    Super nice work! These things are damn near indestructible. I've done a lot of work on these things for a lot of years. Just a couple of tips that might help you. When lighting, if you leave the adjustment/cleaning lever in HIGH and turn the valve all the way to ON, the warmup will go much quicker. The Easi-Lite system is designed for lots of flow to get more air into the generator than fuel, just like a carburetor. If you slow that down with the control lever, tank pressure will force more fuel than air and not atomize the fuel causing more flare-up and take longer to settle down. Give it a try and see what you think. Don't be afraid to pump it while it's warming up, especially when it's full and doesn't have a large air volume in the tank. Once it settles in, then move the main valve to ON.
    You may want to oil that pump leather with a couple of drops every time you take it out. If you keep it well oiled, it will last for way more than 20 years. Leather is MUCH better than the rubber ones in my opinion.
    When you shut it off, do it with the control lever on high to help purge the generator before it has a chance to cool down.
    I would recommend pulling the generator, removing the gas tip, and blowing compressed air through it while heating it with a propane torch. You'll be amazed how much crap burns out of there. The additional air will help more completely burn and clean it out. You may want to clamp the brass block in a vise and don't heat that too much. Just the tube. If it's had a lot of hours on it, you should see a noticeable difference in how long it takes to warm up.
    Have a super weekend!

      That is great info! I have been using Coleman products my entire life from teen years and I will certainly put your recommendation to use. How you explain it makes perfect sense. And yes you're right about the leather cup, way better than the rubber ones. I have learnt not to over do it with the oil as it does find its way into the tank and will contribute to clogging of the generator and needle. Thanks for your input Mike, I will put it to use👍
      I plan on doing a few lanterns over the winter. Be sure to tune in!
      Thanks Mike✌️

      @@OpenAirOutdoors Cool. Agree on not over doing it with the oil for the reason you pointed out. Those generators are getting hard to find. Need to take care of the ones we have.

    i have a little 508 in the case sitting here and an older single burner in the original box in the garage. And a few two burners and some M1950s as well.. Your little stove runs sweet. What kind of 4x4 is that under the canoe? I came over from Doug at Pinetree Line. Come on over and visit and you can see some of the stuff i have found, and maybe cook a little. Thank you for the rebuild lesson.

    Hello - thanks for the video. I was wondering what your using for wicking material as well as what size stainless screws you used as replacements. I'm currently doing a similar rebuild/restore and need to change similar parts.

    • @OpenAirOutdoors
      @OpenAirOutdoors  3 года назад

      I used wad from old worn out Zippo lighter. This can be purchased from Zippo, and the screws I believe was #8 if my memory is right.

    Great video Marc, does your stove have Wicks/fuel pads? My stove seems to be leaking from the burner bowl down onto the tank whenever I go to start/prime it. Any ideas?

    • @OpenAirOutdoors
      @OpenAirOutdoors  Год назад +1

      Yes there is some wading under the base of the burner plate. It might be full of gunk and not longer absorbing the fuel vapours. I had to replace it on mine and I ended up using the wadding from an old Zippo lighter. Hope this helps. If you continue to have leaks try pressurizing with minimal fuel and spray it with soapy water to locate the leak.
      Good luck Ktown✌️

    Hey there. Do you have any experience with other coleman stoves like the 533 or 508? Wondering if they are all basically the same or if there are any real advantages to one or the others? Thanks

      They all work in the same principal, however the 533/508 has a bigger tank and burner head.

    What kind of paint did you use on the font? I note that the fonts get kind of hot (warm++) when the stoves are in use, particularly with a large pot on them (or a heat drum). So wondering what kind of paint you used, and how that paint seems to be doing after a summer of use. Thanks.

    • @OpenAirOutdoors
      @OpenAirOutdoors  4 года назад

      I used Tremclad, it’s not high heat or anything special and I have never had burnt or scorched paint issues. But I also never use heat shields, these stoves as far as I know were never meant to be used with heat shield or heat exchanger. If it’s windy I’ll put up a make shift wind block. Hope this helps and thanks for stopping in🍻
