- Actors and the public are rallying around “Cosby Show” alum Geoffrey Owens after he was apparently shamed for working at a grocery store. Several news outlets circulated a photo of Owens working at a Trader Joe’s in Clifton, New Jersey, implying the actor had fallen on hard times. Many people spoke out against the apparent shaming and applauded Owens for his hard work. You'd have to talk to his employers at Trader Joe's to get the real scoop on whether or not he's "working hard" at his job. I did a grocery stint for a couple of years out of highschool. I'll admit I worked pretty hard at times, but there were quite a few slackers that us hard workers had to make up for. Not saying Geoffry is one of those slackers, although I do question why a yale graduate would be relegated to such work for money- especially in this strong economy.

Teresa Miles, Do you think it's possible that maybe Geoffrey has some personal issues that keeps the management team at Trader Joe's from wanting him to be that golden spoke's boy for their business? Geoffrey Owens is an awesome actor. And the fact that someone decided to take a picture of him at his job, it was published, and it appeared that the publishing was to intentionally harm his reputation is disgusting. Moreover, it was great that his friends and the people who cares about him came to his defense to prevent the continuation of the possibly sabotaging of his life. Though it appeared that his life was over because he has a regular job, he let it be known that he is not ashamed to have a regular job that is flexible while continuing to pursue his passion to get parts on TV shows. And his life was never over- Great job Geoffrey Owens!

I love everyone in the comments sharing their job stories to come to this mans defence, it's amazing! When I was down, I worked overnight maintainace at a Walmart where I have consistently scrubbed and detailed all the bathrooms, waxed an entire store and even scrubbed all the floors in a supercenter during my time. Hell this should make people want to work at Traders Joe's if anything else! They clearly aren't bias in hiring like most corporate jobs
What exactly do people think actors do when they don't have an acting job ? As I search for work in the industry I will be working at a convenience store. I have a friend that works at a pizzeria and another who does kids shows dressed as a superhero. Acting isn't always a full time gig it isn't an easy profession nothing is ever guaranteed.
Acting could be a full time gig, if you really wanted it bad enough. There's plenty of clowns working at kid's birthday parties that can attest to what I'm saying..

Koram , as a side note; I used to fantasize about what it would be like to be an actor, but in truth, I never had the courage to try it. It's great that you would follow your dreams and try something that you love to do. Myself, I tried music for a while, but gave up because it was taking it's toll on me and my family relationships. Now, I not only not encourage others to try music, but I give a stern warning to people wanting to try it about the negative effects it can have on one's self and others. my husband got deported 2 months after I gave birth to our first child & my maternity leave started. I knew I wouldnt be able to pay my bills & rent eventually so I started delivering newspapers at night 6 days a week while my mom kept my daughter. She stared sleeping through the night at 6 weeks old so it helped a lot. Sometimes u just have to do what u have to do.

There's actually alot of actors that have been through tough times. For example, Gordon Ramsey, Chris Evans, RDJ, Mark Ruffalo, Terry Crews, Arnold and much more of the mainstream celebs. These people make good role models.
