Had my SRPG27 for a month and remain impressed with its wearability. Instantly readable time, with rugged shell and comfortable bracelet and just a few seconds off in timekeeping. Looks good on my 202mm wrist.
I just bought this exact watch from Teddy for $220. My first automatic, and its perfect for me- the day/date/24-hour clock, the size, the weight, the looks. I actually came back to this video because his review tells me more about it than Seiko themselves. Stellar channel.
I just bought one. I love it. Being an officer in the Royal Navy, I may find myself being rather wet (i.e. submerged in water) on occasion, for rather long and indeterminate periods of time, when it isn't my idea and I don't get a vote (i.e. I can't simply decide that I'm not going to be wet any longer). I need a watch that can take that kind of abuse in action working dress, but then also looks fine to wear to a mess dinner later that week. I also need a watch that is not too expensive and is reliable. This is that watch.
I just ordered this watch, got it from Macy's for $211 out the door. I figured for the price you couldn't go wrong. I'm just getting into the watch game and really like Teddy's videos. Keep it up sir.
Almost bought the SRPD65K4, I think I just wait a bit longer for this in my local dealer. Hamilton fields are beautiful but a bit pricey for a beginner like me, but finally SEIKO answers my prayers for tactical-looking automatic watches with decent features and entry-level prices.
Tempted to get one of these. Funny how these cheap folded link bracelets with hollow end links and pressed clasps never seem to break on these budget Seikos and are often extremely comfortable yet they seemed to be absolutely loathed by so many in the community!
I just bought the watch and automatically bought a solid link milled clasp band for the skx, I have received the watch before the bracelet and might cancel the solid 2 link bracelet. Seiko's 1 link folded link bracelet feels and looks amazing. It just sounds horrible lol. I don't care about the sound.
Teddy B, you legend! THANK YOU FOR THIS! I honestly don't know all that much about Seiko, but the more I see watches like THIS, the more I am so charmed over by them!
I love Teddy's narration: Twelve minutes of to-the-point beautifully articulate wristwatch review, without any of the "uhhh...ummm" that you hear from many of his RUclips competitors. Another great review Teddy!
Agree about the lack of umms etc and his reviews are insightful but his word articulation isn’t great. He doesn’t enunciate his words very clearly. Jody on Just One More Watch speaks much more clearly imo.
I have a Presage Cocktail time with the same movement. (And a MiniTurtle with the very similar 4R35) This 4R36 is neatly precise! My checkings shows a precision around +/- 10 seconds per day. Very silent and smooth rotor! With a sapphire cristal, this SRPG will be perfect!! Also, no comparison with SNG's Sports. As a Seiko fanboy myself, this SRPG is on whole new level.
I've had mine for 2 years, it's my daily driver. Consistently +/- 3 to 7 seconds per day with a timegrapher app. I sync it up to my "atomic clock" app on my phone about every week, it's usually about 20 seconds off. Just got some new straps for it but haven't yet tried any of them out. The crystal does scratch easily but it's also not too bad. I love this watch.
Just picked this watch up NATO strap though Extremely comfortable And the style plus features at under 300 dollars is just awesome Hacking, hand winding, day, date, 12 luminous indexes and luminous hour and minute and even luminous second hand, and great accuracy out of the box (+12 s/day for me) is fantastic Worth every penny and I bought two as Christmas presents
Great video I was planning on saving up for the Hamilton Khaki, but I saw this piece on sale for just under $200 and this video pushed me over the edge. Can’t wait for it to get here!
Got the SRPG39 (same watch, but with a blue dial and a leather strap) and like it. The 4R36 is a reliable movement, and pretty accurate. Makes for a good everyday watch - but is nice enough to pass as a dressy watch due to to the leather strap. With a metal bracelet or rubber strap, this would be good for swimming or snorkeling (100m water resistance). The price is reasonable, too. Recommendable.
I originally purchased my Seiko 5’s as a daily wearer. I quickly grew to the point where I liked to wear it more than any other watch. The wife loves hers too. It keeps the more expensive watches on the sidelines (Omega’s)… but we do like the Seiko’s a lot. A favorite for when we travel as well. Great looks and accuracy. And if it did get stolen, just buy another one.
