@Cannotbetamed1 Same here. It's why I have a loose copy of Cold Stone Creamery: Scoop It Up for the Wii 😅 Not many places or people around here want loose common games, so any that I have live in a binder because I can't just throw out a perfectly good game.... well, working game, not necessarily "good" 😆
I put this video in the background while I do other things and I almost jumped when I heard Barrie Game Exchange lol. I like going twice a year even if its a bit annoying to take the Go Train up there from Toronto
I never really collected collected. I kind of tried to find the pieces that I remembered from being a kid, and most of it I just have in boxes that I move from house to house hahahaha. I stopped buying it when the pricing went through the roof. I like to own consoles and games, but found myself using emulation so that I don't wear out the hardware etc. I think if you have a few consoles boxed up with a few of your favourite games, and emulate the rest you will find peace and enjoyment etc. Also, I do mean go and buy the games that you're playing, don't rom rip etc. But once you're done sell it and use that like a voucher off your next purchase. It means you'll have to focus to finish a game, capture it with a video card if you're wanting to rewatch it later etc, and then move onto another game, and just spend smalls amounts often to keep it going.
I collect games as my only avenue of spending stupid funny money, I quit drinking 3 years ago and I dont want to think about the amount of money I was spending every month on alcohol for at home consumption and "going out." Which, realistically was to binge drink. So, the money I spent there goes towards videogames. I also have a 3 month old daughter now, and it will be a nice means to introduce her to videogames.. well, just as long as she doesn't touch any of it until she's old enough (kidding). She shares a name with your dog!
I don’t like having too much stuff. Even though I like having physical copies of some of these retro games, if it gets to be overwhelming I usually cull the collection and sell what I’m done with.
I'm thinking about selling my NES collection and go the Everdrive route. A videostore offered me 10 000$ for it. I'm collection them for 20 years and even though I don't play every month I do have bubble here and there and it feels good to have them by my side. If I sell, I will never go back to it so I do have some mental preparation to do first because I really love this console. There's some emotional support linked to those games.
I’m of the mindset now that if it doesn’t have memories attached to it, I’m going to sell it at some point. I’m definitely refining my collection. I’ve also sold off a ton before! Only thing I regret is my psp collection. I do miss it, and now the good games are pricey!
lol Monkey Island on sega CD. damn that brings back memories. I remember sitting thru those loading screens almost every new frame you walked into. Still have it in storage in my basement
Im a collector but I absolutely understand why collecting isnt worth it. I love music but only listen to it on spotify so I dont own any of it and it doesnt bother me one bit! You can love something and not need to physically own it.
Yeah I play games on Steam or iOS mostly. I can’t afford to pay more money for “authentic” games when I can buy Chrono Trigger for $7 and play it on my Steam Deck
MP3's are not physical either, but you can have a collection on your hard drive or a USB stick, and listen to them even if the internet would go down, or if you couldn't pay for internet anymore or something.
The are over 50mil Xbox One's out there in the world. Most are still in people homes.. I'm one of them lol. Despite what happened to it verses the PS4 (and Switch), it's still an impressive & capable system with a large (and currently inexpensive) library. I'm having a fantastic time collecting for it, and I know I'm not the only one.
Getting out of it (game collecting). I'm posting just 7-8 games a day on eBay, and they're selling at a decent clip, plus no need to deal with people face-to-face.
9:26 Wow, that is the most legendarily picky conditionist thing I've ever heard! Personally I deliberately GO AFTER games with old video rental/retail stickers, especially blockbuster. Yellowing from tape residue can't be fixed but the residue/grime itself can generally be removed even with cardboard. I have never sold anything at a con/flea market yet, I usually go to ebay and turn best offer off.
I just said fuck it, sold most of my games since that was just money sitting on a shelf for no good reason. Then I took some of that money, bought myself a beefy gaming PC and have been sailing the high seas ever since. I've managed to "get" most of my games back that way, so really I've lost nothing. Just decluttered my life and got a nice PC to boot.
You seem to be a person that always look forward, craving new experiences through new games. And your channel seems to reflect that, becoming more about new games instead of the "retro" content, that gradually has disappeared from your channel. The type of person that seems to hold to collecting, is the nostalgic type; the one that's trying to "revisit" his childhood very often. In my particular case, I have to play in a CRT TV to truly revisit those memories. And I constantly rewatch older movies and music. So in that sense, I understand your detachment mindset of never looking back and not holding to things. And with emulation, you can always take a trip to your childhood from time to time.
