    It's easier to just mention the +4 EVs equals 1 stat, but it's actually only that at level 100!
    We're not going to have perfect EVs in this type of run, but it's still +4 stats which is equivalent to 2-3 levels at the time most people use them in these solo runs (without that darn damage rounding threshold)
    Anyways, enough being THAT guy in the video. I absolutely enjoy your videos because of how unique they feel. Especially the VS series giving an egg move.

      I appreciate you being THAT guy. I learn from THAT guy :) You are correct and I was aware of this fact so I threw in a cheeky "roughly" when explaining that 4 pts equals 1 stat. Mr. sceptional (Egg, if I may): I have to know, who do you envision as your audience? I've been wondering for a while, since you explain pretty much every mechanic (pretty well, might I add), but you do solo runs, which aren't super casual-friendly (I'd imagine), so I assume most people here are either like me and don't mind the extra explanations mid run and really like this type of content, or people who missed the big boom of solo runs on RUclips, and so they come to you to learn the basics of these challenges. I wonder what your vision of your audience's pokemon experience is.
    Completely unrelated to this discussion: I really like your content, and no matter who you or I think watches these videos, they are very entertaining and well produced.

      My friends call me Eggman or Egg or "hey you". To be honest I hadn't given it much though. My primary goal when I first started was creating the type of content that I enjoy watching. I've just been kind of growing from that, still pursuing the content that I enjoy, but with extra tips and tweaks being thrown in from the comments. I enjoy adding a little bit of explanation into the mechanics here and there without deep diving on the same things every video. It gives me something to talk about :P Mostly I've found my audience is people that grew up playing the games and just enjoys watching edited challenge style runs. Like me!
      I appreciate you saying that! I've found myself once or twice getting lost watching my own content. It's a weird feeling losing yourself in your own voice. The Leo in my likes it. Purrrrrrr

    Huh was not expecting Lance to give Aero so much trouble in the first play through, still it was a great preformance from one of my favorite Pokémon and you played absolutely incredible
    (Also learned something new about the Rival's Blastoise during the 6th battle, could've sworn it had Hydro Pump at that point but I guess I'm either thinking about his Gyarados or maybe the Red and Blue version of the fight) Can't wait to see the long awaited battle between the Dome and Helix (I wanna say Dome has the edge since it feels like Physical attackers with decent speed stats do better in gen 3 Kanto)

    • @Eggsceptional
      @Eggsceptional  Год назад +2

      Lance gave a surprising amount of trouble but it was primarily in that if he was getting multiple attacks on me I just couldn't survive. Isn't it mind blowing that Blastoise doesn't learn anything better than Water Gun until the Champion fight? Same with his Alakazam only knowing Future Sight. Terrible!

      @@Eggsceptional I guess it's because they go with the Pokémon's learn set until the champion battle, could you imagine how scary the Rival would be if he used TMs through out the entire run or at least starting at the Pokémon Tower fight since he at least should have the gym leader tms and the hms since he says he get cut. Blastoise having Surf would be brutal even Water Pulse on Blastoise would be an issue since it has a chance to confuse you.

    For future runs, when you talk about IV and EV. I think you could add a little example of how much stat point a pokemon at level 75 pokemon would have at 0 vs 31 IV as well as how much added stat a good EV distribution would give. I choose 75 here because it's a nice "round" number and common range where your solo runs end. It would definitely illustrate how important they are to someone unfamiliar with the concept and why you want them to be normalized for these competitions.

