- In today's video I carry on from the last video where I found out the engine codes for these 2 Skoda Octavia VRS engines were completely different, there are a raft of differences, but can I change them all over to make it work?

well done great job , I used to have that when I worked at LOTUS you could have two cars one in front of the other on the line and they put a part number change in for a different part identical cars

Fantastic to achieve so much in such a short time. Having done many engine swaps, even like for like, I know that there is always something that bites you in the arse and means a trip to the factors to get parts which is not useful at 6 o/clock on a Sunday night.

I don't think there has ever been an engine swap I have done that went to plan every one has had something to make me want to throw a spanner or ratchet at anything that wont be expensive.

Dean how unlucky that in less than six month they were different just means a bit more work really enjoying this project . Yes you will get auto box sold as all ways someone looking for this type of stuff . A question dean are you time served mechanic or are you self taught as your knowledge is really good have been subed for a while just love your channel and your ethos of saving salvage and not just buying new good luck dean hope to see many more project's

Great work 👍 It was all a lot easier last engine swop I did, '79 mk3 1.6 Capri! Had new emgine from a Mk2 in and running in an hour... Times have changed somewhat 😂
Not much to say but well done can appreciate the fact you getting frustrated with the differences between the wiring between the 2 cars .

Nice job, that looked a nightmare, you are braver than me. Now the fun starts getting the ecu to play nice, hopefully you can sort out the error messages, connections and diagnostics. Modern cars are a pain in the arse lol. Good luck mate.😀

What a nightmare job! It's interesting to see how you decided to use which bits from which engine. I'm a big fan of dual injection, so dropping the port injection for direct injection only would have been tough for me. Also the fancy diff is a great thing to have. I'm guessing the good engine is the 245ps version and the bad engine is the 230ps one. But kudos for all the work and getting it in and started. 👍

Some complain about the same-old same- old VAG 2.0TSI stuff they get bored from until emissions kick in :) I think the old system with direct AND port injection is better, port injection cleans the valves nicely.

I know that this was probably a 2 day job put in a 17 min video. People forget it sometimes. It is not " ah lets remove a gearbox in 5 mins ".

Yeah I had to get home and if I didn’t finish it it would have been another 3 days until I could finish it. So was a bit rushed in the end!

It would be interesting to find out what was wrong with the other engine (cyl head). Would it have been a better idea to fix the other engine and sell this one? Very interesting project.

Imagine, all these differences with the same engine, expect a lot of headaches with the 2.5 TFSI swap. ;-)
Wondering if you could switch the ecu from the other car or... wipe the good car ecu and remap it with the specs for the 'new, engine whilst keeping the original car specs on it? if you know what i mean . reckon that ecu might in time need some wizardry. unless the new engine is operating exactly like the old one it may not matter...? its fried my brain just thinking about it

Yeah it’s many hours, felt like it’s taken away from the RS3 project a little this video so was a little disappointed with it. But these things happen and I can’t predict what will happen.

it seems like you got VRS230 and VRS245. 245 has a direct injection system

Do you have to change pilot bearings? From manual to a Dsg engine ? Or add the bearing to the one you want to be Dsg?

Hi Dean, i didnt notice you check for a spigot bearing in the end of the crank when taking the auto box off and fitting the manual box? Do the engines already have one when a dsg box is mated to it?
Apologies if you are already sorted, Ive had this catch me out once when fitting an engine from an auto to a manual!
Yeah the auto box have them and the manual doesn’t. But as we went from auto to manual it didn’t matter. Doesn’t impact it

The engine you took out probably had a broken inlet valve spring on cylinder 1 wich is pretty easy to change and cheap
I diagnosed the old engine on a previous video, it will have a broken piston
Isn't the twin injector design better as it washes the inlet valves as a good side effect? to reduce the carbon build up on the intlet valves? Cheers.
I thought this, but the engine with direct injection actually had less carbon behind the valves
