Billy and Pete set this up. They were close Friends. It all went down just like it was supposed to. Pete Maxwell is a distant family member of mine and it has been passed down to me that billy lived in Mexico for a few years before he came back to the states. He died of old age not a bullet.
Let's start a petition to Pardon Billy The Kid, William H. Bonney. Despite the controversy surrounding Brushy Bill Roberts' claims to be Billy the Kid, it's important to recognize that his heart was in the right place. His request for a pardon reflects deeper issues of justice. As an underprivileged young orphan, Billy the Kid, faced exploitation and broken promises, such as those made by Governor Lew Wallace who used him to get what he wanted, and discard him with no regard. A fair compromise would have been to grant Roberts' request for a pardon for WIlliam H. Bonney, regardless if they granted his claim to be Billy The Kid or not. This approach would have addressed historical grievances. Today that can still happen, Pardon Billy The Kid.. its' a wrong that needs righting.
I knew Max Garrett when I WAS A KID , Max was Pat's nephew . MAX OFTEN SAID William or Billy wasn't killed in Texas . Max told Billy was older the him but knew him .
Truth is a beautiful thing… it’s amazing how often the history, we grew up believing like it was gospel… wasn’t true at all. Brett, I first ran across you, when I was fortunate enough to find William Tunstill’s interview of Ola Everhard.. it was intriguing, the longer I listened to Mrs. Everhard, the more her story had a ring of truth. I have looked forward to every video you have posted since then.. you are very meticulous, in your research, and you have a voice, and delivery, that is pleasant to listen to.. I hope you will continue your work, I believe it’s worth the effort, and I appreciate you sharing it with us..
I hope my contention is correct ,since i have put myself into this debate , this is absolutely the most interesting mystery i have ever looked with testimonies that can be corroborated and alot of clues to follow up on .
I come from a small town in Alberta Canada and there was rumours an old gentleman who firstl name was Bill was Billy the kid. My father knew him but I never met him I was born late in parents life. It was relayed to me this nieghbour was great with horses and never talked much about his family in the states.
Hence why deluvina cries my bilito cause that was barlows name and her date at the dance earlier that night hence why celsa finds roberts at the same time as deluvina shows up at petes around the same time 3:00 am in the morning and why deluvina was wasnt there at midnight her and celsa were at celsas brothers place
My mother who was Native American told me that Natives used to hide Billy and help him escape. She believed that Billy escaped death and lived out his life elsewhere.
I too am Native American and have heard the same thing that he was hidden by the Native Americans and protected in Indian ways white man will never understand!
She was telling you bed time stories. Billy was killed that night. There would have been little to no chance of Billy interacting with native tribes at the time. If he had, he would have been either turned over in trade or eaten as most of the tribes in the New Mexico and Texas areas had been cannibals.
I'm no expert, but have watched alot of cases, trials and true crime, for over a decade. I seriously doubt two lawmen, hunting one of the most deadly outlaws, would let an unknown man walk past them; carrying a knife AND a revolver, into a dark room with their fellow lawman
@@theodoresmith5272: some of those people who “saw the body” went on to say Brushy Bill was The Kid. Did you know that? It’s not at all improbable that the locals, who adored Billy, would keep the secret in order to protect him from the corrupt “law”, which they despised. It’s not proven that he escaped but it sure the hell ain’t disproven either!
Please post another video!!! I love your content and can't get enough. Brushy was definitely billy. I would give anything to have sat down and talked with him
Exactly, Garrett knew it too, That's why I think it's just a story they made up with the agreement that Billy never go back to New Mexico, Pat probally shot some American schmuck that was a nuisance to the Mexicans and was the same height and build as Billy and they passed him off as Billy.
What seems not possible is if the kid was a cold blooded killer then how did he control himself the rest of his life after the supposed killing of him.
He grew up , his life was changing keeping a low profile in the months approaching the incident at fort Sumner , probably realized that paulita was just a crush and him and celsa were getting serious , hence why celsa disappears from history after fort Sumner , I believe billy Barlow went to the dance that night with deluvina and along with the kid and celsa when they returned celsa and deluvina go to sabals place when Jesus told them of Garrett and Barlow and the kid stayed at silvas to eat , Barlow goes for meat unworried cause he wasn't wanted .
There are some who say that BIlly wasn't a cold blooded killer. He was on one side of a battle brewing against a corrupt goup government people. When this corrupt group of people murdered his boss, Billy and others were sworn in as police officers to bring in the murderers. It just got ugly from there.
Yeah, he killed those who killed not just his boss but a man who gave him a chance and loyalty was Billy's biggest traits. I'm Irish so should be rotting 4 the other side but loyalty is such a hard quality to find in people.