I love the aesthetics, affordability, utility, versatility and how understated this watch is. This watch is perfect and I need one now lol. So Teddy Im heading to your store to get one. It has to be the best automatic watch under $300.
A year ago I wanted a first wear-everyday mechanical watch, and decided on the SNK809, partly because of its history, fame and look, but also BECAUSE of its size. I always wear a watch, but cannot bear having a giant watch on my arm. I used to wear a Fossil which is perfectly usable, but at 42mm is simply too big. I will keep my SNK forever but I'm definitely eyeing the SRPG39, which at just under 40mm's is till a good size for me, and incorporates more modern features and looks great for the money.
@@deepanshusharma9173 It's quite good. Power reserve is supposed to be 41 hours but mine usually stops after 36 if I don't wear / wind it all the time. I don't wear it every day; if I did, it would last the full 41 hours. Band is comfortable. Accuracy is plus/minus 10 seconds a day. Recommended.
Im debating on my first seiko purchase being an SRPG27 or SSB397. Just found your content and love that you look out for us small guys on the come up! 💪🏽 keep it coming
I like that the indices are applied instead of painted on. I bought a brand new Seiko 5 dress watch for 20 bucks and it’s dial face is better looking than the Baby Alpinest. The Alpinest has painted on numerals and cost 650 bucks. The new Seiko 5’s are definitely a hidden gem.
I’m not usually big on Seiko, but I’m gonna have to pick one of these up. Even as a field watch, I still find myself wanting to baby my Khaki’s a little. Something like this would take a beating without hurting your heart too much lol
It’s funny about the community always unhappy with the 37mm case of the 800 series. While I agreed to begin with. Over time, the 37mm has become something I adore on my 807. So much so, I just grabbed an 809 as well yesterday. It’s funny, what you consider small initially, you can really grow to love for that very reason.

i totally agree. when i first got my 807 i thought ah no this is a bad buy. but over time i took it more and more out of the watchbox and got attached to it. on the right strap its a really nice looking watch
I just purchased this watch from The Hudson Bay Company MRSP at $350 CDN. I was able to buy this with my HBC management discount at $183 CDN. Definitely worth the money at the discounted price...Great review Teddy! 🤙🏽
Just as I was getting ready to buy a Hamilton khaki field mechanical! Update: thanks to the individuals in the comments who shall remain nameless (Teddy), I just bought it!
I love the fact that it has RPG in its model number as a connection to its military-inspired looks. Design-wise Seiko strikes again, and continues to premiumize in terms of pricing.
This a great watch spec for the money. Good size and movement. Day/date is what I personally like for a field watch. Would be great with sapphire crystal but it’s understandable for the price point. Good mid step towards the alpinist. I wouldn’t mind replacing my solar SNE329 with this model which I wear while swimming or working around the house, walking around or general weekend non-desk job activities.
I miss my old Seiko field watch that was stolen by a college roommate. I've since got an Omega SMP and a Speedy Pro, but part of me wants to get one of these as a daily beater. Either way, an excellent value for anyone looking for a decent auto.
I wore a small Citizen field watch for 2 years. It is a good watch with GOOD lum, but it is a little too small for my preference. I also wanted an automatic watch, which the Citizen was not. After about half-a-year of research, I settled on buying this Seiko on a NATO strap. The size is perfect and I love the atheistics of it. I finally found that my favorite parameters for watch sizes are between 38mm-39mm. This fits great. Yet, it does not have good lum. I, then, started looking for a GREAT lum watch. I settled on a Lum-Tec watch, which is absolutely outstanding! Yet, I still come back to this Seiko as my daily EDC for the simple fact that it has a day/date window.
I just bought a beautiful vintage automatic Seiko with day date for about $30 on eBay. Works perfect. A much cheaper way to go. There are lots of them too.
