Great, interesting, informative video. I watched everything in one go. Thank you for the very interesting presentation of the material. The Turntable will live forever!
Audio is my hobby and the way you have laid this out is far better than even the so called gurus out there. I am a fan! You are straight to the point with the right in your face info! You are awesome! 🎶🎶
Do not forget to unplug the cartridge when measuring the capacitive load of the cables . MC is less sensible to capacitance but more to good quality conductors with low resistance... Nice review and great help and advice for the vinyl newbies.....
I decided to buy a record player to get back to the old magical analog sound. I ordered the Pro Ject Carbon Evo and I'm so glad you mentioned the Schiit Mani 2 as a good preamp, because I ordered that too. This video will help me a lot to organize and maintain it properly. Another very useful video of yours. Thank you very much !!!
I have three Technics SL1210mk2's, Two In the Radio Station, and one In the Living room as the main player. It has the Nagaoka MP-100 Into the Schiit Mani 2, And It sounds amazing. When My cousin came over from the States, She bought a box of Mr Clean Magic Eraser. And I cut It Into small Blocks. And after 10 years. I still have half of It Left. Works great for cleaning the Stylus (Needle). They do make a Longer Heavier counter weight. This does the same job, but without the extra weight on the end. I have one on My TT. Thanks for sharing.
@SkunkieDesignsElectronics An other option i figured out is a : use a pioneer plx1000 counterweight it is 105 gram near 100grams of technics and fits sl100c sl1500c / Gr G etcetera. Maybe handy for the hifi guys and Girls whit heavy cardridges. By the way i had some improvements by doing this tweak and filling the rear of the tone arm where auxilary wheight comes whit grease
Yeah, the Onzow zero dust is a bad idea. I just cut a little piece of magic eraser or a bit of blu tac and very carefully drop my stylus into it. When the stylus gets especially dirty, Groovewasher makes a really nice stylus brush and a gentle cleaning fluid. Anything that smells like alcohol, I’d personally avoid. It can eat away at the glue that holds the stylus to the cantilever. After losing a really nice stylus which just fell out of the cantilever, I’ve never used anything like it again and have never had another problem. One of my turntables is a Technics SL-1200, and I think you’re spot on with the reasoning behind the addition of a weight to the back of the arm, especially if using a headshell / cart combo with more mass than normal. The combined weight of the combo I’m using now is a bit over 20 grams, and I feel the difference is worth it. The capacitance of the cables going from the turntable to phono stage is extremely important. Fantastic video and excellent information for those who may be newer to vinyl. 👍 🔊😊🎶
My turntable is an ancient Thorens TD160 Super that I purchased new in the late 1980's. These things are indestructible. I had a Rega RB300 arm fitted at the time and the cartridge is the original Adcom HC/E high output moving coil cartridge that is still fine as I rarely use it. I sold off most of my records after replacing them with CDs so all that I have left are records never released on CD. I am in the process of converting these to flac files.
Thank you so much for this video! I have that exact turntable and these videos have been very helpful. I've been trying to improve my stereo setup and ran into the same whooshing issue with the left channel on some records. I'm going to have to get a magnifying lens to check it out.
I know this is an older video but I sure appreciate it. I found you because I was searching for Technics 100C because I'm in the market for a new TT and I wanted that one because of the auto lift feature. Your other video made it clear that's not a great feature lol. So now I don't know if I want a used 1200 mk3 or mk5, or a new Reloops 7000 mk2, or a used direct drive Denon, or maybe a brand new 100C still. And I have this morning to make up my mind lol. Anyway I like your common sense style and I just subscribed.
It's a great turntable that is sleek and sounds awesome. That auto lift due eventually work, just seems they could have engineered this better to instantly lift at the end. not sure why there is the long delay?
@@12_inch_spinnerz Since I made my comment I've been living with a full manual Reloop and I love it, except for it doesn't have auto lift. I still love my TT (Reloop RP7000 mk2) but sometimes I sort of wish I had saved up just a little bit more and got the Technics.
Interesting as your Blue Note comment. I personally had 6 out of the last 7 that had loads of noise and one that must have fell on the floor. New production (QC is horrific)!
Hi, all great advice. Personally not a fan of record weights due to the excess wear on the main bearing. Also, they can’t be used on turntables with a suspended subchassis. Have a good Christmas.
Stylus scales will be more accurate if mat is removed and the the scales sat on the platter @ record surface or as near as also the AT-VM95ML (micro-line) is flippin' fantastic.., way better that the eliptical and prefered over the shabata ;) The Little Bear T11 is also a great phono pre-amp, i change the output coupling caps for deeper bass. Great show :D
It's really superb, i think you will be pleased with it. It seems to dig a bit deeper, noticing less surface noise. Very best regards@@SkunkieDesignsElectronics
hi i have a preamp and amp tube separated and phono stage box (cambridge duo),if i put a wire ground between phono stage and preamp chassis is it ok! i must mention that i have a rega planar 3 and i dont have ground wire on the rca cable on this turntable
If you can't find the MoFi i have found the Nagaoka sleeves work absolutely excellently! And if you can't find that either Katta sleeves work well too im told.
Don’t use solvents on hollow cantilevers or the liquid will suck right inside it and compromise performance and especially the damping elastic material by the coils. Huge “no no”
Hey, nice advice :) Now that I'll be able to afford nice things, some hardware upgrades will come - definitely getting a new cartridge in the upcoming months. As for cables, I got inspired by Mr Carlson's Lab to make a video about making them on the cheap using some good grade (as in, all copper with dense shield) antenna coax: ruclips.net/video/GDmHmMPXKzY/видео.html and while the difference was not groundbraking, I noticed some more detail in treble :).

Wow, thanks!

yeah if I didn't say it, I removed the headshell when I tested it.

Glad it was helpful!

Great video the tweak whit counterweight was use full. Thank you
You're welcome!

@SkunkieDesignsElectronics I don't know if you know this but you can change the setting on when the auto lift engages.

@kraig7777 The reloop is a solid performer. Just technics did a review hos
Reloop has hum issues i hope you go for the technics.... nothing comes even close

Pretty cool👍👍
Great info. I'm looking into a sl-100 myself. FWIW, I couldn't hear a difference between my schiit Mani and the built in one on my marantz PM6006
Some integrated amps had good phono stages. I also haven't personally heard a schitt mani so there is that :)

Stephe, How much to sell me your tube pre-amp? ;-)
These initial 834 clones will be for sale for around $800 + shipping.
a bad stylus/cartridge or pre amp is always weak in the bass

She sure sounds/talks like she's from Texas. ?
GA but close :)

👍👍
i allways track my carts at the higher end of the spec
Yeah, the blue one sounds terrible. The green was much, much better.
I was shocked at the difference.
You have inspired some copycats on RUclips, but they don't seem to have any technical abilities
