    toomanygames.com/
    "TooManyGames as a convention has evolved over the last 15 years. What started out as a small retro video game convention has grown and expanded into an all encompassing weekend of gaming. Whether it be board games, video games, indie games, retro games, handheld games, arcades, CCG’s, we have it all at TooManyGames."
    THIS TRIP WAS INSANE! SO Many Celebrities, Awesome People, and a FUN TIME!
    This is a new series!! Join me every so often and follow me on my videogame collecting journey. I take you live hunting at the thrift stores, flea markets, yard sales, garage sales, on Facebook Marketplace scores, etc. to add more games to the collection. This starts with one trip to the thrift store and grows from there. Watch to see where this leads and the AMAZING finds I score!!
    This upcoming week will be AWESOME and I cant wait to share!

    You’ll never stop this. The word video game convention is like the word wedding. Everyone jacks up their prices. A friend of mine called a place to get chairs and tables for his wedding, they quoted him at a couple of thousand dollars. He called back the next day and said he needed chairs and tables for a bbq, they charged him $800. Video game conventions are the same thing.

    I agree 100 percent. We drove from south eastern Virginia and I had a list of games I wanted to pick up, day one, I found one of them and it was $25 over buy it now eBay price, I showed the guy, and he said “yea well it’s convention prices, I payed a lot to be here”…. That’s insane to me, why would I over pay for something that can ship to my front door in 3 days for a lot cheaper.

    so as someone who sells at conventions in Canada, I typically go by price charting prices and always negotiate with people when I can. but some items condition and rarity does bring up prices so that's always something to consider. also end of the day as a buyer its your job to do research and not over pay, that's what I do as a collector when I attend conventions.
    I also get told often that my prices are great, which helps build customer relations.

    • @GamerAhmer
      @GamerAhmer  Год назад +2

      See it sounds like you price your games for a reasonable price. Most people I interviewed at the convention were disappointed in prices and many people refused to come this year because it was similar last year. I’m just hoping things get better for next year. I still had a great experience but I’m hoping more people speak up for next year.

  • @TrinhNguyen-85
    @TrinhNguyen-85 Год назад +3

    There really is no reason to charge so much for games at these conventions. Especially if the customer is paying in cash. You are saving from eBay fees and credit card fees. Some of these vendors are also blindly going by pricecharting prices too when it is not 100% accurate. The condition and variant of the game matters. I was at PRGE last year at the height of retro game craze and it was insane seeing the prices they charge. Hopefully the hype dies down this year

    • @GamerAhmer
      @GamerAhmer  Год назад

    I’ve just stopped buying if there isn’t a price on things, because I’ve had people look up eBay listings and claim they see a listing that means the game is worth X and it’s not a listing I’m seeing on my phone, as an example. Most don’t do stuff like this, but just a few can ruin the experience and make me feel like I should just have stayed home and bought games on eBay.

    Come to North point flea market in Baltimore instead to get better deals on video games. I usually price games at least a couple dollars below eBay prices. For example I am selling Skyward Sword for switch sealed for $33. Im usually there on most Saturdays but I wont be there this Saturday because I am going to another convention. Shore leave in Hunt Valley! Too many games was still fun even though the prices were crazy. I found a couple good deals in the mix.

    Great Video. My family and I just visited Bloomington, IL for the Illinois Game Con, and were doing VGS this weekend, and you're right. Some of those prices are insane. Especially on games that are refurbished like PS1 and other disc games. Out of the entire show at Game Con, we found 2 to 3 vendors who had below eBay prices. Most others did not want to barter, it was odd. But, the 2-3 vendors got most of my money.

    I have never been to a gaming con, but this pretty much confirms what I imagined they would be like in terms of pricing. There are many brick and mortar gaming stores that don't even price their items, but look up the current Ebay rate when you go to check out, so I'm not surprised that booth sellers would jack prices way up.