@@ArchStanton-xx6sj yah but I'll bet that's why they let him get away . Cause you really don't think pat Garrett actually killed the kid . Every account I've read says they liked him for being a gentleman , generous to all that was good to him and always doing something interesting , many accounts of friendship.
Nice video Brett. It’s amazing how so many people are determined to hold on to the lie when the truth has so much evidence to back it up. “Alias Billy The Kid” clears up most of these claims with hard black and white documentation.
Think what you said through. Garrett was under heavy pressure. All he wanted (needed) was a body buried quickly without questioning and he was free of this pressure. Truthfully i believe he simply wanted this Billy stuff to end and go away and i truly dont believe he wanted to kill Billy.
Billy died of heart attack, he had a bad heart not many know that but pat garret had not shot him because they were good friends, an elderly lady who was cousin of Jesse James knew all out billy and she said billy had died of heart attack she was there
I think pat n Billy had set it up together cuz that was good friends n even called each other big n Lil casino folks don't give nicknames to just anyone I don't think. At least not ones that ain't cussing them lol. Casino was a term of respect for friendly gamblers pat was big casino n Billy was Lil casino. So it's my belief that thay were perry close . But that my opinion.
Pat and Billy were not " friends" .thats a complete myth. They gambled together sometimes and that was about it . they NEVER rode together and Pat already caught him once before.
I am a retired Police Officer and have looked into Billy and what might have happened. I think the entire thing was a set-up between Billy, Pat and Pete Maxwell, They made up the story of Pat killing Billy on the understanding that Billy never come to the U.S.. I absolutely believe that Brushy Bill Roberts was Billy The Kid, because he knew too much of the right things to not have been him plus the children of Alexander McSween who knew Billy VERY VERY well knew he was Billy without a shadow of a doubt because he knew the nicknames that Billy gave them both without having to be told, Roberts just plainly knew too much about minor details that noone other person in the world would know, When interviewing someone there are things that investigators know and don't let out to public as a measuring stick to judge if the person is telling the truth and often try to add false details in to the interview to trip up false claims, Roberts called all those false hoods as falsehoods. While there was never a DNA test on Roberts, teh body that is buried as Billy the Kid and Billys mother there was a DNA test done between Roberts and the several members of the Roberts family and there was no famalial match, Meaning "Bushy Bill" Roberts was NOT a biological part of the Roberts family.
I, respectfully, disagree. I believe that Pete Maxwell conspired with Garrett to kill Billy the Kid because of Billy's relationship with his sister, Paulita. Garrett was friends with Tom and Charlie, who he ambushed and murdered because he believed they were The Kid
The only reason Garrett lived as long as he did is because Garrett was not involved in the murder of John Tunstall. Nearly every single person Billy the Kid killed was either directly involved in the death of Tunstall, or were trying to kill the Kid, himself. Deputy Ball was an unfortunate victim of his escape, but the other Deputy had murdered a friend of the Kid's son in cold blood
@@johnwelch615 Pete Maxwell was reaping the rewards off of Billy by having people pay him in order to meet "Billy The Kid" he's not going to conspire to kill his Golden Goose..... That's taking money out of his pocket. No way he's going to conspire the guy he was making money off of.
@@johnwelch615 No, Pat lived so long because he ran with Billy and the Regulators, Billy had no reason to kill him and noone was going to touch him because they knew if they did then Billy would hunt them down, It's the same reason noone went after Jim French, even after he left to Oklahoma, Noone would touch him because of Billy.
Great work!!! I believe the kid got away and lived out his life under another name. This story makes most sense from what I have listened too or read about. Thanks
Totally impossible. 1. Old cemetery flooded and bits and pieces of many floated aeay 2. What would you compare any dna too? 3. People truly are not even agreeable on his real name. Dna is useless
The thing that i can't believe is that Pete Maxwell would go to bed leaving his door unlocked and people come in his room in the dark without knocking or making their presense known. I would never go in a house in that manner even if i were expected there, a quick way to get shot. The thing about Billy having a gun in one hand and a knife in the other is ridiculous.
hey Brett have you heard the story of Joseph Antrim, billy the kid's brother? It's said he tracked Garrett down in 1882 intending to gun him down, but ended up instead drinking and talking with him for two hours and left saying he "considered the matter settled"?
Brett , good job , your determination to find truth is where all historians should be instead of promoting a legend for monetary reasons . We can always count on you to dig deeper , I share your passion in this mystery , please research bill carr in los Cruces in the fountain murder investigation , I think he was billy and was helping Garrett , and they called him old one eyed bill carr but an eye patch was a trick so that a person could quickly enter an unlit place and have night vision by switching the patch from one eye to the other back before they had electricity .