I would love to buy this, but I already have an SNK809, a Hamilton Khaki, and a Rolex Explorer. Feels like I would just be buying a redundant watch. If I didn't own the SNK809 I would probably get this one. Nice watch nevertheless.
For your circumstance, I agree. Sign of mature collector when they can determine when a watch doesn’t have a place in their collection despite being a cool piece.
Teddy you have inspired me to buy watches I love them so much I became obsessed I started off with nothing but timex for now but I have a GM-B2100 gshock which is my most expensive at 550$ and a couple of times automatics worth around 200-250$ but I just got this seiko 5 from macys and I can’t wait to receive it 🤞
Pretty decent. I snagged the black dial on bracelet and the blue with Khaki numerals w/ blue leather strap for 222 Dollars each with free shipping and 2 year warranty. Not to bad.
Hi Teddy. I’ve been watching your videos for a while. I was wearing the Casio Duro for a good while and now I finally just bought my first automatic watch which is this Seiko SRPG27. I was debating between this watch and the newer Seiko SSK023 GMT. I ended up valuing the day-date over the GMT currently but I think I might just have to get both haha! I wanted to thank you for all of your help and your excellent advice. I thoroughly enjoy your videos and your professional take on watches. The world of these mechanical and automatic watches has opened my eyes to wonder what else could be powered by the beautiful mechanical movements of these watches! I haven’t watched all of your videos yet but I was wondering if you have done a video looking into how various watch movements are built and developed and what kind of novel movements you would like to see in the future.
Just for your info, I have a Seiko SRPG27 since about a month now, I had set the watch at the exact second of my phones clock, and it did shift less than a second in about a month... I knew Seiko is know for being pessimistic on their watch precision, but I have to say I am so surprised and impressed by the actual accuracy of by 270€ Seiko SRPG27.
Always had a soft spot for seiko, was gifted a sports 150 for my 21st 30 years ago which started my love of black dials. I now have a few but the SNK for me as an owner of a small wrist is fantastic. That said I will be getting one of these
Great objective and descriptive review man love your stuff especially when you called out MVMT to the owners face! I just got the blue gold blue face watch on black leather bracket and the weatherd finish for 180 at Macys and it’s amazin!!
Would have loved to seen Seiko commission a white dial with this model, however all things considered I’m glad that they’ve brought those lugs more into the curve of the case.
Really appreciate the review. A nice offering at an affordable price point for an everyday watch. For the extra $200 I would just get the Hamilton which is a better watch and a lot slimmer (Seiko @ 13.2mm vs. Hamilton @ 9.5mm) so it would be more comfortable on my seven-inch wrist.
I have the SNZG15K1 and at 42mm it is a larger watch. My wrist is 8" however and proportionally it looks fine. I did put a day/date magnifier on it as I needed one for my eyesight.
I think the 7s2x are under appreciated and its really a matter of perspective in considering whether the 4r3x is an upgrade or not. Back in the day the non hand winding movements like the 6206 or 6309(not cheap then, nos not cheap now) were considered ‘true automatics.’ Hacking and handwinding adds complications that can fail, not to mention a watch’s #1 vulnerability - the user. There are even old ww2 fliegers and field watches that don’t hack. not sure what the obsession is.
As a non-Seiko fan (too many bad experiences), my SNK809 with the NH36 movement is near perfect. I'm a big guy (6'3") but I love the smaller diameter that doesn't get in the way of my wrist or my life at all.
This is more or less the kind of watch I've been looking for. Love the look of the dial, but I'm sad there's no lume on the numbers. Would also love to see a white dial version.
Couldn't find a Hamilton Khaki in Thailand so I bought an olive green Seiko 4R36 instead. Therapeutic hand wind and saved a bunch of cash, great value.
@@raditojr.lincaro554I've mine for 2 years, it's my daily driver. Got one in blue versión, SRPG29, with the additional sunburst going from dark blue to deep black, astonishing! . Is beutifull, very weareable in the field and the office with out breaking the bank account
I wish that whoever designed the numerals would've put more effort on them; the number 9 marker cutout is awful! Overall is a great looking Seiko, great review as always Teddy.
