How do you propagate the monkey tail cactus? I was gifted one from my neighbor and it’s LONG and a little unruly so I’d like to cut it back but I wasn’t sure how!
Hi Kayla :-D you can prune the Monkeys tail very easily by cutting back from the base and allowing the cutting to fully callus over a few days before planting into well draining soil and treating as a cutting, Here is a link to a video I have made when I had cuttings of my other Monkey's tail cactus the golden one but the process is the same as with all the Monkey's tail cacti :-D ruclips.net/video/X0bQ6bms8co/видео.html thanks so much for watching and sending you an abundance of love and happiness and PLANT POWER from across the Emerald Isle for a wonderful Wednesday XXXXX
What product do you use on the cutting to protect them
Hi Teresa :-D I use pure cinnamon powder to put on the cuttings as it acts as a natural fungicide, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching, and have a wonderful Wednesday today XXXX

Hi Lynne I love your monkey tail cactus. I got 4 stems about a year ago they going well
I wish I bought more stems to make it more bushy🤗🪴
I’d love to know if you could propagate these type of cactus plants
Thats wonderful news you have got 4 stems of this beautiful cactus that are growing well, you can definitely propagate them by taking cuttings of the stems, its best to propagate them in Spring as they root much easier in Spring, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a terrific Tuesday XXXX
@@desertplantsofavalon
I was wondering when you cut a stem would I get one or two new babies from the mother
plant stem?🪴🤨.
It would be nice to get two, but help me know when or size to cut🤗🥰
@@ddyukon6369 Hi there, its best to take cuttings that are at least 3 inches in size, and the spring is the best time to take cuttings, from the cutting you will get three or more babies that will grow up from the main Cutting and the cutting will eventually turn into a multi branched Plant from the main cutting where the new pups will grow, it can take a couple of years or more for the pups to grow from the main cutting, as the cutting will put its energy into producing a good root system first, when you take the cutting its really important that you wait for a month to 6 weeks for the cut end to completely dry 'callus over' before planting into dry cactus soil, XXXX
@@desertplantsofavalon
Thank you so much for the info
I’ll be watching my cactus grow for a few more years, to get longer and fatter
it’s grown couple of inches since I got it 🤗🌵🥰

Lynn, do you have this plant under rain and sun? If not, how much sun and watering do you give it? Thanks.
Hi Joanne :-D yes from Spring until early Fall I keep this palnt outdoors with rain and full sun, I do bring it inside the polytunnel if we have a few days of rain in the Summer as I like the soil to dry out in between waterings, but this Summer we had a good one haha :-D I overwinter in inside the polytunnel from now until early May :-D and keep it totally dry and with no water until the Spring :-D thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER from the Emerald Isle for a wonderful new week XXXXX
Desert Plants of Avalon I live in Puerto Rico (Caribbean). I bought one from England a month ago. It arrived in perfect conditions. After I potted it and watered it I noticed it was too wet so I repotted it and I water very little every 7 days and she’s inside my terrace. I just notice some brownish on the cactus (very little). Is this normal? Thanks fir your knowledge and I just love all of your videos 🤗🤗
...... Love that Monkey's Tail that has all the hair like a pet ......... Beautiful!! ..... I've Never heard you sick at all before Lyn ..... Even if it's just a cold ....... Please take care and get well soon!!! ....... Say hi to Hans for me ...... Much love to you both ..........

Why is one of them more "hairy"?
Hi, the Cleistocactus colademonsis is more hairier because these cacti produce the hairs to protect them from stronger sunshine in their natural habitats, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful Wednesday XXXX
Hi Lyn. Your flowering cacti look beautiful. They have just reminded me to ask you...I have a large old Dolichothele Camptotricha cactus which belongs to my Mum (in looking after it for now). Its outside in garden and it was recently gifted to her from an old lady. Really want to keep it healthy. Its still profusely flowering but i have reduced water now and it's in a mini greenhouse shelf with the cover left open so it can start to dry out now for rest period as Its in such a deep large plastic pot- cactus is 25 cm or so wide loads of clumps. Can I bring it indoors since This variety dislikes humidity and worried it will stay damp outside if I zip up the plastic cover and will it need light over autumn/winter (can I dry store it in unlit area)as it's so big it won't fit on any windowsill in my house . It really needs repotting and roots checked etc. shall I wait for spring now as dont want to disturb it too much. Lyn can you suggest what I should do with it?
I want one but have no idea where to get one.
Most places sell seeds have horrible reviews and use the same stock photos.
Where did you get yours?
Hi Francis :-D I was very lucky as I bought this from my friend who had bought it from a German nursery but he no longer sells them, this plant is definitely hard to get, XXXXX
Ugh yeah I’ve noticed. I love them and I’m super envious.

So sorry for only just catching up with my mails now Ben LOL! thanks so much for your wonderful comments and for watching and sending tons of love and happiness and PLANT POWER from across the Emerald Isle for a terrific Thursday XXXXX
They are beautiful!! I especially like the first one...do you leave them out in the rain or do you protect them when raining? Thanks!
So happy you love these beauties Terry :-D I have just brought in these cacti into the polytunnel as we have had a lot of rain and big storms the past few days but I normally leave them outside in the rain until the weather gets cooler, but I will keep them inside the polytunnel from now to allow time for the soil in the pots to dry out before Winter kicks in :-D thanks so much Terry for your wonderful comment and for watching and sending tons of love and happiness and PLANT POWER from across the Emerald Isle for a terrific Thursday XXXXX
Desert Plants of Avalon I have two cuttings that I just bought! They both have roots, but I’m not sure how much I should water them. What do you recommend? I love this cactus SO much, and I really want to take care of it right! :)
Gorgeous, Love! I've been keeping my eyes open for a Monkey's Tail cactus for about a year now. Haven't found a vendor with good credentials yet here in the United States. If anyone knows of a grower, I'd love to hear about them! Many thanks for the video!
Try Etsy. I just bought three young ones off a seller JCSucculentsLLC, but I bought all they had left and now they're sold out 😓
I just ordered one from Etsy. Ordered seeds from Israel as well. Many thanks for the suggestions!

@@desertplantsofavalon thank you sooo much for your response. I'll check that website out. Again thank you so much and I enjoy seeing your beautiful garden.
you've also misspelled it on the intro here ... colademononis is proper ... you've spelled it colademonosis ... again, not an opprobrium ... trying to help ... hope these notices have not hurt your feelings.