    • @Eggsceptional
      @Eggsceptional  Год назад +1

      I would like to implement GameHook (at least locally, implementing it into the overlay will be another problem). It'll let me see my EVs dynamically throughout the game so that I can really dial in on where my stats are at any given point. I really like this suggestion, particularly calculating them below level 100 since EVs don't gain their full effect until then. I've got it written down as talking points for the future thank you :)

    Its worth noting that curse manipulates the AI. The AI routine sees Brock using rock tomb as speed control. So if Aerodactyl is slower than onix the AI isn't likely to use rock tomb.
    Another thing I noted was that Earthquake is usually a better option than aerial ace (100BP vs 60*1.5=90BP). Probably better than 112BP rockslide thats 75% accuracy too.
    I really thought it was interesting that you chose to use curse on a pokemon whose job is to be fast. It might be the best option (because curse is awesome) but it really feels counter intuitive. You basically took the second faster mon in the game and made him the slowest.
    I think I would have used ancient power for a long time (due to the better accuracy than rockslide) and gone back to the move tutor when I needed more power.

    • @Eggsceptional
      @Eggsceptional  Год назад +1

      That's super cool and makes total sense it didn't even occur to me. I'm glad you pointed that out thank you!
      Rockslide does have 90% accuracy which still definitely lets you down but it's not as bad as 75% would be. I've had some good pointers about my move choices in the comments I'm trying to be more actively aware of these calculations when choosing a move. Particularly accuracy.
      I felt like a set up move is so game changing (which I felt it was) and Aerodactyl had some Speed to spare. I feel it mostly worked out!
      You can only learn from the move tutor once though and I'd already taught Rock Slide. It's a shame, it's true.

    The Dome Fossil is still the superior choice and I'm glad a playthrough with the saddest gen1 fossil pokemon made the right choice.

  • @jptheflipper3825
    @jptheflipper3825 Год назад +1

    Eggcellent sir, truly Eggcellent, I thought you'd end up stuck at Brock until you had Bite, I had not considered Curse, its one I often forget about, I think of it too much on Ghost types which plays very different, clearly it works for the early game. I got to say now, you have the single worst poison luck of any player I have ever seen, this is why I I love running poison types, no worrying about point point, the need or antidotes so I have spare cash and no pecha berries so I can use other held items. bring on the poison runs after the fossils, am I right?
    you ran Aerodactyl so well but that 1st run was rough at the end, curse is great but that drop in speed is too much when you get to that point in the game, I know you love your set up but I think in this case it cost you a bit, something to deal with the massively physical defensive Pokemon like Steelix might of worked better, even a brief use of Fire Blast might of helped. did you consider HP rock at any point, I know you love Rock slide, but its accuracy kinda failed at some moments here and a max HP rock is 70 only 5 less than Rock slide, might of been worth trying. the extra pecha berries from the meowth army trying to get HP might of been good too
    I have a helpful hint that might help for future runs, if you go into the fighting Dojo with Thief on your moveset, every pokemon in the Dojo has a Black Belt as a held item which boosts fighting moves by 10% might be helpful for Pokemon with Brick Break or Double Kick who need a boost. Beedrill, the Nidos, certain fighting types, maybe even Jolteon
    speaking of Jolteon, I am sure many many people have suggested an eeveelution VS at some point for you to try. its almost a cliched request, who doesn't love the eevees. I imagine you will at some point and give them all Curse as an egg move, although I'd say only Flareon makes real use of it due to its Stat spread with Umbreon and Jolteon being the second best due to movesets, but I am forever bias as Flareon is my fave and the only fire type I really love.
    in reference to your upcoming VS to cap off the fossils; all hail the Lord Helix

    • @Eggsceptional
      @Eggsceptional  Год назад +1

      Second time's a charm I already responded to this but then bumped the back button and lost it all. Argh! Thank you thank you! I was worried that I'd be stuck on Brock for a lot longer like we'd discussed needing to wait for Bite but thankfully Curse gave me a way through without too much excess pain. I get some decent luck most of the time hitting Rock Slides/Meteor Mash all those lower accuracy moves, but absolute garbage luck when it comes to status effects. No wonder Substitute always saves me :P I'll be posting a poll after the fossils to see what everyone wants to see as the next VS video. If it isn't Poison it'll likely be Bug based on how things have been shaping up.
      That first Aero run was a steep learning curve but it gave me a great basis to plan my second run off of. I had considered Fire Blast for Steelix but was struggling with how to delete a move, then teach a new one that would be relevant for the league. I suppose I could have done that with Fly? Herm. HP Rock I always consider it's just a matter of time investment to find it that gets me.
      That's super cool I didn't know that you can Thief Black Belts from the Fighting Dojo. It's a good thing to keep in mind but if I run a Pokémon that relies heavily on Fighting moves. Another great tip!
      I was checking out the egg moves for the Eeveelutions and they're quite underwhelming. Those aren't runs I plan on doing until closer to the Christmas season. Somewhere in there. They get happily backburnered for the time being :) Helix love!

