Oh my god YES! I started off with a 40 litre for my goldfish I won when I was a child at a fair 🙄 the goldfish grew and I got more and upgraded to a 60 litre and a few years later I added white cloud Minos but my fish ate them, I then got dojo loaches, this then started my fish keeping hobby, I have now got 3 other tanks, one with a beta, one empty one I’m going to buy a another beta and now yesterday I brought my 20 gallon long tank, (bare in mind that these tanks are all in my bedroom) this houses my goldfish that are still alive today and I’m getting a pond done in my back garden for them! 🤣

I'm so glad ya'll spoke favorably of the neon Tetras!!!!! I bought some by accident once and I love them!!!!!! I still have all 6, they are doing wonderfully!
Just finished stocking my 20 gallon long today. I got 1 bristlenose, 8 cardinal tetras, and 1 Bolivian Ram. Wouldn’t have done this tank if it wasn’t for you two!
Perfect timing!! Just finished moving all my fish from my 29g to my new 75g. Now I have a 29g free for new ideas!!! The hard will be to pick one between lots of great ideas! Thank you, guys ! ♥️👊 You guys are SO INSPIRING! 🙏
Zebra Danios are a great school fish ! Through not as colorful as Neon Tetras or some other fish perhaps ? They more then make up for with their liveliness and energy. They add welcomed movement and motion to your tank. And it's really fun to watch them zip around !
I have a 20 gallon high (Aquaone 510) tank - I just restocked it using this formula - I have 1 Bristlenose, 8 Glowlite tetras, 4 Platys & 1 Bolivian Ram - they are all getting along quite well. The Bolivian Ram is so peaceful and has no interest in any of the other fish
Guppies! I have them in a 20L with dwarf emerald danios and yellow shrimp. They make a fun wiggly "centerpiece" all over the tank as well as a nice dither fish for shy tankmates. No typical cleanup crew in this tank as the danios' territory is on the bottom, and the guppies scour the bottom also. The danios are much less shy now that the guppies are in there. Guppies are very friendly, happy, colorful fish. ❤💚💙💜💛
Hey Jason I found them I got me a pair of brichardis !!! And can’t wait to get them home in their new tank!!! Only a 10 hour drive one way to find them but I found them !!!
I love your vids. Species profiles are something I look forward to even as a 20+ yr hobbyist. You almost have me looking forward to Monday...almost. 😀 🐠 🤙
The meleagris shellies are incredible ! I had a batch of them and they were so much fun to watch as they were always displaying and active in the tank. Loved those, I also had the multifaciatus and they were also incredibly fun to watch. Thanks for your suggestions. I've been keeping aquariums for maybe 20 years now, quite successfully....and I'm poking around for new ideas with my 20 tall. I would love to have more blue rams, but it's hard to find a good batch of those in the lfs around here. I bred them a couple of times and they are an incredible fish.
I just did a 20g setup. I chose Oto’s, CPD’s for a schooler, CPO Crayfish, blue dream shrimp, and an electric blue ram for a centerpiece. Thinking about adding either ember tetras or cherry barbs as well.
I’ve kept 1-2 angels and a few rasboras in a 20H. Both females and never had a single issue other than when I first put them in many years ago when I was new to fish keeping.I also have a heavy planted tank and do 50% water changes twice weekly
Happy Monday Jason and Joanna. I have always liked neon tetras, rams and colorful dwarf gouramies. You have introduced to me other community fish that I have never seen. So cool.😎 By the way Jason I decided against putting a mating pair of discus in my empty 36 gallon to make babies. I don’t want to stress them out and give them a crummy life. Thanks for the feed back. P:S.. A few more days and I get my one year badge. So excited! 😀🐠
2 favorite things about Monday: Jason & Joanna!!! Toss a random fantail Goldfish in just for fun! I've kept them for luck in every community tank w/no problems. The tetras especially love to follow behind them while they're eating and grab the tiny bits that come out of their gills! (Goldfish groupies!) Would love to see the 'Nano' version of this Vid on 'The Small Scape'.
