Thornton is the perfect age to play guys like Pat Garrett in Westerns.
That cameo he had in 1883 was perfect!!!

Billy Bob would have played in Peckinpah films if he has been born earlier

Thanks for uploading this. Seems like TCM showed the unfortunate 2005 Seydor Cut as opposed to the "Turner Cut" (which was Peckinpah's rough cut). A few things: there is evidence that Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid were friends in real life, most notably a quote from Paulita Maxwell (one of the Kid's lovers) where she describes them as inseparable and that everyone even had matching nicknames for the two of them (Garrett was "Big Casino" and the Kid was "Little Casino" because they were always gambling). People seem to get the idea that they weren't friends from Garrett's book, but why would he go out of his way to deny being the Kid's friend if no one at the time was making those claims? Later, one of the members of the Kid's gang wrote a book where he mentions Garrett coming to warn the Kid to leave the territory (just like in the film). As for the seemingly egregious casting of a 35 year old Kristofferson as a 21 year old Billy the Kid, this was not some weird oversight on Peckinpah's part. Peckinpah loved the irony of a guy called "The Kid" being a past his prime burnout. That's kind of the whole point of the film. Casting a 21 year old as Billy would give the aimlessness of his actions a certain spark and vitality that would undermine the whole film.

Totally spot on. The only thing lacking of the "Turner" version is the scene of Pat and his Mexican wife is missing.

As for me, this interview is perfect. I agree with Mr. Thorton, this move is like a painting, the clothes, the furniture, look at things hanging on the walls, things on the tables even the floors, everything is 0riganal it seems like we step back in time. I know guys like Billy Bunch, Just guys hang,n out, outlaws, but not really. This is the A # 1 movie for me, the best I have ever seen.

I'd like to see Thornton play LBJ, who fits his conflicted profile perfectly. In my opinion, Cranston was miscast; his performance was pedestrian and Johnson was Shakespearean - heroic/tragic. Surprising that he hasn't gotten a fitting treatment. Billy Bob?