    • @jptheflipper3825
      @jptheflipper3825 Год назад +1

      @@Eggsceptional you are welcome sir, curse was a good option and far faster than waiting for bite. I have noticed that, you do have some great luck with moves that are not 100% accurate, whats the old saying if its not 100% accurate its 50%. your status luck is awful but as Razador often says Gen 3 loves the status, anything that can help with status in Gen 3 is a must, its a lowkey reason I love the Nidos, they are immune to poison and sandstorm so that 2 problems avoided from the off. poison or bugs, so many possibilities, the Nidos, Gen 1 bugs vs Gen 3 bugs, the dreaded Parasect VS Shuckle VS Shedinja race. how a poison/bug challenge Beedrill VS Dstox?
      losing a move for Fire Blast would of been a tricky one as you needed to keep Curse and then you added Substitute for the 2nd run. I'd say lose Rock Slide for Fire Blast, Aerial Ace is too useful to lose due to never missing and fly has its downsides due to the 2 turn nature of it. HP Rock is only 5 less and with Curse boosts just as useful.
      Thief is kinda broken in fire Red, you can get nearly ever type based boosting item in the game using it, but Black Belt is the easiest due to being on trainers through the game, the Black Belts on Island 1 have them to and thanks to VS Seeker can be repeatedly farmed whenever. it can also be used to steal the Sitrus berries form the league members so you can have an extra boost mid battle. if I think of any other good places to use it, I'll let you know, no one nowhere has made a list yet of the best places to use thief.
      I'm with you there, no rush on the Eevee's man, they'll be good and they'll be fun, but they are predictable, Curse sets are limited because they all have the same physical sets (except jolteon) and as you saw the other egg moves are woeful, it'll be good for Christmas, fun treat for the Eevee fandom, I have thought to give it some added flavor, some other runners, back port Pokemon from later gens into older gens, Scott puts Gen 2 Pokemon in Yellow and Squidgy takes Gen 3 and puts them in Crystal. is there a way you could back port Leafeon (my 2nd fave eevee) and Glaceon (my least fave) into Fire red and do all 7, you;d love Leafeon in Fire Red, it gets Swords Dance and has a lot of speed

    • @Eggsceptional
      @Eggsceptional  Год назад +1

      @@jptheflipper3825 If Butterfree is going to face down Beautifly, then Beedrill and Dustox would make sense to me. The status effects are so brutal. In Omastar's runs between the 2 I reset to Lorelei's Lapras probably 10 times to getting paralyzed or crit by Thunder.
      Hmm if I'd gotten lucky and found TM10 that would have worked nicely I feel. Switching from Rock Slide to HP Rock with Fire Blast bridging the Steelixseses would have been a cool play.
      Most of my usage of Thief has been getting mushrooms from Paras. I haven't gone seeking specific items/berries as I've been running with powerful enough Pokémon that I don't feel like it's necessary to. Yet :P
      So the short answer is yes I know it's possible to backport newer generations to Gen 3 I just haven't found a way to do it while still being able to alter my starter to have the IVs/Nature that I want. It's a WIP, among many others at the moment, but I'd love to bring newer mechanics back. Like Moxie Salamence for instance. Eventually :P

