Hey guys! I also just added in the description a link to my video discussion on where to buy Orchids and there is a list of stores in the description of that video too! Also you can watch it here too ☺️ ruclips.net/video/dSkJ03xSLQI/видео.html
At university they told us all about how difficult it is to grow orchids from the seed. They told us its easier to clone an orchid than to germinate it. So most orchids sold in shops are "clones".
Thank you for that. I was one of them buying monkey face seeds. Nothing grew. At all. Now i know..i also bought rare cactus seeds and nothing happened either. Hmmm...best to buy the plant
Don't get discouraged with cactus seeds yet. Cactus can be very tricky to germinate, in nature they germinate in the cracks of rocks after enduring the winter and a very hot dry summer.
@@thepeacemaker3584 I have tried planting them like normal seeds, and it works with the common cactus seeds from the supermarket, but others need stratification, that is puting them in very hot water for some time (from 3 minutes to 30 minutes) before planting them. I have yet to try that method.
Rareseeds on Etsy is actually a reliable seed source! Cacti need specific conditions to germinate but it can be done! i currently have frailea mammiffera from a friend i'm starting from seed
Wow, I never knew this was a scam. I thought I'd just been sowing them incorrectly or just unlucky at getting any to germinate. I've purchased all kinds of flower _seeds_ from EBAY. Even bought bags of 'growing medium' for lady slipper orchids because I fell for that, too. Never again, thanks for the heads up!
Awww so sad! How many people feel bad about thier gardening skills because they can't grow the scam seeds most of which are such poor quality they won't grow :(

Here a scam, there a scam, everywhere a scam scam. I bought flower seeds at a grocery store twice. Each year they grew but looked like weeds. The store cannot tell either if it's a scam. Tja.
Orchids actually creates a symbiotic relationship with Mycorrhizal fungus. The fungus provides water and minerals while the orchid gives sugar(glucose) to the fungus. Once you see an Orchid Protocorms, you'll notice that the grain like orchid sprouts is hanging in a silk, and that thing is actually the Mycorrhizal fungus.
I have had a Phal orchid for about 5 years , it’s done nothing lol just barely surviving , with a couple leaves and a couple roots . Now it’s doing particularly bad , new media and good water but no change ! Who the heck knows !! Lol thanks for the videos !
It looks like a flower ive grown put before or. More likely it really looks like the lesser ragweed in my garden. I pull a lot of them lol. I learned a long time ago to not buy online. Unless its a real company. I have done trades of heirloom seeds with an online community and had better luck finding rare/unique veg. But even then not all seed savers save meticulously. Good video! 😊 i was betting they were carrot seeds. 🤣i would like to ask if it's possible to encyclia & cattleya type orchids get black spots on leaves on new growth due to repotting? Last year i repotted my dowiana and cordigera. Cordigera did not have good roots, but dowiana had. I saw similar symptons on anothers cattleyas repotted last year in spring, but not so several like dowiana. 🥺 Older leaves didn't get any spots. This year new growths do not have black spots, even if they only have a few. Orchids stay in my living room, i don't use humidifier nor i spray leaves with water. I wind the room regularly. I only spray MOG's pesticides sollution twice a year. 🥰
OK first thing the seeds that germinated are dicots orchids are monocots. Orchid seeds do have a seed coat but lack endosperm the food resevere most seeds have, Yes you can have orchid seed germinate without doing the lab process but for most orchids you are lucky to get one seedling. I remember in college there was a how to grow orchids book that pre-dated Knudson-C media. I n the calendar of orchid care there was a note to trim your live sphagnum moss in anticipation of your seed pods ripening. The following orchids I have had volunteer in the nursery. Spathoglottis pilcata, these are almost weeds, Bamboo orchids Arundina graminifolia, once again an almost weedy plant,. Now for the fun stuff Epidendrum nocturum Nice to go into your shade house and see these growing in a stag horn mount. Cyrtopodium punctatum some of these came up where the wood joints of the greenhouse benches were rotting. Jewel orchids Ludisia discolor I tried to set seed pods on this species first you need two different clones and thing I didn't realize is the pods can burst in less than a month the result were quite a few phals that had baby jewel orchids coming up in them. Habenaria rhodochelia second verse same as the first pods mature in about a month so the result was the next year some phals had them blooming in the pot. Paphiopedilum bellatulum we had brought in some of these from Thailand that had some seed pods on them and next thing I noticed was seedlings here and there among the other paphs. The main reason the lab method is used is the quantity of seedlings produced is so much greater. Remember the Cyrtopdium punctatum I had two or three seedlings volunteer, A seed pod taken from the the same plant produced hundreds of seedlings if not thousands of seedlings in the lab. Just for a little advice if you are tempted to buy legit orchid seeds. Say you want a Dendrobium cruentum you find a listing on Ebay from Thailand offering seed another person in Thailand will sell you a flask with around 30 platelets in it for say $30 for the flask and $40 for the air parcel post. Looked it up you can buy one as a mount from H&R orchids in Hawaii for $25. For most people the best deal would be to buy the plant from the Hawaiian Nursery. Dry seed is the most iffy way to get orchid plants started and that is dealing with people that are honest. Orchid flasks if you have space and time for a lot of plants to grow and of course a flask shipped internationally will have to be potted into com pots ASAP. since even if it isn't all shaken up there is a real chance of it being cotaminated after all the changes of air pressure while in transit. Right now the only maybe people selling real orchid seed on eBay are in Eastern Europe selling native orchid seed. If they are legit that is not a beginner project , IIRC there is chilling involved and special media needed Enough of my rant for now.
Oh oh, I am worried. Three days ago I ordered sweet pea seeds from Etsy. Although my son who is crazy about tropical plants warned me that most seeds from Etsy and Ebay are fake, I did not listen. I figure it is not expensive so why not try. I am keeping my fingers crossed they will grow and bloom.
We need to start telling folks that Orchids start as spores not seed. We grow those spores in sterile agar medium in a lab. Than grow them up to bloom size which is 3-10 years depending on the orchid. Some folks are very lucky and if they have a cool native orchids seedpod and a mossy board or tree/ rocks you can add the microscopic seed to water in a spray bottle and saturate the area with a spray bottle and let nature handle things. This can be done with tolumnia in the bahamas. Mist a tree and it will be covered. Oncidiums in south america can be done similar. Cool right?

They look like weeds I pull out of the garden like Tansy seedlings. One thing to think about, you shouldn’t introduce seeds without provenance to your garden because you may introduce bacteria and diseases that could have a detrimental effect in your area. That’s how Ash and Oak tree die back has happened in Europe. 🌸

When you go to the reviews , "Sir, my plants did not grow. What is wrong?" the replies are "Buy more you must follow the instructions EXACTLY, we are not responsible for customers that refuse to follow instructions properly" And there are also a few fake reviews saying how happy they are with the results.

What is the seed in the middle in the bottom? That's the one I received.
I've seen seeds on eBay that included blue roses, blue tulips, holographic daisies, venus fly traps ( with eyes!) , the glow plants from avatar......
When you go to the reviews , "Sir, my plants did not grow. What is wrong?"
the replies are "Buy more you must follow the instructions EXACTLY, we are not responsible for customers that refuse to follow instructions properly"
And there are also a few fake reviews saying how happy they are with the results.
So if we have to propagate the seeds in a lab, how does the orchid do this in the wild??
With the help of some symbiotic fungi that live in the same habitat ☺️
Thank you so much for the information, I had no idea