I have two SNGZs that I really like. I put sapphire crystals on them and their much better now than the old scratched up hardlex. Now I think I'll keep them because I don't feel the need the 4 r36 necessarily and I like the bigger size of the SNGZ, but this was a great review and now I know I don't need to get this watch! Thank you.
I have one and it's my go to watch for wear in bad weather. Rain, sleet, snow it's fantastic. All I wish they did was make the numerals white. The dial is a too dark at times for legibility.
So glad to see a few reviews and discussions on RUclips about this watch, and especially from you! Just seen this and it really really did grab my attention from a near Orient mako 2 purchase to be honest! Like a lot of what the Orient is offering, but it's just that little wobbly crown and a tad too much just a paint finish dial rather than this lovely sunburst dial when comparing the blue dials together...but I really need to ask you Teddy, as I've seen this very watch on a site of a major Japanese site, then searching it on Amazon and seeing it there....comparing the two watches, the pictures anyway, near identical, and I mean in just about every way, and when looking hard I may actually be able to notice I think on both dials it states even the same movement inside to! However....!...on the Amazon uk site it's got some other sort of reference and sold as some other name, whereas on the Japan based site, it's just like this one you're showing here...!...with 'made in japan' in the dial, and also with a very different code or name set for it! Is it usual for Seiko to assign different names and also to omit logos or 'made in japan' print off international versions,.?...or are there indeed any differences? Other than the extra 88 British pound sterling import duty I'm going to have to pay?
This seems like an upgrade to the SNZG series. I really hope they update the SNK800 series. I love the flieger look and want another affordable, sub 40mm option.
Seiko should make this watch in a 37 or 38 mm case and without the day-date complication (and a resulting thinner case). I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Might even buy two of them.
What I think? It's my favorite affordable watch with anything one needs (100m Water Resistance, Handwinding, Hacking for precise setting, Day and Date). What do I want with a much more expensive watch missing the Day or even the Date? This Seiko has it all for less!
I’m really thinking about buying this very model. I have an SRPD89 and I love it. I want to upgrade my Timex Expedition to an automatic field watch and I was thinking about saving for a Khaki but its just too much of a stretch for me at almost $600. If I’m going to save that much, I’d rather put aside $1000 for a Mido Ocean Star, a Junghans Max Bill or a Mido Multifort Patrimony. But I really like the SRPG27- it looks like a Khaki and its still a high quality piece. It would be super fun to have next to my SRPD, my Bambino, and my Marlin Auto.
Really like the look of this one and I don't have a feild watch in my collection yet. Can't quite decide if I should pay the extra a pick up the Hamilton though 🤔
Only if you want a thinner, lighter, more accurate, sapphire crystal watch that is a true classic timepiece. Buy the seiko only if you need to save the money.
Typically NOT a Seiko fanboy but pulled the trigger on the blue dial version for $199. This a just a nice little "everyday" beater that will fit nicely in my collection however, that hideous band WILL be replaced with many decent straps. At least Seiko thought ahead a little and gave us drilled lugs.
1. Good entry watch 2. Great beater 3. Strap monster 4. Excellent price Dudes, the watch fills a niche. I am never going to wear an expensive watch to work, a day on the roller coasters , camping, fishing, kayaking, water skiing, working out, etc. watches like this are perfect and have great style.
Had my SRPG27 for a month and remain impressed with its wearability. Instantly readable time, with rugged shell and comfortable bracelet and just a few seconds off in timekeeping. Looks good on my 202mm wrist.

Lucky you, I lose about 15 seconds a day on my watch.
Honestly, the design alone, just something about it hit home with me... Had to order one after a little bit of consideration! Great video also!
A very good update to this series... I can't wait for Seiko to bring an update to the turtle mini!!
Would have loved to seen Seiko commission a white dial with this model, however all things considered I’m glad that they’ve brought those lugs more into the curve of the case.
This oysterlike strap are perfect on a Tudor bb58
Great! I've been hoping you would review this👍
Really appreciate the review.
I think they nailed it. Absolutely hit the balance as far as my preferences personally.