I share your mentality in that I love playing games but no longer collect physical media. The only physical copy of a game, or any type of media really, is a new sealed copy of Crimson Skies which I wish they would do a remake. Anyway, best wishes to you and Lilly!
my only regret selling off my collection was doing it 14 years ago and not now because the prices on what i had are ridiculous now. Other than that, I barely remember all the stuff I had and never felt bad about getting rid of multiple storage boxes worth of stuff. I need to do another round of decluttering again for stuff i've acquired since.
I'm only a fiend for carts, old console CD games that double as music CDs, and some big box games I played in the day like Ultima and Wing Commander. There is too much stuff now to just collect...it's crazy. Gotta embrace your core values and collect based on those.
I'm exclusively digital now. My only regret was not backing up digital products I bought but then were taken off line years later by platforms. Music especially in the case of Bandcamp. So now I try and backup everything where possible.
Same with me, for the most part. Modern video game physical media look like complete throwaways anyways. Slathered in legal text agreement, boring stock CG art work, They're practically empty inside etc. The writing is on the wall, and I can't be bothered pre-ordering from companies like LimitedRunGames and having to wait several months to get my shiny plastic & Cardboard. As for retro gaming. Some things are just better left in the past, and instead to look back fondly on. There' s beauty in certain things being temporary. I mean, how long can some 40+ year old dude stand to look at his video game shrine of lets say 200+ NES games, Accessories(etc) that he's collected and owned for almost 2 decades? Most will get sick of that sh** and will want change! :P
@@tomaslaskovsky722 I'm 39, but could pass for 33. Eating healthy, working out and cutting out the alcohol(etc) all go a long way, in making you look and feel younger. I still feel like I'm 30, but i feel like I've lost just a bit of that passion and excitability towards the video game industry! :P I'd rather be 25 again haha. Actually, I'd rather be 7 years old back in 1991! :P WAYYY better times. The world kind of sucks now.
I am, in the hilarious and ludicrously appropriate vernacular of Jake Baldino, a "Stuff Goblin." I love collecting anything that I am interested in. Once I stopped having to trade games in to afford new ones, my collection exploded. I actually do miss all my old systems and games that have gone away from trade over the years, but realistically, I probably wouldn't play many if any of them anymore anyway. I just like having them on my shelf. All my pretty, shiny things. I shutter to think of how much money I have tied up in games alone.
I thought I was going to regret selling my collection. Turns out I had no regrets even after four years. I got a good amount of cash and put that towards things that I actually got use out of....such as paying off some debt and a decent laptop for college.
I try to collect first all the games i want, ps1-ps3 mostly and than after try to find new ones to try but i always stay within cib or preferable below, il probably sell a few once i run out of space or i lose interest but for now, im enjoying every minute i grab a new one.
Good to see you getting rid of things you don't enjoy anymore. I keep things I want, still use, or get joy from but I it's important to know when you're just keeping something for the sake of it and getting rid to free that mental and literal space. Hope Lily is feeling better soon
Having too many old game consoles can be stressful because I have to worry about replacing them if they break that’s why I love ports of retro games on modern consoles
I rapidly depleted a lot of my cash savings on a down payment and initial repairs for a house I bought right at the onset of the pandemic. Even though I was in no imminent danger of losing my job, the whole experience let me to re-evaluate why I was keeping my game collection and I decided to sell it all. It's been four years now and I still have zero regrets. I can't even keep up with new releases, anyway!
You could always just get a MiSTer, pair it with a good 27" Sony CRT and get a few different controllers and call it a day, and you'll have access to every single 8-16 bit title released, and with zero input lag, while saving a ton of money. That's what I'm doing. It isn't worth my money and time spending hundreds to thousands on old cartridges, old consoles, and old carts or discs just so i can fail at recapturing 'that' feeling or nostalgia, and besides it's impossible to recreate those awesome memories we all had way back when for numerous reasons. Switch, PS5 & XSX are the three players in town. Which is why I'd rather make new memories with both new and older retro games released on Switch that i haven't experienced before. Basically embracing what's in the now, like we all did back in the late 80's and 90s with the one or two current consoles we owned. we didn't own, or put the energy, time and money into several consoles with several different libraries.
Hey Pam thanks for your update of your video games collection. I hope your able to sell more soon. If I may just a sincere idea have you consider perhaps doing a video game fundraiser for Lily? I was just wondering. I hope Lily gets well soon. Thanks for your time as always and please take care.
