    This is extremely similar to the Hamilton Khaki's mechanical. I only say that since it's my main daily beater. This Seiko is cool look to it. Simplistic. It isn't flashy, yet, retains that level of interest towards older souls. I think these kinds of pieces stand out more than flashy stainless steel bracelets, and all of that jazz, which to the untrained eye, seem like a WalMart watch. Wearing such a piece shouldn't make some form of modernized statement about how technological advanced you are or the amount of money you have, but, that you appreciate the pure and rich history of a movement enough to wear it, knowing that you can rely on just good old-fashioned engineering. Those are the people I like having a chat with whenever I see one in our shop. I digress. :-)

    This has been be daily watch for a long time now. I wear it all day every day. Absolutely love it. Sometimes I feel like it looks similar to a IWC Big Pilot which is my grail watch. So, it just makes me love it more.

      No issues so far. It lags around 1-2 mins every 2 weeks. But I don't mind adjusting it every now and then. @@Harrisabd

    Excellent watch! I unintentionally came across the 36+ mm version. Better than I expected. I had to buy it. I actually thought it was a 38mm till I measured it days later. It's super accurate. For the past 4 days I can't tell if it's been off by even a second!

    Really like the SNK 809. I have had three and have sold them to get the "upgrade" to the 4r35/36 and 6r15. But the owners user guide suggests that you do not play golf. tennis or any active sports with. Same with my few month old Hamilton watches with the H 10 movement. The same with my Hamilton Khaki mechanical with the 2802 manual wind. I had the manual wind regulated to 0 seconds +or-, 0 beat error and 305 amplitude. Played nine holes of golf with the mechanical and now off + or - 3 seconds, beat error .3 and amplitude of 290. That is just nine holes. Played nine holes with a Seiko 4r35. Took it out of adjustment. Played with my Seiko SARB 033. Now the amplitude will not go over 220. So there is something to be said for the old 7s26. I played twenty wears with one and did not phase it. This is all documented with a Time Grapher. So if you do anything more rough than watch You Tube videos with these newer albeit "modern" movements with nice features heed the user manual instructions. Or you will end up with some watch box queens that will be damaged with "harsh" use. I have played with a 1948 Hamilton manual wind (748 movement), a 1953 Bulova automatic and a 1960 Hamilton automatic (Certina) with no issues. Remember the original Seiko 5 was intended for the working person that did not have a plethora of watches. Only one to wear at work, play and dress. Heretofore the only brands of automatic that have said specifically it is OK to play golf with is Rolex and Omega. A chat assistant at Longenes told me that was OK but cold not find anything in their user manual that would support that statement. So these rough and tumble "field watches" may not be suitable to play anything more active than chess. So don't plan on playing polo with your JLC Reverso. It recommends against iy in the manual.

      @@ChronometerCheck Just want to make sure people know what they are getting into when they make a purchase. I have six watches that are too nice for work that I cannot use during recreation time. I stop at the grocery and doctors etc on the way home from work. Since I do not wear them during this time or during recreation time that leaves home time. But then it isn't supposed to be good to hand wind automatics plus the extra wear on screw down crown threads it is best to let them sit. So really these purchases were a waste of time and money. Then there is resale. Maybe 50%. Plus the "lab rat" pieces that I wore anyway and dulled the performance. How could I sell these without getting them fixed or take an awful beating.
      If you are just going to sit around and guard the television that shouldn't hurt them. But if you do other things, be sure to check the user guide first.

      Most user manuals are hogwash thanks to lawyers. I definitely wouldn't base a watch purchase on what is or is not printed in a manual. Heck, even G-Shock manuals suggest not washing your hands while wearing...

      i have an 809 and after owning it for 3 months its stopped working, i put it down to drumming along to music on my legs and car steering wheel , the movement goes for a bit then stops and starts so thats my seiko experience

      Hand wound is best fo those sort of sports. Just imagine what happens to the rotor when playing golf. Think centrifuge

    I wore a small Citizen field watch for 2 years straight. It is a good watch with great lum, but it is a little too small for my preference. I also wanted an automatic watch, which the Citizen was not. After about half-a-year of research, I settled on buying this Seiko. The size is perfect and I love the atheistics of it. I finally found that my favorite parameters for watch sizes are between 38mm-40mm. This fits great. Yet, it does not have great lum. I, then, started looking for a great lum watch. I settled on a Lum-Tec watch, which is absolutely outstanding! Yet, I still come back to this Seiko as my daily EDC for the simple fact that it has a day/date window.

