This song hits a little differently now that Gillium II's voice actor, Peter Spellos, has passed away. He was truly a wonderful, genuine person and a real force of nature. He will be deeply missed.
    'The adventure never ends...
We'll set off on a journey
    Sometime somewhere
    To the stars again
And the new adventures will begin.'

    • @WatschMeNow

Its more retro and high fantasy art conceptualization. If you look at sci-fi art from the 60s and early 70s youll find a lot of similar concepts and shapes and the high fantasy had been basically unchanged since the 80s.
And was really the 90s that had that optimism you're talking about. At least in the US, the 2000 election really shook the jar and then a year later 9/11 changed to world for the worse and we were off to the races to where we are now.
My one wish is that kids these days will get to experience an existence at least similar to what we had before the 2000s. Kids should be able to have that existential peace and, like you said, optimism -- they've been denied their entire lives.

As a kid I thought it was all imagery of Melfina at different points of her life after the end of the series (I assumed as a bio-android she would live a loooong time, but it's never really touched upon in the series). Or that perhaps they were other "Melfinas" from different parts of the universe, like because of the Leylines godlike influence over all life, maybe Mel wasn't the first of her kind to make the journey to the Leyline and perhaps wouldn't be the last?

More along the lines of the genetic material that was used to create Melfina was from the remains of a now extinct race that resides on the planet that the Grave of the Dragon was on and these women were of that race at different times in the planet's history.

Many of us have been looking for the missing Toonami episodes. Fortunately most have now been found, but there's a couple of chunks of episodes and some other bits missing from a lot of the episodes. A couple of years back there were a couple of Outlaw Star episodes on Archive but they were DMCA'd. Close to a year ago I found out that someone called MajinTrunkz had put a torrent of all the episodes on MySpleen. After getting those I removed the commercial breaks and hosted them on my server. Somebody grabbed those and put them on Archive. (Good to have a second option.)
Edit: Actually, the episodes on Archive are the MySpleen videos without any commercial removals. My mistake.
While it's a good set of episodes there are missing parts, like almost half of the Strongest Woman in the Universe episode. Did you not record many of the Outlaw Star episodes? It's a shame that we've _nearly_ got everything but there's a few bits and pieces missing. :P

@@MEEG0L The main differences are alternative dialogue (to censor a naughty word) and occasionally digitally altered scenes, like giving clothes to naked Melfina. In terms of getting a good experience, there is no advantage to the censored episodes whatsoever. The best way to enjoy Outlaw Star is the Blu-ray. However, these censored episodes are interesting to people who like to see the changes that were made. This includes Melfina having a different voice actress (Bridget Hoffman instead of Emilie Brown) for some of her censored lines.

I loved this show so much when it premiered on toonami it was the only graduation gift I wanted when I finished Highschool, it was frankly embarrassing walking into a Suncoast with my mom and pointing out the DVDs I wanted but I still treasure them till today.

I always get a bit sentimental whenever I listen to this. I've heard of these drawing being the creator's predictions of the future and what cool stuff and technology might come, but here we are in late 2023, roughly 25 years after this anime aired and we've made little progress with the world slowly going to shit in addition. That aside, I hope this anime can get another season at some point, even if its been 25 years since...

Its's too bad outlaw star ended after 26 episodes because there were still many more questions to be answered like where did gene get his caster gun, where there more mcdougal brothers and where did suzuka come from the show didn't really talk about her too much and of course were there previous maidens of the leyline

There was a season 2 planned, but action anime doesn't actually do all that well in Japan, and Outlaw Star didn't generate enough hype for it. Angel Links is set in the same setting, but honestly isn't very well-regarded.
It's a shame, because Outlaw Star was quite a fun romp that honestly probably would've benefited from at least 4 more episodes. Killer EDs though.

I like the explosiveness of the story. It didn't riddle the show with filler episodes. It was a race and the cast was thrown together by happenstance. I like that. Made it raw. Suzuka not having a backstory makes sense. She's a lone assassin that probably offed her clan or they all died and no one really lives to speak her name. She's a living legend.

@kiyoshi11 Thanks for your comment. I've actually discussed this since with fellow Outlaw Star fans and I do think, as previously commented, the images in the endings are probably to do with the Galactic Leyline. The artist who was hired for these ending pictures was Hikaru Tanaka.

POV I remember I used to stay up late hours of the night during the summer of 2001 to watch Outlaw Star on weekday nights. Especially for this ending, I was 12, I was on summer vacation.. it was hot, the box fan was blowing letting the cool air blow in, I was sharing a room with my brothers. I was the only one awake. Right as this song ending the Tom would always end toonami midnight run by saying “later”. Turn off the tv and think about the melody feeling of being 12 on a summer night while thing song played in my head.

I never stayed up late to watch adult swim but I was a huge toonami fan. I used to watch "Broken Promise" all the time and I loved the clips of outlaw star they used. The monologue about the right to dream didnt really make sense to me as a kid but I watched this series like 6 months ago and it hit. Such a good show, I wish I could have had the memories of watching it during its prime on adult swim.