The problem also is the buyers do not want to buy games at the top asking price as they want to make a profit themselves, so you will end up sitting on most of these games for centuries until you reduce the price to a point where you are losing money or making slim pickings. I own, buy and sell vinyl every so often I find a rare gem but you will most likely own a load of nice rare vinyl which can be valuable but not desirable and will not sell, this is how people end up with huge collections collecting dust and end up either selling them as a job lot for a bargain clear out price or go to the grave with them and they end up in a charity/thrift store. The dream is always there but the reality is that you need deep pockets to play this game if you want to make any real money.
zen intergalactic ninja 👌. i sold it a few weeks ago for 170 or something. i'm also on the edge of seeling allot of my collection. but don't when the tax department will annoy me. on marketplace we got the warning to not sell more then 30 artikels a year and not more then 2k a year. don't know the fine things about it. but if your thinning out your collection it's easely grows way above 2k a year. i do understand them, but allot of this stuff we already payed taxes for. i'm in the same headspace currently. got allot of stuff just sitting on the shelf.
I appreciate videos like this. I'm tired of channels that gatekeep and make it seem like you can't be a fan if you don't own physical media. I always talk about how Chrono Trigger / Earthbound / FF6 are some of my best memories from 1995/1996, but selling my OG copies in 2003 when I was fresh out of college and unemployed doesn't change my memories or affect my love for revisiting these games digitally over the years. If I regret anything, it was how much I sold them for then and what I could have gotten for them since.
I've gotten a lot of comments on this series of videos that are gatekeep-y like that. "Oh, well you must not really like gaming if you sell your games..." Collecting and enjoying playing games are completely different topics.
Crazy the difference of value between PAL and US games. I sold Legend of Dragoon for 140€ here in France. I also decided to get rid of everything except my DS (84), 3DS (79) and Switch (296) games earlier this year. People say they have no money. I made 14k € in 2 months.
I started downsizing after being inspired by one of your first vids about selling some of your collection. Mainly I've been trading in a bunch of games to CEX (some valuable, a lot not but cumulatively added up) for games I actually want. Started doing it with books and other stuff too. It's honestly nice to actually just keep the stuff that means something to me and be able to actually declutter my space.
I gave my NES away like 15+ years ago because I hadn't touched it in ages and preferred to use emulators. I haven't missed it, but I kind of wonder what it would be worth now.
@@Cannotbetamed1 Worked in my case mileage may vary etc. I take black seed (Nigella sativa) for my hip and that works great as an anti inflammatory can also be used for dogs.
Oh and I hope Lilly feels better! I had a dog that became arthritic when she got older and I learned to give her Adequan injections at home. (The vet taught me how to do it, I didn’t just decide to do it myself!) It completely changed her life, she was like a different dog! If you can learn to give the injections yourself, you can save a boatload of money in vet bills! Good luck!
I used Price Charting and took off about 20%. Lily has started getting Librela injections, which seems to be helping. Though I honestly threw a bunch of solutions in at once - Librela, join supplements, physical therapy. I'm not sure if it's one thing or the combination that's caused an improvement.
I'm quite impressed that you got such a good return on all your old games. I'm the type that would put an ad in Craigslist that says, "200 classic PC & console games with original boxes! $400! Firm!" then be done with it. I guess game swap meets are the way to go.
I have a feeling once everything goes fully digital there will be a resurgence in physical media. I think people are starting to collect Xbox 1 stuff as it is cheap for now.
This era of digital downloads is a double edged sword. On the one hand, you don't truly own a game anymore. What's more, many games require an Internet connection for single-player, which means the developer can simply decide "We're not supporting this game," and everyone that previously bought a copy can't play it anymore. On the other hand...you're not left with boxes and boxes of stuff to deal with when the system ages out.
I'd say posting on facebook marketplace or kijiji would be the way to go. It's not as much of a hassle as a live show. The only work is putting up the posting, and then meeting up with the buyer. No sitting and waiting at a booth all day and chatting with tire kickers.
@@Cannotbetamed1 I notice a lot of people get annoyed at the "is this still available?" line. I just take it as a form of greeting at this point and autoreply 'yes it is' back. As for the lowballs, I shoot back my high ball counteroffer. I don't feel bad about it because that's the price I'd be willing to sell for, they can't get offended because it's slightly cheaper than my asking price. They can either go for it or move on, no stress either way.
Im sad that you sold your games. The era of owning physical games has been done for a while now. I'm one of the holdouts and its sad to see another person depart. Such is life though. I get it.