Brett, fantastic per usual. A little common sense goes a long way when unfolding this story. You have to know, understand and try to think like these men...in order to tell their story. You've done that. You, Mr Valdez, Mr. Tunstill and Mr. Hefner have done a wonderful job. Please keep up the good work.
@brushybret ... I don't want to overstep any boundaries....but, I'd love to ask a couple of questions via email....if you do that sort of thing. If not, I understand.
God bless you my friend you will get thur this rough spot buddy you know alitte over a year ago i was almost killed in my own Truck i made it and you will too trust me i am praying for you you got this
If Billy the kid was such an infamous outlaw, surely there would have been photos of his dead body in death, as with many other dead outlaws of that period? That none were taken does'nt mean anything conclusive, but it sure makes it easy for someone to say that he did'nt die where and when he did.
In an earlier video, I show several letters written by Morrison in which he discusses information given to him by several members of your family. This happens around the 1:00:42 mark. We wouldnt be having endless discussions about the demise of BTK if Pat Garrett had done his job as required and turned BTK's body into the proper local authorities for identification and payment of the bounty. The fact that he didnt left this case unsolved and highly suspicious. Given BTK's high profile as an outlaw I wonder why the authorities never had BTK's body exhumed immediately for identification. I cant say whether PG had a sudden change of heart or he had always intended to protect BTK and help him escape. All I know is the written account of PG killing BTK does not meet the conditions of truthfulness that requires a beginning, an ending, and everything from beginning to the end has to flow and connect. The fact that PG felt he had to kill BTK ( as per our history books) instead of taking him alive makes much less sense than letting him go free and disappear and then faking his death. BTK did PG a favor once and PG returned that favor and they remained friends the rest of their lives. Prove me wrong.
I remember the Time-Life Old west book series had a infomercial when I was a kid and of course there was tidbits here and there about the best known outlaw or whatever but the most part I knew about btk was from Young Guns and the documentary they put with the boxset. I'm not real sure if that's where I got the early years info but the poem said born in Texas and I thought there was a portion of his childhood with New York and Indiana ties?
If you have the book the gunfighters look on page 104 and 105 at the man waving his hat , that my friend is a 29 year old billy the kid or William Henry Roberts also known as alias deputy marshal bill carr.
I’ve heard so many stories about Brushy Bill being Billy the Kid. There are those that don’t want to believe it. Ok fine let’s just leave both of them out. Then I have two questions. What was the rest of Billy Barlow’s life? When/Where/How did Billy Barlow really die?!
@@gdebayona5589 billy Barlow , if he lived moved to Arizona and called himself John miller , in my humble opinion and billy bonney moved to Texas and called himself brushy bill Roberts . Both fit the evidence presented by sederwall ,graves and Sullivan. Brushy's story fits billy the kid and John millers story fits Barlow . Believe it or not .
My question is, if they knew PG killed the wrong man why would they let the people see him? As you stated earlier the women were crying and asked if they could take the body for burying and they let them. It stands to reason (to me at least) if they killed the wrong man they wouldn’t have let them have the body and would have put it on a horse and left with it asap. Maybe I missed something???? The flip side of this Pat Garret got what he gave being killed sitting in his carriage talking to someone I believe, (possibly Jim killer Miller) on a trail, so justice was served in one way or another.
Based on what those involved that night said, I don't believe very many people viewed the body. I go into greater detail and show the supporting sources in the following video. Thanks for watching. ruclips.net/video/MoENksTHowM/видео.html&lc=UgycigMYCRMXLzhvKmd4AaABAg
Another dead giveaway that Pat's story is a lie is when Billy escaped from jail he took Bob Olinger and the deputie's guns. If Pat did shoot Billy, why did he not return those weapons? Why did he not take any personal belongings off of Billy?
The Kid died by Pat Garrett, but his legend never did. The mind and the heart are at a constant duel in this life. In this case considering all the evidence as well as common sensical information, the mind wins out. Brushy Bill is not even a close resemblance of what the Kid would have looked like later and neither is anyone else.
I already published a video debunking the claim that Roberts didn't look like the man in the Dedrick-Upham tintype. In the video, I cite a facial recognition study conducted at the University of Texas-Austin, which was administered by two PhD Scientists, who used the same facial recognition program used by law enforcement agencies throughout the world. Furthermore, the results were verified by two independent arbiters. Thanks for watching. ruclips.net/video/Y8KpyQTdBfkb/видео.htmliters.
