      He is really underperforming. Bayern had hopes for Euroleague Playoffs bringing a lot of ex NBA players, instead they are one the worst teams in the whole league, especially defensively. They were doing relatively bad even in the German League. Monroe against the good Euroleague teams often disappeared and was very detrimental on defense. Him and Booker are a nightmare defensive duo. He could flourish in a different team, but it is hard because the game in Europe is going really small and really fast paced for the last 8 years or so. Maybe China would be a better fit for him.

    That assessment of Josh Smith's game was just over the top Andy, come on... He was signed, coming off his best 2 seasons as a pro, averaging 18/9 on a playoff team that emphasized passing and teamwork, being one of the most versatile defenders in the league (being top 10 in DPOY race is not THAT impressive, but still, it says something about his defense), being a pretty nice passer, and up to that point in his career, although still inefficient, he would typically finish season shooting from high 40's from the field (and 50-ish percent TS%), which i guess led them to believe that, with age, he would be more disciplined and stick to his strengths. Had he played 4 as he should've, i do believe he actually would've paired quite well with both Drummond and Monroe, but alas, we got to watch the Death lineup. To be fair though, it's not like the frontcourt was the only issue, Jennings and KCP were both terrible shooters in their own rights, Jennings being a big time shot chucker, and generally having subpar IQ offensively, while KCP was a rookie and took him some time to get used to NBA 3, on top of being inconsistent as hell.

    Man he just needed that outside shot and he would've remained useful in Toronto. The Raps could've used his rebounding prowess this year so it's sad to see that he's gone. His speed isn't necessarily the biggest issue as both Ibaka and Gasol are slow-footed. The difference though is that both of them have an outside shot, can defend (Ibaka more than Gasol), and can facilitate (Gasol).

  • @SuperNASCARrocks
    @SuperNASCARrocks 4 года назад

    The problem with Monroe was that he was a traditional old school back to the basket, post up, tough physical in the paint center with tremendous rebounding. Unfortunately with the way the game evolved you had to have your center space the floor and be able to shoot. That was not Monroe’s game at all. And when the pistons drafted Drummond in 2012 who was another hard nosed center with tremendous rebounding ability, Monroe was kind of stuck in between a rock and a hard place because the pistons had to play him at PF instead of his traditional position at C. And because of this he suffered greatly.

    he actually looked to be somewhat of a serviceable backup center last year in the playoffs. he just isn’t the typical modern day center. i think he would only fit with certain teams that are used to having a center that clogs the lane and gets rebounds.

      Dee Jay difference is that Dwight Howard adapted his game and made lots of improvements and changes to his play style to fit his team (Lakers) better. Throughout Monroe’s 9 year NBA career, he has not made any changes or improvements to the issues in his game or fitting whatever team he’s on. And the results of all this all clear. Dwight has had a very refreshing role on the Lakers, meanwhile Monroe is out of the NBA.

    To Monroe's credit, Jason Kidd was fired due to the very same aggressive defensive scheme. It worked the first season, then every other team adapted to it and from that point on it was just a huge waste of energy. And there comes Bud, who instead of having the big guys hedge out and trap at pick and rolls, he has them drop back at the basket and the Bucks become one of the top defensive teams in the NBA.

  • @jayvilla1983

    These days nba adapts the euro style of play. Most of their bigmans can shoot outside especially in the three point arc, can pass, can guard point guards and shooting guards during the switch can dribble the ball and can run quickly for the fastbreaks and can get an alley oops. Gone are the days of low post centers and slow footed bigman because of the modernized way of plays.

    Monroe and Kanter are great offensive players, but their lack of defense and lateral quickness made them hurt their teams defense, and then his offensive contribution is not enough because of the damaged of their defensive struggles. I think he would be back, at least as a back up center, same as Kanter in the Celtics. They have so much hype when they got drafted because of his offensive game, but because the league evolutionated so fast between 2014-2016, a lot of the potential as a starting center became useless because they can't defend and they can't guard the p&r. To me, he still a very good offensive threat coming from the bench, he still deserve to be in the league, but not as the All Star that he proyected as young talented pick.
