If your Echo Plus (1st Generation) is unresponsive using the Alexa app on your phone or tablet, this is the real deal fix. I spent hours in two locations trying to set this up. There were no tutorials, just the same problem posted by countless people. SO! Here is what I did to get it up and running and has been working since.

My Echo 1st gen (no plus) similarly could not be connected using the mobile app. A web based approach worked here also. However, there were some differences. First, the Chrome browser did not work correctly with the website. The Safari browser did. The process did hang the first time through. Simply pressing and holding the wake button on the top put the device back in set up mode and when repeated the connection process went to completion.
This was the solution for me! Chrome and Edge on my PC didn't work but Safari on my Mac did! Shit that Amazon have removed 1st Gen setup on the app! 😡

Thank you for leaving a response. I actually gave up til I saw your post. After spending countless hours with the phone and Fire tablets and PC...I tried Firefox and finally got it to work. It did hang up several times but finally worked.

OMG!! I was supposed to trade in my 1st gen that I got, pre-ordering it, having NO idea what it was. I couldn't trade it in so I brought it to my tie dye workshop and couldn't get it to work. Awesome!!! I had gotten 2 of these and two 1st gen dots for $60 and thought I got ripped off. However; I refused to be defeated and spent more than $60 of my time trying to figure it out.

Thank you for this. I started off with Chrome on PC and did not read your addendum. Downloaded Firefox and follow your steps and finally have it working. It's sad how fast companies toss away support their "old" products. I wonder how many of these will end up in landfills.

hey guys. i couldnt get it to work in app and then tried the site on multiple devices and browsers to no avail. after talking to customer support i learned that you can simply turn off bluetooth on your phone and hit skip in the alexa app when prompted to turn it on. you should then be able to proceed.

I just tried this and the Alexa website makes you use your app, it won't allow you to log in on the computer. I still can't fix this issue.
Same issue, tried older version on Alexa on laptop with no luck
haha thanks man would never have figured this out on my own...thought i bricked it when i brought it from home to the office. like someone else said...i was able to do the whole process on iphone12 via safari...i did click “request desktop site”...but otherwise everything was as you described. thanks again!

Tried on chrome, edge and firefox and after chosing the device it goes to a problem loading error 😢

I have the Amazon Alexa Echo 1st generation. I would like to connect it to my car cigarette lighter, but I don't want it to use my car speakers. I would like it to be a stand alone speaker as if I plugged it into the wall outlet. I can't find the right adapter to do that. What model of adapter work in my car and fit properly with the Amazon Alexa Echo 1st Generation?
Loved the video. I’m so frustrated, have tried everything….except this but I don’t have a PC just and ipad😢
We just changed internet providers a few days ago. Tried this method and got as far as the first page of the setup. It had a disclaimer that this page no longer works with all versions of Echo and will work with fewer models as time goes on. I did find the Echo Plus button on the bottom. When I clicked on it, the page said "Page not available. Too many redirects."
I unplugged the Echo Plus and tossed it in the trash where Amazon wants it. It was an ill advised purchase in the first place and seldom used except for a simple timer reminder.
Sorry for your loss.
Having the same issue.. tried safari, Mozilla, chrome, not working anymore. Too many redirects. Website won’t load. :/

Hi Dr. Chada! I have one echo plus as well, but following the step by step, after connecting to Amazon wifi and continuing, the problem is the language, not available in Portuguese. And even if I select to continue as English, it starts a looping going back to start again the connection with Amazon wifi. Can you help me to go forward?

Which browser didn't you use?
@@Rima-hh8db The video uses Chrome, but Firefox has also been proven to work as well. I cannot verify any other browser.
My settings in the PC Alexa app doesn't have a "add device" option. WHY?!!!!
They broke the website, now all the buttons under the "Setup a new device" tab lead to broken pages

Just got it to work after a week of trying different things . I used alexa on the fire tablet and chose Echo Input from the device list . Then I just followed the regular set up steps . No router reset or configuration
HI I'm still having issues with my echo plus, Im doing exactly what you say to do but as I connect my echo to my wifi it says set up complete but doesn't give me another tab to open to discover my devise ...and it's mine from new I had upgraded my wifi awhile back and can't get it on line again..im using firefox on my pc...thx for any help.
@@DrChada i did but my pc isn't letting me proceed to the next step to add it to my wifi..and my cell is too old to upgrade alexa app lol go fig...though my new echo synced up in 5 sec. on my pc ...i'll still mess with it ..thx

No good for me , orange light on , right on top of my router , when I try to connect my computer to the echo I get "The wifi network could not be joined"
@@DrChada fixed, had to reset my ethernet switch , router and modem
i am a believer in you too! mine would not connect on anything. i was finally able to see it on an ipad. i deregistered on my desktop and the device disappeared. it showed up on my menu as "this device". I was about to give up and it showed "CONNECTED" after a few minutes. My whole ordeal took 2 days. Elon Musk I am not.

@@DrChada I tried that... it won't play the sounds. She is responding but I can't hear it. The sound is not muted on my end. I'm ready to sell it at this point.