He no doubt worked on ranches, most likely in Mexico. You could become anyone that you wanted to be. There would be no reason you would have to ever have to "go to town".
All due respect to, Dr. Valadez...I believe that there are several Old West historians very knowledgeable concerning the Kid that have put to rest that Brushy Bill Roberts was NOT the aged William H. Bonney aka: Billy the Kid., residing in the Great State of Texas. But I'm sure that the "conspiracy" theorists will continue as long as there is any tidbit of doubt?
Several highly reputable historians have come out in favor of Roberts being the Kid. Historians like Dr. Valdez, Dr. William A. Tunstill, Judge Bob Hefner, Dr. C.L. Sonnichsen, E.B. Mann, W.C. Jameson, Frederick Bean, Kenneth Osthimer, etc.etc. I go over the credentials of these men in this video ruclips.net/video/d1j8cM1bgwQ/видео.html Most historians that come out against Roberts repeat the same unsourced claims that have been debunked. They list four primary reason that Roberts wasn't the Kid: 1. That Roberts was illiterate and Billy the Kid could not only read and write but possessed a beautiful handwriting. I debunked this claim in this video, where I show samples of Roberts' handwriting and cite two separate handwriting analyses which verify this ruclips.net/video/4m8H-TwLbFo/видео.html . 2. That Roberts couldn't speak Spanish and Billy the Kid was fluent in Spanish. I debunk this claim in this video: ruclips.net/video/oGVw1RMxjWg/видео.html 3. That prior to claiming to be Billy the Kid, Roberts claimed to be a member of the James Gang. In this video, I debunk this claim and show you how the myth originated ruclips.net/video/lQYrXql6dCc/видео.html 4. That Roberts was really Oliver P. Roberts, who was born in 1879 and therefor couldn't possibly be Billy the Kid. In this video I debunk this claim by using census, employment, and genealogical records. ruclips.net/video/EK9oRxqmee0/видео.html Thanks for watching.
No disrespect to any one! I've watched many, many documentaries on Billy the kid and I don't believe Billy was killed that night either. But I don't believe Robert's was Billy the kid. One of the documentaries did a facial recognition with all the bells and whistle's every angle every distinguishable feature possible and none of them were close. Nose, ears, browse or shape of jaw nothing came close.
I'm not sure what documentary you're referring, but I suspect the comparison test you mentioned was the Kyle study, which was conducted on behalf of the Lincoln County Heritage Trust for the stated purpose of discrediting Roberts. The study has been discredited. In fact, Los Alamos, where the study was conducted, disassociated themselves from it. The study wasn't really a facial recognition study, but rather a "photo comparison study". Furthermore, the gentleman that performed the study, Thomas Kyle, wasn't a professional facial recognition expert, or professional photo comparison expert, but rather a physicist. However, a facial recognition study was conducted at the University of Texas - Austin by two PhD Scientists, who used an internationally recognized facial recognition program, the same system used by law enforcement agencies throughout the world and determined that Roberts and the man in the famous tintype were a statistical match. The results of the study were verified by two independent arbiters. I published a video on this that goes further in detail and contains full source citations. Not even close! I am Billy’s Cousin by his father, connected to my x7 G Grandfather. . Billy got away alright. Nut is Not Brushy. Nor was he John Miller. Garrett let Billy go alright. Billy went to NY. He passed there in 1935, under Alias. I have the records.
I heard this family lore in the mid 70’s. My grandmothers Grandfather (last name Harwell) evidently killed a man in Arkansas after the civil war. He and his oldest son on the run moved to Hico Tx 1880s I guess. Supposedly he met Biily the kid there after his supposed death. Evidently he and the Kid stole a small calf and butchered on the spot for food together. I never heard anything else about Billy the kid and Hico until 2012 or so. Then I learned of this cat Brushy Bill. Maybe so, I have read he wasn’t as bad as made out. I assume like many good young kids today. Get tied up with wrong folks, make stupid decisions and crap out their future
I've always thought that Pat shot the wrong man but he couldnt go back empty handed. He was already in hot water, and he had political aspirations. There is no proof he killed the 1 deputy guarding him. Its theorized he tripped coming up the stairs and his recolver went off.
Yeah Pat had to do something. It was either him or McKinney (I believe it was Kip) that shot the wrong man that night. Pat would have been facing murder charges. Just like Bass Reeves did when he accidently shot and killed his cook.
Both Billy and Roberts were confirmed to be 5'8 tall. Roberts was measured by Morrison, as cited in Alias Billy the Kid. Furthermore, his height was confirmed by the man who prepared his body for burial, Wayne Rutledge. The only known record of Billy's height was recorded by reporter J.H. Koogler, who interviewed the Kid while he was being transported to Mesilla to stand trial for the killing of Sheriff Brady. Thanks for watching.