    Got mine today. My first automatic watch. Saved up for it. The lume on the hands is blue on this model! Fantastic!

      @@Foma_Kinyaev4188 i think pretty good! At night, I can read it anytime in a dark environment. It's not Bright, but I can definitely read the time. I didn't thought it would this good. :)

    I prefer the size of my SNK805, the water resistance is its only downfall. I never needed hacking or handwinding on my automatic watches. The 7s26c has never caused me to be late for work.

    Thank you so much for having a side by side comparison to the SNK809. I love my SNK but can’t help but think it’s a tad bit small for me. Time to convince the wife to let me get this beauty haha

    As a cameraman i must suggest putting your lights from the sides. Like when you shoot a person wearing glasses you light it from both sides to avoid seeing the light in the glasses. Also when lights are far apart from each other, things look more round and pop out of the screen more.

      You can put light almost anywhere in a shot, all that matters is reflectors and diffusers

    Looks like a nice watch.
    Update after purchasing one: The lum is good on the hour and minute hands, but the tiny, tiny lum markers around the outside (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12) leave something to be strongly desired. I can read the time for a short while after I put a flashlight to it, but it does not last too long. It is hard to read the time in low light situations. I wish every number was fully illuminated, not just a small mark next to it. Wearing this watch consistently I must carry a pocket flashlight with me to read the time. I do not like that.

    I just ordered the Hamilton 38 mm field watch, manual wind, no date. I also ordered a Hamilton 42 mm field watch with automatic and day-date function.. They have not arrived yet. And please do try a full unboxing. When done right it really adds to the story.. Not boring at all.

    Nice looking watch - on a 7" wrist. Mine, sadly, is 6.25". If Seiko ever makes this in 37mm I'll get one right away.

    I’ve had nothing but trouble with two mechanical Seiko watches in the past five years, the first one has been back to the main Seiko dealer twice for ‘repairs’. The second one has been back one time, each repair at approx $125 has been at my cost, all returns/repairs were as a result of the watches stopping for no apparent reason, one of them was losing time to such an extent that it would be roughly ten minutes slow each week.
    I’ve probably bought four or five Seiko in my time, currently own just two of them, they’re working for now and they keep good time and I take good care of them but I wouldn’t buy another nor recommend them to anyone.

      I used to be a big Seiko fan, divers, field watches, dress, Alpinist, etc. The 7s26 is not the movement it was 40 years ago. I've had trouble with two of mine also, fortunately I fix my own watches so it didn't cost me anything. The stink of these watches is that you can buy a $35 analog Casio solar that will run without batteries for 15 or 20 years flawlessly. They have better water protection and better accuracy. I know, I know, these are mechanical watches so it's not fair but wait a minute, what's the function of a watch? To tell time dependably, be inexpensive and last. That's not Seiko anymore, if you want a watch that's not going to die on you in the middle of nowhere then get a Casio. If I want style I'll grab one of my restored Longines watches from the 60's. Longines, now that's a watch!

      @@mosfet500: I’ve got plenty of watches, I had the ‘Arnie’ analogue/digital AMW-320R (2701) in the 1980’s and when I finally broke (even casio said they couldn’t repair it) I bought a new/old stock replacement from eBay.
      That’s probably going to outlast all both my Seiko watches.
      I don’t even wear my nice watches much, they’re all locked away 🤣

      @@chizuru1999 If you want a great beater with a battery the MRW-200H is hard to beat, waterproof to 100M, about 300 feet. A solar that will run for years, take a look at the AQ-S800W tough solar, also good to 10bar or about 300 feet, both are analog watches. For digital the DW-5600E is the benchmark, really good and 20 bar water resistance or about 600 feet (200M).
      Go check out Greg Anderson, The Good Timekeeper, he does all kinds of Casio's.

