Omg I forgot about the personal classified ads! I used to read them as a kid. I especially loved the missed connections ones. They were always so cheesy, like, "Man seeking blue-eyed beauty seen at K-mart. You wore your auburn hair in a bunch, with a green sweater and a smile capable of erasing all pain. We met eyes, and I noticed no ring on your finger. I would love to know if you felt the spark, too." I often wondered if they found the person again. Some of the particularly well written ones would lead to me imagining them meeting and falling in love. It was good entertainment for the weekends. 😂

Those were also seeking to a mutual advantage. They were not lonely at all. They were choosey. Very choosey. They weren't 'preyed' upon, they literally advertised themselves. It's sad that so many women were so lonely that they trusted anyone they thought would give them love. Men are the same way. Belle Gunness from near where I'm from was the same way; promised men of love and a home and then killed them. What's even sadder is that there are still people who do the same thing in today's world. Everybody wants someone to love them.

14:55 It amazes me that everyone in this photo seems to be smiling like they're a bunch of old acquaintances meeting up to have a good time. I can imagine law enforcement 'being so careless he could fall down the stairs' if the man kept this smile on his face.
What always makes me sad is how killers and other criminals get all the attention while the normal people that fell victim to them are only known in the context of the crime. They don't get videos made or books written about their mundane lives and what they meant to family and friends. They don't get a page on Wikipedia. I get it, I truly do, and I too am of course interested in the monsters rather than the people that resemble me more (thank goodness). It just makes me sad that it has to be this way.

Modern-day Craigslist, I suppose. People have been killed through it. I can't imagine writing to someone and thinking he's the one! He's perfect (after 2 letters) and then giving him my money, or allowing him to come into my home. These women married the man. He wasn't in their lives for more than a few weeks. I don't care what people say; if you can't truly vet someone, you have no business trusting them.

Didn't Luella think her husband's construction project for a vegetable store was rather odd ( and expensive) ? Hard to believe she wouldn't have had a rummage through his trunk full of love letters that he kept at their home when he was off on " business".
Makes me wonder if it was a joint money making enterprise similar to the Lonely Hearts killers, Beck or Hernandez? Or the Brides in the Bath murderer's wife who wasn't directly involved in the entrapment and murders but received and sold on the victims' possessions.

18:23 That’s one friggin weird a$$ photo. Harry Powers laying curled up on his side, looking up at the detective. The detective sitting there with a cigarette in one hand and other on his thigh, with one foot propped up on Harry’s bed, looking off into space, like ‘😏Yeah that’s right, I’m hitting that’.

Hi Paul, I have never heard of this one before. I wonder what happened to his real wife after the trial and execution? She was a victim too. That trunk full of letters disturbs me the most. So many women who came too close to a killer. I hope they were notified that they were writing to a murderer.
Even today, it’s hard to meet people who are not running a scam, abusive, criminal or worse. Dating sites are the very worst! I even get a message from a stranger on RUclips from time to time. I’m happily married but telling them that doesn’t deter them. I’m thinking about removing my picture from my profile.
Thanks for sharing this with me and I appreciate you very much. ❤ Brenda