      Yeah whenever there's a list of vendors it's nice to start calling or emailing them when your on the hunt for things that aren't exactly popular and quick sellers. I do atari home computer carts and miscellaneous systems that came and went before the dawn of the NES. Mostly things that sit in the back room in the I don't know what to with it box buried in a corner in the back room.
      Sometimes i win and they have something many times they don't. But it helps you and the vendor if they know what your looking for and may help them on a dead sale. (A sale on an item they had no intention to bring due to lack of interest)

    The vendors do have to pay quite a bit to be there... You shouldn't expect deals. Over eBay is too much though.

    • @GamerAhmer
      @GamerAhmer  Год назад +2

      Yes I completely understand that but seeing $20 games for $100 is ridiculous. And hoping that people who don’t know any better buy them is terrible. I did hear that they raised the prices for everyone including vendors. So that’s definitely not good either.
      But most people want to feel as if they are getting a deal especially when comparing prices to eBay. What’s the point of paying all this money to get in to a convention to buy games when you could have an item shipped to your house for less. And the items are warrantied and guaranteed working or your money back.
      And in person with cash as opposed to eBay you are saving the person all of those fees.

  • @R4D4_
    @R4D4_ Год назад +1

    I'll never understand the argument that vendors shouldn't sell at ebay prices because they don't pay ebay fees. What about the fees that they do pay? Like travel (some vendors travel hours to a show), possibly a hotel room, food, and of course table rental. Ebay sold listings are generally close to pricecharting values, and vendors have every right to price ther items as such. Now, on the other hand, if prices are way higher than ebay or pricecharting, then those vendors have no one to blame but themselves when they don't sell anything.

    • @GamerAhmer
      @GamerAhmer  Год назад +1

      Yes I understand that. I’m talking about the $20 items for $100 and the several $200 games I saw for $550+. I’m just hoping people didn’t pay those prices because that’s ridiculous. Seemed as if some tables , not all, were preying on unknowingly naive people.

    • @R4D4_
      @R4D4_ Год назад

      @GamerAhmer yes, I agree with you 💯. It seems like vendors who do this are either just flexing or are out of touch with reality. As a vendor myself, I've been chastised for selling at average eBay sold prices, and that gets really old after traveling 3.5 hours to get there plus a hotel.

      Yes they have. Also Im not disagreeing with you, I just try to look at both sides that’s all. Sometimes too for vendors who aren’t stores sometimes people pay up to have good inventory and are not making much of a profit after paying for their booth after all is said and done. I feel like a lot of the independent vendors price higher to compensate as much as possible. But you are definitely right for the most part…i got a mint condition Stunt Racer 64 for $350 and i saw other booths selling worse condition ones for $500-$700. The difference in pricing was so out of whack.

They dont have to be super cheap or crazy deals but if you're a vendor at these cons it's so you can off load a lot of product. I've sold at a convention before and I wouldnt even think of pricing it the way i would on discogs.

    Get em' Gamer Ahmer! Sound the alarm :)
    We decided to be adventurous and traveled to ClassicGameFest because we've never been to Texas before. When the hall opened, it was a lot of the same marked up prices. One vendor tried to sell me an original Dreamcast controller for $60 LOL
    I laughed and reminded him that they're only valued at $20 at best. He shrugged it off then tried to sell a guy a PSPGo for $300 knowing a used loose unit is worth 1/2 that. Luckily the customer wasn't sold because that's a lot of money to part with. I later caught that customer and showed him a few tools to check market values. He was grateful and a little mad that he almost got scammed.
    As for me, I later found another vendor 2 booths over who had mountains of original working Dreamcast controllers on display that they tested, cleaned, and plastic wrapped for only $17! SOLD! Gotta do the homework and don't be afraid to walk away from the table and see what else is available!

    My friend and I have gone for 9 years in a row. We've seen the ups and downs of too many games. They shouldn't call it too many games they should call it too many people because it's just absolutely ridiculously crowded there. I think the prices there are also ridiculous however I've had the best time meeting voice actors like Charles Martinet, Patricia Summerset, James Rolfe and countless other RUclips personalities and voiceover actors over the years. The only things my friend and I get are super rare items that we can negotiate on. This year my friend bought a virtual boy Blockbuster case. I highly recommend it to people who want to go to experience retro gaming on steroids in your face however if you're going there to buy 100 video games at under eBay pricing it's a waste of time.