    Looks nice. I just wish it did not come with the day/date complication.. Need to replace my 6 month old Hamilton Field Watch that just broke. The Hamilton was perfect but I now suspect the movement's reliability. Just want a watch with a hand wound mechanical movement with no added complications and is not so expensive you can wear it everyday without getting a heart attack everytime you bump your wrist.

    Nice review! I wish Seiko would use the syringe hour and minute style hands from the SNK809. Hamilton uses the syringe style also. Never been a fan of sword hands, but otherwise, a great looking watch!

    Looks nice but it’s quite thick. I think Seiko and other makers over prioritize the see thru case back which adds unwanted thickness.

    I like it, but then I look down at the Timex Weekender on my wrist and it feels a little redundant for me. I'm sure it's a lot quieter (my cats make less noise than this watch), but I feel like I need to look higher up the chain for my next watch. Great vid, thanks!

    I just wish it was smaller. A bit too big for a field watch IMO. I would’ve liked to see them size it down a bit, give it a hand winding movement, and make it a serious competitor to the Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical.

    Your video quality is great but may I suggest letting the watch sit in some instances? I found it a little difficult to focus on the dial when you were holding it throughout the video. There’s a lot of small movements. Hope this helps!

      There is another video somewhere around that actually mentions the 5KX bracelets fitting these new Field watches. The video is titled something along those lines anyways.

      @@GODSPEEDseven Guessing you mean the "dressKX" models? I believe they have 20mm lug widths also, unlike the dive watch 5KX variants, which have 22mm. Also I don't think any of them come in a satin/sandblasted version, so unlikely I'd be able to find one to match this particular reference I have here, but could definitely be an option if you have a brushed/polished variant.

      It wasn't a video either; Shane from Relative Time posted a photo of a brushed case field with a brushed/polished bracelet from Strapcode that fits the dressKX.
      Sorry for that misinformation!!
      It's also not really a look I dig, I like brushed case field watches, but not nearly as much as blasted. I'd really like to see a blasted bracelet to fit this case you reviewed. 🤞

    Boldr Venture xlnt field watch. I’ve owned Omega’s Rolexes, over-engineered. My Seiko Willard, is my EDC. Timex’s are good for work & cost-effective. Longines, lugs too long. COSC, Chronometer, Seiko Astron GPS, Solar most accurate. Keep costs down, good for marriage, kids (know what I mean?).

    I just got this watch yesterday and I love it so much. My first automatic/field watch. It looks great and it didn't break my bank account. I fear that it may have started something in me for automatic watches. God help me when I start to make some real money 😭🤣.

    Got my olive green 4R36 yesterday and did a test with the atomic clock, it was fast by 6 seconds in a day - maybe too enthusiastic on the therapeutic hand wind!

    since you have the snk809 and the hamilton maybe in the in-depth review do a segment with a proper comparison between them.. these seem nice but it still makes me sad that the snk80x is gone. it was such a great little affordable field watch..

    Actually a traditional field watch IS domed, because traditionally it would be acrylic in the old days, and they were always heavily domed.

      Hey, you learn something new every day! I wasn't aware of that. Would have assumed that in the field a domed crystal would make weird viewing angles during crucial missions, etc.

      @@ChronometerCheck well, when I say heavily domed, most of the curvature was at the extreme edge. It was a different look because it's expensive to reproduce in glass or sapphire

      @@warahk I did, at first I didn't know it had Arabic and English date but because I live in Saudi Arabia and had ordered from Amazon SA it had it, I guess if you order a copy intended for sale in Arab market it will have Arabic date

      @@maximus3233 Hardlex is pretty durable. I've had plenty of Seiko 5s, and 2 SKXs with hardlex. Only a noticable scratch on one of them, as I slid my hand between the seat of my car and the dashboard and it scratched against something on the way down. Like nails on a chalkboard. Other than that, not more than a little nick.