Your wrong Billy the kid was a woman. Mary Agnes Huggin Heinz. Died as Mary Armory Case. In 1941 Book (The Secret Life of Billy the kid) by Julia Lonergan.
I have that book and I don't find it convincing at all. If Billy was a woman I'm sure Frank Coe, George Coe, Fred Waite, Doc Scurlock, Henry Brown, or any other of the survivors of the Lincoln County War would've noted it, not to mention one of his many girlfriends he had during his days in New Mexico.
I believe not this story 💯 percent, Billy The Kid lived out his days full of joy not looking back until he grow old. The Kid was young and alone, no one to help him but one friend stood out , that friend gunned down without a doubt. The Kid moved on to that day, but kept his friend inside promising to those that hell would be repaid. Without a doubt the Kid stood strong and he moved about, hell was paid for those in the wrong that day, Billy The Kid lives forever so strong moved on in his life so the books could tell his life. Billy The Kid forever lives on in song and grace Billy will never again will show his face.
Yeah they did one. 90+ % match. One guy said he proved Brushy was NOT Billy because of detached earlobes. Problem with that is as we get old our skin saggs and detached earlobes change.
No DNA test has ever been conducted on either Brushy Bill Roberts or the body buried at Ft. Sumner, New Mexico. In the early 2000s, two former Lincoln County Deputy Sheriffs attempted to have the body buried at Ft. Sumner, Catherine Antrim, Brushy Bill Roberts, and John Miller exhumed in order to have DNA tests performed to answer the question once and for all. Unfortunately, the powers that be in New Mexico blocked this effort by filing a series of lawsuits and legal motions that ultimately killed the effort. This is all detailed in The Dirty on Billy the Kid by Steve Sederwall and Billy the Kid: Cold Case by W.C. Jameson. Thanks for watching.
With all due respect and with my OWN research I’ve done with descendants of people from that time Billy the Kid was definitely killed by Sheriff Pat Garrett in Pete Maxwell’s house and his body was identified by some people including a woman who wasn’t Paulita Maxwell but another woman who cleaned his body and prepped him for burial. Too much more info on that night but I don’t have room or time to discuss
The woman you're referring to was Deluvina Maxwell, and she later said that it wasn't the Kid that was killed that night. I made a video on this, which includes full source citations. Thanks for watching. ruclips.net/video/MoENksTHowM/видео.html
@@brushybret Deluvina actually POSITIVELY identified Billy’s body because Pat Garrett didn’t want to go back in the room to see if it was him and she said “They killed my little boy” she was Billy’s surrogate mother and loved him dearly.
BrushY Bill wasn't Billy the Kid. If the kid survived the most likely person was John Miller. Read Steve Seder wall's book. It leaves you with even more questions. I think Billy was killed by Garrett but the story he told doesn't make sense. If Billy was in the house already it makes more sense. It was the Victorian Era, Garrett changed the story to not bring scandal to the Maxwells'. Garett doesn't make himself out to be a fearless hero. I think he was grateful to get Billy before Billy zapped him.
Btk may very well have escaped Pat Garrett n hope he did but if you're offering brushy as proof then you need to keep looking, too many holes in his story
@@brushybretHe was illiterate, his grandma said he wasn't billy, he changed his story when it was discovered the tintype was reversed, locals in hico avoided him stating he would corner folks trying to convince them he was billy to name a few. Besides that he looks nothing like him
There are a few problems with your statement. First, Roberts wasn't illiterate. I already published a video showing samples of Roberts' handwriting along with two handwriting analyses, one of which was performed by the New Mexico State Police's Chief Handwriting examiner. Here is a link to that video: ruclips.net/video/4m8H-TwLbFo/видео.html Second, Roberts' grandma never said anything of the sort. In fact, no one even knows who his grandma was. I've been researching Roberts claim for more than thirty years, and that's a first. Usually they try to say it was a niece, or a sister, (of which he had neither), or he was really a guy named Oliver P. Roberts who was born in 1879. I did a video on this and debunked the claim that he was born in 1879 using census, employment, and genealogical records. Here is a link to that video: ruclips.net/video/EK9oRxqmee0/видео.html Third, Roberts never changed his story regarding the reversal of the tintype. He always maintained that he was ambidextrous. He did state that he was more accurate with his right, but faster with his left. Those in attendance at his meeting with New Mexico Governor Mabry noted that he wrote with his right hand and buttoned and unbuttoned his coat with his right hand as well. The statement about him cornering people and being avoided by people in Hico is also not true. This unsourced statement is often made by those who seek to discredit Roberts, but is completely unfounded and not based on facts or evidence. Judge Bob Hefner and Dr. Jannay Valdez present several letters and stories from individuals who knew Roberts during his time in Hico, and they all tell of Roberts being reserved and pretty much keeping to himself. He would sometimes talk about