      @@Eggsceptional I'm really looking forward to the Gen 1 vs Gen 3 bug runs, they are gonna be fun and probably a lot more balanced than lets say Butterfree vs beedrill or venomoth. I would say through in some Gen 2 bugs, but most of them are kinda awful.
      that sounds rough, I hate status so much, paralyze is the worst of them, I can put up with sleep or freeze, they end at least and I hate that Lapras, she has made it such a hateful beast, I never run one as a result.
      it is such a cool play, any TM's you can get more than one of are worth having for just such an occassion. I've done something similar with my special attacking bugs, lost giga drain for HP fire and then replaced it for solarbeam, keeping sunny day for both. there are a variety of moves you can do this, mostly dig, brick break and HP.
      I've done that before, getting the mushrooms from Paras in Mt Moon is handy for later and saves me catching 100 of them from the safari zone. plus you can sell the big mushrooms for big cash so you can afford an extra game corner TM. you'll find uses for it, but finding where to best use thief is half of it, as I said there is no list, just a lot of Bulbapedia pages to go through, so many many pages.
      you'll figure out something for backporting down the line, although I don't backporting to Gen 3 from 4 has been tried yet, maybe once you've updated your computer that can take the necessary software for it and thats an interesting idea, I hadn't considered using it for abilities from later gens. if thats your plan, have a look at Technician for the likes of Smeargle and Scyther and a few other, you'll love it

      @@jptheflipper3825 We'll see how the Bugs go but there will be a lot of Bugs in the poll that's for sure. I'm looking forward to all 3 so I'm really looking forward to what the poll reveals.
      All I can say about that is that sometimes the RNG gives, sometimes it takes away. That's part of what makes these games so fun to play I feel.
      Yeah they'll be ones that feel very much to be locked into overlapping movesets just out of availability of options.
      Oh the amount of mechanical depth that exists in Pokémon is fantastic. It's a big part of why I love playing these games so much. Knowing what to Thief and where is just so satisfying.
      Scyther would have been such a stronger run with Technician. I was so disappointed that it wasn't in Gen 3. I'm hoping to have that hardware upgrade sooner than later.

    Puns are fun because they make your audience feel smart for getting them. Dinosoar is not a difficult joke to understand, by capitalising you're assuming your audience are morons that wouldn't get it otherwise.

      It's been a while since I ran it, but my assumption is that Dragon Claw is special instead of physical in Gen 3. 60 base special, plus the Adamant nature made STAB Rock feel like the better choice

    No i definitlly dont forgot that video will be 2 hours faster and miss live, 23:25 you could use eq and kill arcanine over risking miss with rock slide and save some time. 1st run e4 looks terrible like i say last week that -speed could be hard but i think with sub it will be okay. In 2nd run you again have kill on arcanine with eq but go for miss but this time he didnt kill you. Rock slide is 112bp so im sure in both situation eq would be enough, i find it common in your runs to go for move that can miss in situation when you dont need to and it can cost you big time lose. Okay yes i was team aeoro before yes armaldo is better mon yes i am eggscited that armaldo win with this random flying thing. Next week i think kabutops will win with time around 1;35

    • @Eggsceptional
      @Eggsceptional  Год назад +1

      The thing in that battle was that EQ would not have gotten the OHKO. In hindsight with the amount of turns it took I could have used EQ for that bit of extra safety but I was trying for the one shot with Rock Slide. Rock Slide's power would be 225 with EQ being 200, not a huge difference but Rock Slide was barely getting the one shot range. I don't always go for the right choice that's for sure but it usually isn't at least partially considered :p I try to avoid the lower accuracy moves but sometimes I enjoy risking it for the biscuit :)

    I can never have a true guess for vs runs anymore because armaldo showed the power of the egg. I had assumed arodactyl might win. But once i heard their set up was curse i chose that itd lose. I was suprised by the round 2 wondering if DinoSoar (ha funny dry joke) would win. But armoldo pulled out the win still.
    Dunno what Done gets as an egg move, but if its something good like swords dance, they might just pull out the win.