Currently doing a 40G tank (it's all I could afford and find 2nd hand). Started with 12 Rummy Nose. Today I added a Bristlenose Pleco and 6 Common Corydoras (all 7 were very small - an inch if that). So currently not much color other than the red nose on the Tetras. Future additions - spread over time of course - are: 12 " Cardinal Tetras for more schooling colour 6 * Kuli loaches - additional cleanup but love the look, especially the striped or the YoYos. Danio's - about 8 - for top of tank. Trying to decide between Golden Longfin, Gold Zebra or Leopard Longfin. Centrepiece - still tossing between a German Blue Ram or a Gourami (Honey or True Honey). I gather regardless of GBR or Gourami, I still go one in a 40G. I do like the look of Swordtails but was told not to have these due to being live bearers. Loving your videos. Hope you do a "Community 40G" even though it's classed as a breeder tank.
Great job as always! Out working in garden all morning, just a Thought have you ever done a video on NPK of tank water for plants garden/ house plants. One on plane tank water versus water that filters have been cleaned in. Might be a good one for Farmer Jo’s channel!
@@PrimeTimeAquatics got 6 Cory’s and apistos “super reds” I got a pair… not a single I couldn’t resist 🫣. They only had 1 multi so I held off and the hatchet fish came in today and are in quarantine fyi lol
Love this idea! Very timely for me. I have a 20high with a bn pleco, and a female krib (she harassed her mate to death). All she does is hide, and I thought I would go a different direction than a breeding pair. Thanks you two!
So I like to over stock my tanks… In one of my 20L I have 14 black neons, 15 Lambchop Rasboras, 4 Panda Corys, 1 Apistograma Caucatuoides, 1 lemon blue eye long fin Bristlenose, a pair or guppies, and 2 Nerites… I keep a close eye on this tank because it’s overstocked but the fish seem to get along amazingly and my water parameters are always stable and the plants keep my nitrates at around 5ppm. This is not a setup that I recommend for anyone who is not experienced or willing to do semi frequent maintenance. I have been in the hobby for years and just now feel comfortable with trying a tank that is this heavily stocked. Love the recommendations in this video, obviously I’m already implementing this stocking recommendation lol
i set up a 20 long with multies over a couple of months ago! no fry yet started with 4 multies may add one or 2 more just to increase likelihood of them breeding...i love them more than anything just about!
Love this video! My 20 high has a Bolivarian Ram as the center piece, 8 harlequin Rasboras, 6 peppered corys and a small colony of neo caridina shrimp. I also put my female betta in there while her 10 gallon cycles but she’s buddied up with my ram and they do everything together. Should I move her to the tank once it’s cycled or keep her with her buddy? Aqadvisor says my filtration is at 1500% and It’s heavily planted. I do 25% water changes 2x a week.
I started off with a 10 g and love the hobby so I upgraded to a 20g and now I got a 75 and I’m enjoying the hobby and still need all the info I can get because I’m planning on getting a bigger tank 😝
Great list Prime Time!! I really enjoy these lists since I lack the experience with keeping a lot of these fish!! This really helps me immensely 🙏 Thank you for sharing I hope you all are having a wonderful day!👍🙏🌿🐟🌿💚
I love my community tanks 2 twenty gallons serpea tetras, rummynose, swordtails, and a molly ,the other one dwarf honey gourami, 3 spot gouramis, corydora catfish, roberti tetras and ornate tetras
Hi, this is Lorna from Hygger Aquatic Equipment, I have been following your youtube for a long time, your videos are very good and fit well with our brand, we would like to test our new products with you and look forward to hearing from you.
I think a great center piece fish is a Betta. I have one in a 40g with gold white clouds, neons, and bristlenose. They are also pretty easy to come by.
I love your channel and the great ideas you give me, I am working on getting my 10 gallon set up with some of your ideas from the video you did on what can go in a 10 gallon. I also have a 15 gallon and was wondering if these ideas for the 20 gallon would also work for it?
I shall be looking into these suggestions when I start my 135 planted community tank but most likely just the show cent r piece since I want shrimp and small tetras and well planted tank
I’m super late to this video but thank you guys it means a lot I’ve had a 29 gallon for about a year now and haven’t had nothing in it but zebra danios genuinely helpful
Hey ,enjoying learning about all of the possibilities in a 20 gallon tank. I have a 25 gallon tank , soon to finish my cycling . Out of those suggestions , is there a total number of fish recommendation ? I don’t want to over stock .!
Perfect! I have multiple 20 gallons cycling. Now just need to find suppliers . :( May have to order from Flip Aquatics again as the LFS seem to have next to nothing. Thanks for the ideas !!!!!