horses, roping, and riding, but that was usually only to individuals he knew, rarely speaking about his past and never revealing himself to being Billy the Kid before meeting Morrison. As far as Roberts not looking like Billy, I completely disagree and already did a video on this as well. Keep in mind that the Dedrick-Upham Tintype image really isn't a fair representation of Billy, Paulita Maxwell stated as such. Also, that image has been heavily manipulated. In John Meigs report to the Lincoln County Heritage Trust in the 1980s he discussed the poor condition of the tintype. Renowned western photograph historian, Robert McCubbin stated that the image was "retouched" by a man by the name of Noah Rose, that resulted in it being completely unrecognizable from the original image. In my video, I present the facial recognition study conducted at the University of Texas-Austin, that was performed by two PhD scientists, who used an internationally recognized facial recognition system, the same system used by law enforcement agencies throughout the world. The study concluded that Roberts and the man in the Dedrick-Upham Tintype were a statistical match. Furthermore, the results of the study were confirmed by two independent arbiters. Here is a link to that video which details all of this ruclips.net/video/Y8KpyQTdBfk/видео.html
@@brushybretthere are a few problems with your statement. Everything I've read says you are wrong. Because we weren't there all we have is whether or not we choose to believe someone else's opinion. All your videos n research will never change my mind cause I can look at the portraits side by side n see they are not the same person. Nuff said
Per you, your sources, stated Roberts "was illiterate, his grandma said he wasn't billy, he changed his story when it was discovered the tintype was reversed, locals in Hico avoided him stating he would corner folks trying to convince them he was billy etc.etc." All of which have been shown to be patently false and not backed up by verifiable evidence. In my videos, I don't ask you to take my word for it, but rather show the supporting documents on the screen. Why can't your sources do the same? Perhaps, it's because they can't show you something that doesn't exist. So let me ask you this, how many times do these neo-historians have to be proven wrong before you stop taking them at their word and start fact checking their claims before parroting them? Do you not care that they're spreading bad information and that you, by proxy, are as well by continuing to repeat these claims, or do you justify these actions as a means to an end? I'm actually working on a paper for a symposium I'm going to be attending early next year on this topic and I would like to include your answers, omitting your name of course, in my presentation. What methods did you use to verify that Roberts was illiterate, that his grandma stated that he was a fraud, etc.etc. If you didn't perform any fact checking, why did you just accept it as fact? How reliable is the source? Is it first, second, or third hand? Did they show you any supporting documents? For instance, if Roberts was illiterate, as you claim, did they show you a document with Roberts signing as an X instead of a signature? I mean, we have several documents signed by Roberts, such as marriage certificates, land deeds, etc. Did you take this into account? If not, why? As far as you're not believing that Roberts looked like the man in the tintype goes, which I completely disagree. Why do you completely disregard the University of Texas-Austin Study? Do you not believe in the science at all, or just in this instance? If so why? Does the fact that the results of the test were verified by two independent arbiters carry no significance to you? If not, why? I find this very fascinating, and I'm not being facetious. I am really interested in your methodology. In my next video, I'm going to touch on the rise of neo-historianism and how it's having a seriously negative impact on historical research and how it's responsible for much of the false information being spread on a multitude of historical topics, not just Billy the Kid. As far as this being more than just a hobby for me goes, yes, it's more than just a hobby. I've been researching Billy the Kid and Roberts claim for more than thirty years. During which, I've served as an archivist in two museums and authored a book on the subject. At first, I didn't believe Roberts was the Kid. However, after attempting to verify the purported evidence against him, I discovered it didn't exist and that upon further investigation, the evidence in favor of Roberts being Billy the Kid far outweighs the evidence against. Thanks for watching, and thanks for taking the time to comment, I do appreciate it...even if we don't agree.
Let's put this stuff do bed once and for all ... We have the one verified authentic tin plate photo of Billy ... Measure the size of the rifle and determine how tall the kid was ! Then find out how tall Lawyer Morrison was in the photo they took together ! Brushy Bill appears to be taller than Morrison so if Brushy Bill is taller than the comparison with Billy's known photo ... Case closed !

When I had the opportunity to interview him while researching my book, he told me Morrison was on the shorter side, and I believe he said he was about 5'5' or 5'6'. I recorded the interview on an old handheld cassette recorder, I might try and clean up the audio and post it on my channel.

