On the topic of the the Magikarp salesman, it's really not a bad deal if you're doing the Pokedex! Catching a wild one takes a minimum of 200 Pokedollars, which is super cheap in the Pokemon world, so it's basically just paying for the Poke Ball + a 300 Pokedollar convenience fee. If the Magikarp breaks out even once, which is decently likely if you have to catch it at full health because your entire party will OHKO it, then you come out ahead after only two breakouts. Plus, if you stop replenishing Poke Balls once you run out because they kinda suck, a Great Ball is 600, meaning that if you're forced to use a Great Ball on the Magikarp, you would have saved 100 from the salesman. Of course, if you're *not* doing the Pokedex, probably better to just catch a wild Gyarados directly because raising Magikarp is painful.

I would always buy the Magikarp and then do the lead off, switch to someone else method to level up lol. Not just because Gyarados was always one of my favorites, but having that guy so early in the game by the 2nd badge was soooo useful as a Charmander-cel.

I always bought the Magikarp and put it in the daycare center as soon as I could. Once it got to level 19 I would take it out and use a rare candy on it to evolve it. This makes getting a Gyarados early in the game really easy, and I don't know why I've never heard of anyone else doing it this way

If you still want to follow Ash's journey, there's a rom called Ash Grey that follows the TV show. It's pretty good. Worth a play for sure

Hmmm I noticed a flaw in the guide. On the Sabrina page it said that (paraphrasing) 'since Psychic types have great Special Defense they will rebuff much damage from Dark and Ghost type attacks.' This is odd because until gen 4 Ghost type attacks were all physical. This may hint to Ghost being meant to be a Special type or just a plain old mistake.

Thanks for saying which fossil you took. If you hadn’t, we’d all have asked. Actually, now that I think about it, everyone ask anyway. Comments are good for the RUclips algorithm.

You sir, should do a playthrough of Pokemon Fire Red: Rocket Edition. I would LOVE to see your take on it. around 19:00 you said you had no idea how the gym key got there, but this fan game answers a ton of open questions about Red and Blue. I think you'd really, really like it. I hope to see you play it!

10:58 "French speaking rival" seems like some excellent foreshadowing, considering Blue is referenced in Pokemon X&Y since he made a visit there

I grabbed the RBY digital releases so that I could run through the game on a special nuzlocke run on Yellow... and it turns out, the Pokemon that the gym leaders have sit around a much more worrying level 50+ when you have the option to battle Fuschia and Saffron. Even Blaine was sitting around that point which had me legitimately worried about losing a Pokemon to them.

I do like that if you choose Charmander then you can get Mankey in LG. I know it's in FR, but Mankey wasn't in Blue and was only in Red and Yellow. When I played Blue, I would always use Pikachu without fail against Misty. When I started playing LG, it came to me to use Bellsprout and I had wondered why I wasted my time on Pikachu.

The Primo guide for frlg was the only guide I've ever gotten, so it was basically my Bible. So disappointing that it didn't help me figure out how to get the sapphire gem, I didn't finish the sevii islands until my parents bought a new computer and I had regular internet access, which was a few years after I got these games. I wish the RUclips vids wouldn't stop before the post game, because I always thought that was the coolest part of these games.