Bought the SRPG37K1 today and my god it is a nice watch, love it!
It's just me or the hands of the SNK800 series are still the best looking ones?
Best design trait of that watch!
It's not just you, I wish this new watch had those hands
The second hand is identical to my Ray2 second hand :=)
I agree.
Just picked up the sbsa119 (blue & 2 tone variant). Wildly impressed
I think Seiko have knocked this one out of the park. Great watch for the price on sale here in Australia for only $370 AUD
$325 aud ebay!
@@NathanChisholm041 cheers bruz!
I bought this watch recently, I absolutely love it. The only thing is that the crystal scratches quite easily. So be careful.
how about its accuracy?
@@raditojr.lincaro554 i haven't noticed anything off, as of now. So it's ok.
@@raditojr.lincaro554I've mine for 2 years, it's my daily driver.
Getting one, as my first automatic watch
I have an SRPG41 and I love the look of it.
Got one in blue versión, SRPG29, with the additional sunburst going from dark blue to deep black, astonishing! . Is beutifull, very weareable in the field and the office with out breaking the bank account
Firstly lots of thanls for showing those olds seiko 5 featuring the old logo. i really adore them. but new one. damn........i wont say anything
Heading to dealer once I get back to town. I can not resist it.
Thank god for the white on black wheel. One of my favorite design features in my SNK809.
We can't forget the SNK381. It's in my opinion the best field watch dial Seiko makes. I gifted mine to my thirteen year old daughter.
This could be an interesting modding platform depending on actual sales price. Just swap the dial / hands to what ya want.
I wish that whoever designed the numerals would've put more effort on them; the number 9 marker cutout is awful! Overall is a great looking Seiko, great review as always Teddy.
Now I can’t unsee it. You’re right. It’s terrible.
They honestly probably put alot of thought into probably just different taste
This looks really good! Seiko do make decent looking watches. The specs to cost ratio though ….. 🤷
Thank you.
Another long advert for the watch store. It's fair enough! 👍great vid as always
I bought this watch! I totally love it.
Looks amazing personally I’ve got no problem with Hardlex crystal . Looks better with the James Bond NATO .
tadinya saya mau seiko srpg37k1, cuman beberapa minggu ini saya lebih kepincut ke seiko srpb17k1, dial merah nya menggoda ❤️
It's got drilled lugs! That's awesome! It's a pain in the arse to try to change bracelets/straps on undrilled lugs!
Definitely looks better (great) on a nato strap. The slightly larger size is welcome.
This seems like an upgrade to the SNZG series. I really hope they update the SNK800 series. I love the flieger look and want another affordable, sub 40mm option.
Another Seiko classic. Surely it would look better with date only or no date though.
Very good review.
Would be helpful if the different dial colors were shown too.
It looks like Hamilton. Love it. Will buy one, the 35 variant.
Day date is super useful in the field. I often lose track of what day it is when wearing a date only watch.
I think i will buy one, this Seiko 5 looks nice
Really like the look of this one and I don't have a feild watch in my collection yet. Can't quite decide if I should pay the extra a pick up the Hamilton though 🤔
Go for the Hamilton
Only if you want a thinner, lighter, more accurate, sapphire crystal watch that is a true classic timepiece. Buy the seiko only if you need to save the money.
The JDM reference is SBSA111 for those looking to get it straight from Japan.
I plan on starting my search as soon as I find out the model for a blue dial version
1. Good entry watch
2. Great beater
3. Strap monster
4. Excellent price
Dudes, the watch fills a niche. I am never going to wear an expensive watch to work, a day on the roller coasters , camping, fishing, kayaking, water skiing, working out, etc. watches like this are perfect and have great style.
I like how you describe this watch, it's truly a great value for money. A workhorse watch for everyday use.
I have the older version (SNZG13) but this looks even better. I loved the domed glass. The older version is flat and now I want to mod it...
Domed!!
@@NathanChisholm041 oh yeah
They killed it on this one! Black day/date - what?! Not a field watch guy, but this may go on my short list.