“Illegally entering his house in the name of the law.” “Law abiding posse.” I don’t think this section of the narrative works very well regarding the siege of Charlie Bowdrie’s house and holding his wife hostage. However, I’d say that, although this video may offer compelling food for thought, it doesn’t contain any proof of anything whatsoever. I’m always open to the possibility The Kid left Sumner alive that night, I feel this video isn’t enough to be convincing and its title clickbait. Regardless, I’ve always enjoyed your work.
Thanks for watching, and thank you for the comment. The title to the video was exactly as Jannay wrote it, and I didn't want to alter his work in any way. I despise clickbait videos as much as anyone, and definitely wasn't trying to do that.
@@brushybret I understand and can respect that. I think I would have tried to find a way to convey that in the title, perhaps by putting it in quotations and attributing that title to him. Please keep up the great work you do. I’ve enjoyed it quite a lot since I discovered your channel late last year.
@deborahlangnese7645 According to Severo Gallegos, who knew the Kid and witnessed his escaped from the Lincoln County Jail, Roberts and Billy had the same eyes.
How do we know for sure what color eyes Billy the kid had for all the pictures the black and white and you really can't trust anybody when they say he had blue eyes brown eyes black eyes or green eyes
Sorry...Billy was killed by Pat Garrett. No doubt about it. Garrett was paid the $500 dollar reward for Billy. That was a LOT of money at the time. The cheap skates in Santa Fe would not have paid without absolute proof.
Garrett was never paid the reward money. He was compensated via a legislative act after his backers pushed and then got the legislators drunk. Leon Metz, who's considered the leading authority on Pat Garrett, discusses this in his book, Pat Garrett: The Story of a Western Lawman. Pat Garrett: The Man Behind the Badge by W.C. Jameson also delves into this. Thanks for watching.
One of the men with Garrett made the comment when they turned the body over " Pat thats not the kid " which was reported in the newspaper the following day.
I don't know if Garrett killed Billy or not , I wasn't there. I do know Garrett never got paid for killing Garrett. You have bad info on this account. And there was several wanted posters released by the State of New Mexico for Billy after Garrett claimed to have killed him. Poe said Pat you killed the wrong man when they looked at the body after Pat shot.
My great grandfather Lew Wallace of the Alamo said if that was Billy the kid pat killed that night.those deputies would have had him in cuffs before pat got a chance to kill the kid cause they knew what he looked like when they heard the shotts they ran in and said pat who did you just shoot he said I think I just shot the kid.they said pat that was not the kid you just shot. The kid was 5 ft 7 in tall the guy in the casket was taller billy the kid's hair was different than the hair of. The guy in the casket plus he murdered a man in cold blood by killing a Mexican in pitch darkness by law you as an officer can not shoot and kill anyone in pitch darkness with out knowing if it is the kid kid
Three men were present with Garrett and witnessed the shooting at the Maxwell home that night. Along with Pat Garrett were Thomas McKinney and John Poe. Billy and Pete set this up. They were close Friends. It all went down just like it was supposed to. Pete Maxwell is a distant family member of mine and it has been passed down to me that billy lived in Mexico for a few years before he came back to the states. He died of old age not a bullet.
B.s. Brushy bill has been debunked as Billy the kid.
@@7521eric your "debunking" is the only thing that was debunked
I never get bored with your posts. Thanks for your hard work.❤❤❤❤
Once again Brett, Thank you for the hard work! Well done!
My father was born in 1912 .
I agree
I know from family tradition he lived out his life,Texan and new mexican, we loved him and hate Garret
She was telling you bed time stories. Billy was killed that night. There would have been little to no chance of Billy interacting with native tribes at the time. If he had, he would have been either turned over in trade or eaten as most of the tribes in the New Mexico and Texas areas had been cannibals.
Lol, nope and nope...
Remember history is not truth. Its his story.

Billy would’ve dusted Garrett’s hind end in that match up. If he’d had a gun in his hand and Garrett had to draw? NO!
I don’t believe that he WAS a cold-blooded killer. His killings were revenge for the murder of Tunstall, or because of self preservation (escape).
Nice video Brett. It’s amazing how so many people are determined to hold on to the lie when the truth has so much evidence to back it up. “Alias Billy The Kid” clears up most of these claims with hard black and white documentation.
Brushy said his friend was lying on the porch. Maybe he never even made it inside.
There is a report that Mckenney is the one who shot the man outside.
Makes no sense. Garret knew him closely for 2 years? But not long afterward upon killing Billy couldnt tell for sure it was him?
Think what you said through.
