  • Hi everyone. This a crochet tutorial for a kids hexagon cardigan made with the granny stitch. The age range is 1 - 12 years.
    US TERMS

    Things you need to know about this pattern...
    1. This pattern is made to measure. (A tape measure is essential. All of the measurements are provided below, you just need to measure your garment as you progress through the pattern).
    2. As it is made to measure you can use any weight yarn and any size hook.
    3. Due to the way in which the pattern is constructed, the larger the size, the wider the sleeves and the longer the length. There is an option to cuff the sleeves or leave them as they are.
    4. Once it has been assembled, you can either leave it the length it is at or there is another option to add extra length.
    5. Because it is made to measure and you can use any yarn, I cannot provide yarn yardage details. This is a great project though for using up scraps!
    Est. yarn yardage based on a short length with dk yarn and a 5mm hook...
    1-2 years - 275m - 301yd
    2-3 years - 360m - 394yd
    4-5 years - 430m - 471yd
    6-7 years - 510m - 558yd
    8-9 years - 600m - 657yd
    10-11 years - 660m - 722yd
    12-13 years - 770m - 843yd
    SIZING... Written as 1-2 (2-3, 4-5, 6-7, 8-9, 10-11, 12-13)
    As you progress through your pattern you will need these measurements and timestamps...
    I suggest to measure the child's chest and go for the size closest to that measurement.
    CHEST (cm) - 48 (55, 60, 65, 69, 73, 78)
    01:29 - Things you will need
    02:47 - Start of the tutorial
    27:05 - How to fold and measure your hexagons
    WIDTH OF HALF A HEXAGON (cm) - 13.5 (15, 16, 17.5, 18.5, 19, 21)
    33:56 - Seaming the shoulders
    41:15 - Back infill rows
    49:28 - Seaming the back pieces together
    57:00 - Sleeves
    01:10:16 - SLEEVE LENGTH - NO CUFF - (cm) - underarm to wrist - 21.5 (22.5, 27.5, 30, 32.5, 35.5, 39)
    SLEEVE LENGTH - WITH CUFF - (cm) - 18.5 (19.5, 24.5, 27, 29.5, 32.5, 36)
    01:11:22 - Adding a cuff
    01:29:05 - Keeping the cardi cropped plus neckline
    01:39:34 - adding length to the bottom of the cardi
    01:50:58 - ADDED LENGTH TO HIP (cm) - You will need measure from the centre back neck straight down - 25.5 (28, 30, 33, 38, 41, 43)
    If you prefer a tunic length then add an extra 10cm on to the length of the size you are making.
    01:53:07 - Neckline
    For the final rows around the neckline, the more you add the more length and width you add, so if the cardi becomes snug, you can always add extra rounds to widen it more!

    I've just completed this Cardi in the 1-2 size for my little Nephew Sebastian Started last night and finished this morning. So easy and adorable! I've never attempted making clothes and have only ever done simple granny blankets but this tutorial made it so simple and easy for me to follow! Very very happy that I found you! Thank you!!!

Thank you for an amazing tutorial- you’re an excellent teacher 👏🏻👍🏻🥰. Edited to add: I used Lion Brand Mandala Ombré yarn and a 5 mm hook. The color changes are perfect for this and saved me from weaving ends. I recommend it for first timers.

    I finally got to do this cardigan for my grand daughter, who is 12 months old, and it's turning out just gorgeous! I love the rainbow 🌈 colours! I'm keeping the sleeve cuffs open as I won't get to see her for a few months, and I like the BoHo look. I'm crossing my fingers that it fits her... once I'm finished with this one, I'll be making 2 more for my other 2 grand daughter's, but they're older, ages 7 and 9.

      @Craft and a Cuppa I've just added a picot stitch to the ends of the sleeve cuffs, and it looks awesome!! I never thought I'd be able to make this. I'm still learning.
      I'll be adding the picot stitch to the bottom and along the front as well I think. If I can manage it.

    Apart from making crochet blankets for years I've never ever been able to master the art of crochet no matter how many books I've bought and videos I've watched. I've always been a knitter. But because I've got eyesight problems I can't see the patterns any more and dropping stitches is awful. But I came across this channel by accident on the TV and I had some lovely pink ice-cream wool and the lady just made all the tutorial so easy and I've made my first ever cardigan for my granddaughter . I did get confused on the cuffs. So ended up doing something else but I've got it done I'm so proud of it .A huge BIG THANK YOU. I am looking forward to making more things now so here comes.     Love this pattern and your tutorials are very enjoyable company. I have altered mine to accommodate a more generous neckline however as i find more room is needed. I simply added two infill rows on each back panel and joined them with a single crochet to match the sleeve/shoulder join, Voila. So pleased with it. Thank you so much for sharing. Love the made to measure patterns.

      I was wondering about the neckline myself. After joining both panels I had my 4 year old try it on just now and it just didn't seem to fit correctly. One extra row will be enough?

      @@kimberlyhiggins3390 it will provide a better fit on the back of the neck for sure. I added two rows each side as i want to add a hood. Best to put it on and measure how much extra you need then measure you rows to see how many you need as a guideline. Just a thought.

    Thank you for this wonderful pattern and easy instructions 💓 this is my first cardi and I'm making two for my Grandson's at the same time. I know if I make one at a time I'll get confused , I like that you do a round on each hexagon (side) it makes it easy to follow.     Thanks for such a clear tutorial - have made one for my daughter using up all my scrap yarn - just figuring out how to add some buttons now so she doesn't constantly walk around with it hanging off her shoulders 😂😂😂😂

    I like that crochet is a choose your own adventure kind of thing lol I left my cardigan short and did an edge of single crochet. I also left the arms short to be 3/4 length and did one row of granny stitches and one row of SC to match the neckline