Sold my nintendo “collection “ which was really just games i had as a kid. Was about 50 NES games, nothing very rare except a three screw commando and a “left Bros” mario 3. Also sold SNES which were mostly the FF and zelda games. Sold everyrhing on ebay for around $1200. Not bad considering everything was used but i think the peak time to sell was 5 or 10 years ago
I doubt you would feel any regret selling off retro items this soon, that usually happens years down the line not this early. We all need to refine our collections as they get out of hand if we never sell anything off, better to have a curated collection then lots of items you dont care for. Hope your dog gets better soon.
I like original hardware, crt, scanlines etc, so I use flaash carts for everything that is old and opticalk emulators for ps2/saturn/ etc etc. I dont care for owning old games just need to be able to experience them the orignal way
360 will probably sell better now with the store closing and games like Tornado Outbreak going up. I am currently torn about selling a mass amount of my games. Good luck with future sales
I sold mine years ago. After having a family, not having the space, and getting into more physical hobbies, it all just sat there. I don't regret it at all.
I feel exactly the same way. I buy my games digital whenever possible. I saw how a friend of mines would buy more and more physical copies and it just doesn’t make sense to me anymore. Sure I’m missing out on certain old games but I have so many new digital games, I’m set for the next several years.
I saw some game guides I’d want to buy (MASS EFFECT 3!). Even more so if you wrote a short thank you message on the inside. “Previously owned by Pam & Lily XO.” Do you have a stamp with that nice logo with you and Lily?” LOL
thank you for the video, hope Lilly gets better! Taking care of older dogs can be really expensive, my sweet baby also went thorugh a difficult time because of his teeth not so long ago. best wishes❤🩹
Also, I stopped collecting (albums) when I moved to a smaller place. Collections just take up a lot of room. I was also collecting concert/festival tickets when I was still going to them, they're my favorite. They take minimal space and full of memories
I'm thinking about trading my filler games in to the local game shop. No sense holding on to games I don't want to play. It's just become stuff I don't need.
I've been focused on digital PC gaming for decades with no regrets. I have a PS1, PS2, Xbox, and Dreamcast stored away with games that I either refuse or am too lazy to get rid of. However, I have not bothered adding to those collections since they were new. I know someone currently enthralled with emulation on an Odin 2. I could see myself going that route. I'm not anxious to collect anything that requires physical storage though.

This was definitely insightful and interesting also an excuse to hear pam mouth off about something game related 😂❤
She shares a name with your dog!
my favorite part is you using google sheets! I use that to keep track of games that I play that I missed out on when I was younger
I don’t like having too much stuff. Even though I like having physical copies of some of these retro games, if it gets to be overwhelming I usually cull the collection and sell what I’m done with.
Pam you look mad gorgeous! Zen Intergalactic Ninja is indeed the definition of an Obscure gem on the NES.
Yeah I gotta start dumping mine too, too much plastic I’ll never touch again. Good insight on what is actually being bought
Always feels nice to sell something to a good home where you know it'll be looked after.
I share your mentality in that I love playing games but no longer collect physical media. The only physical copy of a game, or any type of media really, is a new sealed copy of Crimson Skies which I wish they would do a remake. Anyway, best wishes to you and Lilly!
Sealed NES games can sell for thousands of dollars now.
Sorry to hear about Lily. Hopefully she gets to feeling better ❤️
Thank you
my only regret selling off my collection was doing it 14 years ago and not now because the prices on what i had are ridiculous now.
sad to see you are letting go of your collection and moving more towards digital. Still enjoy your videos a lot!
Ill never sell ny stuff again, bout 14 years ago i lost my job and my home so i was living off my collection and i still regret it.
In my old age (38), I started collecting original Nintendo Switch games - they're expensive, but very beautiful. And I can't help myself... :)
I would love to be 38 again lol.
You're still a kid!
Your not old dude
@@hologram1604 Man, I wrote (published) my first review in 2001 (it was Third Civilization). I DO feel old.
Nicely done. I'm also satisfied with how I used the money from my game sales.
I try to collect first all the games i want, ps1-ps3 mostly and than after try to find new ones to try but i always stay within cib or preferable below, il probably sell a few once i run out of space or i lose interest but for now, im enjoying every minute i grab a new one.
I just sold my TGFX mini recently for over $300. I was really surprised at how much people were willing to pay for it.
Wow that thing really jumped in value! I love mine, idk if I will ever part with it.
