Um I actually think that Pearl is a *BOY* and that because, girls usually have the darker faces. I know that because I have a pet cocktail that is a boy and he looks like Pearl so Pearl is a boy.
Cockatiel are so much easier to handle. I still remember my parakeet first time omg it was painful. I had to somewhat force it into the water fountain I got it for him but after few days of little forcing, he got used to it and now he gets all exciting and willing to take a bath every morning and when take him near water fountain. Birds are such awesome pets they change not only your life but also your family life.
I can't get my parakeet to use the little tub I got him, but when I take him and my cockatiel to shower with me, sometimes he'll take a bath if I let water pool in my hand. It really depends on his mood as to whether he wants to shower with me, but maybe once every week he'll want a shower.
@@markehammons i couldnt get mine to go to the pool I got him either, tried putting some kale on the sides of the pool i got him, he'd go down to eat some and find the water and drink and then would eventually get in the water little by little. Now he got used to it and would go down on his own without the food.
My four budgies plus the pair that belong to my niece and my one cockatiel take showers with me on platforms made for them. My cockatiel I adopted from a relative in the family who couldn't take care of him anymore. Tweedy the cockatiel was already used to showering because of my relative did the same thing for a long time. The birds also got my nine now ten year old now niece into the habit of good hygiene via showering and oral hygiene. She loves to shower with the birds and brush her teeth with them watching. They don't mind the water and they love being sprayed with a spray bottle and being under the shower head with the water only touching them from the shoulders down. They love that it's a bird spa for them and when time to take a shower they get all excited. 😂
At that 6:00 mark you can hear pillow in the background doing that classic budgie call when they can't see their friends. They do that constant chirp every second, hoping to hear their friend call out back.
I've hand-raised / bred cockatiels for a number of years. Something you might want to try is bird on th floor, clean tile, or carpet with plastic over it with large bath towel over that, and ideally in sunlight. spray birds with warm water with a spray bottle on mist setting. The birds absolutely love it, they have good and secure footing and have a blast. I would recommend recording it ( although I never have ) because it's a riot, and the only way to really describe it is as if the birds were having seizures.
Doing the dishes in the sink is one of the best ways to get them interested and then before you know it they wanna get in there. Just make it calm and explore things with them
Yeh true, but I actually don't mind the smell of wet 'tiel too much. When I spray my 'tiel with warm water, his smell becomes much stronger, and he looks like a little wet cloth :D.
I had a cockatiel and it loved a bath, depending on the "bathtub" she got. Seemed to love it. SO, I put a shallow bowl (but deeper water than this video)on top of her cage and she liked that. Good for them, too.
Lol. I used to do this too with my birds. I started using only spray bottles and the occasional shower after a while though. All my birds loved showers and spray bottles.
This is what life is all about.* Absolutely the kindest companions for this little sweetheart. Thank you -- I feel centered. So cute taking her time bathing. Great ideas too.
I am completely agains clipping your birds feathers . I did it once and seeing them loose their fly was so heartbreaking. I think it’s better to train them to stay in your shoulder. I can see you guys are very caring of your bird .
They do that for their safety Brendah4701. It doesn't hurt the bird at all and it avoids accidents. Birds are extremely fast and it takes less then 1 second for them to get into real problems. By clipping their wings they are easier to handle and they get so used to it that after a while they stop trying to fly away and will remain on your shoulder or where you want them to stay. So don't worry, the wings/feathers grow back and once they do the bird is so used not to fly that he will mostlikely stay on your shoulder even when their feathers have grown back. I do not clip the wings of mine because I got them when they were babies and I hand fed them. So they are very very attached to us. But we must be extremely careful and know exactly where they are at all times when we open the doors to go outside, ensure that the windows have curtains (see-through), etc. But when we cook we always take them in their playroom we have made for them with trees, toys etc. You can have a look at my RUclips channel and see how they interact with our Shih-Tzu and with us.