Another question. Lol I plan on adding to my 20 gallon. I have one Kuhli loach and four purple harlequin rasboras in now as my bottom feeder and schooling fish. I want to add 4 bearing fish and a center piece. Probably guppies/platys and a ram. How many more loaches and rasboras should I add with them if any?
Love your vedios!! I have a habit of liking your vedio then watching your vedios...... please speak about "African butterfly fish" and " glass catfish".....❤️👍
I know this is an old video but I got a blue eyed Yellow long finned Bristle-nose. Didn’t know if it was a male or female when I bought it and it’s a male! I was so happy to find out that I got a male since they get so many sprouts all over their face and they branch off
A 20 long can have like 5 carbs from petsmart idk what they are called but you make a floating platform and fill it up to 75% and they will thrive! I had some in my 20 long and it was great but you need a very tight lid because they try to find every way to escape but it’s cool! I know they aren’t fish but they are still cool.
I am new to fish keeping I bought a 20 gallon aquarium. Never cycled it properly because I didn’t even know that was a thing till I start googling things. I added stress coat and nitrifying bacteria readistart The next day later I added 5 peppered Cory cats then a few days after that I got a loach (4 inch max growth) he’s either albino or a golden dojo not sure. And 3 zebra danios I plan to buy 3 more. Guy at the pet store told be to only add 3 at a time... anyways I tested my water today and it all came back good besides NO2 level is 1.0 was wondering if you had any tips on how to lower it and also am I overstocking or you think I may be able to add something more would really appreciate your helps thanks
Day two of fish tank research has led me here. Are you saying that the given numbers per fish type (from each category) can fit in the 20g long tank? What I mean is, obviously some of the recommended fish could be a group of five, where as another type would be one. If combined with all the largest numbers (presumably the smallest fish) would that still be okay for the tank? (I feel like I complicated that question, but not sure how else to phrase it. haha) Second question, do all of the mentioned fish require the same environment (ie: temp/ph/etc etc)? It's a good base list if I can use it to mix and match with as I'm learning. There's just an overwhelming amount of information and differences is tank size, water details, fish details...so many fish details.. and more. Just trying to understand. Hope you can somewhat understand what I'm asking... Again, I feel I made it way more complicated than necessary. Lol. Thank you!
It’s always best to look up the specific fish, but most mentioned here will do fine in the same water parameters. As for the numbers - you can use the numbers from each category for stocking.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics - Appreciate the fast response! I’ll pick from the list and then do research from there. Finally, a starting point! Haha. Thank you!
Quick question, I currently have a non planted aquarium 20 gallon long. However, im going out of country for a month so I am removing the fish i have and puting them in my friends koi pond. I want a change so i was thinking of getting a planted tank. Are their any good plants i could leave in the tank to grow while im gone. And should i keep the light on for those plants or not because i dont have a timed light? (I am planning to keep the fish mentioned in this videos).
Starting my first 20 gallon tank! There are 3 fish I really like which are the Ember tetra, Bristlenose Pleco, and the Peacock Goby. Do you think I can fit all of these fish in my tank safely? How many of each fish should I put in the 20 gallon tank if I can fit all 3 in safely? Also, to avoid bringing too many fish in at once, do you have a recommendation on an order in which I should bring the fish into the aquarium? For example, ordering the Ember tera's first and putting them in the tank, then waiting a week and then ordering the Peacock Gudgeon, etc.?
I came into two 20 Longs. Currently I'm putting together a 55 to house the fish in it from one of the 20 Longs, the other is empty. Watching this with interest.
I just started cycling my 20g, it's in an old TV console...debating on fish, I'm thinking male fancy guppies, and tetras... but, how do you figure out how many total to ha ve? I'll do 6 ottos,...but how many each of tetras and male guppies?...including one centerpiece fish

Hi, this is Lorna from Hygger Aquatic Equipment, I have been following your youtube for a long time, your videos are very good and fit well with our brand, we would like to test our new products with you and look forward to hearing from you.
I agree with the first 2! thanks for what guys do
Very likeable people. Thanks for the info
9 neons , 11 glow lights and 16 khulis in my black water 20......they seem happy . plus its my Sunflowers favorite tank.
I think a great center piece fish is a Betta. I have one in a 40g with gold white clouds, neons, and bristlenose. They are also pretty easy to come by.
It can be, but have to be careful with some of the schooling fish :-)
I absolutely love these videos, makes my fishkeeping hobby more fun! Jason and Joanna thanks a lot👍🏻🙂❤️And happy Monday!
