    This is a very nicely planned community tank. You have set it up so that each type of fish has its needs and habits taken into consideration; I'm taking notes!

    I've got a big Gold Gourami in my 29 and love him to bits. Theyre so active abd inquisitive, interacting with plants and other fish with their feeler fins. Absolutely phenomenal centeroiece fish imho.
    For anyone thinking of getting a male and a female, its actuly pretty easy to tell them apart in a group. Look at their dorsal (top) fins - the male's will come back to a point, while the female's are rounded.
    Also, the females tend to be a rounder shape, but ive found this is a much less accurate predictor as the difference can be subtle.
    Best to know this yourself because if the per store is wrong and you get two males, you *will* have a problem.

      I was actually close to getting golds instead of pearls but I already have my Honey gourami that is yellow in my other tank so settled on pearls.

    Definitely only one male pearl in my experience with males never works for me no matter the tank size but isn't it strange how you buy your males from a tank full of males all peaceful yet the moment you introduce them to your tank they want to kill each other.
    I have 3 female pearls to one male the females are bossy at times but there's zero aggression the bossiest female chases the females off and wants the male to himself but there's never been any damaged fins or serious fights.
    Gouramis are my favourite fish i have a dwarf male but i want two more tanks for paradise gourami and honey gourami, i shall happily retire tank building then.

      Yea its strange, I have seen tanks full of them in pet shops and they never do anything >.

      @GlassBoxDiaries Even male
      Betas are kept together my LPS that one really puzzles me.
      I cannot even keep female beta's together no matter what there's aggression i have female betas in nearly all my tanks because i had to separate 5 from a female family tank, it failed big time.
      And yes Gourami are my all time favourite fish.

      The reason it works in pet stores is that they're hugely overstocked. This applies to all sorts of fish, too, once you have a certain number they can't really establish territories or hierarchies.
      The same applies with more aggressive cichlids or even just female Bettas: the more you have the easier it gets.
