is a club in Cleveland. Look up Gauverband Nordamerika.

Not specific to Oktoberfest nor even Munich, but I saw a video about Austria. Before the war, in Austria most Trachten were sold in Jewish-owned stores but Jews were not allowed to wear them. That's why it was a pleasant surprise to see that Muenchners today actually like when foreigners wear authentic Trachten.

In Bavaria too, it was made popular by two German-Jewish shop owners, they were from more North of Germany, but moved to Bavaria and fell in love with the local traditional clothes, so they opened a shop selling them and they became popular. You can also see many German-Jewish people wearing trachten before the war/Nazis came to power. I have family photos like this.

Because the title of your video addresses what _not_ to do in _Oktoberfest,_ and because you didn´t mention this matter therein, I take this to mean we all go to _Oktoberfest_ in October.

Quick question, we’ll be arriving in Munich tomorrow, what’s the best beer tent to go to with a festive atmosphere? Or is it any tent? We dont have reservations, but plan on going there early, how early should we be? 10am ok? Celebrating my son’s 20th birthday and we opted for a father-son Oktoberfest trip!

The earlier you get, the better as far as crowding is concerned; I found that German locals go in the morning for breakfast, and the tourists begin trickling in as the clock advances. Which is the best? I don't know. It depends on which beer you prefer. Of all the times I went to at Wiesn (Oktoberfest), I wanted to go to the Hofbräu tent, because that is my favorite beer. But it was always too crowded to get into. Last time I went to the Löwenbräu tent, and I enjoyed it (the festbier, aka "superlager", or "Oktoberfest beer" was good-it's a lager with more flavor and higher alcohol content, around 6-point-something percent). In fact, I enjoyed every tent I visited (Paulaner, Augustliner, Hacker, etc). In my experience, one tent is as good as another, so like I said, it really depends on which beer you prefer. And although I never ate in any tent (other than a pretzel, sold by dames walking around within the tent), I believe there are variations on the food that is served. So you might want to check that out ahead of time and go to a tent which has the food you want (although it will be similar amongst the tents). There's one tent that serves wine, and it's called Poschner's. The beer there is Hacker-Pschorr (which is good). It's one of the smaller tents. You might not have a problem finding a seat in that one.

My town, Helen Georgia, has the Longest Oktoberfest in the world, which lasts for 2 months.
My Brother works at a coffee shop and this is the busy season for them, and it is a huge revenue generator.
That being said, it isn't as authentic as it is in the Motherland, but it's Americanized.