"There's going to be a lot of numbers in this video...." ❤❤❤
Good to see you getting rid of things you don't enjoy anymore. I keep things I want, still use, or get joy from but I it's important to know when you're just keeping something for the sake of it and getting rid to free that mental and literal space. Hope Lily is feeling better soon
Thank you
Having too many old game consoles can be stressful because I have to worry about replacing them if they break that’s why I love ports of retro games on modern consoles
I’d be interested in seeing a video detailing the games that you absolutely would never sell, games that you revisit at least once or twice a year.
I still have bunch left, but there is no game I would never sell.
Hey Pam thanks for your update of your video games collection. I hope your able to sell more soon.
If I may just a sincere idea have you consider perhaps doing a video game fundraiser for Lily? I was just wondering.
I hope Lily gets well soon. Thanks for your time as always and please take care.
First time I’ve ever heard someone recommend going to Barrie. 😭😂
I'm a nerd too and love numbers so thanks!
Of course!
Did they charge you to rent out the tables at the Conventions? If so, how much?
I think I paid $60 at Barrie. I didn't pay at Toronto because I was a guest.
@Cannotbetamed1 Cool! Down here in the states, depending on the size of the venue they charge more.
Revenge of the nerds is an awesome movie
Zen: Intergalactic Ninja and Isolated Warrior are two NES games that I have been looking for a long time.
How did you determine the selling prices? I want to sell a few games as well but I struggle with finding the right price 🤔
Michelle and I sat down one night and looked up everything on Price Charting, and knocked 20ish% off the sold prices.
@@Cannotbetamed1 That's why these prices are so good. I live next to a retro game store and I confirm that that these are solid bargains.
You were on the fence about selling Felix the Cat. I’m so happy you kept it!
Did anyone ask you to sign a game they purchased?
Nope, no one did.
That's how I started getting out of the collecting mindset. I'd buy a game, play it, then trade it in for something else I wanted.
I gave my NES away like 15+ years ago because I hadn't touched it in ages and preferred to use emulators. I haven't missed it, but I kind of wonder what it would be worth now.
I remember having such a collection of PS One and PS2 games..but ah...unless you're very very careful they don't last.
Man joy is everything! Well put
That’s impressive you were able to keep such a Orderly Catalogue of games. Good job! Are we talking Canadian or American dollars here?
Canadian
Turmeric worked wonders for my Labrador when he got older and started having trouble with his hips.
Turmeric is so helpful for humans and pups alike. Just remember if you’re taking turmeric to take black pepper with it, to help with efficacy.
I've been hearing that.
@@Cannotbetamed1 Worked in my case mileage may vary etc. I take black seed (Nigella sativa) for my hip and that works great as an anti inflammatory can also be used for dogs.
Congratulations! What did you use to determine the “market price“?
@@Cannotbetamed1 Thanks for the info. Wishing you and Lily the best of luck with her treatment!
I did this myself 3 years ago. I sold off stuff I had no interest in playing.
Yeah, but 700 "is this still available?" messages, and lowballs.
I'm selling/trading in games I'm not attached to. No point in holding onto things I will never play.
Hi Pam, how did you price everything out?
Price Charting sold listings then knocked off around 20%
She is feeling much better lately.
@@Cannotbetamed1 Thats lovely to hear, vets bills are expensive but dogs are so precious and worth it.
How do you determine the sell price?
I like original hardware, crt, scanlines etc, so I use flaash carts for everything that is old and opticalk emulators for ps2/saturn/ etc etc. I dont care for owning old games just need to be able to experience them the orignal way
At least you have a big home, I live in a small place and its been taken over by game invasion.
360 will probably sell better now with the store closing and games like Tornado Outbreak going up. I am currently torn about selling a mass amount of my games. Good luck with future sales
360 prices will hike in upcoming years
I sold mine years ago.
You had Thousand Arms for PS1??? That is expensive and collectable.... damn I wanted that... but need to travel to Canada first to bought it! 😋
Great episode Pam!
Thanks!
Good stuff. Would you say overall that you’re satisfied with your return for things thus far?
Yes, just wish more things had sold.
I saw some game guides I’d want to buy (MASS EFFECT 3!). Even more so if you wrote a short thank you message on the inside. “Previously owned by Pam & Lily XO.” Do you have a stamp with that nice logo with you and Lily?” LOL
I love the consoles and games I currently own, but since getting a mister the thought of downsizing comes up regularly now.
thank you for the video, hope Lilly gets better!
I hope your baby recovered well. Lily had dental surgery a couple months ago and now is having joint and arthritis issues.