Yay! Hope you have a great week 😃
I love your channel and the great ideas you give me, I am working on getting my 10 gallon set up with some of your ideas from the video you did on what can go in a 10 gallon. I also have a 15 gallon and was wondering if these ideas for the 20 gallon would also work for it?
I might lean more towards the 10 gallon ideas for the 15, but you might be able to slightly increase one of the options in that video?
I shall be looking into these suggestions when I start my 135 planted community tank but most likely just the show cent r piece since I want shrimp and small tetras and well planted tank
I’m super late to this video but thank you guys it means a lot I’ve had a 29 gallon for about a year now and haven’t had nothing in it but zebra danios genuinely helpful
Good to hear!
Thanks for the video and insight,
Jim
Thank you!
Hey ,enjoying learning about all of the possibilities in a 20 gallon tank. I have a 25 gallon tank , soon to finish my cycling . Out of those suggestions , is there a total number of fish recommendation ? I don’t want to over stock .!
You could go with the numbers suggested in this video?
Love you two..great channels
Thank you, Jennie ☺️☺️
Half beaks are so COOL
Hi nice video question. You ever look at keeping rosy loaches ther so cool can you make a video on them👍 good stuff
Perfect! I have multiple 20 gallons cycling. Now just need to find suppliers . :( May have to order from Flip Aquatics again as the LFS seem to have next to nothing. Thanks for the ideas !!!!!
Have fun!
My 20 tall has 5 Colombian tetras. They look like small paranha, put are actually pretty cool (and non aggressive) to watch while I work at my desk.
Definitely Glow light Tetras. But in a close second I would do Pearl Danios ( not CPDs). I love the Pearl Danios.
I ask because I’ve read they both like company and 4 is too few for the schooling and the loach might need a friend.
Love your vedios!! I have a habit of liking your vedio then watching your vedios...... please speak about "African butterfly fish" and " glass catfish".....❤️👍
Great video!
I know this is an old video but I got a blue eyed Yellow long finned Bristle-nose. Didn’t know if it was a male or female when I bought it and it’s a male! I was so happy to find out that I got a male since they get so many sprouts all over their face and they branch off
At a push you could use as a schooling fish maybe in a 20 gal the 5 banded barb absolutely beautiful and very peaceful no more then 5 in a 20 gal
Great video like always 👌 another fish for a 20 gallon could be the doctor fish, maybe red claw crabs lol
Was that a kribensis moliwe? Ugh! Stunning!
So cool!
I’m looking to get some glow lights; I’ve never had them. Panda garras or gastromyzons. Platys as your showpiece. 20L are such a fun size.
That will be fun!
Thank you guys 🙏
Day two of fish tank research has led me here. Are you saying that the given numbers per fish type (from each category) can fit in the 20g long tank? What I mean is, obviously some of the recommended fish could be a group of five, where as another type would be one. If combined with all the largest numbers (presumably the smallest fish) would that still be okay for the tank? (I feel like I complicated that question, but not sure how else to phrase it. haha)
Second question, do all of the mentioned fish require the same environment (ie: temp/ph/etc etc)?
Anubias is a nice low light plant but for any plants the lights would need to be on at least part of the day?
That would work well. You could easily do 8-10 embers, 4-6 peacock gudgeons and one BN. Order doesn’t matter. Have fun!
I have fallen in love with Kuhli loaches as my clean up crew
I came into two 20 Longs. Currently I'm putting together a 55 to house the fish in it from one of the 20 Longs, the other is empty.
Watching this with interest.
I love vids. like these, thank you. I know you are talking 20 gallon. Would you suggest how many bristlenose plecos in a 36 gallon bow. Thanx
You could do a couple in a 36.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics Thank you! You also mentioned dwarf gouramis. Would they work in that 36g. community tank?
I just started cycling my 20g, it's in an old TV console...debating on fish, I'm thinking male fancy guppies, and tetras... but, how do you figure out how many total to ha ve? I'll do 6 ottos,...but how many each of tetras and male guppies?...including one centerpiece fish
I think 6-8 each should work well.
Love this video! Subscribed!!
Glad you are here!
Awesome Video
I might very well get an apistogramma to join my black neons, white clouds, and ember tetras!
I used to have some von rio tetras. They really are neat fish. A little bit to agressive eaters to keep with slower eating fish though.