Garrett was under heavy pressure. All he wanted (needed) was a body buried quickly without questioning and he was free of this pressure.
Truthfully i believe he simply wanted this Billy stuff to end and go away and i truly dont believe he wanted to kill Billy.

Old west book series had a infomercial when I was a kid and of course there was tidbits here and there about the best known outlaw or whatever but the most part I knew about btk was from Young Guns and the documentary they put with the boxset.
He was smarter than your average gun slinger 🤣. He survived and lived a long normal life 👍
My question is, if they knew PG killed the wrong man why would they let the people see him?

I thought his name was William h Bonnie
Dear Dr. ...
Either way he's dead now.
Don’t know if anyone can pull together to find out what they’re planning to do with all of their artifacts? ( ruclips.net/video/8Kh4tAsm9ww/видео.html )
Pat Garrett sounds as bad as Bufford Pusser 😮
I believe not this story 💯 percent, Billy The Kid lived out his days full of joy not looking back until he grow old. The Kid was young and alone, no one to help him but one friend stood out , that friend gunned down without a doubt. The Kid moved on to that day, but kept his friend inside promising to those that hell would be repaid. Without a doubt the Kid stood strong and he moved about, hell was paid for those in the wrong that day, Billy The Kid lives forever so strong moved on in his life so the books could tell his life. Billy The Kid forever lives on in song and grace Billy will never again will show his face.
AI would be of great use in the facial recognition, am I right?
There already was a facial recognition done year's ago.
Yeah they did one. 90+ % match. One guy said he proved Brushy was NOT Billy because of detached earlobes. Problem with that is as we get old our skin saggs and detached earlobes change.
@@glenstribling6123 Nobody found no such thing.
The test proves it was Brushy.
There's only one photo of Billy and he's not even looking directly at the camera lens
Billy might have lived but it has been proven through dna that bill Roberts is not Billy the kid.
It's all " due " respect
@@brendamcdonall5798 voice to text lol
@@brushybret Deluvina actually POSITIVELY identified Billy’s body because Pat Garrett didn’t want to go back in the room to see if it was him and she said “They killed my little boy” she was Billy’s surrogate mother and loved him dearly.
@bloodlegion4874 Watch the video, she recanted that statement.
but hes dead now
The kid died that night just not how Garrett said, Garrett waited under a cot àmbushed billy and killed him with a shotgun.
👍
@@larrybridges4545 What holes, specifically?
We will never know the truth n in the scope of life it means nothing. Perhaps this is more than just ahobby with you, brushybret.
We know that both Roberts and Billy the Kid were about 5’8. We know that Billy was about 5’8 because it was noted by the newspaper reporter who interviewed him while he was waiting to be transported to Mesilla to stand trial for the killing of Sheriff Brady. We know Roberts’ height because he was measured by Morrison who noted it in Alias Billy the Kid and it was further confirmed by his doctor and the man who prepared his body for burial. I published a video where I go into greater detail on this and discuss the history of the famous tintype, how it’s been altered and distorted, and the facial recognition study that was conducted by the University of Texas-Austin. ruclips.net/video/Y8KpyQTdBfk/видео.html
@@brushybret What about the pic with "Brushy Bill" standing beside Morrison ? He towers over Morrison ! What was Morrison on 5 feet tall ?
@@hyena61 In most pictures of the two, Roberts only appears slightly taller than Morrison. I believe in the picture you're referring, they might be standing on an uneven surface. Leon Metz was friendly with Morrison, and the two were practically neighbors. When I had the opportunity to interview him while researching my book, he told me Morrison was on the shorter side, and I believe he said he was about 5'5' or 5'6'. I recorded the interview on an old handheld cassette recorder, I might try and clean up the audio and post it on my channel.

“Illegally entering his house in the name of the law.” “Law abiding posse.”
I don’t think this section of the narrative works very well regarding the siege of Charlie Bowdrie’s house and holding his wife hostage.
As it is, to me it appeared you’re taking his work as gospel truth and declaring it truth. Just my two cents.
Thank you for responding respectfully to my criticism. Please keep up the great work you do. I’ve enjoyed it quite a lot since I discovered your channel late last year.
How can he be Billy the Kid? He has brown eyes and Billy the Kid had blue eyes.
@deborahlangnese7645 According to Severo Gallegos, who knew the Kid and witnessed his escaped from the Lincoln County Jail, Roberts and Billy had the same eyes.
Roberts didn't have brown eyes, but rather blue with hints of silver!

Thanks for watching.
actually there never was any proofs
This is total BS. Billy the Kid was killed just like history says. There was not 3 men that killed Billy. Just Pat Garrett