    Been going to Too Many Games for years and my wife has been going even longer (since when it wasn't in Oaks) and 2024 is the first year neither of us will be attending.
    The ticket prices go up each year at staggering rates. In 2018 a Saturday badge was $37, this year it is $60 (before taxes and fees mind you).
    The high game prices are mostly just a result from the vendors needing to compensate for their space costs. To be fair, even last year deals could be found as there are still plenty of vendors that offer cash, bundle and trade discounts. Their sticker prices were all below market value as well.
    Your video makes it seem the entire convention is price gouging but that isn't the case. The real sin of Too Many Games is their ticket and vendor rates.... and trying to be something more than it is (a video game market place).

    • @GamerAhmer
      @GamerAhmer  2 месяца назад +1

      There were many vendors that had higher prices but in this video and others I made about it I show the vendors I was able to work deals out with. At the front there were a bunch of overpriced items that seem to be targeting those who may not know market values. I’m sure you found deals as did I but there were more overpriced vendors than other conventions I attend.
      I completely agree on the entry costs as well. We paid cash and were still charged a “processing fee” which most times is used for credit or debit. We asked about the processing fee on the cash entry and were told “we don’t know why” and to “move aside” because there were other people they needed to get to.
      We even had a few volunteers give us a hard time last year as well over an open door and attempting to bring something out to the car.
      I’ve been going for a few years myself but after everything I experienced last year I won’t be going this year.

    • @GregoryOborne
      @GregoryOborne 2 месяца назад

      @@GamerAhmer Well are you comparing conventions of equal size and scope? Too Many Games has become a 'Mega' con of sorts so you are going to get higher sticker prices on merch, products etc as a result. Whereas at a smaller con in a smaller venue that ONLY sells games (no free play arcade, guests, concerts, entertainment etc.) you will find way fewer vendors with sticker markup.That is just the nature of the beast. Years ago Too Many Games was JUST a market for purchasing games and there was way less of the price gouging going on. The more and more they add to the con that doesn't (to me) have any need to be in a gaming marketplace the more the costs for everyone goes up. At the end of the day though, classic gaming has become synonymous with high value collectibles, which our hobby has become poisoned by. The days are gone where you won't find at least one person trying to take advantage of that so no matter where you go, you are going to find over-priced video games most likely. But yes like you said, deals can still be found thankfully, but we just have to accept that there will be people trying to make more than a buck as well.
      That is unfortunate about your experience last year and it does sound awful. To be clear, I by no means defend nor support Too Many Games and your experience with the ticket booth and staff is inexcusable. Charging fees for cash is also a pet peeve of mine and ludicrous. It is upsetting you also will not be attending this year, as I am sure we share the excitement from years prior of visiting this con as it really does have an incredible selection and range of games to pick up.

    As a vendor this video is a tad bit annoying. We put our prices higher because people like to negotiate. 90% of the time I never sell anything at sticker value. If the person doesn't negotiate I just offer a lower price and they take it. They feel good. I feel good. Everyone is happy.

    The best weapon is knowledge. It was like that when I started game collecting in 1997 and true for today. Shop around with a base knowledge of what your looking for and the ebay going rate. Make a little list then shop the tables. See who has what. Graded games are a 0 in my book since you can't play em and games aren't really an investment you can bank on. Don't be afraid to pay the entry fee not to buy anything and then buy on ebay. Shop around and use the data you learn to make a good choice. I'm going to SEGE in south carolina and I'll know what I want and the price range it goes for and what I'm willing to pay. All you can do. And simply don't over pay when you have options. And if it's the cart at the show think if it's over priced even if you don't see one online. Shop the floor and see who has the best price and then is it comfortable for you. Patience pays off at cons and collecting overall
