    I used to be afraid of death, but I realize now that death is the only reason not to be in a constant state of terror. Life has the potential to be a carnival of horrors, yet I know that no matter how bad it might get, my death will be there to liberate me from it. Truly my greatest friend, in my darkest hour. I also really enjoy how broccoli can be used in so many different cuisines, from all over the world, and yet it somehow always feels like it belongs. Such a versatile vegetable!

    I think growing up as a kid now being gay must be infinitely easier than it use to be. Hell, I'm only 35 and there wasn't a single person in my school who came out as gay. We knew who some of them were, but they didn't exactly advertise it.
    Then there were others who came out later; either in college or after.

      its a little column a column b, back when my uncle was coming out in the 90s homosexuals were “in their place” so the news didnt cover it as much…now good luck finding a single conservative online who hasnt memorized the names of every single trans person on the internet, knows their life story, and doxxes and harasses them constantly. my uncle says he feels bad for me because yes now I have more allies but the people who want to hurt me are 10x as obsessive and violent now. I’m a gay dude who just looks kinda feminine but I’ve had so many people down here in TX give me trouble. I don’t even go out in public as often as I used to its just not worth the hassle

      @@Grethemsky Gotta move my friend. I live on Long Island and people wouldn't even bat an eye at you for being gay, despite the fact that in terms of politics...it's about a 50/50 split.
      I wouldn't suggest moving here though unless you're comfortable spending 60% more than the national average on cost of living.

    Not to trauma dump but I was put in one of those troubled teens camps that abused me and haven't felt safe since. Seriously that's the best advice to being good parent. Don't make them feel unsafe.

      Also with the kid being so young, I think that’s more often gender dysphoria. At 5 they don’t really even know anything abt attraction, but do have some sense of gender. No way to tell on either from tho, also they answered the question well and if the dad is this accepting and wanting to be proactively helpful for his gay son, he’ll probably be a good father for a trans daughter as well.

      Nah I went to school with a girl who cried when she found out she couldn't be a horse. Kids know what they want without (and despite) adults planting any ideas; you ask a classroom of 5 year olds what they want to be and you're not going to get as many future doctors and MLB stars as you'd think if you asked their parents

      Dude should spend more time telling his son that some of his ideas suck. Know what gives a kid a complex? Letting them think whatever they want. Parenting is supposed to be guidance. "You can't be a girl. You are a boy. Here are some reasons why you should be proud to be a boy." It's not that hard, but everyone wants to be a wokie these days and fear the scowls of some person in your life that obviously never mattered.

      kid will definitely have friends lol you might be projecting but even when i was in elementary (early 00's) the girly/feminine kids had friends. There's just assholes around no matter what but raising your child to have spine and be loved will overshadow all that shit.