      @@maximus3233 Mine's got a few micro scratches, but it seems very durable and don't think I'll break. It's only when you try to look for them, you end up noticing the micro-scratches otherwise those are barely noticeable because of the black dial.
      However, the brushed stainless steel case did end up getting a few scratches on the lugs and bezel. But I cannot complain as Seiko 5s are a great first mechanical watches to buy for the price and you don't need to be very cautious of handling them with much care.
      If it is to your taste, look into SNZG13 (or it's newer counterpart) instead of 15 as the former comes with polished stainless steel case instead of the brushed one. It is quite difficult to get a polished stainless steel case scratched, in comparison.

    This is much better built than, say, a Timex Expedition. But it also looks exactly like one. At 5x the price.

      The finish, build quality and movement are objectively better. Is it worth the extra cost? That's of course up to the buyer.

    I usé allí the day This Seiko watch:
    a-Delay 1 minute a day.
    b-Luminescence failure: the 12 HRS mark is not differentiated, at night all the fluorescent marks look the same. c-Very thick watch for small wrists (12-13cm).
    d-The watch is 15'40mm thick (the strap goes behind the watch).
    e- The convex glass (retro) makes it lose visibility due to the multiple brightnesses.

    Just received this same watch last week. To be honest I think the sandblasted case is ugly. I have regrets about purchasing it and would love to send it back I think it is that unappealing. However I don't feel it is the sellers problem because of my stupid choice so I won't do that to them. The face is great and easy to read. The accuracy is phenomenal it gains 6 seconds every day. Which for an automatic watch is great! Now that I'm stuck with it maybe a leather strap will dress it up a little...

      My 4R35 is +3 a day. I believe 4R36 is just including the day…? It’s rated way worse, though. I hear it’s mainly a luck of the draw

    I liked your video and the quality was quite good. However, you moved the watch around so much it made me slightly disoriented trying to focus on the watch. The watch was continually in motion and should have been more static.

    My SRPG63 has this 4R36 caliber, it's good enough, but really not accurate like you said, factory at +45 / -35 _ i check it often, as a new watch, so it has not been as bad as the factory specs out, but fairly close. . . :>/

    I have both , Hammilton and Seiko 5 and the Seiko is a far better financially and performance just as good as the Hammilton

    Pulsar makes some really interesting field watches. They may not have automatic movements, but the
    Pulsar Solar PX3223X, I purchased during a sale. The big plus is that Pulsar watches come with a Seiko 3 year warranty. A good watch, at a good price, with a good warranty period.

      Please no offense but I liken quartz movement to electric cars. There effencient , good gas mileage but there is something about a gas motor. "Automatic"

      Pulsar Lorus Seiko it's all the same company Seiko make solar powered watches as well, the best watch is the one you wear with pride, you like the look of and fulfills your requirements just don't spend money to appease someone who thinks that their opinion is worth more than yours, especially when their opinion is likely to cost you lots of money.

    can you re-measure your wrists? I have 6" and a 51mm lug-to-lug at 44m just covers the whole flat side of a wrist. But a 39 looks the same on your 7"? I'm confused

    Checked it out at a local watch store. Not a fan. Very thick, especially with the supplied band that runs under the watch. Had to rotate the wrist fully to get a good view of the face. Picked up a SUR493 instead. Not a chronometer but good looking. YMMV

    Beautiful watch, but the mineral glass/hardlex crystal is an insurmountable obstacle to me buying it. I would have happily paid more for sapphire with the understanding that a domed sapphire would be costly.

    I love you have your mallet out. That really came in handy during the video. You are a real watch maker. I have the same mallet. Came in my $18 watch tool kit. 7" wrist? Seriously that is skinny for an adult man. I could not have a watch that is plus/minus 15 secs/day... Why wear something that inaccurate. Might as well get a quartz and be done with it. Watch is to keep accurate time.

    This watch came one year too late. Also I found lake and sons an American company from Missouri with the same setup but has the NH35 movement for $130. Check it out. Outside of the Seiko badge and day/date feature the watch Is a bargain compared to $275 you send for this watch.
