We both played Ultima Online together through the magic of the Internet when I was stationed 3000 miles away, and while I was home this day walking with my bro... we saw a pair of birds on a telephone line and said, simultaneously, "Let's kill them and take their feathers for arrows!"

There was a series of studies done that started even before the Great War which found that like 1 in 5 soldiers will actually shoot to kill, even when in danger which explains why so much ammo is spent compared to actual hits. Eventually, not so long ago, the solution was found - teaching soldiers the routine until every action up to the very act of killing becomes pretty much automatic for the soldier. Turns out it's easier if you just don't have to think about reloading, aiming and stuff like that. Implementing human shaped targets also helped.

Activities either better your life or not. Its more of a philosophical argument. Same could be said about any hobby that takes too much of your time. Heck, I'm a worse person for writing this comment because I could be doing something more productive. He's not saying gaming makes you bad or that it makes you a murderer. He's calling for introspection of how we spend our free time. Its not about legislating or even condemnation, just a call to think about how we spend our time.

Andy Jones Still, Walsh made a huge logical leap in assuming that violent video games must make you worse. Unreal violence can be cathartic without causing actual harm, and games in general can improve skills like problem solving and hand-eye coordination. The only good reasons I can think of personally that playing games would be a bad use of your time is if you didn't enjoy them (could be said about any activity) or if you neglected responsibilities and relationships over it (more of an addiction/poor time management issue in most cases, though games can be made with the intent to be addictive like gambling lmao).

They're probably going to ban two-finger shooting when they ban bump stocks. No more sending ropes of paint at people single shots only everybody! Turn based volleys. Speaking of paintballs and paintball guns didn't law enforcement adopt non-lethal use of said things? The force who is supposed to protect and serve but legally only has to protect the law and not people, but use deadly force constantly because they hire anybody instead of training people how to diffuse situation instead of just immediately flexing policing power. Bottom line that's fucked up people that's why we have police and that's why we have laws because people with basic morals do not need laws to tell them not to kill and steal if anything video games are a stress reliever and not a gateway to commit acts of violence someone willing to commit an act of violence has always been that way way before they touch any video game, or they snap because life is hard and sometimes you want to give up or do some dumb shit but as civilized humans we need to get the fuck over it and move on. If you're going to go on a mass shooting start by shooting yourself in the head and dear everyone stop linking mass shootings to video games because it has nothing to do with it. A simulation is nothing like doing it physically. And like Chris said video games are not always about killing they are an adventure or have some kind of objective they are not all FPS... or war games which the government would be being hypocritical about if they brought up war games. Lmao

The assertion should be more accurately rephrased as “Chris Ray Gun only makes fun of stupid.” The answer to that would be yes. This allows the previous statement of him making fun of the left to be true and him making fun of the right to be true. Although, it seems the left is more well versed in stupidity. I have to watch a Brett Weinstein discussion every time I watch a PC or leftist video because I need to revalidate my hope in the human race.

+MichelleObama2020 That goes without saying. Did you think when I commented what I said means that I’m not knowledgeable of the far right holocaust apologetics and the identity politics? No, I have more sense than that and I feel like you are discrediting my ability to have an objective morality and compass aligning with yours. If you want me to put it so that there is no way I could miss that major detail, I am a liberal, but not a leftist as I find the current party appalling. I say I sit with people like Brett Weinstein when it comes to beliefs but I find Alex Jones funny (man is a walking joke, if you see anything else you really are dense) and find Cenk Uyger appalling (see Tim Pool’s video on his meetup with his “old friend” Cenk. That’s the final straw I needed to dismiss that guy Cenk.) I think that is enough context for you to rationalize my general stance but nothing too specific.

The way you worded your argument is flawless. Hit the nail on the head. It’s not about the killing or the gore, those are just flair to make the games more flashy and exciting, but at its core, every single video game since the inception of the medium has been about either outsmarting the game or outsmarting another player using the mechanics of the game. It’s no different from chess or poker, just presented in a way that comes off as more interesting due to added context and simulated stakes.

Even before that, they were already on about how bibles had to stay in Latin, and putting them in a common language was a vulgar blasphemy that would only corrupt the people. It has always been about collective consciousness control through censorship and information manipulation.
You want to know the real reason politicians in the US consider video games to be a threat? Games that teach simple messages to young people about questioning heroes and politicians and the things they do and say. I mean, we can debate the literary quality of game stories like in Metal Gear Solid 2 or Far Cry 4, but they're both excellent examples of games with simple universal messages easily communicated through the in-game contexts that the players must interact with to progress gameplay.

I recently watched a video of a professionally trained SWAT officer playing Airsoft. He absolutely eviscerated everybody at it because he had been _professionally trained_.
As a gamer; sure, I'd be better than your average person for the same reasons you stated in this video - I'm constantly thinking about flanking angles, line of sight, how to outsmart my opponent etc and I'm more experienced at doing those things on the fly. I've been playing FPS games for well over a decade.
But up against someone who is professionally trained? Hell, even someone who's been through Basic? I don't stand a fucking chance in hell. They will destroy me. You couldn't pay me to step into a paintball arena with someone like that because I don't want those fucking bruises.
The argument that video games turn people into "effective killers" is absurd. Being trained to be an effective killer makes you an effective killer. Video games - at best - make you a crafty and quick witted plebian with a gun.

That video of Glenn Beck saying video games are used to desensitize soldiers severely irritates me. First off, they're not used by the military for desensitization, they're used because they can simulate combat scenarios. Even before video games, soldiers would play table top war games for the same reason. Also, if they were supposed to desensitize them, then they failed because I've read articles written by military experts who've seen soldiers play games, then go into combat, and completely lose their shit because virtual violence and real violence obviously aren't the same thing. The media are so quick to point the finger at games, music, and movies. Well, what about all the war footage shown on their programs? Oh wait, they can't blame that because that goes against their agenda of being pro-war so, they brush that off completely. Fuck these assholes.

This is my favorite of all your videos so far. The way you described gaming, in a way that non-gamers could possibly understand, it was fantastic dude. You managed to make me super excited about my own favorite passtime, lol. Have you considered making any game review content? I think you would be good at it dude.

I used violent videogames for self-therapy. I'll explain: when I was 10 yrs old I got hit by a car, badly. A LOT of pain involved, almost lost a leg, scars all over my legs ever since, 2 yrs until full recovery. And also I have become very afraid of cars, even riding on the front seat was incredibly scary, I felt like the car would crash all the time. Crossing the street was terrifying. Then I found out about the Carmaggedon game. It was shocking, and cruel, and so insensitive to people who had been hit by a car like be. Playing it was a mix of disgust, anger and anxiety, but I insisted playing it every other day. A month later, it just felt like a game. At the same time, my anxiety about cars was pratically gone, years later I decided to become a Mechanical Engineer (I even worked in the automotive industry for a couple of years). My sister saw me getting hit back then and to this day (20 years later) she is still a bit afraid of cars. I haven't been afraid of cars ever since my Carmaggedon marathon. Today I'm a 30 yrs old hubsband and dad, extremely patient and chill, never had any episode of violence at all.
edit: I also have played (and currently play) other violent videogames, not only Carmaggedon.

It’s that satisfaction of outsmarting or outperforming an enemy that keeps me coming back for more, as do many people. To add on too this,I have met many people through a love of siege that I still have as friends,so if you do dislike video games, please let us have what we like,as we do for you

I was in my psychology class and my teacher was talking about how video games actually tend to delay mass shooting and school shooting. Because having a place where they can do all of the stuff they want to do in a world without consequences.
